As she reached mid range Howlite smirked. "Ever heard the old saying?" He summoned his rifle. "Never bring a hook to a gun fight?" He was an expert Marksman. She was a psycho with a hook on a rope. He had an edge here. He aimed at the ceiling and pulled the trigger. A loud boom echoed as the laser ejected from the barrel and pierced the chain of a large and heavy chandelier. It came crashing down towards the 2 gems. He then rolled out of the way as it came down. She was a canny one. This was gonna be fun...
Veriscite instinctively rolled out of the way and lunged a few feet from the chandelier, but failed to expect thousands of glass shards that broke off of the object as it hit the floor. Veriscite blocked most of them, but many more tore through her, some entering her eyes. "AAAAHHH!" Veriscite shrieked as she recoiled. Why? I have been faced worse incapacitation then this before... then why? Why!?
Variscite staggered around, trying to reform her damaged parts to continue the fight.
"Oh no!" Variscite rasped, speaking to her self. "This is too much, too much I can't take it, but I must! I hurt so bad!..."Control...control...you must control!... I'm losing it. I feel... a screw loosening."
The injured Variscite seemed distracted, like she was in a mental conversation with many other persons. Nevertheless she turned toward Howlite and made a fast, crazed dash for him, foaming at the mouth.
Howlite saw her foaming at the mouth. "Uhhhh you OK there? You got something on your face." As she charged him he put her in a triangle choke hold then kneed her in the back before throwing her on the ground. "You honestly think you're gonna win? I'm rather annoyed. You see I would've under different circumstances invited you to join us. I was even gonna spare you. But then you had to go and insult the boss. You do realize you're pretty much digging your own grave right? Unless of course you're so deranged you think you can win?"
Veriscite stared helplessly up at Howlite trying to make sense of all the noises in her head, come up with sentences and respond, but lacked the ability to return. Instead Variscite's pupils rolled back in her head and she darted away from Howlite and prepared to launch her grapples at him.
"You know what I want. I want power, yes! Yeah, yeah, like a brand new toy. Yeah, yeah, like a new year's gift!" Variscite sang as she avoided Howlite with her grappling hooks and latched onto the celling above him instead. "You know what I want. Your gem in shards, yes! Flowers growing out of your eyes! Red weeds too, growing out of your skin. I'm getting hazy trying so hard not to be lazy. But don't call me crazy, though I might be, maybe.
Variscite pulls hard enough to tear off several tiles of the celling, sending them hurtling down toward Howlite.
Howlite leaped into the sir as the tiles fell. He used them to get higher, jumping from tile to tile. Eventually he caught up to her. "I like your style. It's such a shame that you assaulted me. You could've been a knight. Wait... Actually I take that back. To be a knight you need actual intelligence. You'd be more of... Our jester!" With that he grabbed hold of her and jumped towards the floor. "If I'm going down, you're going down with me!" Howlite knew there were many flaws to this plan. But it was his best shot.
Variscite could not break free of Howlite's grip. She braced and hit the floor headfirst, twisting her neck. Variscite's body looked broken and tears streamed from her face, yet she still leaped to her feet and began to slash across rapidly at midrange as before, dodging and rolling side to side while doing so.
"You know what I want. I want friends, yes! Reliable friends, strong friends! I wish to be held so don't touch me. Do you understand me? If you know how to sing my song, shut up and strum along~"
The hard hit from Howlite had almost fixed Variscite's head; almost poofed her too. But her gem was shockingly resistant to poofing; shattering as well. She managed to correct her wild posture enough to seal off the majority of her openings.
As Howlite fell he he could think was 'don't hit my back. Don't hit my back." Well he didn't. He hit his face. All the force went into his form. He was almost done for. One more hit and he'd poof. He slowly rise up and grinned. "Oh you like to sing eh? I've got a tune for you." He started to sing, "why do you fight me? What's the use in trying? With every strike I'm getting even faster than you are. And no matter how you stall me, your end is inevitable. Why do you fight me? What's the point in trying?" He took a defensive stance.
Howlite was still seriously injured from the chandelier. Still he stood his ground. He caught the first hook but then the second delivered a final blow. It managed to pierce him. He looked down at it. "No no no." As he started glowing he looked to Sulfur. All he had time to say was, "I'm sorry Boss." Then his form exploded and his gem hit the floor. He had been defeated. This couldn't be. He was winning. Then it hit him. Yes he was dodging most but those few hits he took were big ones. Plus the chandelier... He shouldn't have done that. If he hadn't he may of won. Howlite began to wish he wasn't so easy to poof. He had failed Sulfur and he had failed himself. He was supposed to be the best at breaking gems. And now he failed to Variscite? It was unacceptable.
Sulfur stood and looked at Variscite with a glazed look in his eyes. He stood and hovered in the air. As he flew toward her it was almost instant that he was in front of her, not enough time for her to react to her capture of Howlite. He snatched up Howlite's gem, bubbled it, and sent it to the thirteenth floor. He then turned back to Variscite with a mixture of a glare and a smirk. He then, started to sing.
"Well well well! Now look what we have here? A little warrior! How queer! Ha ha!" Sulfur floated behind Varis and spoke into her ear as he sang. "You think you're so braaave when you can't at least behave! Oh look at you dear! Look at my chan-de-lieeer!"
Sulfur gestured toward the chandelier for a while, then returned his gaze to Varis.
"Oh yeah you think you can fight, you think that you beat my knight but now you're cooking with the king babeh!" Then Sulfur paused, putting his finger on his lips. He then added a comment without singing. "Actually, I'm just a count, not really a king..." Sulfur paused for a moment and then returned to his song.
"You won't last long... won't last long... once you're cooking with the count!" Suddenly Sulfur was on a staircase near her. He draped his body across the staircase as he sand. "You cant face my latter without expecting a quick shatter! You can kick it with a crystal gem, You can duke it with a homeworld gem... but a Broken gem... -that's us by the way, YOU CAN'T TOUCH!"
Sulfur was suddenly next to Varis. He put one arm around her and held up an alien skull, probably from Howlite's ship.
"Well now what can you surmount... when you're cooking with the count... You won't last long! Oh no! Not very long at ALLLLL babeh!" he dropped the skull and it splineted apart. "Oh let's look at are menu, You can either get broken into splinters... cracked into shards... or maybe just work the printers! Ah ha! An office job, now how about that? Just kiiiiidding!"
"The count doesn't wanna see you strut your stuff, fight me and I`ll pound you into fluff! Can't let you go, so just go with the flow!" Sulfur spun in front of Varis and did a few shoulder peps as he danced back and forth. "So what is it dear? Will you join us here? Become his squire and obey all his desires? Or do you want to cook with the count some more..."
Sulfur smirked viciously, but then stood and returned to a serious expression.
Variscite was shocked that she had managed to somehow defeat Howlite. More importantly, her mind had put itself back together. She stared at the Count as if she were blind and could not see him. If Variscite were alone, she might just allow herself to poof from exhaustion and fatigue, but face to face with the leader of the Broken gems... she could not... had to appear stronger than she felt.
It would take only two seconds for the Count to shatter Variscite how she was now, three if she was lucky. Variscite's weakened body made slight jerks, and trembles as she stood before him.
"Like a demon summoned from the abyss, I will fulfill all your twisted desires with relentless force."
Sulfur noticed that the gem was exhausted. He didn't know how it had happened that she had defeated Howlite, but he was sure that she was just lucky. He hoped that this gem would be a quiet one. The only constant chat he tolerated was with Smoky Quartz and Howlite. He was glad to have assigned her to him so that he could focus mainly on the task at hand. She could be a good test member.
"Before you become one of us you will have to be approved by the four founders of the Broken gems. I am the leader, but I cannot grant you access to our team without their consent." Sulfur said. "Also, you are to not only fulfill my desires but his. You will be his squire but a broken gem nevertheless. Any questions before we begin?"
This gem lead a small group of three other gems. Rather than many weak gems, it seemed he had a few powerful soldiers. Anyone working for this count probably was... If she joined them here, she would be able to train relentlessly against even stronger opponents. Variscite was amused that she had initially thought she was one of the strongest beings in the universe. She was not even close to her aim.
Variscite did not understand what it meant to be Howlite's "squire" as the Count so poetically put it, but she didn't care. Here was a chance she would not pass up. She rolled her eyes back to their correct location and fixed her gaze on the green gem.
Sulfur needed to put this gem through a stricter initiation than his current comrades. She was a shady gem to say the least. She seemed to not know what squire meant, or else she no doubt would have protested. Still, she agreed to this and was bound by her agreement. Were she to break it, he would break her. He almost wanted her to betray they, he liked any shatter he could get. She seemed to be ready for whatever unspecified dealings she was to participate in. Sulfur nodded.
"alright... we will meet in my castle. Since you are not a broken gem just yet you cannot know the way." Sulfur mused. "This will hurt."
Suddenly ten blades dug into her from all directions.
Variscite felt like her entire body had been hollowed out at once. Was this initiation, or simply the Count's way of getting back at her for not respecting him. With all her might Variscite tried not to poof, but her body had been destroyed. As Varicite began to lose consciousness, she planed for her next appearance.
'Since you are not a broken gem just yet you cannot know the way.' So I am falling deeper into these black waters... I am entering the castles deepest chambers...
With her remaining form, Veriscite gave a weak grin, and as swords impaled her on all sides, could not help but believe she had made the right choice.
Variscite let lose a hellish shriek as she finally retreated to her gem.
