He blinked, and it seemed almost robotic how he did it, and then demured "Yes... it is just a hole that fits you perfectly... gems do not human things. Gems do not require time to do anything but be still for a bit when not engaged in something specific. A hole that is made for your exact dimensions is the perfect place to stand perfectly still... " and then he frowned, asking with some uncertainty "You are a gem, and did't know this? "
He motioned in a specific way that may not mean anything to Varis, outlining a common space in a Homeworld building "A Janitor gem is called to do specific cleaning activities at specific times and places, or sent on missions to clean when necessary. When I was not otherwise ordered to a specific task or place, myself and the other Titanites, though all gems do this, stayed in our holes and waited until we were needed again. " He make a very confused face "This is very normal routine... why are you not aware of gem routine? What happened to your Gem Coordinator and Supervisor? "
He scoffed loudly at the insinuation that all gems fought. "All gems fighting is very inefficient! Gems are made for many and all purposes. There are Leaders, like the diamonds, and supervisors, and janitorial, and inventors, and warriors, and guards, and scouts, and pilots, and builders, really... everything. All gems are made to serve specific and useful purposes. There are warriors yes, but they are a minority of the Gem population. And often sent out into other worlds, more so than being on Homeworld. You are more likely to find ruby guard units than you are to find... say... Quartz warriors. They are very big, and very strong, and needed for more important things than staying in their hole on Homeworld. " Then he pushed his palm against his chest and said proudly "I am a janitor, I have never fought. Thought... of course, most Gems are taught combat for self defense or emergency situations. But Janitorials are not encouraged or trained in combat. We have far too much other training to do to waste time with silly fighting practice. "
Of course, that his janitorial skills could be used for combat had never occurred to him.
When Varis asked questions, he of course BEAMED LIKE THE HAPPIEST CLAM. He cupped his hands together "Variscite Facet Unknown, Cut Unknown... " he said joyously, using Varis' full designation as it stood "I am so glad you asked... "
He started gesturing wildly as his mouth started to spit out words at the speed of blazing hot bullets "Wellyouseeanalyticsisthecompilingoflargeamountsofdatapointstocreatecomplexandaccuratecrossmaps,studiesandunderstandingofcomplexsystems.Whennewgemsarecreated,everypossibledatapointisaddedtoaverybigdocumentthatincludesallmannerofthingslikehowmanygemsresultedinestimatedbestcaseresultsbasedontheoriginalcreationdesireandpurpose,theirsize,strength,characteristicappearance,intelligence,abilitytoachieveintheirrolesuchascombat,leadership,cleaning,organization,protection,piloting,etc.Oncealltheseplotpointsaresummarizedbasedontheirimportance,relevance,accuracyandeveryothermetricresultscanbederivedastothesuccessofthatgemversioningoutcome.ForExample,theprevioustitanitemodelwasmeanttobelarge,imposing,powerfulquartzlikewarriors,butthefailurerateofgeneratingthin,small,weak,andunimposinggemsqualifiedthemasafailure.ontheotherhand,thesesmallthingemswereveryagileandintelligentandcapableoffittingwellintomanyplaces,andbeingunobtrusive.Therefore,theoriginalversioningofthesegemswasanABJECTfailure,andtheywereretrofittedwithamoreappropriaterolethatcouldutilizewhatwasoriginallyconsideredadefect…creating,well…Idon'tmeantobragoranything…TitaniteJanitorialslikeme."
It was convenient at times like these that Gems didn't need to breathe. Because he didn't take a big sigh or inhale at all before he continued on with the Diamond explanation.

Simple? Who cares, he just loved sharing what he knew. This was even better than cleaning, for him, sometimes.
Then he stoped, and blinked, listening quietly while Varis explained in return. This was working out perfectly. Data exchange at its almost finest. I mean, all this asking and reasking for information was HUGELY inefficient, but they'd gotten over the hiccups and were down to the data sharing stage which was his very favorite. Ahh... so satisfying.
He got lost in his own dreamy happiness of the moment, before he realized Varis was still talking, and blinked a few times as he started to pay attention again, by the time Varis asked him about the volcano dumpster. He'd missed all of that stuff about Homeworld trying to destroy Earth by consuming all of its resources in his day dreaming.
He sputtered, and waved his hand dismissively. "Oh... pffftt, not much at all really. Its a very large and effective volcano, and I've only been putting things in it for a day or two. " Then again... he cleaned VERY fast, and Beach City and the surrounding area was INSANELY messy... so for him, a couple of days... was quite a lot of garbage. When he found the nearby landfill... then maybe it was time for Varis to worry about what might happen with the volcano.
