The warp pad was about a two hour walk from where Sulfur was waiting. He had given Variscite a cell phone, a human communication device. Although he was not waiting near the warp pad, he gave clear directions to where he currently was. He was in fact, on the half point of a large frozen volcano. Pools of lava were scattered around the summit of the mountain. This place was for some reason full of a seemingly endless amount of corrupted gems. It was just a phenomena of the world, one of life's great mysteries. Sulfur wasn't there to marvel over the universe however, he was there to hunt down an old enemy. A specific corruption that had continued to elude him.
This corruption was so powerful in fact, that his new trainee, Variscite, was asked to come with him. Variscite had not officially joined him yet, and he was using this as a sort of test. It would involve several corrupted gem battles and the battle with the one, deadly corruption. Monsters were easy for Sulfur, he felt that he could scale the mountain with ease and not have to worry about death, but he was worried about his foe. It had been two hours since he had called her, but even if she had left immediately as he had contacted her she would not have arrived just yet. He waited near the midpoint of the mountain for his trainee to arrive.
The warp pad cracked to life, Variscite emerged, ready to kill (literally). She observed the hostile biome she was currently in.
The place had the appearance of a volcano covered in ice. Jagged, black, volcanic rocks protruded from the snow covered ground. Ice, cold, glacier water surrounded this dangerous-looking island. Brown gases flowed from the mountain top, harmful toxins with enough venom to suffocate and burn any thing that would enter its lethal trail. Certainly a harsh contrast to the tropical island Howlite had used to train her on. The tragic gem allowed an ironic smirk to form on her face.
Was Sulfur waiting to ambush her? Likely. She prepared for the worst and began to slowly walk up the cold icy mountain. Stretching and jogging to loosen up her tightening body. Variscite had figured this would be a difficult mission, but had not expected this.
Sulfur watched the blizzard of ice and ash with a serene expression. It seemed that he was oddly comfortable in the dangerous area. He noticed from the corner of his eye that a rodent-like corrupted gem was charging toward him. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, seeming to not acknowledge his attacker. The beast jumped, fangs prepared to bite into his neck. Sulfur came to life, twisting at the waist he plunged a single blade into it's head with his arm. As he pierced the creature he stepped forward to use his entire body in the hit. The beast poofed. Sulfur closed his eyes and thrust his blade downward splintering the gem apart.
"Hello Vari, I didn't see you at first." Sulfur said without turning around. It was uncertain how he knew she was near.
"Variscite approached Sulfur with respect, but did not try to actually change the way she walked for him. Yes, this gem wanted his followers to respect him, but no one likes a needy, feeble person who obviously is trying hard to fake a certain reverence that was nonexistent. He was strong. That was enough for Variscite to have a strange, but rooted reverence for him. Variscite could be brutally honest without fear. She realized that the Count seemed to tolerate her better than in their previously strange encounters. Perhaps it was only because something was on his mind. Yes. He had a concerned look on his face indeed. Something about this place seemed to be bothering him. Or was it her own imagination.
As Variscite reached a twelve foot radius of Sulfur, she stopped. The gem paused for a second... then spoke.
"I am here Count." She quickly bowed and then straightened. "What is my assignment?"
Sulfur then turned toward her and slowly approached her on foot. He paused as a gust of snow and ash blew between them. He smiled gently.
"We're going on a hunt. We are going to climb this mountain and fight every beast we come across..." Sulfur said with a grin. He then became gravely serious and looked at Variscite. "Are you weak Vari? can you shatter them? Most gems are reluctant. They are however, just monsters. Mindless beings that must be destroyed. On this mission you cannot bubble any of them. They are all to be shattered. All of their shards will go toward Blue's experiments. If you bubble a single gem I will shatter you on the spot."
He looked into her eyes as if staring into her soul.
This time Variscite could not help but let a subtle grin show. She had been hunting down these abominations for power for all of her time training. Usually Variscite poofed the creature and left, since she had already fulfilled the mission she sought out to complete. Hopefully, the corrupted gem would challenge her again, and then she could reenact the battle. She saw no use in shattering a sparing partner permanently. 'Why waste an opportunity to get stronger?' But these gem shards would be used for the experiments of another Broken gem, so there was reason to shatter them. While Variscite generally felt bad for corrupted gems, she would not hesitate to shatter them if it helped achieve her purposes.
"Yes. I understand. I will completely shatter as many corrupted gems as I can and collect the shards."
With that, Sulfur bolted up the mountain, extremely fast as he levitated a foot off of the ground. From the corner of his eyes he saw a corruption leap at him. It resembled a small red monkey with a square head. A ruby. He didn't stop running, he twirled his blade and stabbed under it's chin. His blade emerged out of the top of it's head. Spinning to the right he sliced the gem, breaking it apart. As he continued to run a large beast approached him, a quartz. It charged and he jumped into the air. Stabbing his blade downward he ran along the back of the beast, digging into it with his sword. It roared in agony but did not poof. It leapt into the air and fell, in attempt to crush Sulfur under it. Three blades came up and pierced it's underside. It poofed, and as the gem fell Sulfur caught it in his teeth and crushed it.
Variscite was no longer shocked at what this gem could do. He was the primary reason she wanted to join his organization in the first place. There was only one suitable answer to this question.
With that Variscite sprinted, covering distance on the mountain. A large snow leopard beast with spines covering its body like hair combed behind it appeared. The tail functioned like flagella, whipping to urge the beat forward. Variscite preformed a frontflip over the beast and readied her self behind it, launching out both grappling hooks. The creature stuck its tail into the ground to stop it from continuing on past Variscite and then used in to maneuver around her grapples, making a b line for the green gem. As it pounced on her she inverted her launchers, extending her two short swords, and stabbed the leopard through the head and neck, poofing it. She then remembered her promise to the Count and shattered it.
Sulfur grinned in creepy satisfaction as his trainee shattered the gem.
"Excellent..." He mumbled as he watched. "Come now! Let's go!"
Sulfur charged up the mountain. Occasionally he would somersault or front flip to scale high or rocky surfaces. He would often use his blades to scale steep walls. He was sure that Variscite could keep up with her grappling hooks. They soon reached a bridge above two pools of lava. Orange, scorpion-like corruptions emerged. They had a cluster of crystals for eyes and their gem was in the center. At least seven of them emerged from the lava.
"Topaz hm..." Sulfur said, moving back to back with Variscite. He smirked. "Are you ready Vari? Let's take them out! I will do the right side, you do the left!"
Variscite darted in the left direction firing her grappling hooks and the beasts. The first one was grazed by the hook but then broke free. The second was shot through completely. The sheer force of the launch was enough to poof and shatter the corrupted gem. A third scorpion swum its tail at Variscite. She moved her torso out of the way made distance between her remaining opponents. Variscite then made multiply slashing motions across to derail her adversaries. The scorpions had their tails and claws removed by the large, jagged hooks. Then the artful gem saw something coming from the corner of her eye. She back flipped in time to see two more leopard corrupted gems skid to a stop, drooling green acid. While Variscite was airborne, she extended her grappling hooks to collide with the defenseless scorpions, poofing and shattering them each. As she descended to the floor she prepared for her two difficult opponents.
Sulfur skipped backwards, dodging several attacks from the scorpions. Sulfur leapt into the air, twirled and stabbed downward, piercing the skull of one of the scorpions. As he poofed it a tail came toward him. blocking with his sword sulfur rammed his knee into it's gem. As the gem was stunned by the attack Sulfur wrenched it's gem from it's location with his free hand. The other two scorpions leapt at Sulfur as he did this, giving him no time to face them. Four blades, two for each scorpion materialized and pierced them.
It was then that Sulfur nearly was hit by a ball of acid. A leopard was charging toward him at full throttle. Leaping into the air Sulfur landed hard on it's back, causing intense pain. Six blades jabbed into the sides of the creature, but it did not poof. Sulfur struggled to remain on the back of the beast. He caused the blades to spin like drills. This poofed the beast. Sulfur grunted as he quickly slashed through all of the gems lying at his feet, shattering them.
Variscite turned to attack the second leopard, but it was already upon her, sinking its sharp, crystal-like teeth into her stomach, and tearing at her physical form. Variscite sliced of one of its forearms with her a sword and cut the corrupted gem on the chest, driving it away.
Variscite stood, furious to have displayed poor judgement in front of the Count. And used surrounding mounds of snow and rock to glide above the creature. With only three legs it could still dodge her grappling hooks almost perfectly, but had to almost constantly change direction with its tail. The creature shot out a focused stream of spikes from its body. Variscite cartwheeled to dodge and shot her grapples at odd angles while evading the projectiles. The creature was unsure of how to dodge the oddly calculated lunges, which formed an L shape. It moved only have a grapple hooked in its head, splitting its skull. The corrupted gem howled in pain as Variscite contracted her weapon, pulling herself to the creature to slice its midsection, poofing it. Then Variscite stomped on the gem to shatter it.
"Let's continue." Sulfur said, running up the mountain. The air started to get immensely cold, puddles of lava lessened. A large appendage that seemed to be a tentacle dove at Sulfur from a cave nearby. Sulfur's ten blades appeared and became a flurry, slicing the tentacle apart. Due to the size of the tentacle, Sulfur figured that the beast might be too strong for Variscite.
"I`ll be back... stay here and fend off anything that comes your way." Sulfur leapt at least twenty feet down, stopping two feet from the cave floor. Dropping onto the floor he charged into the cave with both of his swords. behind Variscite however, was a large beast resembling a rhinoceros. It roared and charged from behind, in attempt to pierce her back.
Variscite turned to face the corrupted gem, alone. She had fought bigger, and won, but she would be careful not to let her guard down. Variscite dashed out of the way, letting the creature plow into a snowbank. As it shook and began turning around, Variscite stood this time in front of a bolder the rhinoceros charged full force, clearly to thickheaded to learn from what had just happened. As it came, Variscite leaped into the air and charged an pushed off the bolder, soring above the beast as it collided into a less forgiving mound. Variscite moved through the air upside down and launched her grapple at a precarious bolder on top of a cliff. The potential energy shifted to kinetic as the large rock came rushing down on the dazed creature.
As sulfur entered the cave he immediately noticed how large it was. Looking around and squinting in the murky darkness he activated the light on his gem. As he crept into the cave a tentacle lashed out at him. Sulfur ducked to the left but the tentacle moved as it shot toward him, slapping him against the left wall of the cave. Grunting in pain Sulfur tried to recover but the tentacle wrapped around him and bashed him hard against the ground.
Sulfur yelled in rage summoning all ten of his weapons. The swords flew in complex, yet chaotic patterns, slicing and dicing the tentacle. As more tentacles came he reduced them to strips of flesh. He panted heavily, nearly poofed. He charged at the source of the tentacles. As he saw the beast's head he attempted to stab it with a blade in his hand. The beast's beak darted out, grabbing the tip of his sword. He pulled as hard as he could, if the beast got his blade it was all over. Suddenly he reversed and shoved the blade forward, stabbing deep into the back of it's neck. The beast poofed and Sulfur grabbed it's large gem. Five blades hammered down on it, shattering it. Sulfur collapsed on the floor, that had been a close call.
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
