Spider always had a bit of an… Identity issue.
She was a four armed fearsome assassin on homeworld. Her fangs could fill with poison and scared the most powerful of gems. She was a tall dark monster.
But here, on earth, she was nothing. A freak. Still feared. Even by human standards. But at least now… She could do what she wanted.
She had tossed around the idea of joining the Crystal Gems for the longest time. She had found herself enjoying not living under homeworlds thumb and the ability to do what she wished whenever she wanted…
Then there was her friend Morion. The Smokey quartz had painted himself into a rather picture in Empire City. He offered many things she hadn’t been able to get to herself, but… It meant swearing herself to Homeworld to again.
Spiders worked best in herds, more then one in a group. It raised the chances for the effectiveness of the poison she carried in her mouth but… Maybe that was why she had putting so much pressure on herself to join a side. She had wanted her herd but when she hadn’t been able to find one she liked… She retreated.

In some dingy bar in Empire city there was a piano sitting in the darkest corner. Smoke filled with the room and no one seemed interested in talking in the bar. The humans nursed their drinks and made no eye contact… But Spider played the piano.
A haunting melody came from the piano as she played the ivory. Two of her four eyes closed and the other pair staring forward into space as if they weren’t really in the room at all.
One set of her four hands worked the keys flawlessly, almost as if she had playing the piano for years now… In reality, she had been taking lessons since before her disappearance and as any good gem could attest kept at it till she was by far better.
With the additional set of hands she could make some haunting notes come from the piano but tonight she was just using the two. Her body swayed a bit as the sound rounded its final chords and she lifted her hands from the keys.
There was no applause. No difference in ambiance. Spider sighed and closed all four eyes before getting up, she put on the human baseball cap, pulling it low to cover the eyes and tucking her hands into the sweater. Hiding the extra appendages in the bagginess the sweater had to offer. She waved to the human at the counter, who waved back, and Spider set out foot out into the real world.
The human world.
