Lady Blue had everything prepared for the tournament, she loved to battle so much that she would give it a go to try entertain herself. She folded her arms while being sent through the glistening tunnel of teal aura teleporting her to the sky arena, a gem battle area, in which then she stepped off the warp pad and headed up the stairs to begin awaiting the participants along with the audience. Beside her would be her pearl in which then she would command her pearl to send off a alert stating that the tournament is soon to begin. Lady Blue standed firm at the center of the arena having her arms behind her back she continued to wait for those who signed up previously to come. The Green Pearl would then do as was told, using a flute used to alert warp pads she would use it however in a different way, instead of activating the warp pad she used it as a messenger and sent a message throughout the warp hoping some gems will get it.
Howlite had received word of a tournament. He couldn't pass this up. He warped to the arena. It seemed he got there first. He scanned the area and spotted a very familiar signature. Lady Quartz. He approached her and grinned. Makes sense that this was your idea. You and your research I tell ya. What are you researching this time? Who will lose to me first? I'm starting to question who would willingly sign up to fight me..... Actually a lot of people would. Oh this'll be fun! He started to look at the arena itself. It was fairly large. Plenty of room. Who was coming? And why? Please tell me I'm at least getting something out of this Lady Quartz.
Some of us would say something like, "the warp pad activated." But that isn't what happened.
The warp pad exploded with a brilliant light, no longer an inert ambiguously-crystalline disc sunk into the stone tiles of the sky arena, but instead became a beacon. A beacon that announced the arrival of a gladiator. It was not a beacon of hope, no, no it represented something far less jovial than that. It was a beacon that drew the bloodiest combatant ever known to gem history books to this dread arena, so that they may conquer and slay all things in their path. The light obscured them as their silhouette began to manifest in the curtains of soft light that was to be expected of a warp pad's warp.
But then the light fizzled out, and the gladiator was in plain view of the undoubtedly terrified onlookers. Their head was hung low, obscuring much of their savage face. The warrior's arms were stuffed with papers, gripping tightly onto them in a crushing and deadly hug that would almost certainly have destroyed the spines of any foe that would be unfortunate enough to be caught in it. The head turned, and its terrifying eyes could be seen (if you kind of squinted and looked really hard, since her head was currently fixated on a particular-looking insect on the ground), wide and sleepless and hysterical, with far too much white surrounding the grey irises and far too much grey under the eye itself. It was a gaze devoid of thought or compassion or any kind of coherent concept known to man, partly because you couldn't really see it properly and therefore there simply wasn't enough evidence to come to a conclusion as to exactly what those eyes meant.
Then it smiled - if such an expression could ever be called a smile - a hellish grimace of inhuman, corrupted gem-like teeth that one would loath to find in their wickedest nightmare. A fissure appeared between the two sets of gravestone molars as the mouth opened, unleashing vile fumes and toxic gas - indeed, there was no breath like this breath. All breath that had come before this breath were mere shadows of the true breath. And like an apocalyptic herald, the scream that followed after would forever be gouged like a barbaric wound into the annals of history:
Ruby practically somersaulted off of the warp pad, partly on purpose but mostly because she misplaced her foot and fell off of the platform. Dragging herself back up to her feet as she blinked multicoloured stars out of her vision, she breathed in a huge sigh of contentment at the sight of the bright morning sky and the early spring sunrise. She could almost taste the drops of blue and gold that greeted her from the sky.
The papers scattered as Ruby took her tumble, crumpled sheets spreading along the arena's surface. Now that they were in a more plain view, their contents could be more easily seen.
THE GRAND GEM TOURNAMENT Fights For the Ages Gladiatorial Combat is all the Rages To the Victor Goes a Prize!* Go on Rampages! *validity of prize may vary.
Since the actual identity of the prize had not been explicitly stated, Ruby came to the logical conclusion that her reward was that she would have one wish granted for free. It is safe to assume that any wish Ruby would make would, in some way, revolve around her defeating her nemesis, Rose Quartz. Whether by wishing for all knowing, all consuming power over every living thing, or directly wishing for her to get hit by a low-flying aircraft, it remains to be seen.
Indeed, Ruby had marked the date in her calendar (that she stole out of a local retired couple's waste bin. It was actually dated 2005, but don't tell her that. You'll break her heart.) and stayed up burning the candle at both ends for the last few nights preparing for this day. This day had been coming, and she had waited. She had prepared, practiced, and readied herself for this event. Revenge schemes delayed, her short moments of calm and relaxation had been erased from her schedule. Nothing else mattered except for today. Today, she was going to show off the products of her determination and obsession.
Ruby hopped away from the warp pad and scampered away down the stairs. That irrepressible jubilation one feels about the prospect of a good day bubbled up inside her, only getting stronger as she stepped down closer to the arena. And it was going to be a good day. All her preparation were in order. The sun was shining. She had her sweet revenge just within reach.
Today was going to be a good day.
It was not a long walk to the landing pads (and therefore an even shorter sprint), so Ruby made it in good time to be one of the first contestants to arrive. She whimsically waved hello to the two gems she had absolutely zero interest in, (unless she was supposed to just start throwing punches, and she really didn't think she was supposed to do that just yet.) and simply sat herself down near the center of the arena, folding her legs and humming a merry tune to herself.
This ruby was functionally identical to every other ruby. The only real distinguishing features are the gem on her forehead and the gap in her teeth. But there are small differences in every ruby ever made, as imperfections appear in every mass-produced Homeworld soldier. But Ruby didn't mind being like every other ruby. It let her feel like she was a part of something.

Moonstone didn't even bother using the warp pad. Instead, he wanted to have a more dynamic entrance. He rode his hoverboard to the sky arena at a blazing speed. He zipped above the arena at that speed when he leapt off, did a front flip, and landed on both of his gravity connecters. His hoverboard, however, didn't stop as he had programmed it to go to the Crystal Temple until he called it with a remote device that he had on him.
"Hmph! I heard that there was a tournament. This shall be fun..."
He looked at the contestants. One of them happened to be a mere Ruby. That won't be a challenge. He also saw a Quartz as well. He glanced at Howlite as well, before looking away into the distance, with his scarf fluttering with the wind.
Bloodstone hummed to themselves as they hopped off of the warp pad, hood up over their head
"Well..this should be interesting to say the least."
Octi was in their male persona as the berserker took in the scene, looking around the Sky Arena as various thoughts went through his head. Thoughts of just who the fights might be against, what the odds are that he wins or loses, those sort of things.
"Wonder if there might be a bracket of some kind..I know the humans love using them for tournaments."
Bloodstone started walking around, acting casual but he knew that if there were any gems that knew him, fighting might not be so easy. The berserker had a chance to quite literally win the whole thing simply due to being one of the more powerful gems around. Of course that's not his fault, after all it was Homeworld that made the gem have his trademark berserker mode. Unfortunately there aren't any fish to punch so..maybe there will be some gems instead that can be met face to fist.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
