Above the busy streets and crowded walkways of Empire City flew a green light, barely a speck to catch one's eye against the setting Sun. With music on and hair straightened by the wind, Peridot surveyed the city below her. Her boots made a high-pitched whistle that was drowned out with whatever muffled song was coming from her ears. Not spotting anything that caught her eye immediately, Peridot found a tall skyscraper to land on. Her approach was rapid and her stop was sudden, ending with a gentle touchdown. She stood at the edge of the tall building and took another long look at the cityscape. A moment later her fingers formed into a data screen and she tapped a few things on it, bringing up a map that only pointed out where Empire City was but didn't have any other important details. She let a frustrated grumble and closed the screen. This is where her search had led her, where she was told she could find other loyalists. She hadn't spotted what she was after from the sky and she wasn't even sure what she was looking for.
She didn't want to attract attention so she left her tiny transport ship in what she suspected was an abandoned structure. Humans had a tendency to forego use or upkeep of buildings that they no longer needed after all. With the droves of humans wandering around below her she figured there'd be minimal use in taking a ground approach and she hated large crowds to begin with. She'd stay above the smell of the ground below if possible. She took off her visor, ran her cylindrical fingers through her wind-battered hair and put it back on. She'd find what she was looking for eventually.
Howlite was out looking for anything to take his mind off his pain. He climbed up a skyscraper to relax. Maybe sleep. Suddenly a ship was coming. He quickly hid behind a central air vent so he couldn't be seen. He watched as a Peridot came out. She was different than most though. As she ran her fingers through her hair, he came out of his hiding place and approached her. Excuse me miss? Are you okay? You seem troubled. Perhaps I could help? He held out his hand to offer a handshake. Name's Howlite. Is there anything I could do to help you? I have talent in parkour, marksmanship, and tracking if any of that may be useful. I'd love to help you in any way I can.
Peridot almost jumped out of her limb enhancers when she turned around to see who was talking. An audible yelp and an awkward stance took place for a moment before she realized whoever approached her was not hostile. He had identified himself but that was about she really heard aside from the part about helping. She snapped out of her skittish stance and opened her screen, quickly recalling data on the Howlite gem type. "Yes, I could use some assistance, Howlite. I am Peridot Facet-5 Cut-9XN. Hmm..." she began to speak as her eyes glanced at her screen, reading what information was available to her about Howlites. "A scout. How fitting." she stated before closing her screen. "I am looking for gems loyal to Homeworld. I was told I could find them here. Hm, does your appearance assist in scouting large settlements such as this? Should I change mine?" she asked, pointing at Howlite's boots and up to his hoody, noting his clothes.
Howlite chuckled as Peridot asked about his clothes. Don't worry about your clothes Peridot. You'll be just fine. Oh and if you wanna learn about me, don't consult your files. They're inaccurate when it comes to me. Unless of course you search for the file of Facet 57ZD Cut 9XR. That's my file. Should tell you everything you need to know about me. Now then let's go! Empire City is home to the loyals. I have several contacts here if you'd like to meet them. You're best bet would be to look for my friends Flint Quartz and Blue Emerald-Quartz. They're the kindest loyals you'll ever meet. Except for Pearl at least. He's the nicest gem of all. Although he don't liked me too much anymore. Oh well. Just search for those 3 and you'll be just fine. Tell them I sent you. They'll take good care of you.
As Howlite spoke, Peridot stood with one hand holding her elbow and the other cupping her chin, listening with a concerned expression. Once he mentioned his facet and cut Peridot re-opened her screen. A larger screen was displayed before her, taking two fingers from each gauntlet and using the remaining six fingers to interact with it, she searched for Howlite's file. Her eyes analyzed screen with incredible speed and she scrolled through the data written in a gem script. 'Labeled as defective. Impressive mission reports. Rebel hunter. Perfect. But who are these other gems?' she wondered as she read the screen. Searching for gems, the Blue Emerald and Flint Quartz files brought up many results, but only two were connected to both each other and Earth. What came up was disturbing to her; the gems he had mentioned had been detained for treason and had escaped, presumably to Earth. There were no recent modifications to the files and Peridot closed her screen, placing her hands on her hips.
"Howlite, I don't believe the gems you speak of are who I seek." she stated, her voice soft in tone. "I had assumed there might be an army amassing here to regroup, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Then again you'd know this place better than I so I shouldn't doubt your judgment. Lead on, Howlite."
Howlite chuckled. Try to keep up! He jumped off of the building but did a quick parkour roll upon reaching the ground so he suffered no damage. He then looked up at Peridot. You coming? He wondered how she would get down. Would she do what he did? Probably not. Peridots weren't exactly famous for their athleticism. Peridots had no real training regarding movement. They were too busy staring at their screens all day. She'd get down... Somehow.... Maybe. Should he help her? He figured if she couldn't jump then her limb enhancers might help her land safely. He then scanned the area with his Tracker Vision. Empty of gems. Good. Last thing Howlite needed was a loyal or rebel trying to kill him. Again.
With a casual gait, Peridot walked over to the edge she had seen Howlite jump from. It wasn't that bad of a fall, but nothing she'd take a chance with. There was a quick smirk at his question and she stepped off the ledge. Focused flames erupted from her boots with a high-pitched whine, their green light intensifying only for a short burn to slow her descent. She landed next to Howlite with a simple thud as her thrusters cut off. "I can keep up. Let's go at your pace." she said. There was something that still felt wrong with the current plan of action, though she could only assume that Howlite was leading them the right way. "So we're headed to meet Quartz soldiers? Do they have a commander?" she asked.
Howlite grinned. Well not exactly. I'm not taking you directly to loyal Quartz soldiers. I'll die. Instead I'm gonna teach you to master this city so you can do things without assistance. The humans have a saying. "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he'll eat for life." That's exactly what I'm gonna do. He then looked around. What was gonna be the first lesson? Bars? Nightclubs? Fight clubs? He doubted Peridot would last in a fight club. Maybe a bar would be best. How about I take you to a bar? You seem like someone who could enjoy a drink or two. I got cash on me. Let's go! He offered her a hand to escort her.
Peridot approached Howlite to follow him anywhere he went, but she cast a confused look at his hand. "A bar? What is-- Howlite I'm failing to comprehend this concept; you would die if you took me to the Quartz soldiers? Are they not loyal to Homeworld? Are they not fighting against rebels? And if you require fish I know a Lapis Lazuli in Beach City who could assist, but I'm not quite certain what that would accomplish." she tried to explain, her soft tone carrying a sense of urgency and uncertainty. She took a moment to glance at her surroundings, as she had seen Howlite do twice. 'Is there something even he is worried about?' she wondered. A premonition told her that she wouldn't be meeting with the loyalists she came here for any time soon.
Howlite smiled as she was trying to understand everything. Peridot.... Do you trust me? I will make sure you meet loyals but first you need to learn. Otherwise you'll be stuck here without directions. So I ask you again, do you trust me? He wanted to teach her to thrive as he did. She didn't have a pack like he did. She had no one to help her or teacher anything. Howlite already had an apprentice so this wouldn't be too big of a stretch. He led her into the bar and bought them each a shot. He showed Peridot what to do by tapping her shoulder and then drinking the glass. Then he turned the glass upside down and set it on the counter.
"Extreme hesitation" would be an accurate description of Peridot's actions. She had quirked an eyebrow at the Howlite's question and didn't budge an inch. She folded her arms and rhythmic clinking could be heard as her fingers tapped against her gauntlet while she thought. 'His file showed no reason not to trust him. Does his defect make him crazy? Why would he ask that question? Clearly he has intent to lead me to... loyalists. A strange word. I took liberty with my time on this assignment by staying in the settlement of Beach City longer than needed, so no harm should come of learning of this settlement.' she reasoned with herself. "I trust you. But leaving me to my own devices in this place would not leave me helpless." she stated and followed him. The bar they strolled in to was a strange place for Peridot to witness. Smelly humans and otherwise dim lighting was not putting her mind at ease with any of this. Observing his actions of taking the shot on the counter, she tilted her head and looked at the other shot.
She was familiar with the concept of human consumption in that they needed water and flora to survive but not with whatever strange rituals were taking place here. "Do human concoctions even have an effect on you? I've heard some gems just enjoy the taste but..." she trailed off, finally taking the shot and setting the glass aside as he had. There was a hard pause for her as she found the liquid strangely difficult to swallow. It was beyond what she knew to be bitter and and gave a small cough. She inhaled, finding out that breathing only made this strange feeling worse and her eyes began to water. She looked at the glass and then back at Howlite, worried about what he had just given her.
Howlite shrugged when she asked about the effect. I don't get intoxicated but I love the head rush it gives me. Feels like my brain got hit by a bus. It's a good feeling. Suddenly Peridot didn't look too well. Oh jeez. She was a lightweight. So many gems were it seemed. He put a hand on her shoulder. The feeling will pass. Don't worry you're fine. You're just a lightweight that's all. It means you can't have alcohol without feeling like you are right now. Me? I never have a problem. How about you just have some water? That would probably suit you better. He bought her a glass of water and gave himself another shot. As he drank it down he looked back at her. He hoped she was ok.
Breathing felt worse than what was going on in her head at the moment, so she didn't breathe. After all, she had no need to aside from having air to talk with. She listened to Howlite's words but couldn't stop the tightening knot in her gut. Whatever she had drank, alcohol as he called it, her physical form wasn't happy with it. She stepped away from the bar and placed a hand on the wall, her other hand over her gem and she hunched forward. She had never felt queasy before and she wanted whatever was in her out. She coughed, weakly, then again and finally a forced heave. A blue flame erupted from her mouth and a look of surprise and dread overcame Peridot's face. She quietly inched back over to the bar and stood beside Howlite. A feeling of embarrassment was evident by the light blush on her cheeks, but the numbing calm she was getting might have been helping that.
Howlite cackled as Peridot threw up. Welcome to life in the city. Let me give you some advice. He stood up on a table and began to sing. We gotta clean you up child. And give you some on the job training ohhh yeah. Now listen up. You've got a lot to learn. And if you don't learn you don't eat. But if you're tough and always use your head you'll be right at home on the street. When you've got talent, everything is free. Watch how we do things. Ohhh I guarantee. You're gonna see how the best survive. We make an art out of staying alive. If you just do as you're told. These are Streets of Gold! The patrons cheered as Howlite took a bow. This was obviously something they were used to.
After coughing up fire the last thing she had expected to see was a Howlite hopping onto a table and breaking out into song. The blush that made its way onto her cheeks did not leave her face throughout the entire song. As the crowd began to clap and cheer, Peridot simply laughed a bit, drowned out by the sound of the patrons. There was strange numbing sensation she was feeling and she began to wonder if it was the drink she had earlier. She tried to focus on the situation, trying to think about how this new place and bitter drinks were supposed to help her learn about Empire City. She spoke up, loud enough to be heard above the crowd. "Strange drinks and singing to humans is how to survive the Streets of Gold? Howlite am I understanding this correctly?" she asked, scratching the side of her head.
Melody: how are you doing? Are you going to make a character in here?

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’.
