Mask Island was experiencing a storm, it was still a beautiful place, but it was covered with muddy sand. The geode-like rocks that were scattered about were very muddy and lost much of their beauty. The thunder growled loudly. Occasionally lightning would actually strike the island, enflaming a palm tree. The trees swayed in the wild wind as if they would be uprooted by it's force. The water too was affected. The waves no longer lapped gently on the shore, they violently rocked and smashed against the island.
Sulfur had come to relax, but nature had other plans. He sat inside of a cave on the island, waiting for the storm to pass. He leaned against the cave's wall. Sulfur managed to start a fire, but the wind blew rain into the cave, which sprinkled on the fire and limited it's size. It barely warmed him. He levitated over the fire to warm himself, but it was of little effect. He then landed at the mouth of the cave and watched the storm.
If one was to have a careful eye, they could see a dark blue gem, its surface flecked with gold, roughly wash up upon the shore. Thankfully for the gem inside, it wasn't roughed up too badly, otherwise it'd be an entirely different story. Regardless, the frothy waters deposited the stone upon a rocky outcropping, away from Sulfur's small cave.
Almost as soon as she'd landed on the slimy surface of the algae-covered boulders, the droplet was surrounded by a bright light, which proceeded to then block out the basic shapes of a body before defining itself with facial features, hair, and clothes. The terraformer was then dropped back down onto the rocks, now lacking the aerial support reforming from her gem had given her. Despite her last fight taking place around a month or so ago, Lazuli was still exhausted from the rather short battle. Rolling over and propping herself up on a free elbow, she spied a glow originating from a cave, appearing to be close to the shoreline. The wind whipped her hair and pants seaward as she continued to stare at the orange glow, now dimmer than she'd initially seen it.
Sulfur kicked the sticks away in frustration. The fire wasn't going to start. He looked out at the storm it too didn't seem to be subsiding any time soon. He turned on the light in his gem. This drained energy, but he wanted to be able to explore the cave a bit. It was then that he heard a soft 'pat' noise. There were several pitter patter noises of rain, but this was a harder noise. It was something alive, a corrupted gem most likely.
He pulled two blades from his gem and waited in the cave. He wasn't in the mood to hunt, but if the beast came at him he would be ready. He watched the storm carefully for signs of movement.
Continuing to lay down, Lazuli kept her eyes trained on the cave, even though it was just a cave and therefore relatively unlikely to move.
Even though her gaze was already locked onto said cave, it was the thing inside that caught her eye; a humanoid figure with two swords. Or at least, she saw the shadow of this figure. So, rather than keeping her distance or listening for literally any other creatures, the tired and blue lady crept towards the cave, which relatively unbeknownst to her at the time, contained a armed and dangerous gem, who it was worth mentioning probably still had yet to see her, and therefore couldn't really aim for her specifically.
Anyhow, It was still pretty dark and rainy, and since the fire'd gone out, Lazuli couldn't spy anything inside of this glorified crevice, save the occasional lightning strike, when the rocks inside would be shined upon for a second or two.
Sulfur's blade went to her throat, but stopped about an inch from it. Sulfur's expression was fierce at first, but then he sighed and lowered his blade. His shoulders slumped as he walked back toward the remains of the fire. He used his gem light to illuminate a small bit of the cave near them. He sat in full lotus and looked at the Lapis Lazuli that had entered the cave.
"Oh...It's just you." Sulfur said calmly, scraping at the sand with a sword. Thunder rumbled loudly, apparently lightning had struck nearby. He looked back at her without turning his head, only by moving his eyes. "You're taking shelter from the storm aswell I assume."
He looked into the depths of the cave.
"It's quite a shallow cave. Only about twenty meters deep." He said. "Not the best place to be stuck during a storm."
Lazuli was not in the mood to be threatened with swords. After all, she'd just woken up from her extended semi-coma and she'd almost been attacked. Who wouldn't be salty after that? Anyhow, she'd followed him into the cave, and had decided to exact some "revenge". That is, if revenge involved kicking someone in the back of the head.
"That's for almost killing me...a second time."
Her voice was tinged with bitterness, despite the second part being somewhat muttered. Regardless, Lazuli was one bitter lady who would-rather understandably-not take any attempts on her gem lightly, especially if she'd just woken up on a rather deserted island. Stupid island. Why couldn't she have washed up on somewhere even relatively populated?
"I suppose that is only fair!" He said. He then shivered as a cold wind passed over them. He brushed some hair from his eyes as the wind blew it into his face. "I don't think you can create fire yes? That would be most peculiar as you are a lapis lazuli..."
"I believe that the storm will rage for another half hour, then it will subside to the extent that we can leave this cave." Sulfur said, eyeing the storm. He started to levitate in the air. He floated on his back as if reclining in an invisible hammock. "Tell me Lapis, what is it that you do to amuse yourself? That should be quite easy as you enjoy water...which is...well... abundant here..." Sulfur said gesturing to the storm.
Still quite bitter about the past event, Lazuli's words came off short and curt, sounding as though she'd spat them out;
"Do I look like I can make fire? And I suppose you're a flora fanatic, due to your chartruse hue then. Besides, If I wanted to "Amuse Myself" I'd have thrown you out of the cave by now, you murderous cretin."
She leaned on the wall, crossed her arms, and gave the green glowstick of a gem a piercing glare, as much as she could muster at that point, which happened to be quite a bit. Soon her faced had been warped into sour scowl, the storm outside seemingly getting more intense the longer her furious stare was locked onto the gem.
Sulfur didn't seem much fazed by her words. His expression seemed entirely relaxed. His eyelids were lowered, his face muscles seemed relaxed, and he wore a faint grin on his face. As she spoke it was as if she weren't speaking at all, his face didn't react, not even a slight flinch. To most this would be a bit creepy. Once she had finished speaking Sulfur did a flip in the air and returned to his reclined position. Due to his expression he seemed uncomfortable in his current pose and decided to lay on his side.
He greeted her glare with his calm expression. He was silent for a long time as the two locked eyes. He made absolutely no movements, and eventually even ceased to blink.
Increasingly annoyed by his calm demeanor, Lazuli decided to kick a rock towards him before walking out to the mouth of the cave, where some projection was in order. As she knelt near the edge of the water, the blue lady spread her arms above the turbulent surface, calming it so that there was a glassy circle present in the water in front of her. As her eyes glassed over, vague pictures began to form, clarifying every second that she continued. Most of which, were still fairly blurry on the water's surface, especially near the edges. Though, there were some images of prevailing clarity; a roaming eye, a trident, and the glossy blue of the warp pad. Though, the rest just tended to swirl around.
At this action Sulfur glared. His hand shot out and caught the rock before it hit his face. He was able to remain calms with her sass and even the kick she gave him, but acts of aggression would make a quick end to his patience. He squeezed the rock tightly before throwing it against the far wall of the cave. At this point he normally felt a desire to shatter a gem like her, but after what Howlite had done to him, he was unwilling. He too weak to shatter even the most pitiful of corruptions that he poofed, his body seemed to force him to spare them. In fact, Sulfur did have a concept of pity, but mistook it for a bodily flaw as he did not understand what pity was.
He watched Lapis toy with the water, putting one hand under his chin. He would have preferred to be trapped with more lively company, but then again he did nearly kill her twice. Gems always took near death experiences so personally! Sheesh!
And now, a list of things Lazuli does not like -Dying -Comas -People snooping on her memories
What Sulfur was doing -Snooping (on a certain gem's memories)
Snitches get Stitches. Or in this case, snoopers. Can a gem even get stitches? Doesn't really matter too much, you've probably gotten the point by now. At least most of the memories were blurry? Anyhow, our resident A.E.T. (Aggressive Environment Terraformer) sent a fist flying in an unintentionally smooth uppercut, heading straight for Sulfur's chin, or rather the back or side of his head given how close he was standing. Chances are, it would connect and (hopefully) the blow would knock him aside far enough to where she could abscond caveward.
Sulfur's eyes widened and he leapt into the air, levitating seven feet from the floor.
"Woah! Easy Lazuli, I will give you your space. I was but curious to see what you were doing with your elemental magic." Sulfur floated away from her and moved to three feet above the floor. He sighed and rubbed his face. "Come now Lapis Lazuli, I know that you despise me, which is only logical, but if we can learn to live as acquaintances rather than enemies then sitting in this cave won't be so unbearable. At this rate I`ll be talking to myself!"
He chuckled but stopped, realizing that it was true.
"Your actions are justified Lapis Lazuli, but I would appreciate it if we could be civil."
Civil? Civil? Why was he trying to be civil all of a sudden? He'd only just spied on her! But oh sure! Now they'd be able to be civil. 100%.
"I see no reason not to be.' she replied, mocking his tone.'I mean, you definately didn't just spy on me."
The caveward abscondation was still being seriously considered, and it almost showed. Almost. Though, it'd probably be best to not show off anything too personal. After all, Sulfur might see. And that probably wouldn't go over well at all. So, for everyone in the cave's sake, The absconding was taken into an even more serious consideration, and Lazuli scooted closer to the back of the cave for good measure.
"You must think of yourself quite highly. When I attacked you back then I was just trying to protect my cohort. There was no guarantee that you wouldn't attack. It was only logical and yet you assume that it was on a personal level. If I wanted to destroy you then I would have gone after you, or I would have done it some other time. As far as I'm concerned you are but a Lapis lazuli that happened to be in this cave with me." Sulfur said, levitating and floating in a loop. "So, if you have a shard to pick with me then do it some other time... for now we're stuck here. I'd prefer to be comfortable. Wouldn't you?"
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’.
