Name: Pearl Facet-A52 Cut-13
Appeared Gender: Woman
Appeared Age: 25
Gemstone: a teardrop shaped pearl with a slight pink hue, with the tip pointing upward
Gemstone Location: Sternum
Faction: Crystal Gem, Formerly served under a member of Pink Diamond's court, Rhodocrosite
Corrupted: N
Appearance: Will add color soon.
Personality: Pearl is a young gem with a passion for service. Still deeply unsettled by her inability to be useful to her original owner, she has an unchecked ambition to make herself useful to others. Unfortunately, listening is a skill she is still learning, and that can lead her to give help where it isn't wanted, or to not hear all the directions she is given. Pearl doesn't have any problem suggesting plans or ideas. However, if a gem she is fond of suggests something, Pearl's instinct is to bend and agree, even when she knows the plan is terrible. In general, her mood is chipper with a pinch of irritatingly delightful.
Likes: celebratory yelling, singing loudly, the desert
Dislikes: being wet, eating, being asked to stay still
Fears: being taken back to homeworld, Agates, whips
Weapon: a spear: pale pink handle, bright pink points at either end. See Appearance for pic.
Ability: Visual Hologram, Solid Hologram, Storage
Ability 1: Visual Hologram Pearl is able to produce visible, non-solid holograms from her gem. The holograms are rendered in pink tones and are not passable for the real item in most cases. Her gem must be uncovered and have line of sight to the target location for this to work. The maximum size of her hologram in any dimension is 2 meters/yards, and she cannot project it farther than 3 meters/yards.
Ability 2: Solid Hologram Pearl can produce solid holograms. However, they must be programmed and created prior to use, and the procedure is incredibly time consuming. The holograms can take simple actions, but they are not intelligent and cannot learn. Additionally, the pologons render like an original Playstation. Solid holograms cannot be bigger than Pearl herself, and disappear if damaged in any way.
Ability 3: Storage Pearl can store one item at a time in her gem for retrieval. The maximum size for storage is 1' or 30 cm in any dimension. The item stored cannot weight more than 40 lbs / 18 kg. In order to retrieve the item, Pearl must have 10 seconds of uninterrupted concentration.
Fusions: none currently
History:Pearl was created 200 years ago as a thank you gift for a high ranking medic in Pink Diamonds court, Rhodocrosite. Pearl's owner, a trainer of medic gems, had been on a transport of other high ranking gems when the ship was attacked. Rising above and beyond the call of duty, Rhodocrosite not only battled the enemy but saved many gems from terrible damage sustained during the attack.
Rhodocrosite was a fair enough owner. However, she had no real use for a servant. Pearl attempted to be obedient but had a nasty habit of speaking out of turn when fidgety, one she could not be broken of. During a trip to earth to study potential cures for corruption, Rhodocrosite and her Pearl were attacked by a monster. Pearl was poofed, and when Rhodocrosite could not find her after hours of search, the servant was deemed shattered. A week later, Pearl reformed. Alone and unsure, she wandered until she met a group of Crystal Gems, and asked to join them. She has been a member of the gems for 50 years, having joined in 1967.
Character Arcs:
1) Serving Rhodocrosite: (1817-1964) Initially eager to serve, she quickly becomes dissilusioned. Most of her service is in inaction: standing still and being silent. As time passes, she becomes resentful of how underutilized she is and angry at herself for being unable to serve properly.
2) Left for Dead: (1964) There is a lot of crying in the desert. Then there is a lot of running for her life. Then there is a lot more crying in the desert. As she grieves, Pearl begins to imagine a new job for herself, a new service she would like to perform. There are a lot of solo song and dance numbers.
3) Finding a new Life: (1965-present) Pearl finds her way to the human city of Las Vegas and ultimately the Crystal Gems. Her initial plan of service doesn't work out, but after a few conversations with close friends she starts to realize that she can and should redefine what service means to her and others around her.
