After a month's silence, Sulfur had finally contacted Variscite on her phone. Varisicite had a great difficulty answering the human device and almost broke it, but she succeeded. Now, as the gem sat peacefully on her bench, she starred into the deep blue. A grin caressed her soft lips as she reread the ending of "Only The Best Intensions," a sci-fi novel based on a true event in Saudi Arabia. Vaguely based on a true event...
It took place in between the 1980's and the 1990's, during the time of the Gulf War. A lonely boy named Hani, which ironically means 'happy' in Arabic, seeks out to find his friends, who were lost in the turmoil. He bears harsh resentment to his father, who mistreated him as a younger child and was arrested for despicable crimes. To the boy horror, he soon starts to see parts of his father within him. The novel ends with Delete repeated word Hani hanging himself because he killed his friends upon finding them due to extreme hallucinations he received in compensation for a 'special power' he bought, which gave him the power to save his friends from the start. It could be classified as a Greek tragedy.
Variscite then gaze to the now approaching Count Sulfur.

Sulfur was not in his traditional dress. He wore a dark green coat, a leather strap with a skull emblem, A large hat, baggy leather pants, and some black boots. He held a sword in his right hand and had a hook on his left. He put one foot on a barrel, striking a pose. He waved at Variscite with his hook hand.
"Aye Vari!" He called. "There is a very strong corrupted gem on a far off island, I have rented a Ship so that we can sail there! With our crew of humans! My Pearl!"
A human lady dressed in a rather revealing pirate outfit nodded.
A human lady dressed in a Victorian dress with thick glasses nodded. She looked seasick already.
A burly bald man with an eyepatch winked and Vari and blew a kiss.
Another burly bald man with sunglasses and a bandana over his mouth grunted.
Variscite noded in kind to each of the "crew" members, including the Amethyst who's most resent action had made her uncomfortable and the Chalcedony who disturbed her by simply being called a chalcedony. Next, she turned to face five other humans. The first of them introduced himself as "No Beard" despite having a long, red beard which existed with out explanation.
"Arg, matey Variscite, these winds be blow'in hard."
The second had a hook for one hand and another hook for the remaining hand.
"I'm Hooky the pirate!"
The third had an eyepatch over one eye, and another eyepatch over the other eye.
"I'm Blindy the pirate!" He tripped on a pebble and fell on his face.
The next had two peg legs.
"And who am I you wonder? That's right. Gordon the pirate!" He tripped over his own pegs and fell down next to Blindy."
The last pirate was only a head. He had one peg leg protruding from where his neck would be that he used to bounce on.
"What'er you look'en at Greeny? Never seen a man with no body before."
Variscite did not nod at these men. She simply stared at Sulfur with an expression that said 'Why?'
Sulfur let out a hardy laugh and grabbed Variscite around the shoulders. As she seemed disturbed by the crew, Sulfur didn't care! He'd put up with worse and as a Broken Gem she would have to aswell.
"Now that's everyone... take a look at my fine ship!" Sulfur gestured to an impressively grand ship that had been painted red. With a proud wave of his arms he gestured to the ship. "I call this vessel...the Blood Vessel!"
At this Amethyst started to laugh uncontrollably. Sulfur glared at him but then looked back at his crew.
"You!" He said gesturing to the humans behind Variscite. "You are in charge of rowing the ship. I`m expecting a lot from you!"
Sulfur pointed to the pirate with just a head.
"Amethyst, you will swab the poopdeck!" This caused another uncontrollable stream of laughter. Sulfur rubbed his hand across his face in disgust. "Chalcedony! You will chart our course!" Chalcedony's strength was abused, he was given a task that even the weakest could muster.
"Peridot! You need to make us food while we work!" The two nodded and left. "And Varis, could you haul those heavy barrels full of cannonballs?"
"Hey can't I-? " Asked Chalcedony before being cut off by Sulfur.
"And pearl! You will steer the ship! "
"Th-then what are you going to do? " Pearl asked. Sulfur shot a proud smile.
"I will pose dramatically like all captains do!" He then walked to the front of the boat and got into a heroic pose. Chalcedony groaned.
"Fine by me" said the bodiless pirate as he hopped up to the ores.
Soon the other pirates followed suit. After the other gems dispersed across the ship, Variscite climbed aboard. Although heavy lifting was not the slender gem's strength, she was not about to object to Sulfer's challenge. She would not bow down to a randomly inconvenient situation.
Variscite wondered where exactly she should "haul" the barrels, yet she did not wish to admit to being dumfounded by the concept. Perhaps she should carry the barrels to the cannons, as they were full of 'cannon balls' anyway. The gem had read about cannons before, and heard the description of what they were. Apparently humans on vessels launched them at other ships. With her goal in mind, Variscite bent down without bending her back to pick up one of the barrels without injuring herself. The green gem then tightened her pelvis and put her entire body into lifting the barrel. Through tremendous strain, she succeeded.
Sulfur grinned at Varis as she lifted the barrel. It was as if he had known she would be somewhat capable of this. In truth, he had no idea that she could succeed. He gestured for her to bring the barrels below deck. Inside of the ship Chalcedony was charting their course, rather reluctantly. He brought the map to Sulfur after he had finished.
"There we go!" Sulfur said looking at the map. "This should lead us straight to that corruption!"
"Pearl! Set a course for crystal isle!" He shouted at Pearl, continuing to pose.
"Roger! " She said, with a nod.
Sulfur looked out at the sea. He thought he saw something glowing. He squinted as the sea water splashed against his face.
"Vari! Once you've dropped off those barrels return to the deck at once!"
"Yes sir!" Variscite replied, forcing down a grunting tone as the barrel swayed. The lifter positioned the barrel on top of her head, similar to how the human women of this world ballenced clay jars of water on their heads because only using their arms would not be enough to deal with the heavy weight. The warrior then shuttered under the pressure and took her first steps. She could have spent ten minutes taking the first barrel below deck, but Sulfer already had another task for her... fine.
Variscite moved quickly, even when going down the stairs. The hardy gem advanced one barrel at a time, pulling ligaments and tearing body tissue due to her unhealthy speed while preforming strenuous work. In seven minutes time, she had positioned all of the wretched barrels and was ready for her next task. She came over to Sulfur, unable to hide a few heavy, yet soft pants as her body trembled. When the exhausted female's arms lifted against her will from the extreme stress on her biceps and triceps, she quickly gathered her remaining strength to push them back down. The forced movement hurt, but it was worth it, if it meant keeping her leader from seeing her look ridiculous.
"What... huff*... is this new task I shall execute?" the exhausted gem weakly responded while interlacing her fingers to keep her arms down.
A shriek was heard that resonated around them. It was a low, guttural shriek. It's source was a creature, and a large one at that. It emerged, a huge head the looked like some sort of blob that had two large eyes and a gaping mouth. The mouth had multiple teeth and a gem inside. It was a corruption! Just then multiple tentacles started to snake across the ship, cracking the planks. Sulfur grunted.
"I wanted battle assistance." Sulfur said with a proud smirk. Chalcedony groaned, once again envying Variscite. Sulfur charged at three tentacles that were at work on the ship. The cannons fired at the beast but had little effect. Three of it's tentacles suddenly reached toward Variscite. The beast seemed to intend to throw her into the water. They reached and curled around her. If successful, they would throw her off of the ship.
Variscite was struck by the size of the creature. However, it was not much different from other corrupted gems she had faced in this bazaar region of this world. Variscite leapt into the air, avoiding the denser parts of the tentacles from crushing her feet, but was still ensnared by them at a higher point. The massive tentacles wrapped around the captured gem's slender frame and squeezed so hard that the captive thought she would poof for sure. Unbeknownst to Variscite, this pressurized feeling remained her subconscious of a terrible experience in her past. The confused gem could not think of any explanation for why she screamed, except that the pain she felt now may be different from any other kinds of discomfort she had previously undergone: an unusual reaction for an unusual situation.
Variscite grimaced and drew out her hidden blades. Because the squid-like beast had failed to grab its catch before she summoned her weapons, the two short swords extended right into its fleshy tentacles, which had curled around them. The corrupted gem shrieked and loosened it grip enough for Variscite to cut away at its appendages some more and free herself.
Sulfur hacked away at multiple tentacles at once, while casually walking across the deck. The beast was clearly no match for the gems, however powerful. His eyes widened as a tentacle shot toward him. With a sidestep he evaded the tentacle. He then realized too late that the tentacle wasn't aimed at him, yet at the crow's nest. It grabbed the main mast and snapped it's base. The rod fell and nearly collided with Sulfur. He then noticed that the ship was experiencing a bit of a leak.
"Status report sir! " Amethyst yelled, saluting. "The creature has rendered us completely vulnerable and is aiming to jab it's long tentacle into us from behind! "
Sulfur groaned, disappointed with Amethyst's lack of modesty in such a dangerous situation.
Variscite, seeing Sulfur's display, figured that her blades would be better for the situation at hand and delivered repeated strikes to the beast's tentacles, pausing every eight strokes and then following them up by another eight-stroke combo immediately afterward. Variscite was still thinking about her bloodcurdling screech she had let forth earlier. Why was she unable to hold back such an outburst? Unacceptable.
Variscite grappled onto an over arching tentacle and then stood on it. The fighter ran on the tentacle, cutting it repeatedly as she spun her body in ballerina-like twirls. When she neared the actual body of the monster, it tried to defend itself by using closer arms to off balance Variscite. However, the warrior simply leapt from one tentacle to the other, cutting them repeatedly while doing so, all the while, avoiding falling into the water below.
Sulfur fought off tentacles with all twelve of his blades at once. He leapt about, grunting as he dug into the tentacles. He started to feel fatigued as he continued, but then noticed Variscite's work. She had either weakened or successfully severed many of it's tentacles. Then he noticed that the tentacles seemed to be slowly regenerating. Still, he was sure that he wouldn't have been able to deal with it alone. He was impressed by Variscite's speed.
"Excellent work Vari... always let out your passion in screams... passion is a weapon!" Sulfur said, apparently he misunderstood her scream. "Cover for me!"
He then dove downward at the creature trying to stab it's gem with his blades. Some tentacles were almost completely reformed, he had to leave that to her.
Variscite's heart sank as the giant squid began regenerating its wounded appendages. She was confused that Sulfur though her scream was only a valve to let out her passion for battle.
As the corruption came closer, Variscite closed her eyes and jumped. Too many tentacles had come at her at once, and since she could not follow them with her eyes for the time being, the talented gem closed her eyes to only focus on the sound of the tentacles tearing through the wind. In this way, Variscite predicted where the monster would strike and dodged a few attacks based on sound before she opened her eyes again and stuck her sword in another tentacle, bisecting it as she let gravity take her down further. At the end the tentacle, Variscite wondered what would happen if she completely cut it off. With several hard strikes, she depleted one of the monster's limbs. Following her most recent action, the tactful gem once more grappled from tentacle to tentacle, this time slicing off appendages when she could.
Sulfur's blades resummoned around the beast's gem. They darted at it again and again, moving quickly like a drill. The creature however could apparently shapeshift to an extent. It moved it's gem out of the way several times, yet it's body was pierced repeatedly by the swords. Sulfur leapt into the air and was prepared to deal a finishing blow when a tentacle grabbed his waist. Apparently one had gotten past Variscite. Sulfur switched his grip on the blade in his left hand, holding it backwards. He spun and severed the tentacle like a saw.
He then brought all of his blades to himself and dropped on the beast. All of the swords split up and stabbed at different areas. This made it impossible for the creature to avoid his attack. It poofed and Sulfur eagerly snatched it's gem. He swung his blade at the gem, treading water, yet only cracked it. His emotions were preventing him from dealing the blow. He grunted and swam toward the ship. He climbed using the blades in his hands and dropped onto the deck.
Handing the gem to Variscite he grinned.
"I think you deserve this shatter Vari!" Sulfur said with a thumbs up, hiding the true reason he had spared it.
As soon as she saw that Sulfur was about to poof the corruption, Variscite jumped off of the tentacle matter which was enveloped in a bright light, about to fade away. As she flipped through the air and landed on the boat, the creature had completely diminished. She watched as Sulfur cracked the gem and gave it to her to be shattered. What is this?
Variscite nodded respectfully and proceeded to shatter the gem. She herself did not care for shattering other gems. After all, she could never beat them again if she did that. However, Sulfur had always seemed to be a fanatic about the work. Variscite looked at Sulfur with a passionate, respectful look, yet the stare also held just a little bit of doubt. Her master would sometimes toss her a gem, but this time somehow felt, different. Had something changed? Had the one she admired for his strength somehow grown... "soft."

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun.
