In the vast and endless deserts of earth, only a few creatures are hardy enough to survive. Camels store water and fat in their humps for later use; any plants who survived the early stages of life have thick thorns and deep roots; even insects build their homes deep underground so as to protect themselves from the harsh desert heat. But what about gems? Gems have their intuition, as well as the resolve to stay alive.
In the case of Prasiolite - a tall, destructive, quartz-like gem under Yellow Diamond’s court - there was nothing she could do upon crash landing in the barren landscape other than lay low and hope that no-one from Homeworld had followed her. After years of hiding, however, Prasiolite had had enough and eventually decided to venture away from her impromptu base fashioned from a half-sunk roaming eye ship in search of the rebellion she had heard rumors of.
Upon leaving her stolen ship, Prasiolite wandered the desert hoping to catch a glimpse or even an inkling of any helpful rebel gems. Every so often, she’d trap sand in one of her light green bubbles and leave it on the ground in a line behind her; hoping that a gem would be able to follow them to wherever she was.
Howlite wandered the desert in search of new enemies or allies. He had lost most of his friends and it had been weeks since he'd had a hostile gem to cut into. Either way he needed to find someone. Anyone. He looked around until he noticed a bubble with sand in it. A trail! The hunt began. He started to track the orbs to their original location. He finally saw a figure in the distance. He switched on his Tracker Vision. The signature was that of a prasiolite gem. Demolition gems. They were always fun. Time to see if she was a friend or an enemy. He marched over to her with a smile. "Hi there! You lost? Name's Howlite." He extended a hand to her.
Prasiolite was startled a little by Howlite’s presence; it had been a while since she’d seen a gem, and hadn’t expected to meet anyone this soon. Prasiolite had seen Howlites before, albeit rarely, but never had she seen a defective one. After believing that Homeworld had been after her for so long, Prasiolite was incredibly cautious of Howlite; especially since she understood that looks can be deceiving. With a stern face, Prasiolite turned to face Howlite but did not take his hand out of fear that it may be some sort of trick. Prasiolite looked Howlite up and down, examining his strange clothing and taking note of his smaller stature, before saying: "I'm not lost, I'm just alone. That stuff doesn't matter, anyway. What does matter is what side you're on. Homeworld, or Rebellion?" in a serious manner.
Sulfur decided that it was bright enough outside to leave his camp. The fire from the night had died. He then started to walk, leaving his camp behind. Sometimes he would spend days losing himself in the desert, just to be alone. He would then find his way out after many days, it just required him to move in one direction long enough. He walked for supposedly hours until noon. He then observed a trail of green orbs. On closer notice, they were bubbles with sand in them. Sulfur wanted to be alone, and if someone else was trying to lose themselves in the desert making a trail was a poor decision.
He followed the trail until he heard voices from over a sand dune. He stepped behind a rock and peered out at the gems. One was a quartz, probably under yellow diamond. The other was a gem he knew all too well, Howlite. He watched carefully to see how this would go down. If the Quartz tried to destroy him Sulfur could either watch or come to his aid. If the quartz became his ally, then Sulfur would simply leave them be. He didn't know this quartz, and it is never wise to attack a quartz whose abilities are a mystery.
Howlite chuckled. "Even better. I'm a Broken Gem. Now tell me... Who are you with?" He did a Tracker scan of the area. He suddenly picked up Sulfur's signature. He cursed loudly. Then he shouted. "I know you're here Boss! You can't hide from me remember? Get over here right now!" He turned to the Quartz. "Not lost huh? Perhaps I could aid you in your task? After all I am a gem of many talents. I'm sure I'd be of some use to you." He looked back at Sulfur's signature. Why? Why did he have to be here? Sulfur always was quick to label Howlite as weak. Perhaps if Howlite were to take him down then he'd get respect from his brother. Perhaps...
"The broken gems? I've never even heard of them." Prasiolite thought. Still distrusting of Howlite, Prasiolite thought carefully about what she would say next. She was prepared to answer his question, but then realised she didn't know the answer herself. "Who am I with?" She said to herself quietly. After turning to face Hoplite, she said. "I guess...I'm not with anyone. Blue diamond probably wants me shattered, and I have no idea if the rebellion I'm looking for even exists. If you want to help me, just show me that they're still here."
She then turned around, her back now facing Howlite. Prasiolite realised that she may have got carried away and shared too much information with the gem. She looks across the desert, searching for the gem Howlite seemed to be shouting at. Initially, she failed to see his head peering out from behind a stack of rocks, however upon further inspection she spotted a small head, and came to the conclusion that it must be another gem. Now caring even less about what she's saying, Prasiolite shouted "WHAT ABOUT YOU? WOULDN'T HAPPEN TO KNOW IF THE REBELLION IS STILL ACTIVE WOULD YOU?" in the direction of Sulphur.
A loud scoff was heard. The gem walked around the rock with a sour look on his face. He was slender and his face had an almost petit look about it. If he didn't have such a hateful look in his eyes he might almost be described as cute. He had long green mottled hair that hung a few inches short of his shoulders. As he walked he slouched a bit, clearly this was linked to his emotions and not a fashion he normally walked in.
He wore a green tracksuit top with a strap that stretched diagonally from his right shoulder to his left hip. He wore shorts and tennis shoes. His gem was on his left arm, just below the shoulder.
"Trying to be, you filth." Sulfur hissed, giving Howlite a sneer. "I don't know why you call yourself a Broken Gem... you don't act like one. You're soft."
Sulfur then turned to the Quartz. His expression changed. It didn't seem positive, but was rather an emotionless stare, a neutral expression.
"Did you simply just arrive on earth? Well the rebellion is quite active." Sulfur said, waving a hand as he spoke, seeming calmer just by shifting his gaze.
Howlite made a growling sound. Like a predatory animal. "I AM a Broken Gem. And I'm NOT soft. I do my job just fine. I fight. I-" he saw the Quartz. "Do other things for you. I just don't kill. Why is this so hard for you to grasp? I'm not soft if my only rules are not to kill and to not break the innocent or corrupted. I just let them strike first." He turned to the Quartz. "Sorry. Family troubles. But yes, the rebellion is very much alive. I could take them to you if you'd like." He turned to Sulfur. "Unless of course you think you're able to go to the temple without setting off every alarm system in there? Then by all means you take her. They trust me.... Well one does."
Once again, Prasiolite was taken aback by the gems standing near her. After realising that they're taking about shattering gems - both corrupted and uncorrupted - she feared for her safety. Nevertheless, she continued to talk to the gems, since they obviously knew more about earth than she did. She moved backwards a little out of fear of sulphur and Howlite, and turned to face both of them. Ignoring their 'family troubles' which were far less important to her, she opened her mouth and, startled, asked Sulphur: "You...shatter other gems?! That's...I...Why? --Wait, scratch that, you probably have motives as to why, but…shattering?”
She then turns to face Howlite, the most 'normal' of the two from what she's seen so far. "You don't shatter others, but you work for someone that does. Can I ask why? Why you work for him I mean. If the rebels trust you, then join them. Thats what I plan on doing. I have nowhere else left to go."
"You are a traitorous wretch. The crystal gems would never accept someone like you... Simply because that one... insignificant Spinel is soft toward you doesn't mean that the others will accept you. You've called me cruel... yet you betrayed them, you betrayed me... and you even betrayed your love interest! How would any gem, even one of the rebels be dull enough to trust you!? You've lucky that White Spinel is a fool because she is all you will have left!" He snapped. "I would have accepted you for not shattering gems, if you at least were a friend, but you aren't even that... you simply want me to be someone I'm not. You call yourself a friend... and you've betrayed everyone who cares about you... I hope you die alone... that is what you deserve..."
Sulfur's face darkened. His expression returned to normal as he looked at the Quartz.
"I would recommend living as a loner. The rebels are not in a good situation right now."
Howlite snapped at him, "I didn't betray you! I didn't agree with you but I'm still your Knight and I'm still your brother. Sure we got our problems but that doesn't mean I'm leaving you guys. You're all my family. You get so worried that I've left you. I'm still here. Just ease up on me and you'll have nothing to fear. Look Boss, I know I've been hard on you lately. Truth is I don't mean any of it. I'm just lashing out because of the mental strain I've been under lately. My mind is trying to go 2 different directions. But I've managed to somewhat keep together. However there are side effects. That's the uh, mood swings you've been seeing. I'm sorry. I meant none of those things I said. I'm just in a lot of pain and needed to take it out on somebody. So please... Can you find it in yourself to forgive me? Let's work together and help this gem."
"Look..." Prasiolite begins after moving backwards slightly so as to be able to face both gems. Her voice now takes on a softer tone, and although she hasn't forgotten about Sulphur's crimes, she decides to take the voice of reason in the argument as she would've loved someone to help her when she was in this situation back on Homeworld.
"...you two obviously have your problems, there's no doubt about that, but you look like you've both been through a lot together. Don't throw away the everything you have over some petty rules or rituals." Prasiolite then sighs, as she's reminded of Homeworld and how she did exactly what she's advising Sulphur and Howlite not to do themselves. "I did that once, and look where I am now; alone, isolated and stuck on some dumb, disposable old planet looking for a rebellion that is in a pretty bad way right now..."
Prasiolite then sits on the warm sand, her feet half buried as she looks up towards the sky, thinking about things that she hasn't properly had a chance to reflect on yet. "I used to think that life was easy, and as long as I followed my orders to the best of my ability, I would be ok. But, by some twisted fate, following instructions is the very thing that made my life not ok." She then sighs and speaks again, however this time her voice seems much clearer and brighter. "Uh, sorry for rambling on. Look, the moral of the story is not to take things for granted. Sure, there may be a multitude of reasons for you to hate each other, but existence is short, y'know. If you really do share a great bond, then why sacrifice it over this? Just patch things up and continue on like nothing happened."
After listening to both of the gems Sulfur sighed and crossed his arms. He looked at the floor as he spoke.
"Howlite... you don't know how much I want to forgive you. How much I wish what you had done never happened. But lions aren't used in war because they can't be trusted. I can't trust you Howlite, it doesn't matter how much I enjoy your company, you will never be loyal or trustworthy in my eyes. You have no reason to be. You weren't accepting me for who I am, but in the interest of our bond I will overlook that..."
Sulfur cleared his throat.
"I think it's only fair for me to attach some conditions here." Sulfur began. "The first condition is that you apologize for what you said about Morion, and that if you in the future want to shatter him you will not tell me. You can't control your desires, but you can control your voice. My second is that you understand that I am a changing gem. I will not become this friend that you want overnight. You have to understand that you are the first friend I have ever truly had. No matter how close we become... don't expect trust. I forgive you, but it would be foolish to trust you."
Howlite nodded and sighed. "Yeah Boss I get it. I apologise for what I said about Morion. Honestly the only reason I get so hostile about him is because... He told you to poof me. He told you to and you did. Still that didn't give me the right to say those things and I apologise. And I get that you're changing. It was selfish of me to try and force you to be someone you are not so quickly. I'm sorry. And I know... That I'm not able to be trusted. I get it. I am not exactly the most sane or stable person. I probably won't be trustworthy until I can find a way to control all of my personalities instead of juggling them. Thank you for forgiving me." He ran over to Sulfur and gave him a bear hug. "I love you Boss."
"Love?" Prasiolite asks, smiling at the fact that what she had said was able to help Sulphur and howlite patch things up, even if it's only slightly. She'd never witnessed 'love' before, and found it incredibly strange. In fact, there are still a lot of questions Prasiolite has about the earth; spending so much time hidden in the desert means she's yet to experience a lot about the planet. Of them all, however, the affection that Sulphur and Howlite seem to have for each other is the most puzzling. She's never witnessed anything even remotely similar to 'love', and yet something about it was entrancing. "Is this just how earth works? We rid ourselves of everything we've ever known and 'love'? That's dumb, still something about it seems so great; I'd do anything to let go of Homeworld and the diamonds."

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.

*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
