While Para and Ruby spoke, Lapis focused on a stained window across the aisle. She zoned out and tried to discern whether the stain was on the outside of the window or the inside, and where the stain could have possibly come from in either scenario. She then noticed the talking had died down, which she took as an indication that something was said to her. She snapped out of it and noticed Ruby looking at her. Embarrassed at having absolutely no idea what she said, she replied with a barely audible "Y-yes" and hurried to turn her attention to Para. She figured the best way to save some face would be to quickly change the subject.
She had to quickly think of something to ask her.
"Can you make a... shoes?"
She took another moment to salvage that sentence. "Er... what I mean is... how does your power work? You made things like the arcade coins and the map, but what else can you make? Clothing? What about something like wings?"

Lapis' question was... odd. Para was about to answer her before she cleared up the confusion somewhat, "Ah, well you see dear it is a fairly simple process. Our gem cores work as a source of energy of sorts, but double as a tool to project our physical forms. I was designed, along with a dozen or so others, to be able to use that ability externally. That is to say, I can turn my energy into hard-light much like my form or a weapon." She took a brief pause to think how to explain the next part in the simplest way, "Much like creating my form, my gems can create hard-light. The difference is that these creations can exist without constant energy, they are more matter than light. But in the same way they are limited by physical restraints, so while I could make a pair of wings they would serve only a decorative purpose."
She glanced outside the window near her to watch the terrain passing by, "Originally I was made for the purpose of making decorations actually, but upon reaching Earth I learned to make more... 'practical' items. I find my current work much more fulfilling than the dull jobs I held previously."
Ruby nodded at that. Clearly that explanation was good enough for her, perhaps because she already had her own assumptions. But, assuming Lapis was also happy with that answer, Ruby would sit back in her bench seat and close her eyes, probably thinking.
--- TIMESKIP ---
Four hours later, the three were still on the bus. They'd been through many a state, and had entered Jersey no more than an hour previous. Ruby had fallen asleep twice, once right after the conversation had ended, and once about thirty minutes ago. She was still asleep. But between those two sleeps, she woke up and told Lapis and Para excitedly about the place she had been teleported to in her sleep (this time, it was the bottom of the ocean. Or at least, she thought it was. She'd never seen the bottom of the ocean.) She and Lapis might talk for some time about that, before she passed back out. It turns out hard thinking made her tired.
This was a good enough explanation for Lapis, and she nodded. She had no further questions on the matter, for fear that they'd probably tread into somewhere she didn't understand. While Ruby drifted off, Lapis sat quietly and seemed to zone out in thought again.
Throughout the bus ride, Lapis would stay relatively quiet. She'd seem to space out for long periods of her time, in which her eyes literally appeared to become glassy and she'd lose her sense of presence. In those moments when Ruby woke up to talk to her, Lapis would happily listen but seemed confused with Ruby's "teleporting." She still didn't understand that. At one point, she briefly stood up and wandered the bus. She tried to strike up a conversation with the bus driver, who didn't seem very engaging. Ultimately, she spent most of the time up until this timeskip simply sitting in her seat and doing nothing.

Para had spent the next few hours intently watching outside the window, observing the human world that flew by. Her travels never covered this much land, at least not recently, and it was facinating to see in person what the human territories were like. For the most part they were surprisingly empty, unlike Homeworld, which made her wonder if that was intentional or not. It was entirely possible their species hadn't evolved to a point of being able to use their entire surface as well, perhaps that would be an advancement she would live to see in the coming centuries.
Her attention was drawn for a moment to Ruby's conversation on being 'teleported', going as far as to start a conversation the second time she woke up, "Tell me dear, you mentioned about being transported somewhere else? If you wouldn't mind I'd like to know more."
Ruby, having just woken up, gave a stretch of her arms and looked back at Para. "Oh, ok! I think it might just be something that happens to certain gems so - I understand if this sounds weird."
She clears her throat, before continuing, "Sometimes, when I close my eyes and don't think about anything for a long time, especially at night or after a long day at work, I get sort of... transported, or warped, to some new place! The only difference between warping and what happens to me is that, when that sort of tele... warping... happens, I usually end up arriving without using any sort of warp pad. I don't even remember how I got there! The only thing that's weird is that Lapis has never seen me actually go anywhere! And sometimes Lapis is there too, so... it's really confusing. She never remembers seeing me warp, and she definitely doesn't remember being where I warp to."
She looked over at Para. "Does any of that make sense?"
(( Doofy said they'll skip their turn, so you can go again. ))

She watched and listened without blinking, observing in a silent emotionless trance. When Ruby had finished she finally spoke up, "That reminds me of a human phenomenon that I have yet been able to document and test on. Perhaps someday I can probe further into this ritual of yours and learn its properties and uses."
"Actually, perhaps you could keep a journal if you wouldn't mind. A sort of data log of these experiences, so that I may examine them in future. If you can find the time of course. Speaking of time... how much farther does this transportation vehicle have to go before we arrive at our destination? These human vehicles seem awfully slow." As much as she was enjoying the new experience, Para wasn't one for sitting idle for too long. Even with a conversation she found it hard not to fidget with her hands or make tiny shapes out of hard-light.
Ruby held a finger to her chin. "The trip to Jersey took me a long time on my own. So it's gotta be faster. In fact, I thought I saw a sign for-"
There was a little bit of rumbling, and then the bus skidded to a rough stop, probably causing Ruby to tumble out of her seat. What are seatbelts, anyway. In front, the bus driver threw open the doors and sprinted out of the bus, headed for the forest. Ruby stared at that. "I guess we're here-" She started, before everything started to spin, literally.
The entire bus was jerked to the right, slamming into the barrier on the edge of the highway, and an enormous hand tore into the side of it - the opposite side to what they were standing on. A huge, very obviously corrupted, red gem creature was there, standing 15 feet tall, and staring hungrily in at them. It was almost primate in shape, but its corrupted gems indicated the gem type quite literally. Rubies.
Ruby herself simply stared at the creature with fear, not prepared for whatever was happening, mouth agape.
Lapis let out a sharp yelp when the bus is struck. She curled into a ball to wait out the sudden spin, but was thrown out of her seat when the bus collided with the barrier. On her hands and knees when the creature ripped open the bus, she stared up at it with wide, startled eyes, and she instinctively scrambled away before her brain had time to process what was really happening. She ran towards an opening in the bus and yelled "IT'S CORRUPTED." as if that already weren't obvious. She summoned her wings once, which slipped off her arms in her panic, then tried again with more focus and took off into the sky to escape.
Then she remembered neither of the others could fly.
Ruby and Para would likely see her wheel around in the sky and glide back towards the creature at a downward angle. The end of one her wings became a solid chunk of ice, and she used this like a flail to whack the corrupted gem in the back of the head as she passed it. The creature likely reeled forward from the hit, and turned back to swat at her. She flapped hard to remain in the air after making her pass, and circled around to make another one. This entire maneuver wasn't expertly choreographed at all, but surprisingly it did seem practiced. Lapis must've been busy...

(So sorry for the MAJOR delay)
Para watched the man leave in a hurry, "Odd, I did not think the pilot usually left the vehicle before the passengers when-" She was cut off by the rather jarring experience of their bus coming under siege. It was this same event that threw her from a seated position onto the ground and a few feet towards the front. Once things stopped moving she sat back up on the floor, only to be surprised by the sudden removal of the side of the bus.
Lapis' warning almost didn't register in her head, things sort of went silent as the horror of the situation almost overtook her. It was Lapis' attack however that managed to snap her out of it and spring her to action.
Crossing the distance back to her seat Para retrieved her dufflebag, rummaging around until she found a small hand-held disk, "Ruby, we need to help Lapis!" If something happened to Lapis it'd be them next after all...
Pressing the center of the disk, an electric crackling could be heard. Once activated Para threw the device at the creature, hoping to strike and stun the creature for a moment as a rather powerful shock would be administered if it stuck. She yelled out, "I don't have a lot of these, so let's not take all day dears!"
The disk that Para threw managed to stick to the creature, who, already distracted by Lapis, was beginning to be stunned by the device. In it's initial convulsions, it threw a massive hand up in the air near Lapis, as if in one final effort to smack her out of the air before it was disabled for a time.
In the meantime, Ruby pushed herself up and stared at the creature, glancing at Para, before summoning her knuckledusters. "Alright - I mean, right, of course!" Then, albeit with some fear, she jumped down towards the base of the creature and began trying to land hits on it. They didn't seem to be full-power hits, and Ruby mostly kept her eye on Lapis instead of where she was punching, as well as the partially-gleaming corrupted ruby gems. They seemed to scare her the most. This meant her hits really didn't have very much effect.
While Ruby and Para prepared to stun and attack the corrupted gem, Lapis continued to hold the creature's attention. With every attempt to grab or swat at Lapis, she somehow managed to dodge it at the last moment, all the while trying to circle closer and closer. In one moment, the creature tried to reach up and snatch Lapis while she was up in its face. She yelped and pulled back to a sudden halt in order to dodge, then slapped it in the face again with that ice-tipped tendril of water. Again, it wasn't the most graceful maneuver, and she fell out of the sky when she suddenly lost a wing in the process of turning it into an attack, but she managed to catch herself before actually hitting the ground, and began circling it again.
After this incident, she began to fly with more confidence. Around the time Para and Ruby were about to throw the disk, Lapis would have been seen swooping around the creature with much more ease. She even began to forget some of the seriousness of the situation, laughing as she swiftly slipped past every outstretched hand, almost as if this had become a game. When she saw another moment to make an attack, she went for it.
The sudden convulsion shot the creature's hand up faster than she expected. Still with that big confident grin on her face, she had no time to react before the massive hand came down and spiked her directly into the pavement. The only sound that came from her during this was the solid thud of a body flatly slamming into the road much harder than any body ever should. She lifted her head up and slowly looked around for Para and Ruby with an unfocused, wide-eyed expression of confusion, almost as if she had difficulty finding them. Upon eventually spotting them not too far away, she looked at them as if she were trying to ask what had happened to her, but was unable to speak. Then she poofed.

Para used the time to sort out her bag, trying to find something to help out the fight. She was rather distracted keeping on eye on the fight as well, noting Ruby's half-hearted combat performance. She was about to say something when a sickening thud was heard followed by the terrifying sight of Lapis poofed before them.
A quick assessment of the battle made it clear that this going to be a lost fight very soon if something wasn't done. Finally giving her full attention to Ruby's situation it became rather apparent what the problem was, noticing the similar complexion of Ruby and the beast they were currently against.
She needed to encourage Ruby, and fast, but how? Then it clicked, "Ruby! If Lapis is going to survive this you need to give one hundred and ten percent!" She stopped herself from mentioning that was mathematically impossible, but it was something she had heard often used in a situation like this.
Acting quickly Para reached into her bag and pulled out a fist-sized device with a twenty-sided metal case. She flipped it around to reveal a small button on one side before pressing it and launching it towards the fallen gem of Lapis. After a few seconds upon reaching the gem the device flung open, the metal case opening up like a bubble but with metal plates at every corner. "That won't stand up to any real attacks, so give that monster all you have!"
Ruby's attention was sheared away from the corrupted creature as she watched Lapis hit the ground. She turned fully towards her, as if to run over towards her to help, before she poofed. Sounds, like the roaring of the creature as it struggled against it's new electrical bonds, were muffled and incomprehensible to Ruby for a very short time. She was deaf. Blind. Numb. It was like a bomb had gone off in her mind, leaving her shell shocked for a couple seconds.
Until Para called out her name. She was back in the present, her thoughts and eyes refocusing with a sharp intake of breath as the device Para threw shielded Lapis' gem. She turned back towards the creature, who was slowly breaking out and reaching towards Ruby, the gem it thought was the most threatening. Ruby steadied herself and ground her teeth, anger very clearly flooding her body as her knuckledusters went from ruby red to bright-orange with the added heat. As one monstrous hand managed to form into a fist and slam down towards her, Ruby reared back and punched both spiked fists directly upwards into the fist, just barely stopping the arm. "RRRRRRRRRRRAAAGH!" Before she ripped each of her arms in opposite directions, essentially tearing the creature's fist in half with her flames and newfound strength. It roared in agony as Ruby ran over and began attempting to sear and cut the Gem's entire arm off with as many punches as possible, further up it's arm.

Already Para was rushing off towards Lapis' shielded gem with her bag slung across her shoulder. She was barely halfway there when she stopped to witness Ruby combat the corrupted gem, doing much better now than she was earlier. A lot better actually... Rubies were never really scary gems, even to a gem unable to really fight like Para, but in that moment she was very glad that this particular ruby was on her side.
Snapping back to her senses Para closed the distance between her and Lapis' gem, falling to a crouch next to the shield covering it. After a few systematic presses on different corners of the shield it fell apart into useless scrap. Para took the now undefended gem and stashed it in her bag, "I've got her, she is safe!"
Melody: how are you doing? Are you going to make a character in here?

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
Orginal Opening Plot Here Thread That Changed Everything
Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
