Obsidian blushed a bit at his compliment, but laughed, trying to pretend that it didn't make her embarrassed.
"Nah! The diamonds don't want to date me or anything, and even if they did, I doubt they'd enjoy a gem with a shovel. That's what makes me not a good Obsidian. Nothing spells stealth like a shovel..." Her voice quieted down after she finished speaking. "I'm not perfect man... I don't think you've met many other Obsidi-"
Then the kiss came, Obsidian's eyes went wide. For a few moments she stared into his eyes and didn't move. Her eyelids lowered a bit after some time and a smile crept onto her face. "I guess you really do find something interesting about me. You aren't bad for a defect yourself. I've never met a gem who could kiss like that, or a gem that could kiss at all to be fair."
"Ah well it's just something that comes natural. No different than hunting or torture."
He quickly covered his mouth. Why did he just say that?!?!? This girl would probably reject him now. Damn it. It was going so well. He desperately tries to change the subject.
"So one question. Your only defect is that you believe you can't be stealthy with a shovel?"
"Then you're not defective at all! I've snuck up on people with bigger and bulkier things. I could teach you if you'd like. I've been doing stealth missions for the last thousand years and never once got caught. And that's with this."
He summoned his rifle.
"You got any clue how loud this is? I'll teach you how to sneak with that shovel. I promise you."
"So I'm dating a perfect Obsidian. What're the odds?"
Obsidian was about to say something in response to the 'torture and hunting' thing, but his next statement caused her eyes to go wide. She suddenly seemed very interested. An enthusiastic grin appeared on her face. She tried to reduce it to a smirk, but couldn't contain herself.
"Cool... well I guess it wouldn't hurt to give that a try." She said with a grin. "I guess if you need stealth you learn from the best. I doubt there's anything I can teach you though, I'm sure I`ll think of something."
She made a mischievous smirk and looked Howlite in the eyes.
"I never thought you'd be into torture, but I guess that's kind of interesting... Do you do like... interrogative torture? Or just torture for fun. If it's only for interrogation then you aren't really a bad guy. I don't judge."
Howlite suddenly appeared nervous. All the bravado and charm drained from his body at her last question. He sighed. As he spoke he stared down at the street below.
"I don't want there to be secrets between us so I'll be honest with you. My defect... It's not just my color. The Diamonds wanted a Howlite. Instead they got a demon. They didn't get their way and I was punished for it. When I popped out of the ground all that time ago, my mind was split in half. One side is the charming man you see right now. The other half is a monster. I never want you to see that half. I'd much rather you see the quirky charmer than the psychopathic demon who terrorizes loyals."
He felt like he was about to cry. There was no way she'd take him now.
"Well I`ll just have to stay away from the monster half." She said after a long pause. "Nobody is good all around... but some people are worth just hanging out with anyway."
Obsidian stood and took a few steps from the edge. She didn't seem to be leaving, but more getting a better view of the city. Her curly hair blew as a gust of cold wind washed over them. She collected her thoughts and then started to speak.
"Heck... most guys wouldn't have told me that... they would have just let me find out one day." Obsidian smiled. "You think that's a defect... that's natural... to have a bad side."
"Well if you're serious about sticking around you might as well know what to watch out for. You see, I wasn't born with this pretty face. This is rather like a mask. Here's how I was born."
His face shifted so that his eyes were black and his teeth were pointed.
"This is what happens when the monster comes out."
He shifted back to normal.
"I'm surprised you're still here to be honest. Past experience has taught me that once people see the monster they stop seeing the man behind it. It's a little different. I never thought I'd get this far with you. I figured the best I could hope for was a one night stand. But now I think we can actually make this work. That is if you don't mind a little crazy in your life."
Obsidian's eyes widened when his face changed, but she soon became calm, yet looked a bit disappointed.
"Howlite... I want you to leave it like that. The one with the teeth and stuff." Obsidian said looking into his eyes. "You see, If I'm gonna like a guy, I want to like him for what he's really like, not for what he pretends to be like. Cause' that guy he's hiding is gonna come out at some time in forever. So I might as well see it every day. You can pretend around anyone else, but I want to see you for who you really are. So... stop wearing that mask kay? I want to know the real you better than your act."
Howlite's face quickly switched back and he was in shock.
"No one's ever said that to me.... Thank you."
He relaxed a little and looked at the stars.
"You know I could take you there one day. I just gotta get my ship up and running and we could explore the Galaxy together. Maybe farther. Though we should wait till the war's over so we don't explode while in space."
He looked back to her.
"I'm going to make you a promise. Everytime I'm with you, I'm gonna bring you a bouquet of lavenders. I'll never miss one. And I'll pick them myself. Consider it a reminder of how serious I am about this. You're the first person I've met who wasn't rejected by the real me. Shoot I was 20 years old when I put on the mask. I can't remember the last person who was ok with it."

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
