Chip looked at the gem, whose name he didn't know. He listened to what she had to say about it all and... he had to smile. Yes, this gem wasn't Pink Diamond, but she was important gem in service of Pink Diamond. And she thought that he might one day serve his Diamond. It really filled him with determination and sense of peace.
"Thanks for saying that. You have no idea what that means to me. Now I can look forward to the day I finally meet my Diamond with less fear and more excitement."
He was still a wee bit afraid of that day, but considerably less then before.
"But I guess now I should help you to find... whatever you need to find..."
His voice was cracking a little, but he was determined not to fail now.
It warmed her heart to hear Chip's confession, but internally, she remained conflicted. Was she giving this gem the wrong idea about the Diamonds? Or would it ultimately be for the better that he came forward and formally pledged his allegiance to the imperial forces? It was hard to say, but she was soon reminded of the reason she'd come to the city in the first place. With no confirmation from her pearl, it began to worry her that it would take Headquarters much longer than anticipated to send them help.
"Oh! Right," She gave a timid smile back to Chip, and decided that since he had come clean, she might as well do the same,"Ah, well, you see...my pearl and I were dispatched recently for an investigation on criminal-gem activity...but ah, our vessel seems to have stalled up in the time that it took for me to finish that investigation. Now, I'm looking for gravity engine components. I'm not an engineer, nothing of the sort, but it would speed up the process of repair if I could have those components ready by the time a real ship technician arrives,"
She hadn't expected to bump into a friendly gem at all, much less one who would offer to help her. This was turning out to be a much more productive endeavor than she'd previously anticipated. "For saving me, and offering so much of your time...I suppose I should introduce myself to you," She threw up a diamond salute,"Padparadscha facet 10C8A cut 8QE, court of law affiliate,"

For some reason Chip just had to smirk.
"I never saw a ship, that came to Earth and didn't crush, or got broken, or something similar. Almost like there is something in the atmosphere, that is harmful to gem tech. I saw several crashed ships... old colony ships mostly... and I'll be blunt here... I know NOTHING about gem tech. So I wouldn't be able to tell apart this gravity engine components from a spatula... "
Finally he learned about who is he even talking to.
"Oh... so you're kinda royalty right? I mean Padparadscha is... like a Sapphire? I met a Sapphire, he was all fancy... uhm... I probably shouldn't just chat to you like this, right? Wouldn't it get me shattered on Homeworld or something?"
He was a quite unsure right now.
"Also I would tell you my facet and cut but I don't know it... never learned it, and data from Kindergarten are corrupted beyond recovery..."
The sapphire brought her hand to her chin and began to tap her lips in contemplation. "That is... incredibly strange," She noted, mostly to herself, as it was clear that Chip had already drawn that conclusion. She had noticed an abnormally high amount of crashes in her recent dispatches, and it dawned on her that she'd been across quite a few near-misses herself. Perhaps there was something literally in the air causing this, as Chip suggested. Not only that, but the gems who had been bound to Earth through circumstances such as these tended to be somewhat...strange...themselves. She counted herself lucky. "Well...I'm not entirely sure myself, but my pearl has some technical knowledge. Using the diagnostic tech I have at my disposal, we'll be able to determine what parts are needed,"
As Chip moved on with his own questions, she found herself a little taken aback. Though she was proud of her position, her recent capers on the planet's surface had smeared her dignity on many occasions. She'd almost grown use to the impudence of gems here, but she didn't particularly consider this Fire Opal to be in that category of gems. To give him some more reassurance, she smiled,"Ah, I've been programmed with a tendency to be more personable than some other aristocratic strains. It's useful to be more open in my line of work, aside I'm glad for the company...Earth can be..." Terrifying. Confusing. Lonesome. "...challenging, to say the least,"
She gave a nod,"I understand. I wish I could provide some insight for you, but I'm no kindergartener either,"

"Well either we have some really really bad pilots, or defective engines... which seems quite unlikely. Or there must be something... when dozens ships just crashed there has to be some reason, right?"
Chip shrugged. He had no idea where the truth was, but this was highly suspicious. Then again if there was something Morion would find it a looong time ago. He was dabbling in so many areas... and Chip even might hear this suspicion from Morion once. He wasn't completely sure... "Well that's nice to hear, because my programming is... not there. So I'm mostly self-taught. And... no offence, but if you ventured alone in human city you might take Earth too lightly. Humans are mostly reasonable, but there are corrupted gems all over the place. I fought like... well... no idea, but dozens?"
He tried to think about how many bubbled gems he had, but the number was quite high...
It was amusing to hear Chip's other speculations-- but gem pilots were the best of the best, and so were their engineers. The sapphire was inclined to blame the planet itself, considering how many abnormalities it seemed to subject the gemkind empire to, the rebellion among the most conspicuous of these deviations. "You're right. It's uncanny, really," She mused,"I can't imagine what it could be...though I'm sure Homeworld's researchers will be able to crack the case,"
Padparadscha prickled up a bit after being told she was taking things lightly. After all, she'd seen her fair share of danger here. Corrupted gems seemed to be running rampant, as well as dangerous fugitives, and she'd faced them herself. However, she gave a quick evaluation of her current situation, and wondered if she had been doing that after all. It seemed that dispatch after dispatch had gone awry in some way-- had it been because of her underestimation of...everything on Earth? The realization was like a slap to the face. She stared at Chip for a moment, unsure of how to even reply now that her conception of things had been upended. She'd even opted to keep her pearl in the safety of the ship, yet traipsed on out into this alien world alone. "Y-you're right, again," She managed, her eyes flickered away from Chip,"I suppose it is rather strange to see a sapphire casually without her entourage, though a certain amount of boldness is a part of my programming as well. I-- I don't like to sit around waiting when I could be taking action,"
Was that a good excuse? Probably not. Maybe it was that Earth-air that was getting to her head. The sapphire just hoped that she was doing a good job of hiding her embarrassment at having been called out by this peculiar gem. The notion of them being self taught was strange to her, but Chip the Fire Opal seemed to know what he was talking about.

"I guess if they set their minds to it, they might solve it... too late for those dozens of ships... but better late then never, I guess..."
He respected, that this Sapphire was brave and trying to fix things on her own. He was kinda similar in this. But the main difference was, that he had some major firepower (literally) and if things got really bad for some reason he had wings for really quick getaway.
"I really respect that you're doing things instead of sitting on your... uhm... ship, but perhaps you should get some sort of guard. I don't want to question your abilities of course, but... let's say I spent some time as a jewellery and it isn't exactly my happiest thought..."
Though she did suspect that her abilities were, in fact, being questioned, she didn't let the notion rankle her too much. She'd always had to rely on other gems, much to her own chagrin, but it was the nature of her existence. The sapphire supposed that this defender was simply doing and saying what was within his own nature. The prospect of becoming jewelry was terrifying, but she found herself curious as to how this had happened, and why. Though, asking such things would probably bring up unpleasant memories for Chip, so she suppressed the line of questioning her mind was already formulating.
"Truthfully, I hadn't expected my ship to break down. In light of what you've said, perhaps I should be more wary in the future," She sighed, and looked down at her communications device once again. "I haven't allowed myself to take on a full time retinue, but I occasionally hire for my more dangerous missions," It seemed as if she could do most of her assignments with her own grit and her trusted pearl, but since the rebellion, she'd considered employing such an entourage. Though, for this particular venture, it was already too late to put in such a request. She looked back up to Chip,"If you're still willing, to have an escort for the remainder of this endeavor would be greatly appreciated,"

Chip had no knowledge of how to behave to royalty. He learned from humans... one could say he was gem of the street. But, in his own way, he was doing his best. He was glad, that this Sapphire understood that.
"I have this feeling that Earth is... unpredictable. Especially for gems, who came from Homeworld. From what I learned Corruption is something, that is not natural on Homeworld... yet here hundreds, if not thousands gems went feral... growing into terrible, terrible monsters."
He was an elite warrior gem, a little rusty, but still powerful, yet there were monsters, who could match his power, or even surpass it.
"Since you're an emissary from my Diamond I don't think I can do otherwise, then help you, if you will have me."
Mention of corruption sent a chill down her spine. Each time she'd been faced with one had been a close call. Everywhere she'd encountered them had been far away from any kind of civilization, but what Chip said about Earth being unpredictable was utterly true in her experience. She considered the possibility that they could be anywhere on Earths surface, despite the containment efforts.
"As far as I know, corruption is localized to Earth," She said, a bit of unease in her tone as she tried to diffuse her memories of the creatures,"It's...it's tragic isn't it? A gem researcher once told me...that sometimes, they still hold onto some of what once made them...gems," She stared off, a solemn look in her eyes as she remembered the encounter she'd had with that emerald technician. It seemed so long ago now, yet she still remembered the horror she felt when she laid eyes on the creatures she saw there. "B-but I wont trouble you with that talk," She cleared her throat and gave a smile, "Lets get to business, shall we?"
The sapphire reached for her holoscreen, and flipped open her map. "Through satellite research I've been able to pin point these locations as mechanics, but from the sounds of things, it may be unlikely that they would have gem tech. This Bloodstone you mentioned though, surely they may be able to part with something? Perhaps they'd do a trade?"

"It's almost like Earth itself is defending against us, gems... falling ships, corruption... rebellions. Strange thoughts, huh? Have you ever heard about planet, that is defending itself?"
Then again it could be some kind of weapon, released by particularly crazy rebel? Or even test field for some Homeworld scientist? Or it could be natural. Life on Earth was capable of evolving, so some sort of bacteria or virus could evolve to kill gems? It was far beyond his little head.
"As I said, nobody except Bloodstone have any gem tech in Empire city. Or at least none worth talking about. Gemstone is... reasonable. But he is extremely powerful, probably more then me so I would be careful when talking to him. I think he might be willing to trade. Or at least sent us to the right direction. But he doesn't owe me anything... in fact I owe him one so... It's the only option I can think of, if you don't want to scavenge on crashed ships... those are infested by corrupted monsters to the roof..."
The sapphire froze up a bit at Chip's next words, her shoulders tensed. "A certain...stalwart gem once said something similar to me," A prickle tinged her tone. Memories of that occasion left her very conflicted, but she tried to focus on the present. The idea seemed almost ludicrous to her, but all the same, gems much more experienced than her had said these things multiple times, and a part of her wondered if what these gems had told her was true. Soldiers weren't made for rumination, but they did have good instincts. "This planet is quite the fighter, it seems, but the Diamonds will prevail, as they always do." On that, her tone was absolute.
Her attention shifted back to the matter at hand, with the clearing of her throat. "If he is reasonable, then a civil talk may be more productive than seeking out possibly dire situations. You seem like you could handle a few corruptions, but if at all possible, I'd prefer to avoid confrontation of that manner," She loathed to think that she might have to lay eyes on another corruption some time soon. On top of that, the prospect of sending out yet another gem to take hits for her was something she found more and more unsavory each time she allowed herself to take on a retinue of any kind. For the pink court sapphire, it was horrid to see. She shook away the thought, and continued to speak after the momentary pause. "Perhaps you could lead the way?"

Chip shrugged unconvincingly. He cared for Earth, it was his home. He saw how Earth should look after the conquest is gone and it terrified him. But he believed, that his Diamond will save Earth somehow. It might have been naive, but he idealised Pink Diamond in his mind. She will solve all those problems, as soon as she arrive on Earth. With that thought Chip abandoned this topic.
"I think he is, he helped me a lot before. I considered him a friend. And don't worry about corrupted gems, the clever ones fear me, the stupid ones are not a problem..."
Chip was a little cocky here, but it wasn't completely undeserved. Thanks to him all corrupted gems avoided Empire city
"I can lead the way... but the M-tower is the highest building in the entire city... you can see it from every place in this city... you can't really miss it."
He said and started walking slowly towards the building.
For a moment, she analyzed the fire opal's posture, the air about him seemed to change when she brought up the Diamonds. But, she didn't dwell on it. She had very little to go off of before he transitioned into a stature of entire confidence as he spoke. She returned him a smirk, reassured by the ease that his declaration came forth with. As little of a match that these corruptions may pose to him, the sapphire still felt a bit queasy at the prospect of seeing one of those monsters.
She glanced up to the tower that Chip had pointed to earlier. It was big, and she felt it was only fitting for a gemkind structure to be the most dominating over the earthling urban landscape. Though she probably could've navigated there with the help of her map, it felt a bit strange for her to do so. She'd never met nor heard of this Bloodstone, though from the sounds of things he may have been a gem she could get a long with. Her expectations of Earth were constantly thwarted, so she opted to stay on her toes. She trailed alongside Chip, and kept a keen awareness of her surroundings. Though the present area was well lit, the sky was turning a muddy, dark indigo. "Thank you, for doing this. I didn't think I was going to meet an ally here," She spoke, somewhat to fill the air to prevent silence. She found herself curious about Chip. Though he seemed to be something of an open book, she wondered if he would be irked by some more personal conversation,"Have you been here, in Empire City I mean, for long?"

This was strange, sure, Morion was a big animal at Homeworld, but he was affiliated with Blue court. This was the first important gem, that served Pink Diamond, his Diamond. And she could use his help... it was strange. What a coincidence, or was it? Well, this was a chance to prove himself! And he was quite good in blasting monsters...
"I was created to serve my Diamond. My Diamond is not here... yet. But you are her envoy, it's the least I can do, isn't it?"
He said. It was really nice to help.
"Well... I spent quite some time in this city. Morion took me in as his apprentice, I helped him keep this city safe and to get him the gem tech he needed to fix a crashed colony ship. It was the first time I could call home..."
He opened himself a little.
"Feel free to ask anything you want."
He felt like Sapphire wanted to ask more, but for some reason didn't.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
