NAME: Red Beryl Facet-1S2P Mutation-XXX1
APPEARED GENDER: Female
APPEARED AGE: 21
GEMSTONE: Red Beryl, Hexagonal - concave cut on each end
GEMSTONE LOCATION: Through the neck horizontally.
FACTION: Homeworld Gems
CORRUPTED: N
APPEARANCE: Voluptuous but toned gymnastically in body shape and standing at around 5 feet 10 inches (so around the presumed height of Pearl). Light reddish pink skin, marbled by veins and bubbles of stark white underneath the skin. Dark red, shoulder length completely straight hair; right half of her bangs cut in a straight-line exactly above eye level, left half pulled back behind her ear. Pink/Purple eyes with black rings radiating out. Wears a short white toga (reminiscent of Rome, for reference).
Personality:
Calm, cool and collected on the surface; meaning she normally speaks in soft, neutral tones and adopts blank/dead expressions unless trying to manipulate the receivers emotions. Underneath however she is a roiling sea of internalized (and even partially self-directed) hate due to the years of being in captivity followed by years of military training to harness said aggression.
Completely dedicated to the given mission, pursues the end goal with single-minded intensity. This is due to her love of the hierarchical government which commands her, so she doesn't believe in personal feelings (which influences her distaste for humans/crystal gems). This also means that she is incredibly deferential to superior gems, exhibiting absolute respect for authority and how things are "meant to be".
Eager to please her diamond, given that this would be her first mission outside of training it makes sense that she would be incredibly nervous and trying her best to create a good first impression.
LIKES:
- Time alone to think, organizing information on a target is the best way to know them.
- Yellow Diamond and to a lesser extent the other diamonds, almost in a god-like fashion.
- Others willing to push aside feelings and instinct in exchange for logical thought.
- Anyone with a history of proper servitude.
- The information nexus that collects knowledge from around the Gem Empire.
- Symmetry and cleanliness (people who lack significant ownership over their lives generally turn to controlling the small things about it)
- Human Religion (Sees it as an acknowledgement that they want to be controlled and given purpose by a higher power I.e. The Diamonds).
DIS-LIKES:
- Gems that do things for personal gain or advancement.
- Deserters (rebellion included)
- Scientists
- Gems Eating Food (Not because it's disgusting, but because it wastes time).
HATES/FEARS:
- Red Beryl's
- Being disposed of.
- Failing at a mission or not performing up to standard.
WEAPON: Pneumatic Gauntlets and Gorget. Able to summon a Gorget to protect her neck, attached to her gauntlets by two tubes on either-side. These bring pressurized air to her weapons allowing the large Beryl cylinders to be propelled into the gauntlet in order to produce specific reverberations, it also allows for quick acrobatic maneuvers and dodges by providing un-natural momentum (3 pressurized air charges, 1 recharging every two posts; or at Role Playing Masters discretion).
ABILITY 1: Firing the Hammer (1 Charge). The Red Beryl cylinders are propelled at extreme speed into the front of the gauntlets, causing above average damage to whatever the knuckles are pressed against. Due to the fact that she's more lithe than strong this is a necessary skill to get any damage done. Shockwave (2 Charges) By using Firing the Hammer on each hand while pressed together is able to cause an explosive reverberation in a 5 to 10-foot radius, causing knockback (at 5 feet) and disorientation (at up to 10). This takes a lot out of her, but is necessary if she needs to make a hasty escape.
ABILITY 2: Evade! (1 Charge). The pressurized air is released from one side of the gorget, allowing her to push herself in a direction; even in mid-air. This is used to evade attacks because Red Beryl's body isn't built for taking tons of damage, instead preferring to dodge out of returning attacks using acrobatics.
History:
Red Beryl gems are of the scientist class, what many would refer to as Gemeticist's (per the gem roles in society labeling them scientists). Under direct supervision of the Diamond Authority they slave away to create new generations of gems to adapt to either a surplus of deficit of resources. For this reason Red Beryl's are born with an innate knowledge of the structure and use of all gem types, instead of weapons they summon calipers and other tools used to measure/study/judge others. So, when Facet-1S2P came out as a mutation she was nearly tossed down the nearest disposal chute; only saved at the last second by another Red Beryl scientist who was intrigued enough by possible testing to step in.
As she lay strapped to a gurney, suspended just inches away from a cold, bottomless pit the gems behind her whispered away. A Golden Beryl "Did you see her size? I heard mistakes came out small, but she's too large to be a scientist" a Peridot hissing back "And that weapon, no way is that used to measure anything but a gem's breaking point" however, the adjunct Red Beryl's voice cut through the noise "Then she's the perfect candidate for our tools, we don't need to measure things we already know". A grinning dark red face comes around the side of the bed to stare.
Facet-1S2P spent the next hundred years playing Guinea Pig to another of her kind, stripped of all meaning and drive. Days spent being poked and prodded, judged and tested in an attempt to find a use for her; there were many times where she was back above the chute, only to be dragged back for more questions and tests. Her emotions took on two shapes, Anger: for Red Beryl's and other gems that had stood by, and Fear: of being found useless and being unceremoniously disposed of. However, any outward sign of these emotions were heavily punished and so they slowly became internalized (almost unconscious to a degree) and so like lava hardening on the surface an emotionless shell developed hiding the roiling, directionless hate.
It was finally Yellow Diamond who found a use for such reckless hatred, years before the rebellion was even an inkling in anyone's mind the idea of a weapon used to strike out against other gems was born. As the leader of the military Yellow Diamond was intrigued by a Red Beryl's mutation towards more physical matters, leading her to procure Facet-1S2P from the facility in which she had been kept for her entire life. Yellow Diamonds plan was to train 1S2P into being a tailor-made weapon; while others might be hunting dogs, Red Beryl would be the Roomba/Zamboni of a war (slow, but inevitably getting the job done).
For Red Beryl, this would be a turning point in her life, freed from captivity by a benevolent (at least in her eyes) ruler by the functioning of a hierarchical society. She would dedicate herself to the training and Yellow Diamond's commands.
CHARACTER ARCS:
- The first mission can go one of two ways, successfully will most likely just reinforce existing ideas of superiority and planning. However, if things go too terribly wrong it will probably result in a slow deterioration of her sense of reason, becoming emotionally unstable and desperate to put things back together.
- After coming into a Kindergarten, she becomes increasingly uncomfortable learning about how many gems are actually destroyed by order of The Diamond Authority on the grounds that they did not fit perfectly within their class.
- Delving into ancient records of Diamond class material she learns that the facility in which she spent her developmental years was not just attached to the Kindergarten, but specifically made to test weaponizable gems. At this point I feel like she would most likely fall into a state of denial, but no plans to have her break from the Authority.
