Sulfur glanced at her as she eased the trembling of his arm. He didn't reveal much, but he noted her abilities.
"Everything probably would seem pointless to you. When you have at least some allies probably life just seems too...easy?" Sulfur suggested. "Well certainly things in my life don't seem pointless. I advise you to consider what you want to do with your life. Life is precious, and only obtained through chance. Don't squander it. You can't decide your physical strength, but you can decide your value. It may be harsh to say, but someone with no ambition has no value. If you want to mean something then you must have ambition."
Sulfur then pointed at the pie.
"At least eat that. I will poof you if you don't." He said with a smile.

Amber listened, looking up and out the window as Sulfur talked. Ambition...
Perhaps that was what she needed, but she couldn't be certain. She was still devoted to her cause, but everything seemed monochrome in comparison to her first awakening days on Earth.
She was about to ask 'how does one renew ambition,' but she decided to let it be for now. Her food was getting cold. Sulfur's comment about poofing her did make her smile a little bit though. "Oh no, I wouldn't want that," she looked at him and stuck out her tongue. "It's not like I was poofed for some thousands of years already or anything." She picked up her fork and scooped out a bite of the pie. It was odd getting back into this maneuver. It was not often that she ate food -unless with her friend. Yet despite the distant timely intervals of consumption, the things humans made always seemed to amaze her. The flavors always seem to blend so well together that it almost made Amber wish that Gems did indeed need sustenance.
The pie was no exception.
Her expression eased once again and she almost seemed relaxed, "'Tis good... thank you."
But then the words that Sulfur spoke spurred her, and she looked back over her shoulder to the scenery outside the windows. "Is there much Corrupted activity in this city? Or beneath it? Or anywhere near here?" Amber looked back at Sulfur with a frown.
Sulfur almost mentioned how he too had been poofed for thousands of years, in a horrible environment that one could label as torture, but decided not to. Instead he started to wash the plate she had eaten the pie off of. He nodded to her as she said that it was good. Of course it was! He had spent years practicing... well a year, but he had been taught well. He was about to dismiss her when she suddenly called back at him.
"What?" Sulfur turned toward her raising an eyebrow. "No, this is empire city, a homeworld stronghold. You will likely not find a single corruption within here. If you are actively hunting these creatures I could tell you places to go, but telling you would be murder, for the reason I know of them is because they are highly dangerous. So, ask me if you like."
Post by Amber (Evol) on Sept 14, 2017 19:19:20 GMT
"Okay. Well, I would like to ask you." She smiled at him, seeming... brighter, in a way, than before. "It's what I do, Sir. The sickness may keep you alive, but there's many more who suffer. You can hide, you can survive, you can be strong in your own way. I'll hide, too, because unlike you I can't shatter armies -nothing about me would permit it. So I'll be strong in my own way -however short lived the happiness would be, and however hard it is to re-motivate myself to be so selfless." She looked away from a moment, rubbing her neck. "It's been a hopeless cause so far but I might as well ask, right?" Amber slid out of the seat and stood beside the table, "So if you have knowledge about these places, I must know." So I can lie to myself that I'm helpful and not just a waste of tree sap, were the unspoken words.
"And you can... help, if you'd like. If you're not busy here later. Would be uh... good practice to build... uh... up more team...teamwork skills..." Truth is, she didn't want to be alone again, but she didn't want to appear needy and clingy to a Gem she just met. She felt some form of security from and towards Sulfur, though nothing that she could describe easily. Perhaps she was blind to the faults and his past events? Either way, the invitation was extended, and she stood there unknowingly holding a breath she didn't need.
Sulfur raised an eyebrow at her question. He placed the washed plate in the cupboard and leaned on the counter. His full attention directed to her. He was giving her full attention, yet he had a glazed look in his eyes. It was impossible to tell if he cared, somewhat cared, or didn't care at all.
After she finished speaking Sulfur paused. Silence was in the room for at least a minute, but it felt like several. Eventually Sulfur stood. He lulled back his head and started laughing.
"How comical! You want to risk your life for a false cause!" Suddenly he stopped laughing and looked at her with a grave stare. "I suggested that you fight for a cause! Not make one up! Don't just destroy yourself fighting those things! If you really want to fight them you can't go alone, you need to have some allies that could actually give you aid! It's suicide to go alone!"
Sulfur paused and thought over his own words. He groaned and slammed his hands down on the table. His eyes narrowed as he stared into hers.
"Alright then... I will go with you. I cannot promise that you will become strong, or even that you will feel fulfilled, but I have free time on my hands and I like to destroy those pitiful creatures." He folded his arms. "You seem to care for them, the one condition you must meet to go on these missions with me is to sacrifice half of the gems that we capture to me. I will probably be destroying a majority of them, yet half of the total you can use however you want. As for the remaining half... "
Sulfur leaned closer.
"I`ll break them in front of your eyes... they are nothing but pitiful beasts in my eyes." Sulfur said coldly. "Do we have a deal?"

Amber narrowed her eyes. This cause was what she had been doing for a little over a year; perhaps she had not mentioned that. Perhaps he could not tell that she attempted to re-motivate herself from the words he had previously spoken. She needed something....
When silence followed his laughter, she tried to hide the frown she felt. It was alright; she was use to it. If this Sulfur refused, then it would be nothing new. She would simply keeping attending the areas she knew and hunt from there. Perhaps she could request some extra terrain maps or check out old human resources -any new place with potential threat is valuable information. She was prepared to take back her offer and wish Sulfur a good day when he finally replied.
For a moment, all Amber could do was stand in silence, meeting his stare with her own. Half the gems they find would be saved -if being locked behind a Gem destabilizing plasma wall and being poked and prodded with tools is saving, at least; but the other half would be destroyed...? What if they only find one? Pitiful beasts! They use to be conscious Gems, just like them! But.. they're also dangerous... and Amber has more than enough. The Glass City can't always be constantly stocked. She seemed to have two heavy options on her hands: find these new Gem locations at the cost lives, or to reject the deal and never help at all. If one may fall, there could always be more to save. She could attend those areas when Sulfur would not be present -saving more than the amount he could destroy in this mission. But was she willing to look Death in the eyes as he reaped the very reason why she was created in the first place? Her chest felt tight and her face flushed from the fear and stress of the decision.
What would the others think?
What would her Diamond do...?
Amber sighed, "....Fine." The knowledge and opportunity was too crucial to waste.
Sulfur smiled he ran his right hand through his hair, brushing it once again out of his face.
"It makes sense that saving half of these creatures would be better than none." He suggested. "I`ll take you to an area where these creatures live. Probably these ones will be weaker, but in great numbers. By all means, don't go there alone."
He then stood up straight and shook his head.
"Well you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink... Your decision and your death are yours alone. Neither will come yet though. We will leave in three days." He said. "Now consider this thought... how are the corruptions even worth it? You may have a chance to save them, or you might be delusional, you might be transporting dangerous and contaminating beasts around, not making the world a safer place...."
Sulfur turned with a grin.
"On a different note, do you want a coffee for the road?"
(So for the three days thing I'm thinking we could just jumpcut those, I don't actually think we should wait three days)
Post by Amber (Evol) on Sept 18, 2017 16:34:45 GMT
Amber puffed out her chest, holding her head up high with a frown, "We'll just see in the end, then. It may all be for nothing, but we wouldn't know until we get there. The cause may be for nothing after all, but the cause is still what counts as we continue to contribute knowledge of what could or could not be. Gems advancements wouldn't have made it this far otherwise. I want to help them. They're... like us. Different from everyone else, disassociated with society and outcasted. Obviously, for different reasons, but we don't know what's going on here and neither do they!" There was a soft look in her eyes, and her posture slacked. "They're just trying to survive too...."
When the offer for coffee was made, the tension building up in Amber faded, and she eased back into a smile. "Sure. Why not?"
Amber stood back, hugging her arm with a wary frown. She appeared at the meeting place a little early, too afraid of annoying Sulfur with a late arrival -especially for a mission so serious. She was very curious of this new location and reminded herself to take mental notes of its coordinates upon arriving there. Occasionally she glanced around, hoping to see the friend that may or may not be a friend.
The location that Sulfur had directed her to was accessible through a warp pad. It was a wasteland with many craters in it's rocky ground. It looked almost as if it were the surface of the moon, only with the occasional dead tree. It was extremely hot and if gems could sweat, they would be pouring. Many caves were in the area, it seemed a perfect place for monsters to hide.
As time passed it seemed like Sulfur would be late, but the beam came down from the warp pad a few moments before the time he had called her to arrive, carrying Sulfur in it. He walked off of the warp pad and approached her. "Alright... the beasts here are rare, but when they come they come in large numbers... it may take a while before we see one."
He started walking forward and motioned for her to follow him.
"We should strike up a conversation... the best way to get them to come out is by making noise." Sulfur folded his arms as he walked and turned toward Amber. "What do you think of human music?"
Post by Amber (Evol) on Sept 21, 2017 18:12:20 GMT
Amber glanced about rarely, not letting her guard down even as Sulfur attempted to pick up conversation. She looked at him for a moment, then returned her eyes to the horizon. "It's good, I think. So many different genres and different ways of expressing oneself -and anyone can do it, not just Chrysocollas... but then again, humans don't have the caste-specific society that we do. I have a friend who's very much into disco, so I learned some about music and dance from her." She smiled softly, looking away to her left, "Of course, I don't really have many chances to hear such pleasures from vocals and instruments. Almost always too busy....
"What about you?" She looked back at Sulfur then, tilting her head curiously, her gaze somewhat warm. "Do you take many interests in human activities, including music?"
Sulfur grinned a bit, but didn't face in her direction. He put his hands in the pockets of his hoodie as he walked. "I used to spend a lot of time researching human culture... and by researching I mean...enjoying. I love human food, so I learned to make it. I loved music, and so I learned to dance, to sing, and to play it. I've written songs before..." He glanced toward Amber briefly. "You see I don't like humans particularly... to me they are equal to a tree. They don't matter to me much... they don't deserve credit for what they have created. Their lifespans are too pitifully short that they need to build on their ancestor's work. Inherited work is not work... So I don't find it ironic that I find humans unremarkable, but view their creations as wondrous. I used to enjoy it a lot before..."
His voice trailed off and he looked away.
"We should be to a good spot soon... " He mumbled.

Amber listened carefully, nodding along. She frowned slightly when he trailed off, sensing that there was more. However, she didn't want to push him. They were but strangers -perhaps acquaintances, and anything more Amber was afraid to be hopeful for. ...Yet she was hopeful.
"When I was poofed, an unconscious projection of myself was sent out," she began. "It mingled among the humans, experiencing things I physically haven't, living in this world but not living at the very same time -all without heart nor mind. It created memories, and I have them now. Information; vocabulary, wars, customs, names, places and faces that don't even matter. Through the many years as Earth had been shaped I can confidently say I also don't have a high opinion of humans. They destroy their planet endlessly and their own foolish actions will be their demise. However, I can't help but admire them in the same point that you had made that made you despise them. They don't live for very long, and that's their drive. Gems and humans, just like any other life out there, all have the endgame in common: expand the work that their ancestors had created. If we hadn't expanded on the work that originated in the ancient traditions of our origins, then neither you nor I would be here. It is by expanding the old works that we grow into the civilizations and dominant races that we are. Humans are wasteful. Yet they create beautiful things from expansion. Where would your music be, Sulfur, without expanding on the idea that one individual had years ago to combine vocalization with instrumental sounds? You may be in hiding, fighting for survival, and I may be fighting for something near impossible, but we're both expanding our experiences, our work, and the work of our origins as we are ideas of theirs." There was a moment of silence, then there was a soft sound escaping her lips: a soft and small giggle, "I guess I can call ya a 'real piece of work' then!" Amber offered him a smile.
When he mumbled, she quieted down -half to hear him, and half to register what he said. Her smile faded and she glanced around warily, "What kind of Corrupteds dwell here?"
He was smirking slightly, as he listened to her talk, as he kind of found it interesting that she was trying to relate to him although he knew how different they were. Suddenly however he brought up something that he hadn't thought of. His smirk faded and his expression lost all of it's emotion.
"Well...that would explain why I am so hardworking. I don't age like humans...but I've been at risk like humans. I will undoubtedly live a short life...and that has driven me to experience as much as I can... I suppose I am...somewhat relatable to a human..." Sulfur seemed disturbed for a while but then started chuckling. "How foolish! I am nothing like those pathetic worms!"
He then turned toward her, with a slight smile. "Well the most common types are-" Suddenly a medium sized dark green blob hurled from a cave and lunged toward him. He pulled two blades from his gem and charged at the blob. He darted through it and came out the other side. The blob's inner fluids spilled out, as well as a gem. Sulfur scooped it up and tossed it to Amber. "Watermelon tourmalines..."

Amber tilted her head, a small smile ghosting her lips, amused at Sulfur's correction. "No," she said softly, shaking her head slowly and looking down at the ground. "Guess not."
She jumped though when the Corrupted suddenly appeared. Caught off guard, she stumbled a bit, but quickly had summoned her bow and arrow. However, any movement she could have made could not have been, for Sulfur had beat her to it. When he tossed the Gem to her, she caught it and examined it. The coloration was beautiful, but the fact that the Gem was now Corrupted made it weigh heavy in her hand. "I see. Thank you." She concentrated, trying to form a bubble around the Gem to skadoosh it back to the Glass City. It took her quite a while to learn that trick. She looked back at Sulfur, "You said they come in large numbers... it won't be long before we see more, right?"
"No...not long at all." Sulfur said with a smirk as at least six more of the things lunged at him at once. He waved his right hand and five swords appeared in the air before him. They crossed and formed a large shield-like object. He moved it about in the air and blocked the strikes of the corruptions. He darted about slicing through the creatures happily. As their fluid spilled out he seemed to slide on it, like he was ice skating. This allowed him to move quicker and turn faster. However, when had to be more aware of the enemy attacks his own strikes were increasingly more brief. Often not even finishing off the beasts. "Be ready! Soon the chief will come..." He said with a smirk.
He did reach two of them. He sliced up the gem of the first one he attacked, doing it calmly as if he didn't even know he had just killed a creature. The other he let fall. It didn't shatter. It seemed as if Sulfur could fight these things even if a group of a hundred came at once. His movements were very planned and precise as he ducked and dodged around the monsters, but he was only watching those attacking him. He didn't notice the other watermelon tourmaline that slid over toward Amber. It gurgled, and charged!
