Suddenly she bit her lip, blushing. She looked left, then right. "Why yes! I am... Pear-...l...Facet....." she didn't know. Was this Pearl's gem cracked..? She certainly didn't appear to be-- Unless there was internal cracking, but... How could a weak gem like a Pearl survive a crash, and yet her master shatter..? Did a murder occur here..? Is the Pearl playing dumb..? So many possibilities were present, so many outcomes, so many different thoughts to be processed. And yet, her face seemed very genuine despite all of the possible deceit. But more interesting than all of it, was the perfect, seamless circles of sand and glass shards.. Were these planted..? What was going on here...? "I can't.. Remember."
Her lips pulled into a line and she looked down at the charred sand as she thought about the implications of this. The sapphire's senses told her that this pearl had been entirely genuine, but her senses had been tricked before. She opened up her holoscreen again and looked at the photo evidence she'd taken, then watched her video overview of the scene. Then, she retraced her steps, back into the ship and glanced about. Her slim finger tapped her lips, her brow furrowed.
She'd seen many crash sites in her time on Earth. It had been suggested to her in the past that Earth's atmosphere itself could be what was swatting ships from the sky left and right. But this one seemed strange to her, there was something off about the whole debacle but she couldn't quite place her finger on it. Then, a beep alerted her to the fact that her diagnostic run had been completed. At first, she gave it only a quick glance-- but the strange numbers made her glare at it a bit harder.
"A crash?" She mused aloud as she stepped out of the ruined vehicle, then she looked back up to Melo,"The residues were hard to read, but my field tools are giving me some strange numbers. It seems to suggest that this ship's hull didn't come into contact with the upper atmosphere on its own, before it hit the ground. But, it must be wrong..."
She stood still and unmoving like a statue. She watched the Sapphire's movements curiously. She seemed almost emotionless at the current point, too much to think about, too little thoughts to think. When prompted with the Sapphire's speech, Pearl gazed only a bit more attentively. "It did not come into contact with the upper atmosphere on it's own before it hit the ground? But how is that possible, your clarity..?" Melo Pearl responded with a confused tone, tilting her head and raising an eyebrow. Her voice seemed worried, and yet calm and soft. What was this Pearl hiding, if anything? She was so unreadable, Sapphire's powers would often work, but how could they work on a Gem who could very likely be completely out of information? A gem who has had her memory wiped? It was a dilemma to be sure.
"To be utterly honest, I'm not sure," She rubbed her chin, swaying from side to side as she tried to wrap her head around the strange data set she was seeing. The sapphire peered back to the pearl, giving her a bit of a side eye as she considered the possibilities. "I'm sure my tools were just upgraded, and tuned up by a well-tenured technician. It's hard to believe that the reading is wrong. Yet, here this ship is, it must've been wrong." Again, Padparadscha circled the crash and thought about the shattered gem she'd seen. As gruesome as it was, she wondered why the other gem had been so horribly shattered, yet the pearl was unscathed but for her lack of memory. It didn't look like damage from an impact. The thought struck her like a bullet, and she looked back at Melo Pearl with narrowed eyes.
She was positive that Melo wasn't lying, yet the sapphire found herself suspicious,"It's hard to imagine that a cargo ship would have simply dropped the remains of a crash on the beach like this," She stopped pacing around the ruined vehicle and walked up to the pearl, scrutinizing her more carefully. "It's almost as if this isn't a crash,"
She nervously observed the Sapphire as she paced around the scene. Curiously, she listened closely to every word which her superior spoke with a close, careful attention. When approached so closely, so intimidatingly by the Sapphire, and what? With such an obtuse yet indirect accusation, the Pearl felt as if her heart was sinking inside her light composed figure. She anxiously played with the fingers of her left hand, wiggling them about and having them grab each other. Melo Pearl felt the disapproval of a higher-up, the distrust and dissatisfaction of the Sapphire. It was like having a needle poked through her weak, fragile Pearl body. She had dealt with countless gems which had disrespected and talked down to her before-- But this, this was different.
This time, Pearl felt trapped and endangered while the last words of the Sapphire's communication escaped their lips. All that the Pearl could muster no was a desperate whine of pure fear "I didn't do it..."
"Of course not," She uttered, trying to soften her tone despite the befuddled expression on her face. How could a pearl possibly cause this? Yet, the fear on Melo's face made Padparadscha even more confused. What was she afraid of? Was it simply her nature as a pearl pushing this reaction? Then, she remembered the contentious nature of this planet. Anything could happen here, at any moment, to any gem. It was terrifying for the sapphire. But it was also true, and she knew that gems of all types joined the rebellion. It was hard not to dwell on the pearl's reaction to the rebel threat that Padpara had brought up.
The pattern in which the other gem had been shattered was also peculiar. Something was very wrong here. She looked Melo up and down, closely watching her nervous ticks. "Pearl, I'm going to have to take this data, and my evidence report back to base. I'd like you to accompany me," She said, some of that sternness coming back into her voice. Her ship was parked not far from here, but the sapphire was getting the feeling that she would have to act quickly if she wanted to get to the truth of this matter.
She seemed to be shivering nervous. As the Sapphire directed Pearl to accompany her, a gentle blush flowed over her cheeks, she felt flattered in a way. She kindly smiled and nodded, bowing at the noble Padparadscha "Yes, your grand Clarity. I-I will accompany you back to the... The..-- Destination." And then, so bold and gentle, so sweet, the Pearl offered her hand to the glimmering Sapphire, a gesture denoting Melo's admiration of the Padparadscha's calm and noble manners. The blush was still present along her gentle, soft Pearl skin. This was certainly a taboo, and debatably disrespectful gesture for the Pearl to make, yet, she was clearly not mentally perfect in her state at the moment.
( I don't wanna rush that part, since meeting one of her old masters is a BIG deal, it'll happen sooner than later, just not yet )
She was caught off guard by the pearl's reaction-- after all, she would be taking this pearl to face the managers of the base, and perhaps some interrogation. Though the gesture was odd to her, Padparadscha had grown accustomed to strange encounters here on Earth, and she supposed it wasn't the most peculiar thing she'd seen today. The pearl's choice of words seemed careful, though she supposed it was typical for a pearl to have care. She wasn't sure how to respond, but decided that she didn't want this gem to be in any more distress than she already was.
"Well, that's good to hear," She said, a bit cautious in her tone as her eyes flickered to the pearl's outstretched hand. She put out her own hand to meet the pearl's, and gave her a breezy smile, hoping to reassure the gem. "My ship is just over this way, we'll get you back into the swing of things as soon as possible," With that, she turned, and began to lead the way toward the cove that the ship had been hidden in.
"(The... Swing of things..?)" she wondered to herself before nodding and following the Sapphire over the soft sand, stepping onto the harder ground covered in grass with her sandals, and finally, reaching the spot where Paddy's ship was situated. She awaited Paddy to progress, holding the tall Sapphire's hand the entire time. Deep down, the Pearl was torn. Torn between being alive, and being obedient.. She knew that whatever the Sapphire had in store, it was not good, and she had to get out of there fast. Melo Pearl knew she was a goner, and she was afraid. But yet, she had to do this, for Padparadscha, but also for herself. For her own self gain.. To know who she was.. Was it really worth the cost of death..?
Was death the toll that needed to be paid for some answers? Every single mineral, particle of her spherical being, every porcelain finish, shattered into bits of dust, showered into a depository to be dismissed and forgotten... Forever. Melo Pearl would live and die in the same time... Was this a new life..? DID she kill that gem...? Suddenly, as the fear overwhelmed her, Pearl couldn't handle the uncertainty any longer.. She needed to know... She had to... She tapped the Sapphire's arm, touching the higher-up with her filthy peasant slave skin, eyes appearing as though they were close to bursting with tears, and yet, Pearl held it in.. "Do you believe me? I am sincerely sorry, my clarity, i-if you do not... I... Did not shatter that gem..!" Pearl proclaimed ever so boldly, as the peasant struggled in Sapphire's grasp, and she snatched her hand away from her escort. She did not trust this Sapphire.. How could she? That symbol--- The diamond...! Those mixed reactions... So much information she was withholding... Pearl backed up, away from the enemy. She looked to her left, then frantically, swung an arm, and looked to her right. No.. No..!! Please..
..Pearl knew that what she had done was the last... Defying a Sapphire... Touching them... Holding their hand and then blasphemizing the pristine, unprecedented opportunity by retreating her grasp like a soiling peasant bitch. She was scared-- No, outright horrified. End of the line... All she could do-- Was...
And just as she did... All of the glass in the ship's windows.... The ship's panels... S h a t t e r e d .
The sapphire didn't directly observe the pearl for the most part as the two of them made their way down the beach and into the ship. After all, leading her by the hand was a rather convenient way to make sure she didn't wander off. As they made it onto the ship, the sapphire was still none the wiser, until she turned to face the gem as she spoke. The words were some of the most suspicious she'd ever heard in her line of duty, aside from an outright confession of guilt. She let the pearl go free-- mostly from the shock of the revelation. Her brows came together, and the corners of her lips drew down into a sharp frown. She opened her mouth as she searched Melo's expression, reading the chaos of emotions that barraged the pearl. Padparadscha attempted to get a word out, but her mouth worked silently as she watched the servant reel back from her.
Before she could say anything, or think of a way to deal with this situation, her head split as if it had been run through with a blade. "Agh!" She threw her hands up over the gemstone on her neck in an instinctive protective measure, her eyelids and teeth clenched hard as she stumbled back from the distraught gem. Padparadscha's bewilderment went up in flames, overtaken by her fury. "Pearl!" She lashed through her teeth, her eyes cracked open as she tried to see through the spots and the ringing that ricocheted around her head as she tried to get a grip on what happened. Nausea permeated her body, she couldn't stand anymore, but the air around her blazed with ire. "Whatis themeaning of this?!"
And then, from instinct, Pearl clenched her gem, and fell to the ground on one knee, heaving air in exhaustion, she could not control it, it came back to her, and her gem began to glow. A long pole began emerging, an angry expression spreading over the Pearl-- What happened...? What happened to her...? Was she trying to murder Padparadscha too..? Was this Pearl a rebel??!! But-- She stopped. She put her weapon away, and looked around at what she had done. A Sapphire on the ground, hurt, dizzied, and it was because of her.. Haha... What happened...? Hah.... "I'm a broken gem...." a crooked smirk spread across her face
The rage surfaced something inside her... She finally remembered something...
"Halt!! You are present at the court of the lustrous Pink Diamond!" The bulky Quartz soldier bellowed with an intimidating pressure to her voice. She summoned and raised a shield up to the gate, pink with a rose swirling around the surface from the center to the edges in a pink detailed work of art. The Quartz across from her did the same. They both looked ahead at the two visitors, a tall and noble Enstatite gem, her gem adorned on her chest, her hair flowing to the side, stationary in the air, her dress cutting off at the skirt. She seemed so calm, and her Pearl standing next to her, looking down to the ground, a nearly identical gem, serving as the dollhouse replica of the Enstatite's visage. The Quartz soldiers seemed unmoved. "State your purpose."
The Pearl appeared new to this lifestyle, as she opened her mouth to speak, and emitted a tiny moan "Uhm..." she spoke, but was interrupted by the outstretched arm of her master. "No need, Pearl. We are here under direct orders from Pink Diamond." the Enstatite lazily eyed the Quartzes, seemingly unamused of their blather and disrespect to such a high ranking gem as herself. She reached to her gem, and out emerged a cylinder which emitted a holographic letter from the diamond. The Quartzes observed it, checking for it's legitimacy. The Quartz on the left, short curly hair, looked to her comrade "It checks out," she said "You're free to pass."
The Enstatite and her Pearl passed through, but not without one of the Quartzes tripping the Pearl and causing her to fall on her face.
Pearl snapped out of her memory-- She looked around, picking herself up, and dashing outside of the ship, running as fast as she could, in the direction of Beach City, straight toward civilization... "I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry....!!" tears streamed down the Pearl's cheeks. The pressure... The reaction.. She didn't think.. She didn't think.. SHE DIDN'T THINK! She was going to be shattered now, and it was allher fault! Why..?? Why did she scream...?? She didn't know.. So all she could do was run... She'd be caught eventually.. She'd be...
Melody: as usual, just waiting for posts
