Pink returned to the site of the Sapphire event, which had ended a while ago. Since then she had wandered a few select locations, encountering new gems, and what would be, corruption. She had taken a beating, that was for sure, but it was small compared to she had previously experienced.
Her shoulder, which had been drenched with acid, had finally healed without having to retreat into her gem, but her shoulder's sleeve had yet to be repaired, which Pink paid no mind to.
The area was the same as before, a meadow, a lone picnic bench, and large grassy hills, with signs of a forest in a distance. There were more flowers this time, but as it was later in the afternoon, some of the flowers had closed, resting for the next day to come.
She sighed as she walked over to the table, taking a seat. She was tired, even if gems didn't need sleep. She wished for a moment to be back on Homeworld, entertaining the idea of doing her duties for Pink Diamond, and helping other elites if they asked for guidance.
Though, what exactly would she say to them? Pink didn't see into the future as some sapphires did, and her abilities could only recount what she had seen, or a small area around her, troubling to say the least.
Moving on, she also needed to learn to defend herself, but how? She was a sapphire, no combat experience, completely new, and without a weapon of choice.
Not even rubies to guide her in ways to defend herself, but even then, if they could, they were so new themselves, they probably didn't know how to fight fairly well.
As the warm mid-day breeze carried through the verdant hills, Padparadscha wandered through the grass, her hands clasped in front of her. There had always been a quaintness to Earth's wild state. But, over the course of her dispatches, looking on the ease with which organics seemed to thrive here gave her more discomfort than it once did. It was strange to be here now-- this place which she had once thought of as her sanctuary on the surface was now a gathering place. At least two other sapphires knew of it, and it would forever be the place where Earth hosted it's first gathering of sapphires. Still, it was an apt place to carry her musings as she let the wind filter through her hair. This time she was alone. Or was she?
A familiar gem sat perched on the picnic table. Padpara paused, and stared over, unsure of whether the other gem had spotted her as well. However, Pink Sapphire seemed to be deep within her own ruminations. There was a certain comradery that she felt with this other pink-court sapphire-- aside from the fact that they shared a Diamond, they both seemed to share a propensity toward quiet reflection. She straightened her skirt, and made her way to the table. Though part of her felt at odds with the idea of disturbing Pink's peace, she also felt she had an obligation to make herself known to the other pink-court sapphire.
"Ah, Pink Sapphire!" She said as she made her approach, her tone as sunny as the afternoon air around them,"What a surprise to see you! What brings you here?"

Pink perked as she heard Padparascha's voice, something she didn't expect, but she welcomed. "Oh, hello Padparascha!" She replied, a sense of excitement washing over her. She unseated herself, standing in the front of the table, and adjusted her dress to look proper, however, she once again had forgotten her sleeve, which she needed to reform after it had been completely destroyed.
"It's a surprise to see you here too! But as to regarding why I'm here, it appears that I don't really have a base of operations, so I've returned here, to contemplate on my choices." She continued, holding her arm as it rested, it seemed comforting, though it was starting to become a habit of hers.
"What brought you back here?" She asked, curious. She was beginning to notice that she was seeing gems more often now, and from what she remembered, this was the second time she had seen Padparascha, which she had no complaints to, but it felt like such a odd coincidence.
It gave her a smile to see that Pink welcomed her presence here; part of her had been worried that the other sapphire would be off-put. As she took in the sight of this gem she had been introduced to not long ago, she noticed the strange choice of dress. But, she kept quiet on that, perhaps this single-sleeved fashion was just another Earth custom that Padpara hadn't been introduced to yet.
Her smile dulled as Pink went on to speak of her circumstances. Though she had the urge to bring the young gem under her wing, she knew that many delicate situations played themselves out on Earths surface. From their last meeting, she surmised that Pink had a lot to contemplate, but the word choice brought up memories of that suspicious question the gem had asked during their gathering. If you had a choice. Padparadscha hated to think that this comrade would be thinking on undergoing an act of treason. But, she swallowed her doubts, and tried to put the conspicuous wording behind her.
"Ah, well, I've often thought of this as a place to come and think. I've been thinking a lot about...Earth, lately." Earth. She didn't really know what to think about this world anymore. "It's a rather peaceful nook on an otherwise chaotic planet, lends itself well to contemplation, no?" She tried to make her smile seem more inviting, but it came out weary. Her thoughts came back around to the word Pink had chosen to use, and she found she could no longer shove away the discomfort the word gave her. "Choices," She uttered, then stopped for a moment, unsure of how to continue while treading lightly. "...which have you contemplated?"

"This place really seems to be the most peaceful place I've seen on this planet..." She muttered, looking around, and taking in the peaceful scenery. However as she returned her gaze, she could see Padparascha's weary expression, perhaps this planet was too chaotic for the both of them.
As Padparascha asked her rather sudden question, she attempted to respond. "S-Simply put, I don't really know my choices." She sighed, her left arm crossing with her right.
"I could wander this planet in search of a way to return to my original purpose, but at this point, I wonder if I've been replaced so simply. A-and this planet, it's so hostile! When I left the gathering, I traversed across a few places, but I only met rebels, and with the most recent meeting of a rebel, he had to save me from being shattered by some form of corrupted gem." She continued, a slight tone of fear and desperation in her voice. Pink knew well she would of been easily shattered if that monster had hit her gem, and with all that acid...
Pink's shoulder seemed to hurt for the second the thought passed through her mind, causing her to shift her shoulder slightly.
It gave her an uneasy prickle to hear the other sapphire questioning how to approach her purpose, and to hear her talk of allowing rebels to save her. But, Padparadscha couldn't say that she wasn't guilty of the very same. She thought back on times when she could've been shattered if certain gems hadn't appeared when they did-- gems that were, by all accounts, traitors. Tension in her own shoulders rose as Pink spoke. The feeling of comradery she'd felt before rose with them. She was afraid to hear what Pink may have really thought about those rebels, considering her tone, so she didn't press on about that. If Pink were considering treason, right now, Padpara didn't want to know.
She reached out, and gently placed her hand on Pink's shoulder,"It must've been terrifying, but you've made it," She smiled,"With or without help, we sapphires are much stronger than we appear." She paused, her eyes flickered out toward the hills in the distance as she thought carefully about what she would say next. Concern weighed her down as she tried to think of a way to address Pink's dilemma with purpose. Padparadscha was troubled by her own notions of purpose. Every gem was born with the knowledge they needed to carry out their duties. But, her own purpose had been murky in the beginning. "I'll make a confession to you, Pink Sapphire," She said, more quietly, "Our Diamond...is merciful and generous. I wouldn't be here today if she wasn't. Sometimes, we find aspects of our purpose that weren't considered before-- I found mine with the help of our magnanimous Diamond, and a mentor,"
She swallowed. If it had been any other gem, she knew how the reaction would've been-- one of confusion, and often revulsion, at the fact that she was a model of gem experimental in nature. But, Pink Sapphire was young, and had evidently not spent much time in the courts, so Padpara felt more comfortable sharing with her.
Pink looked to the sapphire as the hand touched her shoulder, surprised by the sudden gesture. But as she continued, Pink smiled. Yeah, she had made it through the terrifying experience, while not in one piece, enough to make it here.
"Y-yeah, you're right." Pink chuckled, but as Padparascha continued on, Pink was surprised, a confession?
For some reason, Pink expected some traumatic secret, but in reality, it was just... reassuring information. Knowing that their diamond, Pink Diamond, was merciful, and generous. Pink began to hope, and clung to the thought. Though what surprised her most, was that Padparascha may not be here, had their diamond been less... merciful.
Padparascha seemed so, well... Cool! The fact that she may have not have been accepted, was almost unimaginable to Pink.
However, as she finished her statement, Pink begged the question, How would her diamond help her, when she herself was stuck on this planet? And what of this mentor? Where would she find one, should she actually make it?
And one more thing...
"That's really reassuring but... What of the current situation? I have no ship, and no way to defend myself should I encounter another corruption, or worse." She stated, her question echoing within as she contemplated that, as well.
((This was oddly the hardest post I've ever written, I blame my headache! Pfft.))
(headaches are the worst!! I can't write at all when I have one!)
Rescuing Earth-bound gems had become something of a hobby for her as of late, but she found that they didn't always want to be saved. Many gems had turned their backs to that hand she tried to extend to them-- Spade, Jazz, Iolite, Thulite...even Howlite to a certain degree. It hurt to know that they had shed their ties to their home. In some cases, they'd given up everything, their very purpose, and in the very end, denied help. Part of her feared that rejection now, and she sat silently as she mulled over her next choice of words. "Well," She sighed, and sat down next to the other gem. She drew her hands into her lap, and her mouth hung open for a moment before she spoke. "I have a ship."
She let the air settle for a moment so that Pink could gather her implications, then she went on,"Not only that, but I've seen my way around this planet. I've seen...far, far too many corruptions," So many that memories of those encounters were beginning to disturb her waking life, but she kept quiet on that. She looked down at the hands in her lap, then back up to Pink,"My powers were...initially, to be used to create art. But, Pink Diamond saw fit for me to use my abilities in the field. They've become a natural defense for myself. Now, you and I have a lot in common, Pink Sapphire-- the fact that you're here seems to suggest you have the power within you to survive on this planet. Your own latent purpose, perhaps? You must have abilities of your own, after all?"
"...You have a ship?" Pink replied, part of her bursting with joy, she could return home! She could fulfill her purpose as a sapphire to Pink Diamond, she could get off this rock, this horrifying, hostile rock! But, part of her thought differently. What about Spade? She... Couldn't just leave Spade, could she?
It shouldn't matter, right? She was to serve her diamond, not Spade. She was not supposed to love any gem, but her diamond.
Pink dropped the debate, and listened on as Padparascha continued, Pink realizing that she too, had encountered corruption, more then Pink had, which had only been the one previous time. She felt slight remorse for her, however, as previously mentioned, sapphires were stronger then they appeared. At least, Pink thought Padparascha was, as she seemed to get though it, better then Pink's handling of situations.
It was amazing, how their diamond was so creative. However, Pink became nervous as Padparascha questioned her abilities.
"Of course, except..." Pink looked at the table, lifting her finger as she drew upwards, a small example a fire wall rising. "My abilities are, fairly useless. They cannot burn, and they surely make a horrible shield." She continued, releasing the wall of fire as it returned into non-existence. "Sometimes, it even seems as if the flames have a mind of their own, though I have yet to see the flames react in such a way, here on this planet."
Plus, the only tactic she knew so far, was the fire wall in question.
The excitement in Pink's voice gave Papdaradscha hope that this gem would allow herself to be helped, but she decided to give Pink some time with that thought. Instead of going on about her vessel-- parked and concealed not far from this very location-- she decided to focus on the matter of helping this other sapphire to contemplate her abilities. As she listened to Pink speak, she remembered a wisdom that a certain soldier gem had once shared with her.
"Your flame doesn't burn, hm? But does your enemy know that?" She smirked at the other sapphire,"Intimidation is useful in any conflict-- civil or uncivil. Though I can understand your frustration. It would be only a matter of time before our theoretical enemy saw through your feint," The sapphire stepped down from the table, and paced around a bit as she thought about Pink's description of her ability. "A mind of its own, you say?" She found herself curious. The sapphire had never had trouble controlling her own plasma, it bent to her will without a second thought-- her trouble had been learning to use it combatively as opposed to mundanely. Still, the small demonstration of Pink's flame gave her an idea.
"Perhaps we can coax forth that mind, and get to know it?" She gestured for the other pink-court gem to come join her,"Imagine that I'm you're enemy, and show me how you would use your ability against me," Being told of this fire's apparent lack of heat, Padparadscha wondered if there wasn't more to the nature of it. There seemed to be a reason that this fire was cold. A mind of its own, and the ability to resist crisping its surroundings...

Pink nodded along as Padparascha seemed to iron out the details of her abilities, a fair judgement. However, pink was surprised at the idea of "coaxing forth that mind" from her fire.
"O-oh,A-alright." Pink replied, unseating herself and walking over. She wasn't sure how showing how she'd use her abilities against the Sapphire would be productive, but, part of her was hopeful.
"Here we go..." She muttered to herself, standing a fair distance away from Padparascha, and put her left arm out. raising her arm with sudden speed, a wall of fire raised as quickly a few steps in-front of Padparascha, which wavered for only a mere second as it seemed to attempt a different shape.
Oddly, this was the second time it had acted out on it's own, since back on her colony. Yet it seemed to be a little more active then before, now that Pink seemed to think that maybe there was perhaps, a mind within.
Padparadscha's eyebrows shot up as she watched the fire wall appear, then writhe as it seemed to try another form. She rubbed her chin, then stepped forward. Even if it hadn't been a cold flame, Padpara was resistant to temperatures far greater than anything she'd encountered, and so she had no fear in passing her arms through-- then she stepped entirely through it. It certainly looked like fire, but it behaved vastly different from any flame she'd seen. Her eyebrows furrowed as she ruminated on this, comparing it to every past experience she'd undergone.
"It's almost like a hologram of sorts," She mused aloud,"a projection mimicking thermal energy?" She'd seen independent holograms before, particularly one from an Emerald who spoke to her hologram as if it were a companion. But, this took the shape of fire, suggesting that it had abilities connected to its thermal nature. A mind of its own..."Are you actively focusing this wall shape, or does it naturally form this way?"
For her own ability, focusing on form was paramount. Otherwise, no form would manifest. But perhaps a different tactic was needed to help Pink overcome her barrier. Her answer would help Padparadscha determine the truth of this matter.

Pink flinched as Padparascha just walked through, the wall wavering once again. While she knew herself that the fire was harmless, she felt both worry and discouragement at the site. "A-Aren't you afraid of burning..?" She muttered, slightly concerned.
However, as she she shifted her focus on responding to Padparascha, the Fire seemed to loose it's stability, the wall that had once been there, began to shift once again.
"I'm focusing on holding it together... Or at least, trying to!" She replied, trying her best to hold the fire down into a solid shape.
This one tactic she had been taught was for defense purposes only, and when she had learned it, it had been rather difficult to hold it together, but now...
It seemed a little stronger then normal, as if had broken through her view of what she considered the right structure, and wanted to be something different.
"...Hey, Padparascha back up! I'm going to try something..!" She called, slowly loosening her grip on the fire, letting it form something... New.
The wall began to twist and struggle, expanding and collapsing as she let it go completely. It seemed to have no direction, yet a idea of what it wanted to become.
"Oh, I've never had fear of burning," She smiled, trying to reassure the gem, "I wouldn't be able to manipulate plasma if I did," Her constructs could reach temperatures on-par with those of a main sequence star or planet's core, depending on her vitality. Though, it occurred to her that the other sapphire had never witnessed her ability nor the immense amount of concentration and energy that it took to manifest. Perhaps she could show off another time, but for now, she focused on Pink Sapphire.
At Pink's request, Padparadscha stepped back a few meters and let her try it. Her smile grew as the flames flicked and morphed, trying to take another shape as the pink-court gem let go of the notions she'd tried to force upon her fire. "That's it! You're onto something!" She circled around the fire, observing it closely as it tried to find its form,"Maybe it needs to be provoked?"
In a flash of pink light, Padpara's katar took shape in her hands. Her blades glinted in the afternoon sun as she rose them up in front of her. Then, without another warning, she dashed straight toward Pink Sapphire.
The fire seemed to continue twisting and stretching, in a way, Pink found it pretty. However as she became distracted with the motions, she barely heard Paddy offer an idea that involved provoking the fire, which before she could ask what Paddy had said, she turned to face the gem, her eyes widening as Paddy was beginning to dash toward her, weapons equipped.
She cried out in alarm, crossing her arms as she tried to protect herself, what type of idea was this?! Would Paddy be able to stop should the fire do nothing?
However, the fire did something, right as Pink had crossed her arms in-front of her face.
It seemed to erupt, the fire growing upwards at a rapid pace, bending as it became a arm, then fingers, a palm. This newly formed arm attempted to slam into Padparascha with it's hand, or grab onto her, just to stop her from reaching Pink before she could "attack" her.
The flames seemed to snarl as it attempted it's attack on the Sapphire.
