Meta appeared out of the warp-bridge, Alex's inactive gem held above her shoulder in a bubble. As soon as the light of the warp dissipated, she sprinted for the fountain itself, scrambling through the thick, thorny underbrush that surrounded the fountain proper. Bursting through to the other side, outfit and hair entangled with bits of thorn and broken stem, Meta jets to the fountain.....
And hits what feels like a solid wall. She gasps, and stands for a moment, almost panting. That was right. Rose had rigged it.... Corrupted Gems could not.... Could not pass. Meta stood for a moment. That wasn't relevant. Not to her. She was here to help her friend... And she was. Not. Corrupted. Meta squared her shoulders, took a deep breath, and walked into the fountain.
Easy as that.
She layed the Gem in the healing waters, crouching, knee-deep in the fountain.
Spinel was sitting next to the fountain, poking at the strange force-field that would not allow him in. It was unlike anything he had ever seen before... It just defied all explanation. (After all, Spinel only knows Earth, so he doesn't know that Gem stuff is supposedly magic. He doesn't even know about religions other than those that developed on Earth, for that matter.) It was dumbfounding to him that something could just prevent his entrance. It was invisible, and it wasn't solid, and it possibly wasn't even a real... thing.
He sighed in slight frustration, still poking the strange, invisible field until a sound came from the warp pad. He didn't bat an eyelash, and continued to poke at the thing. The thing that came from the warp pad was a Gem, carrying another Gem in a bubble and was about to attempt to enter the force-field. Spinel watched as she tried to push through the field, but was failing. He knew she wasn't paying attention to him, but he decided to speak anyways. "Do not bother, friend, corrupts like you and I cannot pass the..."
His eyes widened in amazement, and his jaw dropped at the sight of this stranger surpassing the force-field. "You... You passed the field like a knife through sūyóu!" He stood, speaking rapidly and excitedly. "I can't believe it! How did you manage to achieve that?"
Meta hadn't even noticed Spinel on the way in. Her worry for Alex had apparantly given her tunnel-vision.... Alarming. She couldn't afford to be unobservant. Especially not when she was literally carrying a life in her hands. Staring at Alex for a moment longer, Meta turned her gaze up to the Gem. She recognized him. She'd seen him before... At the very same fountain. Back when she'd come woth Topaz to this place for the first time, after Tourmaline.....
Had he just called her corrupted? Meta's eyes narrowed, then flashed blue-white, a tiny arc of static emerging from one.
"I'm not corrupted. As you said, corrupted Gems can't enter the fountain."
As she spoke, she noticed that she was beginning to cause the water to boil......... Inhaling, Meta stepped out of the water. She didn't want to fry Alex, or contaminate the place with radiation, even if it did take a bit of the credibility out of her previous statement...
((this may seem sorta weird but im doing a time skip here for the sake of character, considering how long gems exist for a week would be rather arbitrary and if you want Spinel you could justifie that you returned to the fountain for a second time))
Nothing, not so much as a movement within the gem. Young Alex had been placed in the water but his form did not regenerate instantly and the cracks still remained on the gemstone. Disheartenly he remained like this for a entire week, no activity or movement coming from the gem. It simply bobbed underneath the water being slowly moved by the currents.
Finally as the sun had began rising on the 6th day something finally happened. It began with a small wind, nothing unusual or noticeable but this was the first sign. A few moments afterwards the gem began to glow. Rising out of the water the gem moved over to the edge. The form emerged out of the stone. The glowing white mannequin form landed feet on the ground. From there its normal silhouette form began to emerge, however instead of solidifying as normal its began to shift again. The jacket closed at the front of the form, while the tail of the jackets completed fully around the back. The pants hugged his form more and the spiked hair shifted downwards and extended moving all the way down to where his back gems were. His shoulder piece extended over into two symmetrical pieces that covered both shoulders and finally his goggles changed size and moved down to his neck instead of his head.
The colour returned to his skin and in a small pop Alex regenerated fully.A deatils that only just emerged though was the two lines that drove across his lower torso and left leg. These lines and the shifts in colour from them directly lines up with the area that Alex had been hit in.Almost as if they were scars from the damage.
He winced as he glanced at the sun trying to take in his surroundings.
Meta blinked, a layer of rose-petals falling from her wild blue hair.
She remarked, standing. When he had not healed immediately, she'd simply waited. And waited. For a Gem as old as Meta, a week was not a terribly long time to wait. Tedius when you had nothing to do but watch and hope, yes, but small in the scheme of things. It was to Meta as staying overnight at a hospital to wait for someone to awaken was for a human.
She was just happy to see him intact.
The tall Gem shook the coating of rose-petals from the rest of her body, and stepped over the lip of the fountain, this time with no trouble whatsoever.
Meta said it in a funny sort of way, as if she was convincing herself, or had expected otherwise. The Gem folded Alex in a hug, lifting him out of the water. Hugging Meta was a mixed experience.
On one hand, she was soft, and smelled like summer and the air just before thunderstorms (and roses, since she'd been sitting under a pile of petals for the past seven or so days), but on the other, she seemed to thrum or vibrate like the beat of a great heart, and she radiated a scorching heat.
Spinel left Rose's fountain a week ago, and had not returned to Beach City for a week due to his visit to South Africa. His reason for doing so was simple: To gain another animal companion. He was very fond of Earth's reptiles due to the majority of his remembered life taking place in China, where reptiles were very important to history and culture. As he returned to the fountain to Beach City with his new pet African Bush Viper, Kaluk, he was surprised. The one who conquered the force-field was either visiting again, or was either still there, or had returned at the same time. This time, however, she wasn't alone.
He waited for some time before the hug disbanded, and sarcastically clapped, obviously pretending to be moved by the display. "That was just... beautiful." He chuckled as his new pet slid up his arm and around his neck. Spinel got serious again. "In all seriousness, how did you bypass the field? I need to know this."
"Were you worried?" He asked slightly confused "I though- I got hit again didn't I?"
The hug was defiantly surprising to say the least for Alex, it was certainly strange be gripped by someone significantly taller than you and the mixed scents and feeling was both embarrassing and relaxing although the Alex's intense blushing made the former much more apparent. The heat and pulsing was one of the strangest aspects to Meta. Alex was quickly finding out that he had a extensively high temperature threshold as the intense heat was little more than a strange sensation.
"Geez its like you thought I was dead or something" He smiled "Relax i'm durable...I think"
"Although you going to have to fill me i-"
He whipped his head around when he heard the clapping and look awkwardly away from the gem standing a short distance away "Who are you and how long until you stop making this akwa-"
"In all seriousness, how did you bypass the field? I need to know this."
"Field?" Alex asked confused "What Fei-" Alex smacked into the invisible barrier with a dull thud. Confused at the wall he tried to push against it, and fell flat on his face outside the fountain with a small oof, his form glitching out for a second as he fell.He stood up quickly trying to regain some sort of composure in front of the other Gems.
Apart from being slightly clumsy something else stranger would become apparent if Spinel attempted to read his memories. They would simply cut off. His memories in total would only be a few short weeks. Beginning with some blurred visions in space, him crashing violently to earth and ending with what has happened at this very instance.

Meta gasped and started forwards as the other Gem smacked into the field, then managed through. He was only a little betternoff than Meta herself...... But Meta had a hundred millenia's worth of practice and more behind her eyes to help her resist the corruption, and revert when she fell to it.
Alex did not.
The tall Gem ran to Alex quickly, inspecting him to make sure the fall hadn't damaged his Gem or anything like that.... For most Gems, you'd have to practically fall off a cliff onto a boulder to worry about any sort of damage to one's Gem, but Alex... Alex was already so cracked.
"We can get through the field because we aren't corrupted."
Meta practically snarled at Spinel's watching form, eyes flashing.
"That may not be true anymore, friend." Spinel studied the invisible... thing. "As you can see, Rose's field is now affecting non-corrupt Gems as well as the corrupt." He began poking at the field, watching it bubble about, then disappear after a few seconds. It was still there, alluding and taunting the naked eye. "First off, you couldn't get through easily, now this Alex just hit his head against a field that should only interact with corrupt Gems. The field is faltering." He started tapping on the bubble again, but doing it in rhythm this time around.
"I thought I was corrupt because the field was stopping me, but now I can see something similar is happening to you, too. I would be very grateful if one of you would retrieve a sample of the water. I have hypothesized that the water could be tainted by a foreign force, forcing the fountain to protect it's water even more than before. I must analyze the water for what that might be." He crossed his arms behind his back, which complimented his old uniform and his posture.
Alex cautiously took a step back from Spinel when Meta made her comment about not being corrupted and yet again ended up bumping into the field. His form glitch out as he stumbled away from the field again looking back at it "Maybe it stops damaged gems" He muttered under his breath
"How can it even malfunction" Alex asked. He looked over at Spinel cautiously and continued albeit more quietly "and, how can we trust...You, we can still walk through it, you" He trailed off moving closer to Meta as he did.Albeit he wasn't in any state to start a fight, but at the same rate he was very cautious of this new gem. Something seemed off about him and Alex did not want to find out, and yes maybe the idea of taking water out of the fountain made Alex nervous. If it had a field to stop corrupted gems then Alex assumed it would have something in place to stop perceived threats from removing water aswell and he didn't need another reminder about how he could not use any of his powers to defend himself.
((Just winging it that maybe if you guys wanted removing water from the fountain could cause those vine things we see in Indirect Kiss to emerge and attack us))
Meta held Spinel's gaze, expression flat. She weighed her options....... Something was definitely wrong about this Gem. Even Alex seemed to notice; the younger Gem took a few steps back and stayed close to her when he began to speak again, and Meta didn't much blame him. She didn't think this Gem was here to cause a fight, but he registered a 9 on her "iffy" radar.
"Oh, you're corrupt. I'd bet on it...."
Against her better instincts, Meta slowly slid off the stone ledge she was standing on and formed a bubble below the water, raising it up out and holding it out. She pushed off the fountainbed and hovered to the edge..... It was difficult, but after a moment, she slid smoothly over the barrier. Meta paused in front of Spinel for a moment, towering over the gem by more than a head's height even when she set down flat on her feet.
"Here's your water. If you th-"
Meta was cut off as something lashed around her left ankle and tore her off her feet, the bubble collapsing and sending the water cascading uselessly across the ground, soaking into the dirt outside the fountain. Meta scrabbled at the ground and sat up unsteadily, still being dragged. With a grunt, she manifested her axe, and chopped the vine away. As she began to get to her feet, another vine, as thick around as Meta's forearm, smashed into her back and floored her. Dust and dirt sprayed out from under Meta, and she lay senseless, mouth open. The thorny tendril pealed off her back with a wet sucking noise, taking bits of Meta's outfit and some of her skin with it..... As it started to come back down, Meta rolled to the side and hacked the vine in half with a slice from her axe, a noise of effort escaping her throat. Hovering into the air, she glided back..... And was clotheslined viciously by a pair of vines, the thick, thorny plants catching her around the head and forming a noose....... Meta failed and scratched at their jagged surfaces for a moment, accidentally dropping her axe, then seemed to glow, and the vines suddenly fumed and smoke, turning black and catching fire......
Meta dropped and hit the ground hard, sitting on her hands and knees, clutching her throat......
Other vines began to slither out of the tangle surrounding the fountain, heading for Spinel....
"Gee, thanks..." Spinel stated sarcastically after the Gem dropped the water. He noticed that a vine of some kind had caused this, but he didn't care. He quickly formed a bubble in the soil and removed it from the Earth. He then threw the bubble at the fountain, hoping for it to stop the vine's advances. After the bubble broke, releasing Rose's tears and the soil, he ran towards Meta. He summoned his Khopesh and started to hack at the vines encasing the large Gem, until he himself was grabbed by the large vines, causing him to get pulled into the air. He looked at Alex and started screaming, "Put the water back in the fountain!" He was thrown to the ground, and the vines started to curl around Spinel, starting to crush him. At the time, Kaluk simply slithered over to the warp pad and watched... Good ol' Kaluk...
e A figure could be seen walking in the distance form the fountain. It was malachite, having suffered minor battle wounds from a fight against several corrupted creatures he came to the fountain for the healing water.
Malachite continued his way down a path to the fountain when he saw Meta, beaten and looking almost defeated and beside her spinel who was getting attacked thorny vines. "Oh no!!" He broke into a sprint towards the 3 gems taking out his chain-scythe from his gem. "Don't worry km coming to help"
Malachite said approaching close when suddenly to his left, a vine lashed out at his face. With quick reflex he dodged it by dropping low to the ground. Slashing it with his blade. "What the heck are these "He asked getting back up.
Alex watched on with slight fear as Meta removed water from the fountain and with good reason, his initial fears about the fountain turned out to be true and the vines had not hesitated to latch onto both Meta and Spinel. The bubble had popped uselessly to the ground and the entire time Alex was stuck there not sure what to do. The order of Spinel fell of deaf ears as he ran over to Meta. The fear was evident in his eyes as he looked around at the scene of choas and of Meta's beaten form.
"I-I" He stuttered noticing the water again but at the same time realising that the vines were attacking Spinel and more importantly for him they might come back and get Meta. The vines seemed to be advancing on him aswell, slithering on the ground towards where he was. Shakily he rose back up. Closing his eyes tears streaking down his face.
"leave them" The winds began to pick up violently blasting across and moving closer to Alex's form, rushing around him, charging up.
"ALONE!" He cried. The wind that were gathered erupted outwards whipping and blasting away almost like a massive shockwave from the area forcing everything back. His initial blasts against Meta when they had met would be like a small breeze compared to this. The speed these winds were exploding outwards was levelling on gale force winds and it didn't stop. It was like a continuous hurricane around this area now. Alex's expression seemed almost inhuman. His eyes more focused then ever between the sporadic glitching of his form that was becoming more frequent with every second. His hands opened up gather balls of wind as he leapt up into the air. His body twisted around gather more energy in the balls before releasing the two of them mid spin straight at the vines that were constricting Spinel. The balls flattened out into disks with a edge that easily cut through the set of vines constricting him.Instinctively Alex had also created a thick dome of wind surrounding Meta allowing the winds to move around her and not knock her around.
As Alex landed back on the ground he ran towards the spilt water, his hand sweeping down and creating a bubble before he jumped up and launched it at the fountain. The bubble burst on the statue of rose falling back down into the fountain itself as Alex finally got hit. A large vine had struck him square offset on the back, it was funny the vine seemed to of purposely aimed for it, the most fragile place on his body. Meta would know exactly where it hit him. The impact had knocked him over the fountain, to the other side out of sight of the two gems.
He landed roughly on his back, the winds dying down unnaturally fast as he laid there, immobilised by the impact. Groaning quietly as his form still glitched out significantly as he looked at the back of the statue. He just hoped putting the water back worked.
As the first few vines were blasted apart, more began to emerge, the entire, massive growth that surrounded the fountain seeming to creak and moan and move. More vines rose out of the dense patchwork, wavering in the air like cobras in a scene from Aladdin, then sliding across the ground towards the Gems, thorny lengths rustling against the ground...... They began to close in.
Two wrapped around Meta's legs, constricting her flesh and beginning to drag her.... Meta clawed sluggishly at the ground and managed to hack one away with her axe, blasting another......... She raised her hands, preparing to target the plants themselves. She didn't want to do it, but so help her..... Plasma-orbs grew in either hand.....
As soon as Alex replaced the water, the vines stopped. Meta sat frozen, severed vines snaring her legs, hesitant to move. There was a long period of stillness, then the vines curled in on themselves and seemed to meld back into the thorny hedge surrounding the fountain. Meta breathed a deep sigh of relief, and vaporized the vines around her legs. The tall Gem stood, and leaned over for a moment, testing them..... Then she stood up straight and glared at Spinel.
"Get your own damn water."
The leggy, bronze-skinned Gem picked a bit of vine from her wild blue hair and looked back at Alex, expression making it clear that she wanted to go. As she started to walk, adjusting the torn back of her top, she noted Malachite.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
