Far off to the north was a vast landmass that was mostly uninhabited, yet that did not mean it was entirely lifeless or unexplored. In fact, in this cold seemingly frozen still white tundra was a splash of color. A short ways away from the local warp pad was a tall red fusion, clutching herself tightly in the chilling breeze. Talking to seemingly no one her voice echoed out in the silence, "I know we can't freeze to death, but I still hate this. Of all the gems to send, why did it have to be us?" There was a slight pause before she spoke again, albeit in a slightly different tone, "Because we're pyropes, and we're expendable for these sorts of things. But... I do almost miss Beach City."
And so she continued trudging along in the snow, leaving a very obvious set of tracks behind her. Had this been a dangerous mission perhaps she would have taken some steps to cover them, but as far as the mission parameters stated this was simply a scouting job. Nothing dangerous was within a hundred miles of this desolate wasteland of snow and ice. In fact the only sight she had so far was the frigid trees and occasional sprinkling of resilient shrubbery.
Like a strike of lightning in a winter storm, the warp pad lit up, a beam of white light seeming to fire upwards into the clouds, though any who watched closely enough, or perhaps understood the true nature of warp technology, would know the truth. Amidst that flash of light, a tall, burly Clear Quartz gem materialized in the frigid air. 7XB’s wild mop of bone-colored hair fluttered about in the wind. This particular gem had a much different reasoning for being here, snowflakes steaming away as they battered against their skin.
They'd recently discovered, by way of their ill-fated foray into the Earth’s jungle, that the corruption that infested the kindergarten had since made its way across the planets myriad climates. While it didn't seem as if this barren waste supported much life at all, these creatures were, at their core, gems, and the restrictions of organic life didn't mean anything to them. Besides that, records had already told them of sightings in this region: Hulking beasts that stalked their way through the snow.
The tracks left carelessly in the snow were evident right away, sharp eyes narrowing..
Pyrope had actually made very little progress from the warp pad, the nature of their mission meant they couldn't afford to be too quick with their scouting. Supposedly some sort of old structure was out here that she was meant to confirm even existed. To her it seemed like a massive waste of time, her job wasn't even to secure it. But orders were orders, so she trotted along carefully as to not miss anything obvious.
At some point during her investigation however, the quiet skyline was broken up by the all too familiar beam of a warp pad activating, Immediately she grew defensive, as far as she saw things the chances of this being a coincidence were slim. Either Homeworld had assigned another gem to a similar task, or somehow the rebels had gotten wind of her mission and sent someone after her. Her biggest issue right now was the fact that her red form made her immediately visible. It then also struck her that she was careless and left a clear set of tracks, though perhaps this could be worked to her advantage.
Falling prone, Pyrope took what time she had to start covering herself in a thick layer of snow, leaving just her eyes and tiny part of her face visible. It was incredibly uncomfortable, and wouldn't hold up to close scrutiny, but it was far better than being out in the open.
Though it was easy enough to latch onto the idea that these tracks had been made by one of the beasts they were seeking, 7XB was not quite convinced. If nothing else these corrupted gems still, from what they had seen, possessed at least some rudimentary intelligence, and a hunter’s instinct. They couldn't imagine that such an obvious trail would have been left behind.
Unless it was a trap, which wouldn't be the first time.
Either way, it wasn't going to deter the Quartz from their goal. It was frustrating enough that they had been able to recover so few assets intact, they weren't going to allow anything to stop them from taking these corrupted gems back for further study. Muscles coiled as they lurched forward off of the warp pad, sinking through the fluffy white snow until they came into contact with the hard-packed earth.
Pyrope had expected whoever was arriving to move faster than they were, but whoever it was seemed to be moving carefully. That would have been fine, after all she was made to be a guard so waiting was certainly one of her skills, but the cold snow over her form had grown from an annoyance to uncomfortable. Thankfully however, just as it was bordering on painful, she finally got a good look at whoever the newcomer was. Of all the possibilities, this was certainly not the situation Pyrope had seen herself getting into.
A little bit of panic began to flood through her, and part of her almost wished it had been some rebel pursuer. After their last meeting, Pyrope had been dreading their next bump into XB. It wasn't so much of a case that she had an issue with them, but rather they were afraid how XB would react. It had been some time, but even so she wasn't sure it was the right time to make contact again. Yet there were not many options of retreat at this point. There was little foliage, and her bright red form didn't blend into the surroundings at all.
It seems she was stuck observing XB for the time being, hoping in her mind that they passed by without noticing the little part of her face still visible from under the snow. And considering her now painful numbness, hopefully sooner rather than later.
What little light that made it's way through the dark, angry clouds overhead didn't exactly help the clear quartz soldier in their search for who-or what- ever else was to be found out here in this frozen waste; To the contrary, as it caught on each and every flake that spiraled out of control through the arctic breeze, it made it nearly impossible, even for 7XB, to make out much more than whited-out static.
The tracks they had found leading away from the warp trailed off into a nearby snowbank, and the Quartz imagined that they could make out a vaguely..crimson shape? Wait a minute..
“Oh.” They clipped over the wind, clearly forlorn, or perhaps just annoyed, “it's you.” It had been a fruitless pipe dream for 7XB to hope that they would never see the pair of pyropes again, and were it not for what had occurred between themselves and the permafusion, they might have been relieved to see another yellow diamond gem.
“What exactly are you doing? You two do not exactly blend in.”
Her breathing (despite being an entirely useless habit) stopped as XB neared, her entire body tensing up. Pyrope's form ran cold, or at least it would have had it not already been frozen, as XB's eyes seemed to meet her. The collected tension was suddenly released as she jumped upon being addressed, sloughing off most of the snow that covered the majority of her form. Rising up off the ground, swiping off the rest of the freezing debris, "I- er, we saw the warp pad activate and uh.. uhm... were uh... trying to...... hide......"
Her face was flushed and her speech was rapid, embarrassed both by her attempts at stealth and the confrontation of running into XB again, "I guess it didn't work very well. Sorry..."
The Quartz lifted a brow at the two-pyrope fusion continuously tripped over her own explanation, the look of annoyance set deeper into 7XB’s visage with each passing moment. With the situation on the planet as dangerous as it was, even something as simple and commonplace as a warp pad was a reason for concern, a potential vector for rebellious gems as much as it was Loyalist forces. But regardless, their frustration with this fusion originated elsewhere, broad arms crossed over their chest.
“Well, yes,” they clipped bluntly, “It wasn't exactly a very inspired hiding place, was it?” Even if they had been a crystal gem, even a particularly inept and unobservant one, the crimson gem would have been all too easy to pick out amongst the snow.”
“And what exactly are you doing out here, anyway?”
She made an effort to break eye contact to avoid some embarrassment, "Well, to be fair we aren't exactly trained for this. Stealth was never part of the job, and our coloring doesn't exactly help here."
Pyrope collected herself as things seemed to stay calm, although she kept stealing glances at XB rather than looking at them directly. Awkwardly she scratched the back of her head, although talking about mission parameters instead of person things was much easier, "It's a simple scouting mission, reports say there might have been an old outpost nearby. As far as the snoody peridots wanted to tell me, the info on this area is spotty at best after what the rebels did. So there's possibly a few minor locations that got lost over the years."
The fusion let out a long sigh, "So they've got us trudging along out here hoping we stumble into something." Despite the not exactly friendly atmosphere she couldn't help but ask, "Wait, why are you here then if not for this same mission?"
“That really isn't your concern, now is it, Fusion?” They replied rather caustically, a venomous reply to the red Fusion’s rather innocuous query: She had, after all, given away the parameters of her own mission without much fuss, though perhaps that said more about the dangerously lax nature of fused gems, or at the very least permafusions. The hypocrisy of their own, long-standing feelings after what they had done seemed to agitate the quartz gem more than anything, even the sight of the red gems in front of them.
“If you must know, I am in the process of tracking corrupted gems.” In all their time upon the Earth the Clear Quartz’s objective had not changed, though that was, perhaps, due more in part to the lack of communication with their Diamond than anything. In hunting corrupted gems they could feel, somewhat, like they were recovering Homeworld assets. “My records show that many of the larger, more dangerous corrupted quartz gems have been spotted in this region, so I'm here to follow up.” It had proven difficult to track the creatures from any distance, especially in their current climate.
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.

Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
