Lapis flew out of Beach City towards the nearest field. She intended to meet Ruby there soon, but secretly worried that Ruby might not remember the field they had visited before. Despite their happy reunion several days ago, Lapis continued to act strange and distant towards Ruby. She was friendly enough towards her—all smiles whenever Ruby was around—but lacked the usual warmth. Instead of clinging to Ruby's hip, she mostly kept to herself now. Deciding to meet out in this field would have been the first thing they had likely done together since they returned from Jersey.
Lapis landed in the middle of the field and shook the watery wings from her arms. She gave a brief scan of her surroundings to see if anyone was there, and upon finding no one, sat down right where she was.
After a small period of time, there was the telltale sound of quick rustling and grass crunching. Ruby jogged through the field - once Lapis could see her, she could also see that she was still wearing her apron from work. In general, Ruby seemed a lot less wide-eyed and curious since their trip to Jersey, but on the inside, her curiosity had still been there. This was reflected in her still wanting to see new things on Earth, and learn as much as she could. Though she certainly retained her active nature, which was obvious as she shuffled through the field towards Lapis.
"Sorry - um - work ran late." Ruby said, stopping five or so feet away from Lapis and dropping her bag so she could take off, and put away, her apron.
Lapis smiled with fondness when she saw her, although there was a twinge of sadness. "That's alright. I'm just glad they let you continue working." As Ruby put her apron away, Lapis stood up and walked over so she could sit beside her. "I was wondering if we could get to know each other again. Now that you know who you really are, I don't know if I still know you. I just wanted to learn about the new you. It would make me feel bad if we went out to do things we used to enjoy, except you don't like them anymore. Maybe we could also talk about your past, and your thoughts on things, too." She fell onto her back to look up at the sky. "You used to like this—the old you."
"Oh -- okay. It might be nice for me to think through everything too... To be honest, I haven't had much time to come to terms with everything either. It's hard to think about how you feel about things when you're busy all the time." Ruby put down her bag, turned around and laid down in the grass next to Lapis. A gentle breeze blew over them.
"Hm... yeah, I remember this! I mean, I remember when we did this." Ruby nodded, watching a passing cloud with some curiosity. "But we weren't outside... I remember because I remember how the apartment smelled. And I also don't remember seeing anything moving like those." She pointed up at a cloud.
"...is... is that right?" Ruby asked, a little curiously, but with an edge of worry and vulnerability.
"You... don't remember what a cloud is?" Her smile dropped a little. "Well, I guess we didn't do this outside very often. I think it was usually easier to stay in the apartment. I'm just... surprised that you can remember the arcade but you can't remember a cloud. How do you feel about the arcade now? And the humans? And... most things. Are you a more serious person now that you're back to being a captain? I know you said a lot of the decisions we made were good, but... is that for business reasons or because you liked what we did together?" She sat up and looked at her. "I don't know, maybe you could just tell me about the real you."
"Oh - clouds. Right. I forgot." Ruby rubbed her face, turning to look at Lapis as she sat up - not sitting up herself. "Well... yeah, it's sort of weird... and I still remember more about what happened here on Earth than I do before the crash. If I concentrate, I might be able to remember more of my past." Ruby closed her eyes and sat in silence for a few moments, letting the wind wash over her. Then she began.
"...my name is Ruby F-3T2T C-6KP. Born on - yeah - born on Homeworld. Along with... tens... no... hundreds of other Rubies." Ruby kept her eyes closed, though sometimes her eyelids would scrunch when she was thinking hard. "We were created for Yellow Diamond. Just general soldiers. I was assigned to... a Quartz. I can't tell what kind. I... I don't remember. But not an Agate - though there was an Agate... a Yellow Agate." Ruby frowned slightly.
"We were on a mission, and the Quartz we were with got shattered. I don't remember why - I don't think it was my fault. But we had to finish the mission, so I took her spot, and we made it back to Homeworld. Yellow Agate was displeased with us. She ordered the rest of my squad to be punished... but she spared me because I managed to keep everyone together. In fact, she even gave me a promotion - to make me a captain of a crew of other Rubies. That's where I met 1A3G. She was part of my crew... well, for as long as I had a crew. Most of our missions were boring, I think... the one to Earth stands out."
"...but I guess that's more about where I'm from than who I am. I'd say I'm more serious than the 'other me' was. But really I'm just less... innocent? I just know more." She explained. "I - I have all of the memories she had. I am her, just... sorry, this is hard to explain..." Ruby opened her eyes finally and looked back over.
"It's like as if... one day, someone told you that you weren't you, and that you were actually someone else. You keep your memories, it just changes how you think about them. Sometimes a memory you had while you were this 'other gem' changes how you feel about all those memories - even the ones you had before you became that new person. Like... I bet if I had had all these experiences, but never met you, I wouldn't feel the same as I do right now." She managed a small smile.
"I remember the arcade - and I like the arcade too! It's a fun way to train your reflexes and receive tickets to trade for stuffed Earth animals. And I do like humans too, though they're still sort of... weird." Ruby gave a few chuckles. "But... no, I didn't say I thought everything we did was good for... 'business' reasons. I said it because - because I really did think it was good. I think without the experiences that the 'other me' had, I wouldn't feel that way. Everything you taught her, you taught me. And thanks to you, my opinion on lots of things have changed since the Homeworld days."
Lapis carefully listened to Ruby speak, nodding where appropriate and smiling when she sensed Ruby smiling, though she continued to watch the sky. "I understand. Sometimes when I go back into memories to play them again, I feel differently from when I had in the moment. Being able to watch those things as an outsider can change how you feel." She looked over at her. "So what about me? It sounds like from everything you said, you still like me. But you're a decorated Ruby captain now, and I'm a terraformer who can't terraform. Have your thoughts on our friendship changed now that our ranks are so much different, and have your thoughts on what we're doing with Homeworld and the Crystal Gems changed?"
"Have my thoughts on our..." Ruby stared, looking over at Lapis with her eyes wider than they were before. "Um... I mean... no, I don't think so. It's - it's not the same as it was before I found out about who I really am, but that wouldn't have been possible - and - and that's not a bad thing! It's not as if I stopped liking you just because I found out you can't do the stuff a 'normal' Lapis Lazuli can." She air quoted. "Or that I'm a captain, and you're not?"
"If anything, the fact that you were so nice taught me that it doesn't really matter what a gem's power does, it's how they act that matters. It's how they treat other gems, and the stuff around them - like their personality! Maybe that's just an Earth thing, though there are still really annoying and snarky Homeworld gems on Earth, so..." She shrugged. "I like you just as much as - well, just as much as I liked you before. I might even like you better for forgiving me after all this..." Ruby chuckled, but couldn't really bring herself to smile at the reminder of her misdeeds.
Lapis gently smiled, albeit a little sad. "Of course I forgive you. You didn't lie to me; you just didn't know what was true. I can't be angry at you for that. I don't... want to be angry with you anyway." She returned her gaze back to Ruby, after having gone back to watch the sky. "You still look and sound the same. I really, really liked 1A3G. I was worried you might have been completely different from her when you became yourself again, but it sounds like you and her aren't that different after all now. Maybe we could even do some things we never got to do before, like visit the ocean. Or maybe you can use what you know to teach me how to fight."
"I still want to do all that stuff! And - just - um... remember, I wasn't really 1A3G. I just had some of her personality." Ruby gently reminds her with a twinge of emotion, but she leaves it there.
"But we can definitely go to the ocean, or - I mean, I don't know a lot about Lapis', but we could definitely find out, and we can look into the corruption too. But I want to make sure I'm there by your side for as much of it as I can, and... um, as much of it as you'll allow, I guess." Ruby said, quietly, and a little nervously. It was clear she wasn't 100% whether what she was saying was right, or how Lapis really felt.
"There's a lot I could tell you about Lapis Lazulis, but I guess if we're talking about powers or combat then not a lot of that matters for me, since I can't do a lot of what they're supposed to do. But we like water, since that's what we control. We like flying, since that's what we do. We like being alone, since we usually are." She paused after that, considering her words. "Well... I used to like being alone. Now I don't really like it as much. That's why I'm happy to know you're still going to be here." She smiled again, then sat up. "We should go do something. We could go visit that arena in the clouds, or maybe the ocean, or we could find a spot to build a house out of trees." She glanced up in thought. "Or we could go find Para, or we could collect animals, or we could close our eyes and walk in one direction until we end up in a place we've never been before..."
Ruby smiled at these many possibilities, nodding some. "I want to do any of those - or all of those. Should we just go in order? Or is there one that you like more than the others? I think probably we should talk to Para last, since we sort of... probably talked to her a lot recently. I think it'd be great to go see the arena in the clouds - though I don't know what we would do there. Maybe fight? Just like a play fight? Or train. We could collect animals, but I don't know how to do that, or if Mr... D... Don..." She must have forgotten. "Um, I don't know if the human in charge of our house would like there being a lot of animals in there. He seems like he might get mad about a lot of minor stuff."
"I guess we could go to the sky arena. I still know the way there, but I don't know how we would get you up there. I know there's a warp pad to take us there, but... I don't know where to find a warp pad without having to cross the ocean." She furrowed her brow, pulling her hands up to rest behind her head. She was now musing to herself as much as she was to Ruby. "Even if we found one, I wouldn't know how to use it. I've only used one once, and that was with Ice who knew how to use it. We could fly. You could grab my legs and I could carry you there, but the old Ruby didn't like flying if I remember correctly."
"Oh, I know how to use a warp pad." Ruby said, smiling. "In fact - I think the me I invented probably knew how to use a warp pad too. It's hard to forget." She paused, thinking. "But there has to be a closer warp pad. Wait!" Ruby sat straight up.
"What about the one the Crystal Gems have? When I left that note for Para - I could have sworn - I thought I saw, or maybe I heard - a warp pad." She looked over to Lapis. "Of course, if we went over there we'd have to deal with the same sort of thing... if we ran into a Crystal Gem that wasn't Para, we'd have to explain our situation all over again."
Lapis shook her head. "No, I don't think we would have to worry about meeting a Crystal Gem and not Para. I know a few Crystal Gems now, even the leader. If we met Light Mocha Pearl, Moonstone, or Variscite at their temple, I think they would let us in to use their warp pad. I haven't seen any of those gems commit atrocities yet—they're friends." She paused. "Well... maybe not Moonstone these days. I think I made them upset the last time we talked, and I haven't seem them since. But anyway, I think if we said to them 'Hello! We are Ruby and Lapis. We aren't Homeworld spies. Can we use your warp pad to go train at the flying arena?' Then they might let us." She nodded to herself.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
