Quote: "Do not fear the truth, do not fear that I will bring something horrible... for what I bring in actuality is your redemption - and for that you should be much more afraid of."
Name: Obsidian
Nickname: 'Shadowreaper'
Appeared Gender: Male
Appeared Age: Early twenties
Gemstone: Obsidian [Rhombus pointed upwards] (Black, featureless stone which reflects light quite well.)
Gemstone Location: Back
Faction: Neither - has forsaken both for the time being
Corrupted: Yes, very much so
Corruption Appearance: (Credit to Blizzard Entertainment)
Personality: Obsidian, having gone understandably mad from corruption, has had his mind twisted to the point where he now sees corruption as a cure - a good thing that will help all Gems truly reach the life they are meant for. This leads to him fanatically preaching about the righteousness of corruption to all 'heretics' (uncorrupted Gems) though he will rarely, if ever, violently force anything upon them. Along with this attitude, he had a bit of a personality warp - sometimes switching from a devoted cultist to a pun-making cuddly fuzzball. In short - everything he does it highly unpredictable save for his devotion to corruption itself. His attitude to Homeworld is mostly neutral, though he dislikes the Diamonds who see corrupted Gems as 'infected' and 'lower forms of life', and he will not seek to actively provoke or disrupt their activities. He is far more distrusting and sporadic when interacting with the Crystal Gems, who have been shown to poof and bubble corrupted Gems for their own 'safety' - and he sees this as misguided and an act of heresy. When coming into contact with a human, Obsidian tends to act a bit different than expected - reacting more with curiosity and a need to protect them over anything else. If given the opportunity, he will excitably explain to them about what he is - and how Earth's gift of corruption has helped him immensely.
Likes: Corruption | Corrupted Gems | Spreading the Faith | Aggravating the Crystal Gems | Humans, as he sees the need to protect the weaker forms of life with 'the gift' | Eating
Dislikes: The Crystal Gems | Those who see corruption as bad | Uncorrupted Gems (though not to a great extent) |
Fears: Being 'cured' | Being bubbled | Fusions of uncorrupted Gems |
Weapon: One-handed axe
Ability 1: [Devotion] In return for being permanently locked out of a sane mind and true Gem form, Obsidian has attained the ability to remain at the cusp of being fully corrupted, keeping a twisted humanoid figure and the ability to summon his weapon in return. This is a constant struggle of will as Obsidian attempts to find a way to stabilize it for good.
Ability 2: [Shadowflames] As an Obsidian, this corrupted variant is still capable of summoning bouts of fire, the coloring taking on a purple tint. The fire is not extremely hot, though can eventually cause damage to a Gem form if it is unresistant to it. He is unable to summon extremely large bursts or more powerful variants, meaning the ability has no true cooldown.
Note: The flames created by this ability are more for flavor text and will hardly be used in combat. If this does get used, I'll leave it up to the other persons' discretion of how this affects them.
History: Once a standard important technician, fanatically devoted to Homeworld, Obsidian's exposure to corruption was perhaps more brutal than most. After only a hundred years of service, Obsidian as he was fell to the virus rather quickly - slowly morphing him into a vile and twisted being who turned his fanaticism for Homeworld into fanaticism for 'the gift' - preaching that he attainted true enlightenment from corruption and that all other Gems should too. Obsidian has only recently lost himself to corruption soon after the 'war' 'started'. With no allegiance to Homeworld or the Crystal Gems, Obsidian is for now content with wandering the Earth, hoping to spread the word to other Gems.
Character Arcs:
- Starts to interact with other Gems in his new form, adjusting to corruption
- Declines his loyalty to both the Crystal Gems and to Homeworld, making a small rational part of him realize he is alone
