Jazz finally got around to making her first visit to Empire City since she had run from Homeworld. Hopefully it would be a way to decompress after her previous mission. That had been quite stressful... And now that she was a Crystal Gem she could afford to be out and about more.
She made her way through the city, looking at all of the huge buildings. They reminded her of Homeworld a bit. The grandeur and size on display for all to see. It was also a bit daunting... She did not have much experience with humans, so she would need to be careful how she acts around them. Maybe she would run into another gem that could show her the ropes?
In the mean time, she stopped at a coffee shop to take a seat for a bit.
Ame stood at the counter, glancing around at the menu. She wasn't sure what all these fancy chalk-written words meant, but she had managed to learn how to get the humans to give her something in exchange for the strange "money" that she was suppose to give them. The idea of compensation was an odd one for her; after all, she was given everything she needed for thirty or so years by the Diamonds. However, she had a wad of bills in her large palm, and her grasp on the concept of coffee was becoming stronger with each escapade around Empire City she was allowed to have. "Erm, gimme a...large...mocha...chai...latte?" Her brow quirked and she rubbed her chin, hoping she had said all that right.
The human behind the counter shook her head,"You mean venti. Your venti mocha chai latte will come to 7.24. Name?" Ame's brows shot up as she heard the price, it seemed a little high compared to the last cafe mocha she had managed to buy. Nonetheless she scratched her head and threw the wad of money on the counter. The barista stared at the wad, her eyes flicked up to Ame's, then she took it and counted out the change.
"Put me down as Ame," She said cheerfully as the barista handed her change back, which was most of the wad she had already set down. She swiveled to go look for a spot to sit while she waited for her venti mocha chai latte, but her eyes immediately snagged onto someone who was clearly a gem-- a Jasper at that. She halted up, wondering whether this gem was loyal to Homeworld, or the Crystal Gems.
Ame herself was dressed in Adidas slacks, and a jersey with the number six on the back with sandals, attempting to seem more human than gem, but she figured this jasper would notice what she really was. 6UE stepped up to the Jasper, scratching the back of her head as she spoke,"Uh, hey, you new around here?"

Jazz looked around the shop a bit. It looked nice enough, though she was not sure what exactly the atmosphere is. Well she could at least spend a few minutes in here before looking for a gem.
Speaking of which, a gem started to walk up to her. They looked like an Amethyst, but they were dressed in a strange outfit. It looked similar to what humans wear sometimes.
"Hi, and yeah I have not been to this shop, or this city for that matter, before. You look like you have been here a quite a few times though." Jazz says to the new gem. She had to be careful, this gem was not acting like a Homeworld gem but she can never be sure.
She smiled and nodded as the jasper finished speaking. The soldier had to stifle her impulse to give the fellow warrior a Homeworld Diamond salute; it was a stinging reminder of the fact that she had left it all behind. Her eyes flicked away for a moment, then back to the gem she was speaking to,"I've been around the block a few times," She quoted a human she'd heard say something similar, even though the phrase felt unnatural for her to utter,"Gives me a lot to do since...uhm..." Ame wasn't quite ready to reveal that she had rebelled just yet. She didn't know this gem, she could be on anyone's side.
"Ame?" The barista called as she put the top onto Amethyst's newly made, multilayered drink. She was relieved to have an excuse to end that trail of conversation, and got up to get her drink. When the soldier came back, she was ready to learn more about this mysterious jasper who had stumbled upon her by chance.
"You ever try this stuff? It's really weird," She chuckled, and tore the lid off of her cup and waggled it around,"You don't wanna try this part, trust me-- it's gross-- but the stuff inside, it's something else," The mocha-chai-latte was topped with delicate whipped cream, which Ame brought to her lips and slurped at. As the drink hit her taste buds, her eyes lit up, and she smiled,"Each time I get something different, and each one is just so...so weird!"

Jazz looked at the drink. She knew it was coffee but she did not know anything else about it. It looked interesting. Though she had never had coffee herself, she saw humans enjoying it. There had to be a reason for that. Humans were weird, indeed.
"Humans do make very strange things. I do not understand their obsession with food and drinks however. It seems like they always have something more complicated because it 'tastes better.'Anyhow, what do you usually do when in town?" Jazz asked the amethyst. She was curious still which side this gem was on, but as always, she was willing to be civil until the gem decided to be hostile. Hopefully it would not come to that. She wanted to enjoy her time in the city.
She shrugged and took another swig of her drink,"I think humans need this stuff to live, which ain't too bad if it tastes like this," She chuckled, and stared down at the sugary coffee-tea hybrid she had swirling in the cup; for her it was a simple, delightful novelty, she couldn't imagine having to tote a cup of this all the time just to keep going.
She glanced back up to the jasper to answer her question, indigo eyes bright as she recalled all the exciting adventures she'd been on so far,"I try to do something new each time I visit, but I usually hit up a cafe, a gym, maybe the ice-rink," She grinned,"I don't know all the rules, and they don't have gear that fits me ordered in yet, but hockey is pretty fun," The soldier gem leaned back in her chair, the metal tubing that it was constructed of creaked and bent as she did. She glanced around again, suddenly worried that a Homeworld loyalist might pounce on them at any moment before her eyes trailed back to the jasper. "So you're just here on leisure then? No, uh...missions to do or something like that?" Her voice lowered in volume, it was a wrap-around question, but she hoped the answer might shed some light into where this gem stood.
Jazz was not sure what hockey was, but it seemed that the activity was interesting if it was some kind of training or maybe a sport? She shook her head a little to herself.
"I am here on leisure. I am pretty free based on my work. I am used to wandering you could say. What about you? You seem like you would need a lot of free time to do all of the activities that you want to try." Jazz said while looking the amethyst over for any physical signs of her loyalty, an insignia or something of that nature. If this gem is not a Homeworld gem, there still might be a Homeworld gem around here some where. Though she hoped she could enjoy her time off.
It was a bit embarrassing to hear it out loud; free time wasn't exactly something most gems were given regularly by the Diamonds, but this was also an indication that this gem too was probably not totally with Homeworld law. Still, it was a gamble to say anything outright, they were entangled in a war after all.
She gave an awkward grin, but she felt safer now than she had moments ago; perhaps another rebel soldier would be able to understand her sentiments better than her fellows back at the building site,"Heh, well, you could say that I've got more free time than I should, that's for sure," She still spoke quietly, but she hoped that the words would give the jasper a bit of insight into her own standing,"Call me Ame, at least when I'm the only amethyst around," She chuckled, then paused, wondering how many other amethysts had rebelled-- what if she were the only one? That thought only made her more uneasy, so she took another sip of her drink. Then, she looked expectantly to the jasper, hoping she would introduce herself as well.
The amethyst looked worried, and her answer to the question seemed to indicate that she was either a rebel or a gem seeking some free time from a post. She could relax a little but she would not immediately give everything away.
"I prefer being called Jazz, but if you wish to be extremely formal 3EB works I guess. Though I have not used that designation in a long time." Jazz said in turn with the introduction she was given. "So what is hockey exactly? I have not heard of it before, but you seem excited for it. Besides that, you seem like a nice enough gem Ame and it is a pleasure to meet you." Maybe Ame would open up over time.
She smirked,"Likewise, Jazz," The amethyst answered in a cheery tone, and she took a second to finish off her beverage. It had been a complete surprise to see this gem here, but if the two of them were in a similar situation, maybe they would have a similar appreciation for the things Empire City had to offer. As she thought about how she would answer Jazz's question about hockey, her head canted forward, and she clasped her hands. Her eyes flicked around as she recalled the first time she bumped into the hockey team, then all the times after that. A warm smile pulled across her expression and she turned back toward Jazz.
"Well, hockey is a human sport, not too much different than regular sparring, just extra rules," She grabbed a napkin, unfolded it onto the table, and placed some wadded up pieces of paper on one side, and a few bits of plastic on the other,"Everyone is on a flat ice bed, sliding around on special boots they call ice-skates. There are two side, two teams. Everyone on each time has a part to play in their team strategy, but they all have the main goal of getting the puck passed the other team's goalie, kind of like a door guard, but for a net," She placed a piece of pocket lint in between the teams she'd created on the napkin to represent the puck, and simulated a play, smacking the 'puck' to the other side of the make-shift rink,"But you can only hit the puck around with special sticks. If you try to pick it up they'll kick you out," She gave a grin; she'd been kicked off the ice a few times to have the rules pounded into her head, but things got confusing sometimes.
Amethyst shrugged,"To be honest, I think it's something you have to see for yourself a few times before it starts making sense. Like I said I don't even get it sometimes, but I'm sure the team wouldn't mind you coming to see them play tonight," That was the major reason Ame had come out to Empire city in the first place, and it would be nice to not be the only gem in the room.
She smiled back and listened to Ame's explanation about hockey. It sounded interesting enough. And that is how most human things worked, needing to be seen instead of described.
"I think that would be interesting to see, and something I would enjoy watching for a while." Jazz said thinking to herself how this would end up looking. "If you have an event in mind, I would be fine with watching a game." The game could be a fun new experience. And it would give her an opportunity to see more of the city and more human things.
"What would you want to do in the mean time? As I said, I have not been to Empire City before." Jazz asked.
Amethyst tapped her chin as she thought of something, then got up to go throw away the remainder of the drink she'd purchased; she knew from experience that the cup itself didn't taste all that interesting, and that most humans just threw these things away in a similar manner. The quartz rounded back to the table, and spoke as she stood looking at Jazz,"Well, did you want to get a drink before we leave and find something else to do? I might get another one honestly," She grinned, and fished around in her pocket to pull out the wad of cash she had,"I can give you some cash if you need it," It wasn't a big deal to her, as hard as it had been to find the money in the first place, she was beginning to gain a grasp on how to acquire the stuff without being yelled at by humans.
Ame sauntered up to the counter, and glanced over the menu as she considered what sort of drink she wanted,"This time, maybe a...tall caramel ma-cchi-ato?" She wasn't sure how to pronounce the words at all, so said them very slowly, before grinning at the barista. The cafe employee smiled back at her, and got to work on the drink after taking her total.
Jazz looked curiously at the drink and Ame. She had not been taught how money worked yet, so the concept of trading paper and coins for items seemed strange to her. However she did have her basic knowledge of Earth. She thought to herself what the gems may be able to do with her limited knowledge of human cities.
"I think I will be alright with out it. Thank you for offering however." Jazz responds. She watched Ame order a new drink; the way you had to order seemed so strange. She knew a decent amount about the language used in this area but the words used in these cafes was very different.
She listened as she waited for the barista to make her drink,"Well, you know, like I said there is all kinds of stuff to do. I mean, I don't even know everything there is to do here. How 'bout we go up to the park, and if we see anything interesting on the way we can stop to check it out?" She gave a lighthearted smile, and stuffed the money back into her pocket. Her caramel macchiato was finished and handed to her; the "tall" cup seemed rather short to her, she frowned at it for a moment, but trusted that the barista knew what she was doing, and turned to leave.
Amethyst made sure the jasper was still with her as she flung open the door, and the bell chimed,"The park is up this way," She gestured with a nod of her head into the right direction as she held her cup in one hand and the door in her other. Luckily, the plaza, as well as many businesses would be passed on the way, surely Jazz would spot something that would pique her interests-- if not, the park always had interesting things going on,"Humans do all kinds of things at the park. They run around in circles, they sit in the grass and eat food they brought with them, they bring animal friends to hang out with," Some of the things they did were downright inexplicable, but she was determined to learn more about it,"I see them playing sports sometimes too, I'm not sure what the sports are though,"
She followed the other gem out of the shop. The city was huge, especially considering how humans build. It was less efficient than gems but that is what gave it the special appeal she admired. As the two gems walked around the city, Jazz saw a few interesting places. A few shops were selling different items than could be found in Beach City.
Three blocks from the cafe Jazz points to a shop, "The shop there looks interesting. It says International Foods." She wondered what that wound entail. She knew that there were more places in Earth that had humans, she just had not visited them yet. "Have you been in there before?" Jazz asks, as her amethyst guide said she had been a few places before.
