Ari's lip curled up as her goggles dialed in on what was going on right in front of the Crystal Gem temple. She didn't dare get any closer to see what this hologram was saying, but the fact that it looked conspicuously like the fabled Rose Quartz didn't bode well for Ari's hopes. For thousands of years, she had been able to stay just out of reach of both the rebels and Homeworld. However, there was so much activity in the sky that it was hard to say whether or not this would be the end of her quiet traipsing on the surface of this little known alien planet.
She knew she wasn't the only one; there were other gems like her in the world, gems who wanted to mind their own business, but who were assailed at every angle by overzealous Homeworld gems or flowery rebels who were getting in the way of plans. There would be other gems who would be interested in hearing that Rose Quartz had finally shown herself-- albeit in hologram form-- after years of being quiet. If that gem chose now to show herself, then that could only really mean one thing. Peace was over, and both sides of this very icy war were about to go up in flames.
Ari pulled up from the spot on the hill that she had hunkered down on, and began to head into town, toward her temporary hide out in the home of one of the humans who lived here. She kept her eyes peeled for other gems.
With knees tired of walking, Peridot was wandering through a cave far from the beach, heading to the ocean. After a while she ended up falling into the ocean and was taken away to the nearest beach. Exhausted and losing control to her alterego again, Peridot was about to give up, but when she saw how the same Temple she saw sometimes earlier was full of Gems, she was able to try once again, and since she was already there she assumed that were Rebels.
"Now, if i record correctly, that crowd are the ones that knows how freedom tastes like..." She sighed while remembering how annoying the Humans were on her conception, so she decided to interact with these Gems, trying to see what was going on, but it was no use, she couldn't tell what was happening there.
Before showing up, she saw one Gem far from these group, and stood still looking to both sides. Thinking wisely before acting, she decided to don't show up, after all with a Robonoid nearby the Gems could think she was the one that sent it, and what if the one far from the others wasn't the right to talk to, therefore alerting the others with more 'such' proof that Peridot did something against them.
"The brat taking over now would cause a catastrophe, i need to be cautious"
For whatever reason, the yellow gem had decided to stray near Beach City once more. She did not know what drew her near it. Maybe it was because it was the first place she had seen gems at in years. She has made friends here, but to her, it did not appear that none of these friends were present. In all honesty, it was the only place where she truly felt comfortable roaming around in her true form. At this moment, she was walking out of the Funland Arcade, hands full of tickets. Cat's Eye enjoyed this carefree life, free from any stress. She did not have to worry about Homeworld (though she has befriended a few Homeworld gems), nor did she have to worry about any rebels (she does not recall meeting anyone in that group). The tickets trailing behind her, she headed towards the amusement park she learned about recently.
However, something soon caught her eye. Near the beach, dark figures started to rush towards a structure, and they all gathered there. Curiosity getting the better of her, she abandoned her previous plans and decided to check it out. Shapeshifting into a metallic gold-colored dog, she dug a hole in the earth to store her tickets in, and then covered it up. Soon enough, she turned into a seagull and started to fly towards the ocean. Once she was at the sandy beach, she perched on a rock faraway enough that no one would really notice her, but close enough to observe what was going on.
Now that she could see the structure, it was evident that it was a temple of some kind. Depicted in the stone was a huge woman with quite a few pairs of arms. The figures she saw early were all colorful humanoids. Something flew over her head, and on that figure was the inevitable star most of the rebels wore. Now, she had gotten the horrible realization that these figures gathering at the beach were indeed, gems. Rebels, for that matter. The fear had unexpectedly caused her form to shapeshift back into her normal, humanoid form, and she stumbled to the ground with a muffled cry. She quickly got back up, sand covering her form.
Dashing behind the rock, she began to grow worried. Why were a bunch of gems gathering here now? Why have they been summoned here? Looking up, a massive hologram in the shape of a quartz was being projected. No doubt that this was Rose Quartz. Why must their base be here? Cat's Eye thought Beach City was a peaceful town, but now that she knew that the Crystal Gems gathered here, it was obviously not.
As Ari stepped down into town, shoulders hunched, she drew a piece of mint gum out of her pocket and popped it into her mouth. Sometimes, chewing on this stuff could help calm her nerves, but as she smacked away at the gum between her teeth, Ari found it impossible to shake this off. Beach City, where her temporary hideout was located, where one of her only trusted colleagues resided, was soon to be directly in cross-hairs of the overwhelming Homeworld military force. They would dig up every dissident gem in the area, and that meant she would have to vacate the premises immediately.
Though, while she was still up on the hill, she could see over the boardwalk, and noticed a couple of strange gems there. She almost tripped over her own gangling legs as she brought herself to a pause from her brisk walk, and allowed her binocular goggles to zoom in again. They didn't seem to be Crystal Gems, in fact the two of them seemed to be hiding from the rebels as much as Ari was herself. As much as she was a loner, Ari knew that it would be easier to do this with some help than on her own.
With some measure of caution, she walked until she made it to the beach, and tried to seem unassuming.
Peridot tried to focus, stopped talking with herself for a moment and sneaked to Beach City. On the way she noticed the same Gem she saw earlier on the beach. Peridot decided that if she risked with only one Gem, she could at least poof her and then walk away, but she couldn't risk go with the Rebels just like that, not after the recent events.
Approaching the odd silvery Gem, Peridot puts her hand on her own chest. Side effects of her equipment are happening again, so she just uses one of her Shoulder Spikes to heal her own Gem, piercing it and almost losing its form, but still walking towards the unknown Gem like it was nothing. She just needed allies at the moment, because if the Rebels were reunited, then maybe something big was about to happen, and as much she would love to stay out of the cross-fire, it could cause problems to the bystanders, and helping the others is still something that she can't help but do often.
Already near her, Peridot didn't know what to say, so as always too, improvised. "Heya... Are you from the... Crowd over there?" She pointed to the Temple far away. Playing dumb was one of her ways to stay away from trouble, but for this to work, she needed to play dumb, not be one, she ended up forgetting to shapeshift to not show her only Diamond Cutout, so no one could think she was aligned with Homeworld.
From behind her rock, something caught her eye. Giving a quick glance over there, she saw a familiar peridot strolling up to a silver-colored gem. Though she recognized the peridot as PR (or simply just Peridot, depending on what persona she took on), though she had never seen the silver gem before. She looked back over at the crowd of rebels. Even though the hologram had disappeared by now, they remained, conversing among themselves. She then looked down at the own diamond on her chest. If they saw her, they would probably shatter her on sight! This fear is what caused her to run farther away from the rebels. Perhaps she could try camouflage? Shapeshifting into a crab, she thought she blended into the sand well. Well, except for the gem on her back, but no one would notice that, would they?
Still in the form of a crab, she decided to scramble over to the two gems, hiding behind the peridot to listen in on their conversation. She could easily turn invisible, but she thought that it would be a waste of energy to do so now. She sat down, hoping the two would think she was simply part of the terrain. Still, Cat's Eye was nervous. What would happen if she was caught by one of them? Would they shatter her too?
During the walk she had lost sight of the gems she had spotted, and for moment Ari considered that she might be seeing things. After all, she hadn't felt this uncomfortable since she ran from Homeworld's Earth based quarantined penitentiary thousands of years ago. Jitters wracked the wispy gem's form as she continued to gnaw her gum, until she was on the beach, and carefully scanned the area for other gems or gemkind technology.
Ari had been glaring off toward the Crystal Gem temple when the voice of a peridot sent shivers racing up her nape. Her arms flew up out of her pockets, sand dashed up as she swiveled her stance. Her head swung around so fast that the gum she had been chewing slapped into the back of her throat-- Ari gagged until the gnawed up piece of rubber flew out of her mouth and into the sand. Her eyes shot up to the peridot, and her eyes focused onto the Diamond insignia on the gem's uniform. She cleared her throat, and straightened her back. Her opaque, mirror-like goggles remained active, covering half of her expression, but the corner of her lip turned downward slightly.
"No ma'am, not this gem," She spoke hoarsely as she pointed toward herself, and forced a smile onto her expression, though it seemed to be quite a bit of effort to get the corners of her lips to raise. As she looked at the peridot, a skittering creature seemed to sneak up behind the green gem,"Whoa-- look out, those things have nasty claws," She pointed toward the crab, and took a few steps back before she spotted the gem glinting on it, and grimaced; was this an ambush capture team? Would this be the end of the line for her freedom on Earth?
Hearing that she wasn't from the Crystal Gems was relieving and worrying at the same time, but Peridot was starting to lose her patience, although she kept it together so she could achieve what she needed. She thought on so many plans to execute on the moment, but the one she chose was quite intriguing.
Peridot gave control intentionally to her alterego, planning on taking over the time she wanted while obtaining information that would be harder for her to get. But with a naive and pure personality like her alterego, she could either be made a fool or gain information to use against them when Peridot took control over again.
"Oh... Good... Oh! Good! Right, right... Name's PR, i would like to join that group but i'm afraid to harm them, afterall they protect this Planet, you like being free here too right?" She asked nervously while almost stepping on the crab. She let a little yell come out when she does that. She takes the crab and looks onto its Gem. "You okay little buddy?" Peridot was disgusted inside from what was going on but she kept holding on to achieve knowledge and power.
Instinctively, Cat's Eye moved out of the way when PR took a step backwards. She almost took offense to the silver gem's statement on crabs. While it did have truth to them, she thought that crabs could actually be pretty nice. To be fair, she never really had any run-ins with them, so she did not have an opinion on them. Noticing the grimace on her face, the yellow gem pondered on running away, but the peridot picked her up before could complete that thought. She let out a startled cry when she did so, but her main focus was on keeping her form as a crab.
However, quickly was that focused shattered. She almost immediately shapeshifted back into her normal form once she was secured in the green gem's hands, and now, Cat's Eye was being carried in her arms. A slight blush came across her face, but she quickly shook it off and got back on her feet. She shifted her position to in front of the two gems, nervousness apparent in her eyes. She knew PR; she was not aligned with the Diamonds as far as she knew. The silver gem, on the other, was not a Crystal Gem, though she could not tell if she was a Homeworld gem. Still, wariness remained around unfamiliar gems.
"Um..." She trailed off, biting her lip. Her mouth then curled into an awkward smile when she continued, "...Hi?" Cat's Eye gulped. "Y-You aren't with Homeworld, are you?" she then asked to the silver gem. She did not think so, but she might as well ask. "I swear I'm not with them," she quickly added with a frantic gesture.
The arsenic technician found herself a bit befuddled by the fellow technician's words, a brow raised underneath her goggles, but she stayed on alert-- especially as the supposed crab spontaneously reverted to her gem form. Ari's hands flew up into fists as her feet slid in the sand, pointed toward the other gems in a southpaw stance, and tucked her head slightly under her shoulders to protect her gemstone. Though even as she seemed ready to throw out some martial arts moves, Ari knew full well that her twiggy form wouldn't last long in a fight against an experienced combatant.
Then, the gem surprised her. This model of gem (who she was sure was some kind of quartz) wasn't one she was very familiar with, but it was clear this wasn't some ambush warrior, not with those pungent nerves. It seemed the three gems were stymied in a stand-off about allegiance. Not Crystal Gem, and not Homeworld. Her eyes darted between the two gems, and her stance relaxed. She let out a short laugh, mostly out of relief, but also at herself for getting so worked up before she even knew what was going on. "Usually I keep my cool better than that," She said in an amused tone, one corner of her mouth drawing up in a grin as she looked between the two others. "I'm not Homeworld, no, and from the sounds of things you two aren't either," She took a wild guess, and stuffed her hands in her pockets with a shrug,"I'm here to survey the situation, as it were...seems like both sides are getting riled up, that's no good..." Again the ancient arsenic peered over to the Crystal Gem temple.
"C-Cat's Eye! You're here..." PR wide opened her eyes to see if she wasn't mistaking for some other Gem. She got a little dizzy after that but recovered fast, looking to the Silver Gem eyes, following where she was looking. But when she realized it was the Temple, PR looked away, afraid of causing trouble there as Peridot.
Since the day she lost her Hand Limb Enhancers, she got used to feel all the things around, and now that she felt Cat's Eye hair, she wanted to feel her spiky hair again for some reason, but she wouldn't bother her with that, also this would probably be embarrassing even for PR.
When the Silver Gem finished talking, PR just wanted to know who she was at least. "Uh... Do you have a nam-? Sorry, How can i call you? You're a new face to me" She smiled.
Cat's Eye let out a sigh of relief when hearing that the silver gem was not affiliated with Homeworld in any way, shape or form. However, she spoke to PR first. "Yep, it's me." She gave a more confident smile this time around, along with a thumbs-up. "Still short, I see," she commented, lowering her arm and then snickering a little bit. Considering the scrawny woman in front of her's statements now, she turned her head around to glance at the Crystal Gem's base. The rebels were still there, huddling around the stone statue. She then frowned. The yellow gem still did not understand why they protected Earth at all. Despite what she had seen on her journeys, she still loathed the planet ever-so-slightly. Judging by what PR said eariler, the peridot would like to join that group to protect her reason. It was a valid reason, but Cat's Eye, on the other hand, definitely did not want to stay on Earth forever. As long as Homeworld kept their hands off of her, she would be free to go wherever she pleased.
She turned her attention back to the silver gem to reply to her statements. Cat's Eye then stepped next to the peridot and threw an arm around her shoulder. "No need to worry; PR's my friend." She winked, mouth forming a smirk. "Trust me, she's not with Homeworld either." She still was not sure if the silver gem was entirely convinced, but judging by the look on her face, she will assume that she is unless stated otherwise. Taking her hand of PR, she then changed the subject to respond to other topics.
"Are you sure Homeworld's getting involved in this too?" She scratched her head, now wearing a neutral expression. "I know the Crystal Gems are planning something, but... it might not have anything to do with Homeworld." As soon as she finished, she realized how contradictory the last statement was. "Okay, they probably are, but I still don't think Homeworld's going to do anything," she corrected. Cat's Eye did not know how much truth her statement held in regards to outside affairs, only basing them on what little she knew about the rebellion in the first place.
Soon she realized these gems might have been in cahoots after all, but they weren't with either of the major factions, and that made them okay in Ari's book. Though, at being asked for her name, the gem had to suppress a sneer, making it into something more like a weak smirk. Giving out her name on demand wasn't something she particularly enjoyed, as it reminded her of many unpleasant interactions with zealous Homeworlders. Though, after all, this was why she had taken on an inconspicuous human label to replace her Diamond-made designation. When the other gem began to speak, she wasn't too inclined to trust her either, but for the moment these seemed to be the only two gems in the area that she could talk about this with.
"Trust is a funny thing, but I'll tell ya a bit about myself," Ari began after Cat's Eye was finished speaking. The gem's face was still obscured by her opaque goggles as she looked between the two. She glanced down to her feet, looking into the sand as a silent breeze carried through her wiry, dark hair. "I worked under Yellow Diamond's regime for...longer than I can remember. I was there from the beginning. Then...I started working under other regimes, human ones, and I've been called Ari ever since," Her thin voice carried lightly, muted by the water that washed the shore,"Empires are all pretty much the same." She added with a solemn, low timbre. Ari had to stop herself from going on before she would begin to ramble about her distaste for imperious endeavors, and drew her hand out of her pocket to tap the side of her gem; the goggles disappeared, and she pulled her head up, piercing yellow eyes glared toward the other gems, a radioactive glow revealed in the dim evening light.
"I'm gonna have to ask you to trust me when I say that Homeworld isn't going to stand by. There's a reason Rose Quartz chose now to reach out to her underlings-- and they are underlings, no matter what fluff they talk about regarding freedom," Now a true sneer took hold of Ari's expression. "Like I said, trust is funny-- I guess you could say I'm not really off-the-hook from Homeworld, so I have some contacts I've maintained over the years. My sources warned me that the Diamonds themselves have arrived in the solar system, and by now they're probably up on the base as we speak. Why would all the Diamonds show up in one place?" Her brow raised, the question was rhetorical-- she already knew.
PR chuckled a bit with a slightly blush when Cat's Eye mentioned her size again. "I won't grow, you know? Stop picking on me" she gave a open smile at Cat's Eye to reassure that she was okay with it. But when the silver Gem started to talk, as long as she talked, PR's smile kept fading slowly. And when she finished the speech, PR finally was worried enough to can't talk anymore, she got afraid of a possible war, now that it couldn't get away from her head, she started to sweat and sat down on the sand.
She kept looking at them, and now she was more afraid of even looking to the Temple. Shaking out of fear, but she still refused to run away. She tried to stay calm, but a war is against everything she stands for, she just wanted to unite them, but what if it were impossible? Peridot felt an opportunity to take over through PR's weakness, but she was so shocked that even for a personality transition happen, would happen slowly this time. Now the riddle she must solve is how to stay neutral without running away. PR kept trying to get up but it was no use, even when she tried to not think about the Diamond Authority.
Cat's Eye gazed at Ari with awe and curiosity as she told her tale. "Other regimes? By the stars, you must be ancient!" she exclaimed. The yellow gem was a little disappointed she did not continue to talk about herself more, but then again, the silver gem was a stranger to her. It was nice to know her name at last. She continued to listen intently as Ari spoke about Homeworld, the gem grew increasingly worried. If all of the Diamonds were at Earth's moon base, then that could spell trouble for them all, both Crystal Gems and gems like the three present here. She did not want to run--she wanted to fight Homeworld gems as soon as they landed on Earth--but something told her she would be no match against them. Since PR did not speak again, she figured it was her turn to carry the conversation.
"...I guess you're right, Ari," she concluded. She turned around to look up at the sky. She could not see the moon, but based on what the silver gem told her, something was going on there at this very moment. She started to tap her foot, a little anxious. If they do not leave immediately, they could get caught up in Homeworld's fire. "Shouldn't we get away from here, then?" She then pointed at the sky. "If Homeworld comes down with their ships, they could shatter us in an instant!" It was the only logical solution she could think of; all the Crystal Gems were huddled in one place, after all. "I-I don't want to stay in Beach City now..."

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’.
