With a foot slammed on the accelerator, the pickup roared and sputtered loudly, however despite Pink’s clenched face and overall nervousness that it’ll move forward, she found when she opened her singular eye with a blink that the vehicle hadn’t moved, her foot releasing the accelerator as she looked at the vehicle’s instruments for something wrong, while the pickup’s roar came to a subtle hum. Oh. Pink had been completely oblivious to the stick-shift in her attempts to crank and run the vehicle, causing her to adjust herself as the cheers of her family could be heard outside the car, the morning light tipping over the house onto Pink’s new vehicle. With a subtle hum of her own and the sucking in of her lips, she placed her hand delicately onto the stick-shift while her foot held the break heavily, putting the pickup into gear as she released the break and pressed the accelerator with a slam once again, causing the vehicle to lurch backward as she switched her hand onto the wheel and gained control of the now speeding vehicle, approaching the gray pavement with clenched teeth.
However, within seconds Pink released some of the pressure on the accelerator, the vehicle slowing just enough to make a wide turn onto the pavement as she then accelerated forward, coming to a constant speed as the cheers and goodbyes of her family drained from her gem, the distance between her and the former home and family growing with every second. Heh, what a strange concept; she thought as her face relaxed, that ‘family’ thing. She was told that a family was something that consisted of several people who were ‘related’ to each other, whatever that means. Though, maybe she should’ve stayed longer to have found out… No, Pink shook her head, dismissing the thought. There wasn’t any way she could’ve, she was tired of feeling afraid, especially with the escape pod being in close proximity to the farm. It was better for both her and them that she left.
Though I really wish I could’ve stayed.
However, she was her own gem now, driving her own vehicle, and making her own way in this organic world, despite only being a thousand years old. However, she wondered where she was going now, since as a defective pearl, she had no place on this planet, much less on Homeworld. What was a pearl like her supposed to do? Join the rebellion? Pink barely had anything regarding combat experience, despite having her own weaponry. Eh, maybe she’ll join the rebellion when she feels better about her combat ability, maybe. Besides, a pearl, fighting? She’d surely be laughed at and made fun of for even trying…
Pink let out a sigh, sucking in her lip as she looked away from the road, her head tipping forward as she embarrassingly thought of the very thing happening. How horrible, she shouldn’t even dare to learn how to sword-fight.
Regarding that, she let out a heavy sign one more time, turning her head back and focusing on the road carefully as she maintained a constant speed. It was a horrible thing leaving Homeworld, threatening her- no, the Morganite, and now leaving her family to escape the possible punishment of her betrayal. How much more running would she have to do? Where was her escape in all this, why couldn’t she be the perfect pearl…? Her vehicle began to slow, her mind wandering across the several reasons as her foot lightened up on the gas, leaning back against her seat. She had done her best, but that was worthless compared to other pearls, she was worthless- No, stop, you’re your own gem, you can be whatever you want whenever you want; she tried to reassure herself, gripping the steering wheel harder.
But it only reminded her that pearls aren’t supposed to build, pearls aren’t supposed to be their own gem… If she wasn’t everything a pearl is, then what was she..?
Pink’s gem began to ache, her eye beginning to water. She couldn’t do anything after this, she could only drive, and once she was out of fuel… That was it. Pink began to pull over to the side of the road, eventually coming to a full stop before she reluctantly put the pickup into park. It was too late to go back now, already several miles from her former home. But she needed to decide where she was going now, if she’d quit running and join the rebellion, or try to live a normal human’s life without being influenced by gem culture, or even something else entirely.
And let’s face it, she couldn’t play human, she was too pink to even consider it.
Pink exited out of the vehicle, one hand on the door while the other went to grasp against her scar protectively.
