Name: Dumortierite, though just calling her "Dumo" works as well.
Apparent Gender: Female
Apparent Age: 20
Actual Age: Mid lo late 1k
Gemstone: Dumortierite Facet-2B Cut-1G
Gemstone Location: Between the shoulder blades and neck, just about where the 7th cervical vertebrae can be found.
Faction: Homeworld
Corrupted: Not as of yet.
Appearance: Just a bit taller than 6 ft, Dumo is far taller than she really needs to be. Her body is light cyan and much more lithe than one might expect, such that comparing her body to that of a Quartz is in a similar vein to comparing a swimmer to a bodybuilder. The pads of her feet and the palms of her hands are teal, and her arms are (by design) a bit longer than the average, where a normal persons hands reach about to the beginning of their thigh her own hands rest at about knee height.
Her hair is ultramarine blue that transitions at the very ends to prussian blue. The luscious locks on this rock are considerably tame despite their length and abundance, they fall down her back in waves and curl upwards at the end. The upward curl of her hair is the only thing keeping her eyes from being covered.
The eyes that peer from beneath her bangs are large, baleful, and slate blue. The accompanying face is a short ovaloid adorned with a short sort of pearl-like nose. Her mouth is filled with sharp canine-style teeth, so when she smiles she endeavors to keep her chompers hidden behind her wide lips.
She wears a blue diamond jumpsuit with long sleeves and neglects to equip any sort of footwear. Her appearance is often compromised by dirt and crushed plant fiber as per the nature of her job.
Personality: Dumo is a devoted worker, though she doesn't seem to put much thought into how she acts on the daily her performance when working is somewhat overenthusiastic even for a Homeworlder.
When not putting her nose to the floor (literally) at work she is often cleaning herself of the accumulated filth on her body, even when she is perfectly clean she derives a special happiness from polishing her gem and cleaning her form. This enjoyment of cleaning is extended beyond her physical self, one of her favorite pastimes when not on duty is watching the closest Pearl clean. However much she might enjoy cleanliness she certainly doesn't seem to fear any form of dirt, those who work with her have complained in the past about her willingness to lead them through distasteful areas.
Dumo can, depending on the situation, come off as far too brazen or too laid back. She's extremely opinionated and loves participating in arguments to the point that she may be occasionally caught riling up anyone she thinks she can get away with riling up, she has been known to be contrary just for the sake of being contrary. She has no filter, so she's quite lucky that all of her so-far expressed views have been in line with Homeworlds. When her temper is truly riled up she is extremely vitriolic, rabid even. She often behaves in this acidic manner when scared or threatened.
She does know very well when her childish behavior can’t be tolerated, at times like those she supresses herself and embraces the role of a soldier. After all, she’s been in her share of fights.
Likes/Dislikes:
+ Beauty: She often behaves better for superiors based on their appearance, not a conscious decision but still pertinent.
+ Rubies: She and the little fireballs tend to get along well enough after they're done arguing for no reason.
+ Fusions: Dumo is the proud owner of an unhealthy fascination. When idly cleaning herself she finds her mind drifting to this topic very often and her views on it are vacillating and confused.
+ Dancing: She's not great, but at least she puts energy into it.
+ Balanced Battles: She loves the struggle of a balanced fight, something about it is more viscerally exciting than just bashing on someone weaker. She of course prefers it to just getting curb-stomped herself as well.
+ Her Job: She was made to be a tracker and derives immense joy from performing this role.
- Winning Arguments: More like she's disappointed when she wins, she sees herself as a rather weak reasoner and gets a kick out of being proven wrong. Like she's somehow been proven right. This also stems from a love of learning, she won't learn anything new from an argument she wins.
- Agates: Dumo doesn't need to be beaten into doing her job. She feels that they can be unnecessarily cruel at times, though usually she'll brush it off with a "It's what the diamonds designed them to do, can't blame them for that."
- Subtle and Devious attitudes: She has trouble discerning the lies of a clever person with truth, and tends to begin spewing vitriol when she feels as if she's been deceived.
- Bright Light: She spends so much time under the canopy that is her hair that when confronted with bright lights she always has to squint and adjust for a little longer than everyone else.
Fears:
- Being deprived of her senses: She needs those.
- The Diamonds: Beautiful but terrifying, the diamonds are a fear and inspiration.
- Magma/Lava: Overwhelming heat damages her form and can force her SGS ability to stop working or weaken it.
- FTL: Dumo hates using faster-than-light travel, it makes her unusually terrified. She's extremely reluctant to get on any kind of ship and even flinches when going through a warp pad.
Weapons: Gauntlets: These prussian-blue gauntlets cover from the elbow to the wrist as well as the back of the hand, their design makes them basically useless as a “Weapon” but they’re certainly useful for defending.
Ability 1: Superior Gripping Surface: The teal pads on her hands and feet can grip any surface they touch. They can be used to climb up sheer surfaces and on ceilings, and to grip onto items or people. In terms of physical force if Dumo doesn’t want to let go of something nothing short of cutting her hand off will get the gripped item out of her mitts, she can hold onto surfaces perfectly fine in anything short of gale force winds and even then it might not be enough to shake her off. These gripping pads become less effective in excessive heat.
(Gripping pads last 2 posts when attached to a living target who is trying to escape them, gripping pads last 2 posts when attached to an excessively hot target, and gripping pads only last 1 post when attached to a living target who is producing excessive heat.)
(Cooldown for this ability is substantial if she is shaken off, 2 posts for her pads to re-adjust after being forced off something, 1 post if she fell off just from heat, 1 post if it was heat and being forced off (ironically the heat helps her pads re-adjust faster.))
Ability 2: Crunch Processing: Dumo has a deeply enhanced sense of taste and smell, she can practically tell colors apart with a sniff or a lick. Extremely useful when tracking as most gems produce little to no scent, a side effect to being made of light. When she eats something she can tell you practically every material present in it.
Fusions: None as of yet.
History: Dumo has loved her job since the day she was formed, that being “fetch”. For multiple hundred years she has rushed about in her mission of finding whatever it is any superior wants her to find, be it a material or a gem. She spent a majority of her time performing this function, thankfully it afforded her some level of freedom while she performed it. She’s spent a lot of time cultivating a personality that doesn’t mesh quite perfectly with homeworld as a result.
It was only quite recently that Dumo was shipped off to earth. She was basically a mail carrier afterall so it hadn’t crossed many minds that she would even be useful in this stage. She had always been good at fetching things though, so her superiors figured that it wouldn’t be a waste of resources to send her to the planet of rebellion. Her current orders are simple: “Fetch a member of the rebellion.”
Character Arcs:
- Go, fetch!: Dumo is sent to earth under orders to retrieve and bring back a member of the rebellion, she had been given a communicator and orders to only use the communicator once she is certain she has a rebellion member in her custody.
- Scalding Words: Dumo begins to confront her views on the Crystal Gems, she’s smart enough to know it won’t be black-and-white and in trying to chase them around has begun to understand what they do and why they do it. She begins to grate on the nerves of more loyal Homeworlders she encounters because of this.
- I'm not sure: I'm not totally sure what will happen at this point. Course, most of this depends on her interactions anyway so, disclaimer, these planned plot points are subject to change.
