Howlite was having the weirdest day. He woke up in some cave in who knows where, completely by himself with no recollection of how he got there. Likely a drunken escapade followed by a blackout. What was really strange was everyone's behavior. People saw him on the street and stared at him as if hed been gone for ages even though it was most likely just a few days. What was wrong with these people? No telling. Howlite knew one thing for certain. He needed a drink. Badly. He reached for the flask he kept in his coat pocket. Gone. Must have fallen out somehow. Terrific. Could this day get any more ridiculous? Out of sheer boredom, he begun to hum Wade In The Water
Flurry was walking down the boardwalk. She was bringing snacks to a gathering of the crystal gems, it was the only thing that she could do for them that they really allowed. She was treated nicely, sure, but the gems didn't think anyone as small and innocent as flurry was ready for the war. Flurry didn't entirely disagree either, she could hardly make a gem weapon in the forge, even after a lot of practice. Still, she wasn't ready to give up her dream, even if it meant she'd have to be the snack delivery girl for a while longer. Even that, was a service to the crystal gems, she thought so at least. She was headed down the boardwalk, in a daze, imagining what it would be like to be able to fly like some gems she had met. She had a slow reaction, being in a daydream when she first saw him. The gem who had come from such a dark and terrible place, but had shown her nothing dark inside, was walking down the boardwalk, seemingly perplexed. Flurry dropped her snacks, wincing as she noticed a soda spill into the sand, forming a gelatinous mush. She quickly recovered and charged toward Howlite to leap and give him a lunging hug. "Howliiiite!" She wailed. "Where...where have you been!?" She asked, while hanging from him.
Howlite braced up as Flurry lunged into his body. Felt like a tackle. As if trying to pin him down or something. "Hey there slugger!" Then she asked where he'd been. "Sorry kiddo. Must have blacked out for a few days. Everyone has been acting so weird today." He hugged her tightly. "Sorry if I worried you. My phone must have been off or something. I should check it later today." He looked at those innocent, childlike eyes of hers and noticed something. Concern? Something was troubling her but what? "Something bothering you? Did one of the birds take your food again? I told you its ok to chase them off. They're birds". He couldn't understand it. Usually Flurry was this chipper little thing but something about her energy just felt off.
Flurry was shocked, her eyes widened and she froze for a minute. Then her brow furrowed with worry and a bit of irritation as she looked at him hard. Hadn't he been dead not long ago? His first line when they got back together was some comment about having a drink and the seagulls? Even someone with a warped sense of humor like Howlite definitely did would never act this way. "No Howlite! Now isn't the time for a joke! I really was worried you know, after what you said. You can't just say stuff like that...and then go missing for two years." She had tears pooling in her eyes when she looked back up at him. She tried to wipe her eyes a bit to see him more clearly. "Tell me where you've been, you've gotta take this seriously! I...I sure did."
He couldn't understand what she was getting angry for then she said it. 2 years? "Flurry that's impossible. I just woke up today. Last thing I remember was coming back to Earth, seeing Sulfur, and reuniting with..... oh no. Oh gosh Blu is gonna rip me apart when she learns I'm still alive!" He felt such sorrow. "Flurry I am so sorry but I dont have any answers. I just woke up in a hole somewhere." He wiped her tears. "I'm not leaving anymore ok? I'm a Crystal Gem now. We gotta stick together. Especially now." He took a deep breath. "2 years..... 2020? I'm gonna need a crash course of everything. Is my bar and hotel running smooth? Are the Broken Gems still around?" His eyes widened. "Is booze still legal?!"
Flurry hopped off of him and landed on the ground, putting a finger on her chin as she did while thinking. He wasn't faking it, Howlite wasn't that sort of gem. He really had forgot, although she wasn't sure why. "Uh...Im not sure about any of that stuff, I'm just glad you're back..." She said with a nod. "And uh, Im glad you want to fight on our side! I know you're just doing it for me, but I still really think you'll feel better knowing you're a crystal gem!"
She reached into her bag, and felt around. She had to scoot aside newer things she had acquired, a Yoyo, a baseball hat, a bag of pop rocks candy, and then finally she found and retrieved it. Her phone! She had kept it in good condition, after all she never really used it. The crystal gems didn't call her often. She held it out and played back the audio message that he left her. "If that doesn't help jog any memories, I don't know what will.."
The Voicemail played. Hey. It's Howlite. There's something I need to tell you. I'm dead by the time you hear this. My past has caught up to me and now I'm about to be tried then executed. So I leave this message as my last words to you. Thank you. Thank you for all you've done. You've cared for me since I got here. You've given me nothing but kindness. Even at times when I didn't deserve it. I can't believe this is goodbye. Flurry I want you to never give up. Cherish your life that you live. And if you're ever out there in battle, know that I'm always watching over you.
He hung his head. "I meant to come for you Flurry I swear. I was on Earth maybe a week. I crashed by the castle. Told Sulfur I was alive. Then I found Blu and told her my true feelings. Then here we are. In between is a complete blank. I dont understand how this could have happened." He started pacing in circles trying to figure out what to do. "2 years? This is.....this is crazy. Tell me everything going on with you"
"Well, other than you being gone, nothing really has changed. I've been trying to get better at yknow, fighting and all that stuff, but I was never made to do it anyway." She shrugged seeming not very bothered by this. "I'm gonna do something though, I heard healers are very rare among both sides! So, I've got to have a purpose somewhere!"
She looked back at him. "But enough about me, we need to be sure you totally okay! Is your gem alright? If you forgot everything for two years something bad might have happened to it! We both know it's, well, not in the best shape all the time. It's really possible that it's even more damaged!" She pointed at his gem. "Does it feel funny?"
Howlite smiled. "Of course you have a purpose. Keeping guys like me from dying from our own stupidity." She brought up his gemstone. "You know? It actually feels... fantastic. I havent felt like this in centuries." He started thinking about it. "Feels like so long ago. So unstable. But now, I feel great. I could wrestle a Quartz again I bet. I'll probably need that skill later." He smiled at his friend again. "You want to go do something? I apparently have 2 years worth of money savings and time needed with you." He opened his phone. Thousands of voice mails and texts. All from friends, employees, business partners, pretty much everybody Howlite ever spoke to left something. "That is a lot of messages.... any chance I could stay at your place until I figure out how to tell everyone I'm alive without forming an angry mob?"
"Well we could go like...hunt a corruption to bring it back to the temple...or-wait my place!?" She gasped. Flurry looked at him with the expression of one who was walking on eggshells. She tapped her foot as she tried to gather her words in the best way. "You see, it's not that I wouldn't totally welcome you back, but...well, I live in the temple now. That means that if you wanted to drop by, you'd have to like go into the temple. I think that the crystal gems would totally love you once they got to know you but...you know, You've been associated with a lot of really bad gems!"
Flurry folded her arms. "I just...dont know, I think it would be a bad idea!"
Howlite shrugged. "Eh you're probably right. At least not yet. Maybe some other time. I got that hotel not far from here. Ever been in a master suite? It's no magical temple that does stuff for you but it's pretty darn close. You can order all the treats you want." He felt a twinge of guilt when he realised how much work had to he done before he could be accepted into the group for real. He could count on one hand the people who accepted him as a Crystal and that was pretty generous because one was a fusion. He tried to go back to positive before Flurry picked up on it. "Oh I also got a pool installed if you're into that. Olympic-sized."
"Hotel...er..." Flurry paused. Maybe he still had a room there, but he did disappear without a trace. Would they really let him just...keep a room reserved for two years? She was pretty sure by now they would've cleared it out and given it to someone else. It would be an awkward day if her hunch was correct. She didn't want to bring this up if Howlite hadn't considered it already, but it was probably worth mentioning. "Er...Howlite." She said tentatively. "Do you think you still have that room? It has been two years after all, and I'm pretty sure the people who owned it didn't expect you to come back either." She paused to look at him oddly. "Uh, pardon me, but how did you get all the monies to afford a room so pricey?"
Howlite was planning to answer her question on the room when she dropped the big one. Where did Howlite make his money? Surely a little bar couldn't be worth that much? He took a gulp. "Well you see uh, it started when I sold a bunch of shards to buy the bar. Then I used said money to invest in trading, corporate stock, cryptocurrencies I've learned to pump and dump, and various other enterprises over time." He hoped all that complicated talk would not clue Flurry into the fact that 99.9% of Howlites resources were unstable at best and wildly illegal at worst. "I started with a tiny foundation and rapidly expanded. I may not be on Smoky Quartzs level quite yet but I'm pretty good."
"Sold, shards huh?" Flurry frowned and looked at the ground. She obviously didn't like the idea, he knew that. They had already talked about this, and anyone good natured like Flurry wouldn't approve of what was basically the gem equivalent of selling corpses. She looked back at him with an unhappy 'don't you do that again' sort of look. "Well just make sure that you're not relying on that anymore okay? That's...not ok to do."
She was still kind of quiet for a bit, even Flurry needed a moment when it was something this bad. "You're not super bad Howlite, you just have had a super bad life. From now on things are gonna be different!" She put her hands on her hips. "So, for now let's go to that hotel huh?"
Howlite sighed. "That was a long time ago Flurry. I ain't like that anymore." How many times must he prove himself to everybody else before they got it? After the long awkward silence she mentioned his past. Again. "Flurry.... I'd do anything for you you know that right? But that ain't why I joined the Crystal Gems. I deserve a bit more credit than that. I've wronged a lot of people and I'm trying to serve my sentence. One step at a time." When she mentioned the idea he nodded. As was tradition with their hangouts, he gripped Flurry and hoisted her onto his shoulders. Wow she felt even lighter than usual. Either she got smaller or whatever happened in that cave made him a little stronger. He walked to the hotel. It had a new name. The Golden Lion. The figureheads were changed. A banner hung from the top reading Under New Management. He owned that building maybe a month. Then lost it all. He just hung his head. "So much for a place of my own. No temple. No castle. No ship. Once again I am unrooted"

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
Orginal Opening Plot Here Thread That Changed Everything

*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
