The often mostly empty corridors of the medical centre were now filled with all sorts of sounds and voices. Many gems were just going through, minding their own business. In all of this mess, a certain gem couldn't possibly be heard.
A single Pearl was there as well, clearly not pleased with the gathering of such a big group. All of this was caused by the cleaning service which worked in several rooms at the same time. It was soon after the havoc caused by a corrupted Csarite gem. The whole place was meant to be inspected and crystal clear.
Melody avoided all sort of eye contact, but she knew that some gems saw her with a visible tear on her shawl. The last thing she wanted was to end up in a conversation about it or to catch a strange expression of some passerby. She noticed a mostly empty corridor and quickly went there to avoid all of this commotion.
The gem let out a sight of relief, she finally got a bit of peace. She turned her head to see a holographic map on one wall. How convenient, she thought. The map had most of the areas on all floors, some of them had different colours, the red ones representing the areas that were going through cleaning. Her eyes shifted to the floor with most rooms closed off to the gems that weren't part of the personnel. Cream scratched her chin, she wasn't exactly busy right now- and she hasn't been in those parts of the facility. Not only that, it would probably be mostly empty. With this in mind, she headed out to the nearby elevator.
"Swoosh." Melody parroted the sound the door of the elevator made. There was nothing special about the floor she ended up in as for now since it followed an identical design to that of the other floors. She went straight ahead to see what she might find. There were still some occasional gems, but it was nothing compared to the rest of the facility. As she wandered she looked around at the doors. At one point one door caught her attention. There was a thin layer of dust on the console next to it. Seemed like this room was mostly forgotten compared to other rooms. So much so that even the cleaning team didn't bother to touch it in a while.
She approached the console and blew on it to get rid of the dust before using it. She also noticed that the room was a storage unit. However, she had no clue what was actually stored in there. She then proceeded to enter the code to open the door.
The good door obeyed and opened itself after the command. Melody was met with complete darkness of the other room, she slowly went inside. However, she quickly heard something coming from a corridor. Surprised, the Pearl didn't think much about it before quickly closing the door. She wasn't doing anything illegal, but she was also not asked to wander around the facility either. She saw one of many Calcites on the other side, it seems that she wasn't spotted.
Melody looked around, even more dust, the room seemed to have been neglected for at least several dozen cycles. She was thinking about turning on the light. She could be spotted. She wondered again if she should fear someone finding her here. Being a Pearl of the manager had its perks. With that said, she also thought of the numerous yellow court gems that became a stable on the moon since the last conference. In theory, they worked under Euclase and were an extension of Pink court as for now. In practise, she never fully trusted Topaz guards.
After some thinking, she decided to not turn on the light, instead, she tried to make out what was in the room with little light she had from the corridor. It seemed that the room was filled with some sort of metallic containers. She approached one of them, but didn't even dare to touch it considering all of this dust. While it wasn't exactly easy to read what was written on it, she did manage to read out... "Sigma 1..." She looked around, there were tons of boxes like this one "This is all from Earth."
Memories flooded her mind, how could she forgot, she was there. During the evacuation gems would carry out everything they could in identical containers. It seemed that some must have ended up here on the moon before being locked and forgotten in this very room. She shook her head "It is just a storage, don't overthink this." She dusted away a small portion of the floor and knelt down. "I will just wait here until I will be able to come back to the reception." But her eyes moved to the chests again, she wonder what was saved from this forsaken planet, but it would be very un-perl like if she just went through things that don't belong to her.
The silence was nice, she didn't even hear anything coming from the corridor, not even the softest footsteps. "Hmm..." She smiled a bit as she looked around. "Nobody is present, nothing is happening." She looked at the door "I don't think anyone would even be able to hear me..." She said to herself, the room did seem like a perfect hiding place, but it wasn't like she had a reason to hide in the first place.
But she did like the silence.
"It is time to go." She stood up, she had been here long enough. She approached the door and was going to open it, but she stopped. Her gaze turned back to the empty room she still stood in. She touched her gemstone gently. She remembered how she used to record her Zircon's thoughts. It was just the two of them, but in reality, it was just her Zircon. She was there to record for her. At the end of the day, those recordings ended up being useless and forgotten. There were a few she would ask her to play back to her, but she wondered about most of them. They didn't have a use, they just stayed in her memory. She wondered, perhaps she just wanted to talk to herself. Say thought aloud to understand them better. Was that it? She wasn't sure.
She returned to her spot and knelt down again, she sit like that for a while without saying a word, but her gem eventually lightened up. Her eyes from the other hand became fully orange and data in gem code was flowing through them.

"I am starting to doubt this idea, I have no idea what to say."
long pause
"But somehow, I want to, I want to speak to myself. There is no particular reason for all of this. In fact, I think this recording will be one of many forgotten thoughts stored inside my gem. Just another part of the collection.
Perhaps there is more to all of this, though. Perhaps I believe that it will help me somehow. After all, truth can set you free, that is what she always used to say. And I would lie if I said that there are no conflicts inside me, I want to speak the truth, but I also want to keep it to myself.
It is not something I want to be pitied for. Nor is it something special, I secretly believe that all gems might feel this way from time to time. Especially now. The certain war, the corruption, the current events on the moon, rumours about a spy being among our crew.... it is a lot.
Not only that, there is me. I can't expect anyone to always be there for me, my case isn't special nor more important then anything else. But I can be here for myself. I am always me. I think that talking to myself will help me with those conflicts of mine. I believe that it will help me collect thoughts to understand them better... to understand me better.
And it is all mine, I can keep it all to myself. It is almost reassuring, I don't have to worry about gazes, judgement, pity, it can be just me- talking and being me. I think I kind of like it.
With this said, I think I will end now, someone might be looking for me.
Goodbye Melody."
