Lapis did need a second to figure out what Ame was talking about, but eventually blinked and nodded. "Oh, yes! That was an ability. See, I'm a Lapis Lazuli. Normally, they are able to project their memories onto the surface of water, almost like a screen. But I can't do that-" She said with no apparent chagrin, "-mine is... broken. I can still project any of my memories, but I can... um... only project them in my own eyes. It's still easy for me to go back into my mind and find any of the memories—sometimes maybe a little too easy—but if I had to show someone something, I would have to just... describe it." They likely arrived by the beach by now, and Lapis took them on a trip along the shoreline. "Humans don't have any abilities, do they?"
Her brows floated a bit as Lapis revealed that she was a defective gem. Amethyst wasn't judging, as she had been considered defective herself, and she'd even managed to become a rebel despite everything she ever thought about her life. On top of that it seemed Lapis could still get some use out of that ability, even if she hadn't turned out like other lapis gems. That more or less solidified to her that Lapis seemed to be on no particular side, but hinted that she may not be on the up and up as far as Homeworld allegiance goes.
When the gem's question came, Ame rubbed her chin as she thought for a moment,"Well, humans have all kinds of abilities. Some humans can play hockey, make coffee, drive cars, or draw, they just have to learn to do it. Gems can learn to do that stuff too, though," She explained, though she wasn't entirely sure what other human abilities there were, but she knew there must be many for them to build the society that they had. Ame shrugged, her eyes flicked down as she felt increasingly guilty for lying to this new gem; she hoped Lapis would forgive her, but the soldier never had to lie so much before she had rebelled.
Her eyes scanned the shore as they walked along the beach, and trailed up to the rebel base. Along with her guilt about lying was the undercurrent of shame she had over her desertion, about the fact that she was really going to talk to a rebel without fighting them for the first time. The warrior gem became increasingly nervous as they neared.
Lapis considered all of these things, then conceded with another nod. "That makes sense. I don't know how to do any of those. I guess it's because I was never given any of that in incubation, where you probably were."
Now they began to approach the crystal temple. Whether Lapis noticed the battle damage on the beach or not, she made no indication. She led Ame up the steps with no hesitation and knocked on the door once again. "Hello! This is Lapis again! I'm not an enemy, I just want to come in!" After that, she let out a satisfied sort of breath, spun around and sat down. "Now we'll probably have to wait." She put both hands to the gem on her chest and pulled out a blob of water for each. Holding the blobs in her palms, she shaped on into a cone and the other into a rectangle, then froze both shapes. She set the ice cone down and placed the rectangle on top, apparently just trying to balance it. Then she'd start pulling out other shapes of water and tried stacking them while trying to keep a balance.
The warp pad in the temple lit up, two gems that would be familiar to Ame revealed as the curtain of light disappeared. Blue looked up and spotted the purple gem and tilted her head, this gem looked familiar. Her eyes went wide before they narrowed. "Where's your little pink commander?" Blue asked. "Didn't expect to find a loyalist here without their commanding officer." She was taunting the other gem. "Or are you gonna join us?" She smirked and stepped forward. "We could always use the extra gems." She shrugged and held her hand out for a handshake.
Opalite watched all of this take place, this gem was all to familiar to her, the amethyst that helped in making her and Blue have their partial mental breakdown. So, Opalite wasn't all that happy right now, she just looked around awkwardly, knowing that Blue was trying to provoke some sort of response out of the amethyst.
As the two of them waited for the knock to be answered, she watched with some quiet fascination as Lapis sculpted the water, changing not only its shape but its state. When the warp beamed, she swiveled to glance over her shoulder and see who it was.
Amethyst's eyes went wide and her mouth fell open as she instantly recognized the gems that showed up. As Blue addressed her, the quartz glanced toward Lapis with a grimace on her face; if that greeting hadn't just blown open her lies, then she would soon have to explain herself anyway. "Uh..." The dumbstruck quartz uttered, eyes trailed down to the outstretched hand of Blue. She wasn't quite sure what to do, or why Blue was reaching toward her like that. Her eyes flicked back to Blue's and she swallowed,"You're the gem who told me I didn't know how to hold my sword, back in the canyons," She gave a chuckle to try to brush off how awkward all this was for her. She scratched the back of her head, eyes darting back to Lapis,"W-well, erm," She gave a grin that was unwieldy and uncertain, but she began her explanation anyway,"Sorry I lied Lapis, I'm actually an amethyst. I just, uh...well I'm worried about getting caught by said pink commander, so I went under cover. I actually have some information I'd like to share with the Crystal Gems," Her expression became more dour, determined, as she shifted toward the gem who had once been her enemy. She was more nervous than she ever remembered being, but managed to keep her composure.
Blue quirked an eyebrow. "How can we be sure you're not lying? You've already lied to her." Blue said and gestured to Lapis. "How can we know you won't do the same with us?" She had every reason to be like this, the last time she encountered this gem, she was attacking her. "Give me one good reason to trust you and not skewer you right here." She said, the last bit was hard to tell if it was joke or not. But she kept eye contact, even though she had to look down a good bit just to do so. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she awaited her answer, all the while, Opalite made her discomfort very clear by playing with her feathered wings and other surrounding objects.
Lapis' expression was a constant stream of surprise and confusion from all of the sudden reveals. For one, the fact that the door even opened this time amazed her. Second, Ame was an Amethyst and not a giant purple human. This was probably the most disconcerting thing of all. She still had trouble grasping the concept of lying, especially in a situation where it made no sense to her. Third, that the Amethyst was a loyalist gem knocking on the door to the Crystal Gems' temple?
"W-wait!" She stepped between them. "You should hear her first, even if she is a liar! Maybe this isn't the thing she will be lying about, or maybe the rebels would be able to tell if it's a lie. That way, you can skewer her somewhere else." She said with an innocent smile, not knowing what skewer meant.
Blue's words were like a left hook, smacking the amethyst across the face and reminding her of the position she was in here; it would be difficult to prove she was here with good intentions, especially considering the shady circumstances she had arrived in. Then, an electric shock snapped through Ame's body and she cringed, almost as if in physical pain, as Lapis's words hit her like a sucker punch square to the gut. It was clear to the quartz that this was a bad situation; everyone already hated her!
Perhaps that was hyperbole, but she certainly felt that way as she continued to grimace and think of a way to save things from going even further south,"Uh! W-well hopefully there will be no skewering at all!" She glanced between the gems present,"I just-- look, the Pink Court intelligence unit has eyes everywhere. Beach City is small, but just big enough for spies to be anywhere without being conspicuous," She frowned, and cast her eyes away as she scratched the back of her head,"I hope you guys can forgive me. Before, I was just...taking orders. Then something happened, and..." She glanced around, then let her eyes settle on Blue Goldstone,"Well, I think once you confirm the information I have, you'll know why I had to come to you with it,"
Blue quirked an eyebrow and crossed her arms in front of her chest. "Alright, let's hear it then..." She said, a look of annoyance at best was there, but she wasn't in a state of rage like Labradorite was. Opalite grumbled and fidgeted behind Blue, clearly still not liking the situation. She was trying to find any excuse to occupy herself with so she wouldn't get sucked into it, but, as she always did, she was about to be sucked into it."And if we determine you're only here to try and do something that would likely benefit home world and not us?" Blue asked, she was dead serious, knowing the crazy things home world did just to turn the fight in their favor. The fact that they even needed to turn it in their favor baffled Blue, they had the numbers, but even an army of rubies couldn't face off against something that could very easily poof them all with one punch,Blue could have only dreamt of that power until she became a rebel. She could fuse then, and take on multitudes more.
"I think..." Lapis began to interject, turning back to face Blue while still standing between them. "We wouldn't have knocked on the door if she were going to do something bad. She would have acted more like that corrupted Ruby squad and tried knocked over your bus." She explained, without any elaboration. "Well... your temple, not your bus. Either way, if she's just going to speak then you don't have to let her in or anything. I think you should hear her out." With that, she walked out from between them and plopped down off to the side, grinning expectantly at Ame. Her grin broke for a moment as she turned her attention back to Blue. "Oh right, but I would like to be let in so I can use your warp pad," she said casually, then resumed waiting for Ame to speak.
She sighed heavily after Blue finished speaking, head weighed down with guilt. Had it been a good idea for her to betray everyone, all of her sisters, her leaders, friends, everyone...to commit treason, after knowing it would be difficult to get these gems to trust her? She cringed to herself, and avoided looking at Blue Goldstone for a moment. It was easy to tell that Opalite didn't want to see her here at all, which only made her guilt weigh heavier.
This was about as difficult as she had anticipated, though she was glad that she hadn't been taken down on sight. As Lapis spoke, her eyes trailed over to the gem; even though she'd lied, it seemed Lapis still wanted to vouch for her. Ame quirked a brow, unsure of what escapade had lead the plucky blue gem to seeing corrupted rubies topple a bus, but 6UE managed to give a lighthearted smile, and straightened up a bit. "Right-- the warp," She chuckled, glancing toward Lapis with a bit of a glimmer of hope that the gem didn't totally hate her now, but she didn't want to jump to conclusions,"First things first, Lapis here has been trying to get the Crystal Gem's attention for longer than I have," Her eyes flicked to the side; during war time, she could understand why the rebels wouldn't want to open their doors, but Lapis seemed to be a good gem.
She then let her deep indigo eyes meet with those of Blue. She took in a breath, shoring up her courage,"...and, well, if you determined that I was a threat, I guess...I'd have to accept that, and find someone else to help me. I figured, if the Crystal Gems really do fight for Earth, then...t-then...I can help," She rested her hand on the back of her neck, and turned her head toward the direction she'd come from. Was she going to leave everything behind, for the sake of preserving her home, Earth?
Blue thought for a second then stepped aside. "Come on in, both of you." She said, Opalite just grumbled more and walked off to another part of the temple. "You can use the warp..." Blue looked at Lapis. "And you and I can talk." She looked back to Ame. She walked further into the temple and found a spot to sit, she sat down and waited for everyone to get situated. All while this was happening, Opalite was off making noise, it was hard to tell what she was doing, but it was something to keep her occupied while Blue determined what was going on. In all reality, she was just making noise just out of sight so they wouldn't try to talk to her.
Lapis' eyes lit up when she was finally allowed into the temple. She quickly fell in line with the rest of the group and couldn't keep herself from looking at _everything_ inside. When Blue spoke again, she blinked in surprise. "Oh! I don't need to use the warp right now. Maybe later, if I can get Ruby to come with me. I'll just follow you instead," She said with a resolute nod. Assuming she wasn't thrown out before then, she followed the rest of the group to the sitting area. Deciding they probably didn't prepare for her to be sitting here, she decided to sit on the floor like a good rock when everyone sat down. Then she turned her attention to Amethyst, presuming it was now her time to share.
Amethyst too when alight, eyes glittering with reserved excitement now that it seemed the gem who had once been her opponent in battle would accept her presence, if not her apology. She gave a sigh of relief, and glanced toward Lapis with a grin on her face, then stepped after the group as they went. Still, it was hard to relax, especially with her internal moral quandary continuing to churn over in her mind. It wasn't okay for her to abandon her sisters in arms, but it wasn't okay to let Homeworld destroy the Earth, either.
She glanced over the odd furniture, and chose a spot on the sofa to plop down on, perhaps a little bit too hard; the furniture protested with creaks and groans as the heavy-set amethyst soldier sunk into the soft seating, and leaned forward to brace her elbows on her knees. She looked down at no particular spot in front of her as she tried to get everything she wanted to say in order. Her hands clasped together, and she swallowed, looking up. An incredible sense of awkwardness poured over her, and she sat silently stalled up for a moment, eyes flicking between each gem in the room,"N-nice place, it's...cozy! Quieter than I expected too...a lot different from, erm...the rumors..." She had expected to see more Crystal gems about, as well as more war time material, but it seemed for now it would just be the four of them. Her eyes flicked to Lapis.
"So! Uh, Ruby, huh? Must be a friend of yours?" Ame grinned, trying to make herself feel less awkward before she plunged into the dark subject matter that she would have to discuss with Blue Goldstone.
Blue raised an eyebrow, she knew this gem wasn't homeworld material. Blue chuckled. "Yeah, cozy as it can be, and the rumors, every homeworld gem would believe anything that comes out of a diamond's mouth, it's hardwired into you, the fact that you could break from that hardwiring, and come down here, show's that you've got the makings of a rebel, show's that you've opened your eyes. REALLY opened your eyes for the first time." Blue smiled. "The fact that you did all that..." Blue looked Ame in the eye. "Makes you a rebel." She said. "Welcome to the Crystal Gems, what should we call ya?" Blue asked, she was being friendly, knowing that a potential ally, is a potential friend, Opalite knew this too, but she was stubborn at times, and didn't forgive someone who attempted to hurt Blue so easily.
