As the two of them made their way through the city, they attracted some attention from passer's by; two large, multicolored gems stood out among the crowd of pantsuits, ties and slick shoes. Though, for many of the humans in the city, gems had become a more regular sight to behold, especially as the rebellion gained traction. Ame didn't mind the looks, but she glanced over Jazz, and wondered if she were the sort who'd want to stand out, or blend in.
When the jasper pointed out the International Foods store, 6UE scanned over the sign and the windows. She walked right up to the glass and cupped her hand over her eyes to get a good look at what was going on inside, then pulled away with a grin on her face,"Nope! Never even noticed this was here. International Foods, eh?" She wasn't even sure what national was, let alone international, but foods was something she could get behind. Ame chugged the rest of her macchiato, and glanced around for the nearest bin. After she tossed her cup, she went to open the door to the food store and get the adventure underway,"Oh!" An idea dawned on her as soon as her feet passed the threshold of the store's doorway,"Lets get stuff for a picnic! That means, whatever food we can carry with us to the park!" She'd never done a picnic, and they were going to the park anyway-- it was the perfect opportunity to try something new!
Jazz smiled at the excitement that Ame showed. At least she was able to spot something new for both of them. The suggestion of a picnic sounded great! It was not something she had tried but she saw people doing something similar on the beach in Beach City.
That sounds like a fun idea. I am not sure what kind of food would be in the shop but I am sure we can find something good in there." Jazz says while maintaining her smile. Maybe the picnic would be a decent opportunity to find out more about the amethyst and where she stood on things.
Jazz walked into the shop, holding the door open for Ame, and then took a look at the different foods.
With a nod to Jazz's words, she too delved into the shop. The aisles in stores like these could be maze-like, though Amethyst could see clear over most of them. Here, she quickly read the signs to herself, but couldn't make sense of a lot of them. She simply picked a random aisle and began walking. Soon she was surrounded by shelves of colorful packages, bins full of packaged vegetables that looked strange compared to the ones she'd seen in the past.
"Oh!" She pickled up a crinkling package of pre-made noodles,"I've heard of these, noodles!”A gem she’d met in the past had referenced things like these, and she grabbed a couple packages of it before moving on, and her eyes pulled down across the bins of veggies and packaged items she didn’t recognize. Considering she had a good amount of cash, she just kept picking things off the shelves as she went, but soon ran out of room to hold everything she was carrying. She decided to bubble everything, then turned toward Jazz,”Check this stuff out!” She couldn’t help but chuckle at how weird this was to her, the process of aligning all of these packaged food items in such a manner, and then trading someone pieces of paper and scrap metal for it at the end. She spoke as she continued around to the next aisle,”There's so much here!"
Jazz nodded to the amethyst. There was indeed a lot of different stuff here. A lot of things that Jazz had never heard of before. She gravitated towards the hearty foods. Breads, meats, and cheeses were what caught her eye. Especially when there was a Black, Red, and Yellow horizontal striped flag. The smells from them were good, she hoped that they tasted good as well.
"There is a lot that we could get. I am not sure what you would want or how much is a good amount. I do not have any money though." Jazz says while browsing through the different foods. "What do you think is a fair amount? I do not want to have you spend too much of what you have."
Jazz's words caused Amethyst to slow down and think for a moment, she cast a rather broody look over the food she had already gathered from the shelves. She wasn't altogether sure how much money she actually had, or how humans even determined the worth of food objects and other such things. "Oh, uh, get whatever you want! That's what I'm doing!" Amethyst shrugged and grinned, even if she didn't have enough money for everything, they could still get enough for a picnic.
When she had determined that she had gathered enough food, she sauntered over to the counter with about a dozen purple bubbles following her. The man at the counter's eyes went wide as he was approached, and for a moment 6UE gave a bit of a confused glance at the expression the human wore. "Oh! Sorry," She grinned, and allowed her bubbles to float over the counter, then popped them all in one go. The human stared at her for a moment, then started ringing up the products.
While she watched the human scan each item, Amethyst took a moment to appreciate how carefree she felt. She could put all her worries on a back shelf while she thought about something simple, like hanging out with a gem she just met in a big city full of surprises. Even if she didn't have a ton of money, she could still find things to do. Her eyes flicked over to Jazz while the man continued ringing her up,"So, what made you want to come to Empire City on your day off? I mean, it's a good choice no doubt, I'm just curious," She gave a lighthearted smile

She looked curoiusly over at Ame as she put her items on the counter. Well she could explain why she was here she supposed. "Well I came to Empire City because I had not seen much of it. I also have not seen too much of human cities besides Beach City." Jazz says while watching the items get scanned. "I have not done too much when it comes to humans in general... So I decided to expand my horizons and visit a new city." Though it was also a trip to get her away from Beach City that she could clear her thoughts and sort out how she felt about her last mission. She would have to see how that ended up.
The amethyst quartz nodded with excitement as Jazz explained, and the cashier continued ringing up their goods. If this gem normally hung out in Beach City normally, it was easy to think she was a Crystal Gem. Ame still had trouble thinking of herself as being a Crystal Gem; she didn't have a star on her base form, and she hadn't yet been through any kind of initiation. That was something she hoped to ask Jazz, but she would wait to get into such questions until the two of them were at the park.
"Well, Beach City is fun, but Empire City is a blast. There was only one time that I came here when I didn't have fun, that was back when I was still-- uh, working for...uh..." Her eyes darted away as her words faded,"Well at any rate, I'm sure you'll love it here. There is so much cool stuff going on!"
"That'll be 84.90," The man at the counter spoke up as Amethyst finished speaking. Then, the quartz's eyes widened and she looked at the man with the corner of her lip tugging slightly downward. She had never heard a price so high in her time here, and she decided the sheer mass of stuff the two of them had collected must've been considered quite valuable to humans.
"Erm..." She scratched the back of her neck as she dug into her pocket and pulled out her wad of cash. She began to count it out, then gave a sigh of relief when she realized she had just enough to cover their picnic,"Ah, perfect!" Her excited tone returned, and soon the cashier handed them bags of their picnic items,"Hey, that's what I call convenient," She chuckled, then scooped up all the bags into her arms, easily lifting them and swiveling toward the door.

Jazz raised an eyebrow when Ame topic changed on a dime when it concerned her old work. That was something to look into later... Right now, the food was covered by the cash and the two gems could head towards the park. Maybe she could get some answers when they arrived. "I am sure the trips you have had here were quite exciting. Considering you know so much more about the city than I do." Jazz says while the gems walked towards the park. "I am curious what you like the most about the city. You talked about hockey and the different shops here. But I am would enjoy hearing about your adventures." Jazz kept looking around the city, trying to find another possible shop to look into.
"Hmm," She thought as she walked down the street, arms loaded with goods,"Well, I think whats most fun about Empire City is all the people you get to meet. The hockey rink was just one place to meet people, but there are all kinds of folks you can talk to in the stores and restaurants-- that's a place where you sit down and eat, kind of like the cafe, and there are these things called clubs too, but anyway, I've made a lot of friends so far!" She glanced to Jazz with a a big smile; she hoped this gem would become a friend to her as well, especially if they were both on the same side of the war. She looked up again, and realized the two of them were coming to a crosswalk,"Oh! These things can be tricky," She stopped at the edge,"If you walk at the wrong time, you might, uh, get hurt," She gave a short, nervous laugh as traffic proceeded through the intersection. Since the use of her arms were restricted, she used a nod of her head to bring Jazz's attention to the light across from them,"Keep an eye on the little light over there, the picture on it tells you when to stop or when to go,"
She waited patiently for the light to turn, and humans began to gather around the gems as they too waited for the light. She shrugged and leaned toward Jazz,"Your best bet is to just look at what everyone else is doing, usually, that's how I figured out how to get around,"

((Sorry about the delay and congrats on Crystal Gem status!))
Jazz nodded as Ame explained how the sign worked. She had not seen anything like that in Beach City, so she was thankful for the help. She watched the humans and the light so that she knew when it was appropriate to walk. The signal turned white, and the humans began to cross the road. Jazz followed behind the humans with Ame in toe. Once they were across the street, the two gems kept walking. "The different places here are interesting to look at. The shops and signs are brighter and larger than Beach City." Jazz says while the gems walked onward. "And you are able to find a lot of different things that you could not find in Beach City too. It is simply a lot."
She nodded as she walked, and thought about what else they would need for their picnic. Soon, between all of the concrete high-rises, commuting humans and cars emerged a green expanse, standing against the rest of the city. The small bastion of nature was, like much of the rest of the city, filled with humans, pets on leashes, and winding paths that intersected with one another underneath the well tended trees and tame garden flowers. "Oh yeah, you'll never run out of things to do," She pursed her lips,"Well, maybe eventually-- but uh, I haven't run out yet," She chuckled,"Beach City has some pretty fun stuff too, but you're right, don't have to walk far to see everything that town has to offer," Except of course for the secret hidden base of the Crystal Gems, which would be out of sight. The further they walked, the more excited Ame was to ask Jazz about the rebel group.
As she looked on at the park, she looked for clues about how humans did their own picnics; it seemed that some of them were enjoying some food, though they were sprawled over blankets, and some seemed to have other things like footballs and frisbees. Ame kept walking but glanced around, wondering if she should grab those things too,"Do you want to get straight to tasting this stuff we got, or try to find some more things for our picnic?" She tilted her head slightly to look at Jazz as she continued forward, though the tall gem tried to stay conscientious of the smaller humans weaving around them.
Jazz thought to herself for a minute or two. She could enjoy the other activities but she was more interested in getting to know this gem. "I think I would enjoy trying the food first. It would also give us some time to talk more, and I would like to learn more about your adventures. " Jazz says while the gems look for a good spot to take their picnic. "We could try the other activities after the food. I would be interested in trying one of the games with a ball or throwing disc." Jazz spotted a good shaded spot that was not too close to other people and pointed it out to Ame. "That looks like a good spot."
Her brows floated a little as her head turned to look toward Jazz. It was a bit of a surprise to hear that she was so interested in the convoluted adventures of a rebelling amethyst. Then again, she was quite interested in Jazz herself, to learn where this gem came from or if she had a similar outlook to her own. Though, she couldn't be naive about it; after all, it was wartime, and gems on all sides were willing to do whatever it took to win.
She tried not to dwell too much on war and mistrust between gemkind, and allowed her eyes to follow where Jazz had pointed. Nestled below a large, friendly oak was a patch of plush green grass to claim. A spot like that would be coveted, so she picked up the pace of her step a bit,"Great scouting, I almost missed that one," She chuckled as she took long strides to get to the destination.
Once there, she squatted down and carefully unloaded the bags of goods they'd picked up from the international market. All different languages, shapes, and colors sprawled onto the grass, and the large purple quartz soldier plopped down, and laid against the lush carpet of green for a moment. "I dunno why humans bother with chairs, they should just put grass everywhere," Ame started to chat as she lifted her weight up, already leaving a quartz-shaped indent in the grass. Then she rifled through everything to find what she wanted to try first, then gave a little laugh,"More room to stretch out!" She found the noodles she'd picked up, eyes glittering with anticipation as she ripped open the bag. Before she took a bite, she look up at Jazz,"You must have some stories too, hm?"

Jazz followed the Amethyst to their spot. She watched the quartz unpack their goods and spread them out. She was fascinated by the different languages and styles to foods that could be labeled in general fashion. Jazz smiled a bit as Ame spread out on the grass and commented on chairs. Jazz preferred chairs if she was honest but, she could see the appeal in chairs. Then Ame asked Jazz about her stories. She did not have many in the way of human interactions but she had a few. "I can tell you some if you like? I do not have very many stories involved with humans, but I do have a few stories from my time in the wilds of Earth."
Ame looked expectantly toward Jazz while the gem spoke, and nodded before opening her mouth wide and taking a huge crunch into the block of noodles. Her brows furrowed a bit as she mulled over the taste of these famed spectacles, the noodles that she had heard so much about seemed rather bland. Ame reached over and grabbed the packaging, only to see a smaller packet slip out. Her eyes lit up; this must've been what she missed.
When Jazz finished speaking, Ame had finished her first bite, then smiled before she spoke,"Well lets hear it! Lots of wild stuff going on here that's for sure. Earth is full of surprises," She chuckled, then held the square stack of uncooked noodles in her palm, before tearing open the spice packet with her teeth and pouring it over the noodles. The purple quartz continued gnawing on the crunchy, powdery mixture, unsure of how she felt about the taste of it...

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
