A beam of light split through the night skies, and disappeared as quickly as it came. Off of the warp pad a small lone Ruby started her journey through the night. When Fulgurite told her of what had become of the Communications Hub she had to see for herself. "So, we really are alone." Ruby said under her breath. Ruby was usually a overjoyed, happy gem but something didn't feel write about this place. The sand was greying, the rubble coated the ground, there really wasn't much left of the hub. As happy as she was that Homeworld was really gone, she was still depressed about how much they just destroyed everything they touched. Ruby picked up a small piece of the rubble and licked it, after this she bubbled it and sent it back to the temple, wondering if it could make a good ingredient in her cooking. Much like the kindergarten soil, things connected to happy memories often tasted good, even to gems that hated food. Ruby's thought was interrupted as, beneath the rubble of the communications hub a small corrupted gem about the size of a prairie dog leaped out at her. Ruby jumped out of the way just in time, and summoned her spoon, it looked like she was in for a fight.

Since he was sent back to Earth he felt a little... unused? He used to protect an entire human city but now? He barely had anything to do. It was fairly depressing, to be honest. So he was flying around, looking for some corrupted gems to fight. After all, it was some time since he last fought and he was getting a bit rusty. And that wasn't good for a warrior gem like he was. Instead of a fight, he saw something different - a warp pad activated somewhere under him. At that moment he realized he was flying over the old communication hub. Being curious what was happening he quickly started his descend. He couldn't help it and had to land a bit dramatically - with his flaming wings spread wide. Landing he saw a ruby facing some sort of corrupted gem albeit a small one. "Huh?" was a best reaction he could muster.
"Woah!" Ruby exclaimed, leaping out of the way as the corrupted gem pounced at her once again. "Ah!" Ruby exclaimed as the gem descended from the skies. Choosing to trust the gem, Ruby yelled out at him. "Hey! A little help over here?" Ruby said. Ruby bashed the the gem over the head, then summoned her battle fork. Slamming the weapons together they melded into one, a battle spork! Ruby leaped atop the gem and stabbed the spork into the gem's fur. The gem poofed into dust but when the dust settled there was no gemstone to be found. Ruby, who had assumed the gem would be somewhere in it's mouth, or hidden somewhere looked confused. Looking back up at the strange new gem she spoke once more. "Nevermind, I got it. Say who are you anyways?" Ruby's eyes lit up. "Do you want to be friends?!" Ruby exclaimed. Ruby was always looking to make a new friend.

The ruby asked for help and Chip always helped those in need. Or those who asked for it. With a quick move, he summed his solar lance prepared to impale the corrupted gem with a quick thrust but to his surprise, the Ruby had the situation well in control. poofing the gem with a single attack of his... spork? Uh... that was new. Letting the lance drop it vanished as it hit the ground. "Hello there, I am Chip the Fire Opal, Facet-5, Cut-001, serving the glorious Pink Diamond." he introduced himself to this ruby. He had nothing against being friendly but if this gem turned out to be a rebel he would probably have to poof and bubble it. "Uh... sure? I guess..." he said
Uh oh, a Homeworld Gem, that meant trouble for Ruby. As much as Ruby hated Homeworld Gems she had to get out of here alive. "Uhm.." Ruby thought for a moment, trying to remember her Facet and Cut. "Uhmmm.. Ruby Facet-9, Cut, uhm, 9XR." Ruby said, stuttering as she spoke. Ruby flashed a look of fear but then managed to bring a forced smile to her face. "Anyways friend, what brings you out here?" Ruby asked. "I haven't seen many gems around these parts and I--" Ruby was interrupted by more growling beneath the rubble. Three more of the red corrupted gems jumped out of the rubble, seemingly identical to the other one Ruby poofed, aside from the middle one who seemed bigger than the others. These ones didn't appear to have gems either. As Ruby was sizing them up, the middle one leaped out at Ruby tackling her to the ground. As Ruby struggled with the gem it blocked her from reaching her tongue, seemingly on purpose as if it anticipated her weapon. "Ah!" Ruby exclaimed. "A little help here?" Ruby yelled out at chip as the corrupted gem bit at her.

"It's nice to meet you, Ruby," he answered with a nod. Chip always liked to meet new gems and Rubies were usually fairly easy to get along with. He met only a few of them before though. "Well, I was just flying by and saw the warp pad activate... and since this place is long dead I was curious about what is happening here," he said honestly. It was just curiosity. Before he could say or do anything else more of these weird things attacked. But all of them lacked gems... so they had to be just spawns of something else. Chip never met anything like that. Instantly he summoned another lance and since Rubies were usually fire-resistant he shot a huge wave of fire to vaporise the spawns. Just to be sure though he aimed a bit higher so he didn't hit Ruby needlessly. "Are you ok?" he asked with noticeable worries in his voice.
Ruby shrugged off the flame. "Woah! That was so cool! You know, I've always wanted to be able to control fire like that! I just have some trouble, I'm not a very powerful gem but I think if I trained hard enough I could do something like that, at least that's what the quartz told me! Anyways, thanks for the assist! I usuallly have some trouble with corrupted gems, but I know if I just try hard enough I can take them on!" Ruby looked down trying to think up a good tale, she wasn't a very good liar. "Uhm.. my friend just told me that this place had been completely reduced to rubble, I just had to see for myself." Ruby said sheepishly, did Homeworld gems even have friends? Some of the ones on Earth must've had some friends since here they have time for things other than the empire. Ruby snickered to herself. The agates sure didn't have any friends. Then she shuddered, as annoying and rude as the agates were, they were also terrifying.

"There is no shame in that. It isn't that long since I couldn't use my powers properly... as you said - it just needs some training," he said. Then again rubies weren't usually all that powerful. They were foot soldiers. "From what I heard this and the intergalactic warp pad were the first structures to be destroyed to cut Earth from Homeworld," Chip explained. "We should be careful though... these critters had no gemstones... so they are just spawns... something more powerful has to be nearby," he warned Ruby. He wasn't afraid though, he hunted corrupted gems of immense power and usually emerged victorious. And fortunately he could use his fire freely since it couldn't really hurt Ruby. "Anyway... what is your story?" Chip asked while looking around
“Uhm.. Uhhh.” Ruby stuttered trying to think of something. “What’s a spawn?” Ruby blurted out. Then immediately shut her mouth. “I don’t understand can corrupted gems make more corrupted gems?” Ruby stuttered awkwardly. Her gaze darted as something growled from behind the piles of rubble. “Are they infecting us?” Ruby exclaimed as the idea was terrifying to her. She had no idea how the corruption worked and how these things used to be gems. Ruby gave a yelp as several more of the corrupted gems burst forth from the rubble. She jumped back behind Chip, diagonally adjacent to him. She summoned a fork and then a spoon and slammed them together, creating another spork.

"Well... like I can shoot fire some monsters can spawn these small beings that can act semi-independent... they are not really that dangerous, unlike their progenitor," Chip explained. "I know very little about corruption but I found hundreds of corrupted monsters, I've visited the Kindergarten where it came from and I am perfectly fine," he said. As soon as he finished more of these spawns appeared. "This is getting a wee bit annoying..." he touched the gem on his back to summon his shield as well as his solar lance. "We have to get the progenitor up in the open, fighting these tiny ones is pointless," he remained motionless, waiting for the spawns to make the first move. He also wanted to see what this ruby can do.
"Uhm.. Ok Chip! I'll cover you!" Ruby jumped up on a rock and summoned her knife and then her spoon. Ruby shape shifted the knife to be longer, looking more like a javelin or a spear. Ruby then threw her knife slamming it into one of the bigger corrupted gems. She then jumped off of the rock, wielding her spoon like a hammer she slammed it into the base of the knife. The knife cut deeper into the corrupted gem which then poofed. She grabbed her knife and slammed the base of it into the base of the spoon. The weapons shifted creating a new form of cutlery. On one side it was a knife and on the other a spoon. Ruby concentrated for a moment, shifting the head of the spoon to match that of the spork. Ruby's eyes lit up, she had been hoping to show off some of the new tricks she had learned to a friend but rarely got involved in combat. One of the corrupted gems leaped at Ruby and she held out the end of her spork like a trident. The corrupted gem fell into the spork and poofed. Ruby began to slice through a few more of the smaller corrupted gems. But, as the dust cleared, the ground lit up. Like a regular gem would burst from the walls of a kindergarten the corrupted gem spawns broke free from the ground. Ruby's eyes widened in fear as the corrupted gems surrounded her. "Hey Chip! Any luck on finding that pro-gee-be-er-at-or out in the open?" Ruby asked, sounding the word out as she spoke. Just like Fulgurite, it seemed Chip used pretty big words.

Chip was waiting, only attacking those foolish enough to approach him. He had no idea where the mother creature could be but since they couldn't find it it was probably hiding underground or something like this. Fortunately, Chip was a very, very powerful gem and he was yet to unleash his full power. Chip jumped into the air, his fiery wings allowing him to climb high very fast. And as quickly as he rose he fell to the ground unleashing a powerful explosion that shook the ground. "Let's see if this will flush it out into the open..." he said with a childish voice that didn't really fit his level of power. And since Chip really liked to show off this explosion was probably bigger than it really needed to be...

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
