Lapis had been gone from Beach City for a while. Prior to leaving she let Ruby know she was off to go revisit her Kindergarten, but hadn't come back that day. Now ten days later, she walked back into the city with Painite. During their long walk back to the city, Lapis happily described at great length all she could about what she had learned of life on Earth so far. This included life in Beach City, the humans, money, furniture, her apartment with Ruby, and most importantly, her stuffed giraffe and Ruby's stuffed elephants.
Lapis led them back to her apartment building. They ascended the elevator to the correct floor and made it to their door. Thankfully, Lapis had remembered her key this time. She unlocked the door—briefly describing what she was doing—and opened it. "And here it is!" She announced.
For the sake of a description upon an initial glance, the apartment opened in on a sparsely-furnished living room with a couch (which Lapis had explained was different from a chair, which she also explained) and a few other minor things laying around. Farther into the apartment was a bar-like view of the kitchen with the doorway around on the hallway-side. Down this single hallway were a few more doors, which likely led to what Lapis had described as a bedroom and a bathroom.
"Ah-! Ah - Lapis! You're back," yelled an overactive Ruby from the bedroom side of the hall. She ran out of that room and into the hall with a huge smile on her face. "I had no idea how long you'd be gone so I-" Ruby started to say as she saw Lapis, but her expression nearly fell straight off her face as she saw Painite. "...L-L-L-" She stuttered, backing up very slowly, pressing her back up against the back of the hallway, as she stared at the seven foot tall Gem standing behind Lapis. Lapis could maybe see Ruby mouth the word 'Painite' as she stared, looking equal parts confused and terrified. She had no idea what to do, so she just stood there and waited for something to happen.

Painite had listened very intently to everything that Lapis had said. All of this seemed so new and interesting! As they came up an elevator, Painite found she had a distaste for the sounds that played, the tunes that carried out from small speakers in the elevator, and was most relieved when she stepped outside and didn't have to listen to them any longer.
As they came up to the door, Painite leaned over Lapis, resting her forearm on the doorframe and peering inside as it opened. She took brief note of the design, the items inside the house, before hearing and recognizing the voice of a Ruby...moment of truth, how would this play out?
"Hello!" Painite said, a small smile on her lips at first, then a gentle frown as she watched The Ruby struggle to form words. She seemed scared out of her mind. She put her hands up, making a "Please calm yourself small red child" type of motion with them as she laughed nervously and spoke. "N-no, don't be afraid, I'm not gonna hurt you or anything!"
"No Ruby it's alright!" Lapis said with assurance, hurrying inside to take her side. "Painite is a friend! I met her in the Kindergarten after she saved me from some corrupted gems, and she wanted to come back with me. We just had to walk here, since she can't fly and I don't know where any warp pads are." She turned her attention to Painite, smiling, but still speaking to Ruby. "And she's been really interested in learning more things about Earth and the humans and I've tried to describe everything I can but I can't describe it all through words." She leaned a little closer to Ruby. "But most importantly—she thinks like us." Lapis said with widening eyes, hoping Ruby would understand.
Ruby stared at Painite, then looked directly into Lapis' eyes. She breathed heavily, her pupils searching Lapis' eyes as if to try to find clues about whether or not this was a good idea. Lapis mentioning 'thinking like us' seemed to pique her interest, and she calmed slightly. With a shudder, she gave an imperceptible nod and pushed off the wall gently so she was standing on her own and looked down the hallway at Painite, almost sizing her up. She looked at Lapis one last time before looking back at Painite.
"So... you're a Painite from Homeworld? There's no way you're from Earth. They never made any Painites on Earth... something about the ground not being fertile enough." Ruby said, trying to hold the confidence in her voice. Clearly she had a little bit of an idea about this sort of thing.

Painite laughed gently as she listened to Ruby speak, leaning against the doorframe and watching her size her up. Then, she'd laugh again as Ruby spoke so confidently. "Actually, no." She said gently, rolling her hand about casually. "I'm here, from Earth...I'm originally under Pink Diamond, she wanted to experiment on the soil here, see what they could and couldn't grow, Myself and two others were the only successful Painites that have been grown in...well..." She paused, tapping her chin. "In quite a long time, I don't think there's really any others besides us, at least that I know of..."
She looked over at Lapis again, then at the Ruby.
"It's a pleasure to meet you though, Lapis has been very kind to me! She helped me with those corrupted gems, and she's been so kind as to tell me more about how Earth life works, I've never really been very far outside the Kindergarden, before now...everything is so much more colorful out here!"
"I know! Everything about Earth is so..." She paused for a moment trying to think of the perfect word to describe her thoughts about Earth. She overthought it and couldn't find the right word, so she ended with an enthusiastic "Yeah!" and settled with a smile. "So, this is our apartment. It's basically a space inside a bigger building that you have to pay every month to keep. They're normally empty except for a few mysterious water machines, and you can fill the space with whatever you want." She turned around and pointed at things. "Like that couch, like that rug, like the stuffed giraffe, like the stuffed elephants.." Her hand slowly dropped as realization dawned on her. "Huh... y'know, we came all this way so I could show you Beach City, but I have no idea what to do next." She said to Painite, then looked down at Ruby.
Ruby seemed to be coming to terms with a couple things. She had been wrong about Painites, and having been wrong so confidently, the other gems might see her pride take a little hit, shown by Ruby rubbing her arm a little ashamedly. Painite's mentioning of corrupted gems seemed to shake her some, as she also just registered that Lapis had said 'she saved me from corrupted gems.' Ruby let her guard down a little farther with that thought. She responded to Painite first.
"So you're... sort of like Lapis, I guess. New to Earth, but born on Earth. The stuff here can be a little bit confusing." She also listened to what Lapis had to say. "What Lapis said is right. Earth has a whole lot to it, and Beach City seems to have a piece of everything. We brought Peridot to the arcade, but I'm sort of bored of the arcade... if I can be honest." Ruby said, rubbing her hair. "We could show her the boardwalk and then just... sort of see where she goes?" Ruby suggested, before turning to Painite. "Is there anything you've seen humans do that you want to see? Um... like clothing, or food, or anything like that?"

Painite would shrug at Ruby, looking at Lapis as well. "I haven't seen humans do much of anything except yell at me when I broke their things...by accident." She huffed, gently, rubbing the back of her neck as she relived the incident with the car, a squished human, and lots of flashing lights again. "They didn't like that." She seemed to perk up a bit at the mention of eating, though, she had seen humans doing that, or at least so she thought.
"Eating! Is that, like, when humans put things in their mouths to live? I've never tried that, so, we could do that first!" She said, a hint of excitement in her tone. "What do we eat, do we eat anything or are there specific things?" She looked at both Gems before her, a curious expression on her face. She wondered t herself; for a moment, if humans ate one another like many of the wildlife on this planet seemed to do...but she kept this thought to herself, for now.
Lapis smiled, but one could see the brief flash of panic in Lapis' eyes at having to go eat again. "Of course! There are a lot of places to eat in Beach City. I don't really know where many of them are, but there's always the place where we got the corn dogs." She crossed her arms and tilt her head down to think. "Or any of the restaurants I sell scallops to, but I don't really want to eat an animal." Then her eyes lit up and she looked at Ruby. "Oh, Ruby, we could go to the french fry stand! That way Painite can try eating and we can show her what a job is at the same time!"
"Oh - that's a great idea, Lapis!" Her tune seemed to change dramatically as she caught Lapis' excitement. "Would that be okay with you Painite? Er - ma'am?" Ruby said, looking over to Painite. "There's many different kinds of foods there, and I know all about them because - well - it's my job to make the food. I don't really know what it tastes like, because eating is um... - anyway, it all smells interesting!" Ruby finally managed, jogging over to the corner of the main room they were in. In the corner was a small drawstring bag, from which Ruby pulled a white apron that was stained with grease. "And maybe we can teach you about currency, too! You can borrow some of my human money and then we can trade it for the food. Sort of like... training for interacting with humans."

"Humans eat animals?" She asked, seeming to fixate on that particular part of the conversation. Her mind wandered for a bit, eyes following Ruby as she moved about. She was silent for a few seconds, eyes glazing over as she half-listened to something or other about currency. She had a burning question in her mind. Originally she'd been keen on keeping it to herself. She figured there was a food chain to this planet, so, the Humans eat the animals because they're bigger and smarter, right? So by that logic, didn't that mean that...
"Do we eat the Humans?" She asked; her tone unsure. Painite really didn't know if that's how it worked. She remembered hearing about some humans who tried to mess with Kindergardens being...dispatched, but she wasn't sure if by following the local way of life, she had to eat humans. She wasn't sure how she'd feel about that. Humans seemed awfully emotional just about having their possessions broken, so what would they do if you ate another human? Painite was unsure, and confused, and she really just wanted to know if she'd have to eat a human in order to fit in here at Beach City.
Lapis' smile dropped. "No, you--Painite you can't eat the humans." She stared. "Gems don't even need to eat, and the humans don't expect us to. Some gems just like to do it because they like the feeling of... food passing through their body." She stifled a shudder, the sensation coming back to her. "And besides, not even the humans eat other humans. They'll eat just about anything except other humans. Or gems. I think it's because they must have a rule about not being allowed to eat things that can talk. And food that falls on the ground. Except they eat plants, which grow in the ground..."
She took a long pause, as if she had drifted off to somewhere else to consider this further. All at once she snapped back to the present.
Lapis seemed to cringe as soon as Painite mentioned gems eating, and then her cringe got worse as soon as Painite mentioned the act of eating a human being. "Humans also don't eat anything that's alive, I don't think. There's some sort of set of rules that dictate what humans can and can't eat, and my guess is - like drinking water from the ocean - it's all tied to something all humans have in common. Something physiological." Ruby nodded, though. "Lapis is right, we should get moving. Most of the stuff at the fry stand isn't an animal, though some of it is. It's up to you to decide what you want to try... eating, ma'am." Ruby said, a little bit of a concerned look rolling across her face as she walked past Painite, likely leading the two down the stairs.

"Oh, I see...I think." She said gently, nodding slowly as she looked at both Lapis and Ruby in tandem. She watched Ruby walk out into the hallway. "Lead the way to this Fry stand! I am much looking forward to trying out human food, even though perhaps the outcome of it is...not as fun as the eating part itself." She hummed in thought, stepping out into the hallway and watching Ruby for a moment, before turning her gaze back to Lapis. "Do many other gems go and eat at the...Fry Stand?"
She'd asked this question for two reasons. One being, she wanted to know if there would be other Gems there, and, two, because she wanted to not be caught off guard if there was another Gem there that would attack her! She didn't like being caught off guard, not at all...

This Site will likely have unmarked Spoilers for the entirety of the Steven Universe Franchise, it is recommended that you go watch the show if you have not already before looking around the site.
Note: This Roleplay is an AU to Steven Universe, with its own Story to tell that will deviate from the show. While the show focused on Rose’s Son Steven, The RP instead presents an AU, where Rose started the rebellion conflict in modern day instead of 6000 years ago, and the story focuses on the conflict between the Homeworld loyalists, and Crystal Gem Rebels.
For a more detailed timeline please look at
Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
•Within the Show, Rose Quartz Rebelled against Homeworld 6000 years ago. On the Site she waited and only started the rebellion in 2013
•In the Show, Pink Diamond was Shorter then the other Diamonds, and only had a short time commanding her Colony before the rebellion started. On the Site, as Rose Hesitated, Pink has had several thousands of years experience in managing her colony, and additionally is of a height and stature the same as Blue and Yellow Diamond.
•In the Show, the Colony was very early in production before the rebellion happened, thus explaining the lack of frequent Gem structures on Earth. In the Roleplay, the Earth has the same amount of Gem structures as the show, buts its because construction on Pink's colony was very slow due to Earth being on the furthest Edge of the Gem empire
•In the Show, the Crystal Temple was implied to have been built after the Rebellion, On the Site, its implied to have been retrofitted from a Homeworld Temple structure.
