She held fast as the creatures struggled against her loose hold on them, and she was visibly shaking, gritting her teeth as strands of disheveled hair floated into her field of vision. She gasped as she simply ran out of plasma to keep adding to the pile, and Jazz zipped passed her, crashing through to their first foe with a final hit. Dust blew out across the cavern, and the sapphire stood open-mouthed and dazed for a few fleeting seconds, until she saw the figure of the jasper standing victorious atop the pile of rubble.
"Yes!" She cheered, forgetting the adversity that had been between them short moments ago. Her whole body was weakened, and she couldn't tell if it was her legs shaking, or the floor, until Jazz turned to her with an expression of dire concern.
"Leave? B-but--" Padparadscha's words fumbled, suddenly realizing that she hadn't even been able to add to the maps. Her eyes darted toward Jazz's hand, clenched around the dark gem of the corruption. Maybe that will be my ticket? But...will the jasper relinquish it? The sapphire thought, then gave an exhausted look to Jazz. Finally, a curt nod. "Lets get out of here,"
Jazz was glad that the Sapphire was being cooperative, she really needed that about now. The other corruption needed to be taken care of temporarily.... Hopefully the Sapphire would listen to her again.
"Padparadscha, you go on ahead towards the exit. I am going to make sure you get out of here, and then I will follow behind you alright? If you do not see me following, I need you to keep going anyway; Not that it should be hard for you to abandon a rebel." Jazz was stern as she spoke until her last comment, which she said with a smirk and a lighter tone.
Jazz revved up another Spin Dash with her Helmet being used to increase the impact. She slammed into the remaining corruption that Padparadscha had been holding back, forcing it deeply into the cavern wall. She hoped she bought them enough time to get out of there as she disengaged from the corruption and started to follow the Sapphire.
On one hand, if she left Jazz behind, that would mean that she could simply let this be put behind her once and for all, and forget this rebel who had lobbed her views upon the sapphire. On the other, Jazz still possessed the corrupted gem-- something Padparadscha would dearly like to have for her samples. If she could present the gem in question to the court, it would solve the mystery all at once. Even so, it still made Padparadscha feel ill to think of leaving someone in the midst of battle without back up. I might as well return the favor, she thought.
She held her ground, and uttered through her breathy, tired voice,"This isn't your mission, don't set yourself up for sacrifices that you don't need to make. I'll watch your back, Jazz,"
Using the final effort she could muster, she made sure the second corrupted gem was sealed to the wall as best as it could be. She wanted to flee, and took a few instinctive steps back, but managed to keep her eyes peeled on the cavern, "Lets move!" She called, over the screeching of the remaining corruption, and the sound that shadowed the arrival of new foes.
Jazz was actually proud of Padparadscha. She really did have a good heart underneath that passionately loyal exterior. Jazz makes sure that the Sapphire is still moving as she catches up. The creatures howling behind her definitely motivated her to move. She keeps moving behind Padparadscha, making sure they both get out. Once their steps were retraced and she saw outside the blizzard was weaker but not subsided. She looked at Padparadscha and took a deep breath. Hopefully this did not come off the wrong way...
"I need you to trust what I am about to do and not melt my face off."
Jazz wrapped herself around the small Sapphire, making sure that she was protected. She made sure that her bubbled gem was safe and would stay secure, then she took a tumble off of the cliff-side. She knew this was about to hurt.
((OOC: Please determine how far we fall, just arbitrarily. And just to clarify, with this setup: The bubbled gem and Padparadscha will both be fine, Jazz will take the fall damage. Probably needing to pop her prevent-a-poof- (Patent Pending) ))
The small corundum didn't have much energy left in her, this was more confrontation than she'd dealt with in eons. In the past, she had been completely shielded from such circumstances by her entourages-- but nowadays, with the galaxy warp cut off and communications going slower than usual, it was harder for headquarters to spare extra soldiers for missions that were suppose to be quick. Yes, it had been a dangerous place for research, but her manager never expected her to get in a full-on squabble with a...well, a traitor. It was suppose to be a careful traipse in looking for something, anything for headquarters to use to determine what they were dealing with here.
Now, Padparadscha knew that she had lucked out when she met a traitor with such audacity as to stick their neck out for an enemy. She had something to bring back to Headquarters, provided she could convince Jazz to hand it over. She looked up at the Jasper as she spoke, and narrowed her eyes, "trust you?" she managed, her eyes widening when she was again lifted off of her feet. She cringed, fearful of whatever unexpected thing Jazz was to pull next. "How could I tru-- What are you--" She watched the darkness of the cave disappear over the side of the cliff as the air began to rush around them, and her stomach churned as she screamed,"What are you doing!"
The seconds-long decent felt much longer to the sapphire, who now missed the comfort of having her own two feet on the ground. Straight down the sheer face of the cliff, there was nothing below but the hard gravel foothills that drained down into the taiga forest. "Uff!" The wind was knocked straight out of her as the jasper's back impacted the ground, her heavy form smacking against the loose rock. The precarious hill began to unravel, and the two of them went sliding down into the trees followed by the rest of the gravel.

Jazz figured she would hear a bit of protest right before she fell off of the cliff. She really hoped that she was protecting both gems as well as she thought she was. How far away is the ground by now she wondered? It seems like she has been falling for a while no-- "Ugh!" Well... she finally hit the ground at least... All of the wind was knocked out of her as she slammed into the ground back-first. She started sliding down the hillside and trying her best to slide around trees. She knew she would withstand the fall, but she forgot how much it would hurt... At least they got away from the corrupted gems...
Jazz finally skidded to a slow halt after the long fall, she was relieved it was over for now. She gently opened her arms and allowed Padparadscha to leave her protective grasp. She kept ahold of the bubbled gem, taking a moment to get her second wind. She was sure that the Sapphire knew that the fall should have poofed Jazz, if not shattered her. She smirked to herself, what reaction would she get from the Sapphire she wondered.
"Are--Are you a-alright?" Jazz asked, panting softly.
Adrenaline coursed through her as she stumbled forward, and whipped around to face the jasper who laid, covered in gravel dust and pine-needles. "No!" Padparadscha said, her tone harsh as her mind raced,"Both of us should be shattered right now! I--I--" She paced around, her ire growing in the wake of everything they'd just been through. She looked down at her shaking hands, wondering how any of this could even be real. "I don't know how, but we're alive," She said, more calm now. The sapphire gave Jazz a hard look. "You're insane. Whose side are you on anyway? You commit treason to your...rebel alliance...by saving me, do you not?"
Her eyes widened, and she check her samples-- one of the tubes had been crushed, and her brows came together in a look of devastation. Still, she had another, and her eyes shifted to the gem in Jazz's grasp. How am I going to get it? Will she just...let me have it? Padparadscha had no idea what to expect, so she simply stood her ground to wait and see what this soldier's next move would be.

Jazz internally laughed to herself, is she insane? Probably. Jazz stood up and dusted herself off, was it treason to save her? Meh, it was the right thing to do regardless. She would talk it over with the Crystal Gems if she needed to, she was sure they would understand somewhat. Well, now that she felt better about this whole thing she looked them both over. The Sapphire kept looking at the bubbled gem in her hand... now that was odd. Homeworld wants information on the corruptions just like the Crystal Gems... Hmm...
"You are right, we should both be shattered. I am just extremely durable for a gem, even a soldier gem. I am probably insane but I saved your life three times, so at least I am kind hearted. Saving you was the right thing to do, and that is what matters, treason or not." Jazz shrugs to herself. "I would like to think I earned some answers from you, and you can ask me a few more things if you want. Keep in mind I am not going to tell you everything and undermine my cause but I will be open with you."
Jazz sits back down on the ground to be at more of an eye to eye situation with the little gem, considering the massive height difference. Jazz has a very open air about her, welcoming questioning and some company if the Sapphire was going to be civil.
Her eyes narrowed, and her jaw set. This gem was so open with her, an enemy, and it was setting her on edge. Padparadscha's truth sense told her that the gem wasn't trying to hide from her-- she was just throwing everything out into the open. This tactic wasn't something she was use to, but she also wouldn't fall prey to it. This gem wasn't her friend, there was no reason for her be. Suddenly, everything seemed to make more sense as she scrutinized the words coming out of the jasper's mouth.
"So this is why you went out of your way," The sapphire contemplated out-loud, pacing back and forth with her chin rested on her knuckles, "You want information." Still, Padparadscha needed that gem, and she was certain that Jazz was going to use it for leverage. She knew that jasper's didn't possess abilities like her own, and the noble gem considered that she might be able to manipulate the situation to her favor. For now she didn't mention the bubbled gem, despite her eyeing of it. I'll play your game, Padparadscha thought scathingly, before continuing aloud-- "What answers would you like?"

Jazz sighed, of course she would take what she said that way. Oh well, she is just going to have to prove her wrong again.
"If I wanted information, I could have threatened you. I could have forced it from you, I could currently be dragging you to the Crystal Gems so that they could extract the information from you. Besides the fact that I hate needless violence, I really did just simply care what happened to you. You are from Homeworld so you hate me, think that I am wrong about everything, that I always have an ulterior motive. But I don't, I really am only asking for info now because I am curious why you would risk your life for whatever Homeworld wanted from you. You knew there were creatures and yet you came alone. It seems odd to me is all, so I am curious what drives you. I just like learning and talking to you about this is a learning experience, just like seeing you actually put aside our differences for a little bit in that cave. I actually had hope that you saw more than just a rebel, you saw a gem, one you disagreed with but a gem nonetheless. So I am curious about your mission and why out here of all places, and why on your own?" Jazz stayed genuine throughout her short speech to the little gem, and she could pick up that the last question, the on your own bit, seems to mean more to Jazz than the rest of it. "If you do not want to answer and you just want to head back to Homeworld's base, feel free. I would hate to keep you..." Jazz looks like she is now internalizing something.
Padparadscha's brows drifted upward as she listened to Jazz, her lip almost pulled back into a sneer, but she kept her expression cold. From her eons of existence, the sapphire knew there was always an ulterior motive-- even if the gem in question didn't realize it. From her vantage point, it was clear what Jazz's motive was in this discussion, at least she liked to think it. "You want to know why I came alone?" The true answer to that question would be much more revealing of Homeworld's current state than Padparadscha cared to put in words for Jazz. The fact that soldiers couldn't be spared for many of her research missions was because of the Crystal Gem attack on their warps, and the communications hub. But she wasn't about to tell that to this jasper, only to fluff up a traitor's ego. Instead, she pursed her lips, and spoke a different truth. "I'm good at what I do, my manager knows it. Usually, I can avoid such confrontation. But this time, I suppose you could say my lone-mission was compromised."
The sapphire smirked,"Now, you'll answer one of my requests?" She pointed to the gem in Jazz's hand,"This creature needs to be identified and contained. I hardly think that your Crystal gems have the facilities to do so,"

Jazz thinks to herself about the Sapphire... she is not unwise and can tell that this gem wants to weasel her way around direct answers. Perhaps what she said was true, but that was not even close to all of it. The switch in manner of this gem was odd to her, in the cave she had some semblance of sympathy but out here she seems to lack it. Interesting... "I am new remember, I would not know. I just know that we also want to know what is causing the corruption, we have people who could probably learn from this gem just like Homeworld. Unlike Homeworld we would recognise it was still a gem and not a creature like you are treating it. And I said questions not requests."
Jazz wants to pull that more... person-esque quality back out of her but she is unsure how...
"So why am I back to being a rebel as opposed to another gem once we are out here? You seemed to be opposed to violence like I am but the detesting manner you carry yourself with and your words say that we are back to the status quo. Manipulative or not, I am curious who you are, not your facade you use in court."
Again, she felt indignation rising in her. She wasn't use to being talked to like this, and she could see that this jasper didn't have a sense for their station in the caste-- typical of rebels. Jazz refused to give her the gem...that meant another confrontation might have to ensue, should Padparadscha acquire the only means of calling this mission a successful one. She couldn't wrap her head around the jasper's sentimentality, or why they were doing this. "We both needed to survive. We did, and now here we are," She said, stilted,"A court affiliate, and a committer of treason. You're a gem, an excellently built one at that. The honors you would have had, if only you had served your purpose. Yet, you choose to throw it all away. For what?-- That is a rhetorical question-- because in all honesty, it doesn't matter for what you cause this conflict between your own."
She couldn't stop herself from saying what she really believed, even if that meant stifling her chances to grab at the gem in question. It was true, she didn't like fighting, but she would if she was forced into a corner. She wouldn't leave the surface of the Earth until she had something to show her Diamond. If this Jazz were to leave her stranded, without the literal and figurative gem of this mission, she would have to climb back up the mountain and try once more. This time, without contrivances.
"Who am I? I am Padparadscha 10C8A 8QA, proud and ready to serve those who gave me life and meaning. Nothing more, nothing less. I do what I have been expertly designed for, and as I've said, I do it well. I appreciate your help, however suspect-- so if you give me the gem, I'll forget all of this, and I wont include you in my reports,"
Jazz starts to give in to her anger, but then she thinks: She thinks about it and she remembers her time with Homeworld... Every time she asked why they fight, every lecture and threat of shattering, every remark on the difference she had within her. Jazz let her shoulders slump slightly... Why was she trying to even convince this gem to give her a chance? She is a Homeworld gem, no different from the rest... Except each of them is different, even if they act for the purpose they were made... Jazz has a small swell of confidence.
"I do not care if I am put in your report... as long as you actually say what happened. That I did actually help you and put our differences aside. I do not care if Homeworld knows the truth. So I am willing to make you a deal... I am willing to give you the gem, if I also know what you find out. I genuinely want to help the corrupted gems and I believe they could be saved. If you do not want to take that deal, then I bring this gem to the Crystal Gems and, if you will actually work with me here, I will tell you what we figure out. Either way... we both learn more about these gems, to our own ends and nothing to leverage against the other. If you take neither deal... have fun going back in there because as much as I want to protect you... I am willing to. Walk. Away." Jazz was entirely honest through all of what she said, even the part at the end, despite her previous behavior. Jazz looks intently at the Sapphire, giving her time to think.
This jasper was an odd one, to be sure. That had already been apparent, but the sapphire let out a heavy sigh. Jazz could've easily dispatched of her, or captured her-- Padparadscha wasn't made for fighting, and she wasn't good at it either. Against a soldier like Jazz, she imagined she would crumple. Yet, instead of turning her prowess against the Homeworld patrician, the jasper had, bewilderingly, been her shield against what could've been a dark demise for her.
"You...want to know about this gem?" She managed, through her conflicted confusion,"You'll give it to me if I tell you the results?" this was a stellar proposition. On one hand, she didn't imagine that Jazz had a way off-planet, so even if the sapphire did decide not to cooperate, there was no leverage to this situation. She realized that the gem's intentions must be as completely genuine and sentimental as they seemed, for her to offer such a proposition that relinquished her bargaining chip. "If I put you in my reports, you'll have a bounty on you once the connection is made in our files. My manager will not care about your intentions, however...authentic they are. But-- if you can give me the coordinates to a communicator, I'll be willing to share with you the results of our research back at HQ,"
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
