His snake idea wasn't bad, but the movement was incredibly complex. His companion's idea was much simpler yet effective. Instead of snakes she chose a lizard. It was really good thinking.
"Nice one, this should work well."
He was mostly transforming into birds, dragons and other things like that. Transforming into lizards was something he didn't try yet, but it should work. He concentrated a little and then shaped his body into a nice, bright orange lizard. It was strange to have four legs but the movement wasn't an issue anymore.
"So, shall we go forward? Let'sssssss go check."
His weird tongue made talking difficult, but it was also fun. A new experience was always something interesting. And the best thing was, that for others they should be just normal animal...
She gave a nod, then turned back to look into the room. The perspective from her now low-slung stature as a lizard was a bit different than it had been as a squirrel, but there was nothing new about this particular room to notice. Four legs instead of two was certainly awkward, she was somewhat embarrassed at her own clumsiness. But, she didn't let it bother her too much, Chip didn't seem like one to judge too harshly. With that, she attempted to do as she'd seen geckos do before, and planted her forefeet on the wall. She tried to climb up, but found herself slipping down. It appeared that she hadn't been privy to the secrets that kept the gecko stuck to vertical surfaces after all.
Instead, she opted to skirt around the edge of the room, until she came to an opening that lead into a dim hall, allowing only the light from the balcony to fade into it. She stood still on one side of the opening for a moment, then peered around the corner. The hall was similarly decorated, and similarly in ruins. Other doorways dotted the walls, and each end of the hall split down into different corridors. She blinked, and scanned the corridor for signs of movement, listening carefully. It seemed that the coast was clear, for now-- but the close quarters could mean that anything could come from anywhere. They'd have to stay on their toes.

The universe certainly had some strange sense of humour. Few years ago he was a pariah amongst his own kind, broken piece who couldn't fit. Few months ago he was apprentice of elite assassin of Blue Diamond and his single heir. And right now? Well he was a lizard running around with a envoy of Pink Diamond who turned herself into a gecko... Surely a course of events who nobody could predict. Heh, he would like to see what Sapphire would say to this.
They were running through the corridors. At first, it was a wee bit difficult, but he quickly adapted and now he was quite able to control his four legs without an issue. Fortunately, so far, it seemed that this place was empty. But he was still alerted. He was looking for some traces of gems or corrupted gems. So far it appeared safe... yet he was still worried. Not for himself but for his companion...
Padparadscha kept her eyes and ears open, scrutinizing everything she saw for any kind of evidence. The halls of the temple were cool and dew-laden from the morning air that still lingered within, despite the growing influence of the sun on the landscape outside. The quietness of the place began to bother her, it seemed the shuffling of small lizard feet was the loudest thing in this end of the temple, aside from the whistling draft. She was sure to peer into the rooms they passed, but all were similar to the first the two gems had entered the complex through. Plain, and a shadow of what it once was or could have been.
Something else that troubled her was the fact that she couldn't practically use her evidence diagnostics in this form-- if the two of them did happen across some activity, she would have to contrive some manner to get her video recording to roll, while also seeming like a natural creature of Earth. As far as she knew, lizards weren't proficient with technology like some of their Earthling neighbors. With a lack of spaces for them to take cover in, she hoped that she could collect needed data physically.
She stopped as the hall came to a split; they had to choose whether to go left or right. Her instincts told her that staying on the exterior of the building would keep them away from the most valuable of evidence, but it would also keep them away from the most dangerous of possibilities. She glanced to Chip, for an indication of his input.

Chip was far better at watching from above, being a lizard was strange. He was seeing all kinds of things, but nothing useful. He saw nothing, that would indicate a presence of gems. Corrupted gems usually left a lot of claw marks all around the place. Shards of shattered gems... and a lot of mess. This place looked quite well so far.
This wasn't his style... he would just charge inside, head first, blasted all monsters with his fire... and problem solved. He was nothing like Morion in this aspect. He said the same thing to Padparadscha once she looked at him with a question in her eye.
"Don't worry, if comes to fight I will protect you... I would follow the right path..."
The right path would lead deeper into the temple, and possibly into the fray. But, it seemed that Chip was ready to take that plunge. The sapphire herself wasn't sure, there were many variables to consider. Things seemed quiet now, but Earth changed its mind on a dime, anything could happen. If trouble were to show itself here, it was reassuring to know that her last-minute hire would be ready to face whatever that trouble might be. She peered into the right hall. It stretched on, getting darker the further away from the more open and well lit exterior that it went.
She gave a curt nod. "Stay sharp, but we can hope it doesn't come to that," She looked back at Chip. It was hard to say whether their voices carried far here, but she whispered nonetheless. Padpara stepped out into the hall, skirting along the edge as she did before. With her eyes scanning the hall carefully, she noticed that there was less dust here-- though it wasn't direct evidence of anything in particular, perhaps it meant there was simply more of a draft in this hall. Part of her hoped that the place would be completely empty after all, though the other part of her loathed to think that they'd run through the whole temple and never find any kind of lead. Either way would have an unpleasant shade to it, and she tried to remember what the particular words on her dossier had said.
The place was a suspected haven for rebels-- yet it seemed dormant. Supposedly gems had been spotted by previous scouting teams. Still, there hadn't been enough evidence to make that confirmation. She didn't want to doubt the validity of that previous work, so perhaps the place had been simply abandoned since then.

As they were going further Chip instantly noticed a change. This place was getting... cleaner. It almost surly meant, that no Corrupted monster lived here. Well at least not in this particular part of this complex. Some gems might live here... or at least stayed here for some time. It might be dangerous after all...
Chip noticed few additional details. There were some debris swept away from the corridor to it's sides, so somebody had to went this way and cleared it. But he had no idea if it was recent or not.
"Somebody was here... but I can't say how long ago... but if someone is here I think we might be getting closer..."
He said quietly while he scurried alongside the wall...
It became clear that the wind hadn't been what swept these halls-- it appeared that, as Chip had pointed out, someone was making a concentrated effort to tidy the place up. She was stricken with tension as she realized that this meant there could indeed be other gems about, who might recognize the two of them for what they were given the fact that organic lizards didn't typically have gems. However, she banked on the fact that the two of them were pulling off the guise fairly well. The sapphire didn't know how much longer she'd be able to stick it out as a reptile, given that she'd never really shifted to this extent before, but for now it seemed to be very manageable for her.
She slowed as they came up on another inlet along the hall. The sapphire peered in, then shrank back as she realized she'd caught sight of something inside. More cautiously, she looked back in and scanned the room-- a seating arrangement had been laid out, though it appeared empty for the time being. It was a pile of cushions woven in naturalistic tones, some fringed with sheer fabrics or embroidered with intricate designs. How long had these been sitting there? It was hard to say from a distance, so she gave the room a final pass over before slipping in to get a closer look at the fabric.
Her excitement grew; the swept debris, and this empty seating area, gave her a good amount of evidence. However, as she'd contemplated before, it would be difficult to actually grab the data without compromising her cover. She decided she would worry about it after having a good look at the fibers that made up the seats.

Finally they found something worth exploring. He was slowly following the sapphire, prepared to transform back to his form and fight in an instant. Instead of a horde of enemy gem or corrupted monster they found... a pile of cushions? That wasn't exactly what he expected to find here but it at least meant that somebody was here... recently enough so there wasn't a layer of dust on it yet.
He wasn't equip to do any kind of scanning so he just continued a small distance ahead. Not far enough to loose visual on sapphire, but perhaps he could find something... or someone?
In some way it would be better if they found a corrupted monster, he could just blast it... but if they find a Crystal Gem... he wouldn't want to harm anyone...
She scurried behind the pile of upholstery so that she couldn't be spotted from the door, and trusted that Chip was keeping an eye out. Then summoned her holoscreen and began a diagnostic check on the fibers that made up one of the cushions. Data points flitted across the screen, and the sapphire watched them carefully, taking note of the numbers that rolled across. Her eyes narrowed as the numbers came to suggest that these were not only manufactured recently, but it could also be seen from looking at them that they were kept clean by someone.
"I'm going to get a sample of this," She announced quietly. It was difficult to do so in the guise of a lizard, so she prepared to take a chance and form back into her usual shape. However, before she did, she heard the rhythmic tapping of feet coming from somewhere down the hall. A jolt of adrenaline hit, and she fumbled to put her holoscreen away before frantically searching for somewhere to hide. The pink gecko slipped under the cushions, and hoped that whoever was on their way would walk passed the room.
At the same time, it grated at her that she couldn't covertly have her evidence roll going. Whoever was coming down the hall was certainly proof in of themselves that someone stayed in this temple-- and they weren't authorized to do so by Homeworld.

Chip didn't find anything, but he was still on guard. His companion needed time to do her analysis and he was keep on providing that. So when he heard someone was approaching them, he just turned into a bat and quickly flew to the ceiling. He was waiting for... whoever it was to com closer. Not close enough to see into the room though.
His plan was simple, crazy and probably was going to fail horribly. But sometimes easiest plans were the best ones. He was just hanging upside down, waiting, waiting and waiting some more. Until the mystery person wasn't really close. At that moment he just fell down, directly at mystery person's head, where he started to move his wings all around, hopefully completely surprising and confusing his target...
From where she was, the sapphire couldn't see what was going on, and it put her on edge. When the tapping of feet drew nearer, her whole body became tense. It was mostly giddiness from the prospect that she'd be able to bag some significant evidence after all; this would certainly reflect well on her report. However, she would have to be careful. Just as she peeked up from the cushions to get a look at the oncoming stranger, the gem rounded the corner into the room. Padpara's eyes widened-- Chip dove straight into the gem's face. She had no idea what to do; if she stayed put, Chip could get into a compromised situation, but if she revealed herself, it might compromise the objective.
"Ugh!" the strange gem flailed their arms around and stumbled back through the hall,"G-get off me!" The pressure for her to act grew, though it was hard to tell if the gem had recognized Chip as a fellow gem-- perhaps it would be better to wait. But, she wasn't the kind of gem who could do that, she decided she would have to give him some back up. Just as she slipped out from the cushions, the other gem fled, the tap of running feet echoed down the hall along with her voice. "Leave me alone! What'd I do to you huh?!"
Though there was a short relief. But now, she could confirm it to herself-- this place harbored unauthorized gems. While that gem was distracted and none the wiser, the pink lizard went to work gathering a sample from a cushion.

Chip tried to catch a glimpse of the gem but it was difficult, since he was a bat in his face right now. It was actually kinda fun, in a weird way. Chip had enough work with simply not falling to the ground, but if this missions should remain covert he had to scare him away without the gem realising, that he got attacked by a gem, not simply an Earth bat.
Fortunately it seemed it worked. As the gem was leaving Chip flew back to the ceiling, hopefully he gave Pad. enough time to complete what she needed to complete. One thing was obvious - there were at least one gem staying here at the moment. And where was one could easily be more...
She managed to tear off a piece of the cushion and get it contained in a bubble, then sent it off. However, her stress level sky-rocketed due to the new knowledge that she and Chip had acquired. It wasn't clear if that gem was going to come back, nor was it clear if there were other's-- but there were many possibilities. As she finished up her diagnostic check here, she knew there was more compelling evidence to pursue that had gone running through the temple.
Still in her original guise, the sapphire pranced up to the door, and looked both ways. The coast seemed to be clear, so she drew back and gave Chip a nod. "I want video confirmation of that gem," She whispered up to the bat. Anything they could get, even if it was just a glimpse, could be enough for the diagnostic teams to recognize and ID the gem-- or anyone else they found in the temple. Then, she could come back with a warrant.

"That will be a problem, I am afraid I have nothing that would allow me to capture a video. The only technology I have with me is my gem communicator, but it doesn't have a camera inside..."
That was problematic. He could't just shape shift his hand into camera... perhaps someone might, but he surely couldn't. He could be stealthy enough to capture this video, but he lacked the tools... "If you can provide some I should be able to do so... otherwise we are out of luck I'm afraid..."
The only other thing he could do was to just watch them... and hopefully be ale to remember them... though that was probably not enough. Why it was important anyway? This temple wasn't used by Homeworld... most of them wasn't... there was no organised Homeworld force on Earth... was it?

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.

*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
