"As far as I know all gems should be able to shape-shift. It's weird... having this ability and not using it... I mean if Diamonds didn't want us to transform why giving us the ability? Wouldn't that be a terrible waste of resources?"
He asked. He wasn't blindly loyal to Diamonds, though he deeply wanted to be accepted by Pink Diamond. His conscious and unconscious thought weren't quite on the same page when it came to this topic. He knew, that Diamonds were basically intergalactic slavers and tyrants... yet he on some level he needed their approval... it was weird... "Yeah... I was underestimated few times before... didn't go that well for them after that... give me an advantage in combat and I will take it... and use it to the max... "
He was really proud that he turned out to be a good warrior in spite of his... dispositions...
Though she knew that Chip was disconnected from Homeworld culture, she found his phrasing to be something of a front. To suggest that the Diamonds could be wasteful at all was something that wouldn't sit well with her no matter the context. Over the course of knowing this gem she had figure him to be a dutiful member of her Diamond's court. She did notice that he had some rebellious tendencies; but he was a good soldier, one that needed to be kept on the right side of things, so she'd have to find a way to change the course of this train of thought.
"Well," She began, clasping her hands behind her back,"Shifting ones form is a part of the innate programming of gemkind, as a part of our photon-dense forms. It serves to make us the complex, multifaceted and useful beings that we are. Indeed, I'm not expected to use shape shifting, but I have nonetheless found a use for it today-- where would I be if the Diamonds hadn't intended for my shape to change? Our rulers wish us to use our talents to the best of our abilities, if we do that then nothing has been wasted," She gave a smile, and paced up to the door to check out into the hall before stepping back to face the fire opal, "From what you say and from what I've seen, you use your abilities well. Always use what comes to your advantage and to the advantage of Pink Diamond," With a nod, she concluded her thought, hoping that Chip would take away the right message from her words.

Chip was thinking for a moment.
"So... we might not be intended to shape-shift, but if it helps us even once it's worth it. I guess that's nice from the Diamonds. You're probably right... shape-shifting is a useful tool to have... and useful in most situations..."
"From what I gathered we, Fire Opals, are made to always get the job done... we have plenty of tools - great firepower, healing, the power of flight, shape-shifting... and we are too bloody hard to make to get ourselves killed. To the point that apparently we can survived with most of our minds blank, our gems chipped and still get ourselves to be helpful. I call that a good craftsmanship. "
Was he bothered that he was suppose to be just a tool? He felt like he should... but he wasn't...
The sapphire let some of the tension in her drop as Chip's words seemed to indicate she'd been able to effectively communicate her point. Her brows floated up ever so slightly; she was so use to having to argue her ideals to Earth-bound gems that it came as a surprise to have him easily accept what she said. It was a happy surprise, and she was glad that she wouldn't have to see another good gem get caught up by whatever influence this planet had that made some gems turn on Homeworld.
"Indeed, I would agree," She said as he finished speaking,"You're the only fire opal I've had the chance to meet, and you're certainly a specialized cut of gem. I'll have to admit I'm not sure where the majority of them are stationed," Being that she was an aristocrat, it was something she felt she should have more knowledge about. There would have been some insight she was sure Chip would appreciate if it were otherwise, unless of course he already had an idea about that.
Despite how much she liked conversation, the fact that they were idle was pressing on her mind. Her mind wandered on the mission, and there was the matter of the enemy gem who had run off. What was she doing now? Padpara waited for a moment, before giving another nervous peek into the hallway.

"From what we gathered from the beta kinderkarten's network it seems, that when Kinderkartens were sabotaged it destroyed all the Fire Opals that were growing on Earth, with the sole exception of me. I just got chipped... seems like rebels really didn't want us flying around... "
It was strange, that even a gems, that were around for a long time never saw any Fire Opals... Morion, Sapphire, and now Padpara... neither of them saw any other Fire Opals...
"Perhaps Fire Opals are new cuts? Or really rare? I don't know... "
He noticed that she was a getting a bit twitchy. She probably hated being idle where there was mission to complete. Well even a hort time in one's intended form went a long way... "So... do you want to continue the mission?"
As she listened to Chip speak, her brows furrowed, and her lips pulled downward. The words served to fuel her hatred for the rebels; how could they do something so heinous to their own kind? Their actions had apparently wiped out an entire cut of gem, a waste of resources and life. This, along with what the young gem had previously shared about his inception, infuriated her. It charged her will to get back to the mission-- if this place served as any kind of base of operations or hide out for the rebels, she would want to find it out and present it to the nearest authority. For now, she had the strong urge to deal some retribution.
But, she wasn't eager to become victim to whatever strange side effects came along with inexperience in shape shifting. She turned to face the fire opal, trying to mask the ire that was storming up underneath her. "I'm sorry Chip, I wish I had more insight to share. Perhaps I'll have to ask the next beta kindergartener I see for more information about this matter. As for the mission, are you sure it's been long enough? I would like to get back on task, but that task would certainly be difficult to carry out if something went awry," Her eyes flickered between the door and the other gem.

"I am from the Prime Kindergarten, but it was looted beyond belief... nothing useful could be found over there. Fortunately there was some sort of network, and some details of the attack on the primary Kindergarten were logged in... still... we don't know for sure who attacked it and why... at first it seemed that it was a natural disaster - a landslide... then it looked like a rebel attack... but my rebel... uhm... contacts were hardly against the notion that it was their fault... so I don't really know..."
He said. Only Kinderkartener he met was a crazy Peridot who was creating gem drones by fusing shards of different gems. He poofed and bubbled her... and had no interest in speaking with her... "Not sure if it was enough time but I think so... enough to finish this mission. It shouldn't take too long... this place is not so big... and if something would come awry... well that's why I am here... isn't it?"
"Rebel contacts?" She said aloud, her thought-train derailed for a moment. Her brow twitched as she tried to keep her temper down. Perhaps there was more that could be garnered from this pit-stop than she previously anticipated-- if Chip had rebel contacts, she'd want to get information on them herself. But it still felt like a punch to the midriff to think that this young gem could have gotten tangled up with the affairs of traitors, especially after such a tragic story befell him. "If you've managed to establish connections to the rebels, I would suggest you be very careful. Writing a background report on said contacts could help to keep your name clear in this troubling time, if you haven't done so already. At any rate I doubt they would admit to such a heinous crime, but I wouldn't put it passed them. When I get back to base I'll see what I can find out,"
At Chips next words she gave a nod,"You're right, I suppose it's time to get back to it," With that she cleared her throat and readied herself to shift her shape. Though, nothing happened, and she blinked. "Hmm..." The sapphire rubbed her hands together, and stuck out her arms to prepare for taking the form of a four-legged lizard once again. She gave a little nervous laugh,"Ah, hold on, I got it..." Finally, she was enveloped in light, and shrank into the form she was going for. Then, she smiled,"There!"

For a moment Chip was surprised to hear things like "keeping his name clear". Only for a moment before he realised that she probably said that to get some information about rebellion. Chip never considered himself a rebel, but on some level he sympathised. He really wasn't sure where was his place on this chaotic game of chess...
"Thanks for the advice, but I think I can manage... I'm a survivor after all."
He said only while smiling. As he was watching his companion to transform into a lizard again he once more transformed into a bright orange parrot. It was probably much more believable than bright orange bat. His transformation was quick and effortless. He really was a pro at this.
For a moment the pink lizard eyed the gem she'd charged with this mission. She didn't know how to take the few words he'd given, and was somewhat off-put by the vagueness. There was no untruth to detect in what he had said, but it didn't sit well with her to have so little information, after she'd hoped to receive a more dense explanation. In these troubling times, it was hard to say who was truly friend or foe. Chip was, by her account, an upstanding gem. But there were those he would have to prove himself to further, especially given the time he'd spent on the surface. If he had rebel contacts, she wondered under what circumstances he'd met them, and what kind of influence they may have had on the young gem. She would have to keep a closer eye on this one-- the last thing she wanted was for him to be swayed toward the wrong cause, especially since he'd never even been given a chance to meet the Diamond he seemed to so dutifully serve.
"Hmm, well, look out for yourself, soldier," She said with a carefully light tone,"I'm sure you'll do fine, but I just wouldn't want you to come under the scrutiny of an inquisitor. Be careful with these contacts of yours," With that, she turned toward the exit, and peered out to get a lay of the area and make sure no one was approaching. In a quiet moment, she listened for footsteps, and heard nothing, so she turned to face the bright orange parrot,"Lets move,"

Chip blanked few times. He never heard about any inquisitors. "An inquisitor? Who is that?"
He wasn't afraid about some inquisitor, because he was young, stupid and very powerful, which was an incredibly dangerous combination. He was quickly following the lizard. The fact was, that Chip was pretty sure he could take on anyone. He defeated foes several times his size, he defeated groups of monsters. The small fact that he got impaled and poofed several times wasn't really that important for him... "Fine, lead on and I will follow... if any danger appears let me deal with it... but who would attack a lizard and a parrot?"
So far the most dangerous thing on this mission was a broom...
She took internal note, and spoke quietly as she moved on through the halls, keeping her eyes peeled for signs of gem activity. "Well, an inquisitor is a special war-time interrogator. Though there hasn't been an official declaration of war, it pays to have gems specialized in the specific discipline of discerning friend from foe in tense situations like that of this defection issue here on Earth. Basically, if you were approached by an inquisitor, its most likely that they would test your loyalty, and it would be best for you to be completely honest with them," An inquisitor like those she spoke of would likely have similar powers to her own. Though she was an interrogator in her time on the Moonbase, her field work generally took up too much time for her to dedicate herself to any kind of inquisition-- though, who was to say that Pink Diamond wouldn't give her that application when the time came?
"True Chip, we are an unassuming group to be sure," She commented at his last statement. As she did, the hall opened up into a large central chamber. She stopped short of entering it, and swept the room with her eyes. There was definitely evidence that gems had been here recently, though there was no telling how many or who they were; artifacts of seemingly human origin, the uses of which she couldn't interpret, decorated the room.

This inquisitor guy sounded like trouble. The only strange thing that came to mind was - why weren't there dozens of them running on Earth right now, inquisitoring every gem on the planet? "I am always honest... I am not ashamed of what I am or what I do... so there is no reason to lie about anything. Sometimes I just refuse to talk about something... mostly if it's unpleasant... but I am quite honest about why I don't want to talk about it..."
He said. Yes, he had friends among rebels... nobody asked him about it, but if someone asked him directly he wouldn't lie about it.
They entered next room, which was full of human stuff. Seemed like some gems tried to make this place as homely as possible. Chip decided to be quite vigilant...
"Good," She responded simply, and her sense told her that the gem was being genuine. That was enough reassurance for her, she wanted to believe that this defender was entirely on the side of Homeworld-- if he had contacts within rebel ranks, she assumed it was for the purpose of espionage. Quite ambitious for this young gem to be delving into such capers without orders to do so, but that only made her feel more confident in Chip's ability to serve his Diamond.
Though, now she wanted to prevent her voice from projecting around the cavernous room they'd entered. She brought out her holoscreen and began to document the place. It was beyond any doubt now that there were gems who regularly visited this place, though there was still very little evidence that it was any kind of headquarters-- both of the Crystal Gem and Broken Gem headquarters eluded Homeworld's watchful eyes, much to the sapphire's chagrin. But if these bases could be located, with would be another step toward the Diamond Authority's victory.
"We need some kind of indication that this might be a base of operations, if you find anything, let me know," She whispered, keeping her eyes on the doors that lined the room. They would have to work fast; if this was a central chamber, the likelihood of being caught here was much higher than anywhere else. As she went back to her own search, her eyes caught movement-- a tapestry on the other side of the room seemed to flutter in her periphery. She narrowed her gaze, put away the holoscreen, and went over to investigate.

"You know that the easiest way to find out would be to draw everyone in... I can easily attack this place, force everyone here to either flee or defend it... either way we will get what we want..."
It was easier than this sneaking... also felt much more direct. Chip liked direct approach. But he understood that this Sapphire was much smarter... and if she thought that sneaking was better option she was probably true. He instead made quick aerial reconnaissance of this room. Though he wasn't quite sure what he was searching for... they knew this was a gem base... but what could tell them more? A giant banner saying "This is a base of XY" would come in handy....
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.

*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
