Padparadscha kept her eyes on things, impassively assessing the new gem among them, while Jasper became inconsolably irritated; her arms crossed over her chest and she shook her head with a sneer. It was one thing that they hadn't yet taken down the rebels already present, but now the loyalists appeared to be outnumbered.
As the Orange Goldstone addressed her, 3JJ's lip pulled to the side in a half-hearted attempt to show politeness to this gem, who seemed not to realize what the dynamic here was just yet. "Oh yeah?" Jasper replied sarcastically, in her mind she continued; Orange Goldstone just might get her wish, depending on what direction Padparadscha would give.
The sapphire managed to give a cordial smile to the gem, and a curtsy. She was a margin surprised by the fact that Orange had recognized her, most didn't know she was a sapphire let alone a Padparadscha, but a few more refined gems might have the background knowledge to know her. After she stood from her curtsy, her hands clasped in front of her,"A pleasure to make your acquaintance. It would seem you've been rescued from your entrapment," She stated in a modulated tone, then tilted her head slightly as her eyes flicked between Blue and Orange,"It would also seem that you two are acquainted already?" She wondered if this was the true reason why Blue had come here in the first place, or if it had been unknown to her as well.
Orange nodded. "We're from the same cut and facet, she popped out right next to me." Orange said and grinned at Blue, who grinned back. "I'm a goldstone, like Blue over there." Orange explained, that explained her size compared to even Blue, she stood over Blue by a whole foot, it would have been easy to mistake her for a fusion from just her silhouette, only being a few inches shorter than Labradorite.
"Yet somehow, I am not nearly as good in combat as her." Blue stated and shrugged, Opalite only stared up at Orange in awe, she had never seen a gem, other than the diamonds, that was bigger than Blue, she knew not to be afraid of Orange, as Orange and Blue seemed like family, they were loyal to each other. "Wait..." Orange looked around at the two sides. "You seemed to have been working together, but, you're not on the same side of this war..." She squinted at Blue and turned her body just slightly, the gold star of the Crystal Gems could be seen on her right arm from the homeworlders' point of view, her gem sat embedded into the back of her right hand, that spiked gauntlet would be devastating to take a hit from as it was much bigger than her hand and had a mechanism that allowed it to shoot forward just a few inches to allow for even more force behind a punch.
Padparadscha's eyesbrows quirked, this gem seemed to have a uncanny nose for such things, as she and her bodyguard hadn't gone out of her way to make it obvious who she worked for, but for the insignia's of their Diamond. Pink Diamond was her cause, and as she had concluded before, Homeworld would have their eventual victory-- there was no need for her to stretch herself thin trying to destroy rebels, as it wasn't her place or objective currently. In the past she would've stopped at nothing to try to detain them, but the sapphire now knew better than to try such a thing, with so few advantages in the loyalist's favor.
"Yes, we assisted your comrades in coming this far to retrieve you, it seems," The sapphire spoke in a businesslike tone,"But it also seems that our objective has been completed simultaneously; we were bid to destroy the artifact, it has been done," She swiveled, back turned on the rebels as she began to meander around the room looking for some manner of escape being that the opening had been sealed behind them,"Now all that's left is getting out of this cave,"
Jasper's mouth fell open, she couldn't believe the sapphire was just going to let these three Crystal Gems get away like this. She didn't feel like her objective was completed, but the more rational side of her knew that Padparadscha was making a strategic move; a leader should always have good judgment in the realm of life and death, and it seemed the sapphire had no intention of losing it all to rebels this day. 3JJ set her jaw, and kept an eye on the three rebels, her nape prickling at the sense of danger she got from these gems.
Orange grinned and began to walk around the perimeter of the room, knocking on the wall here and there. "I'll get us out of here." She said, Blue watched with awe, she knew what Orange was up to. Orange stopped and place a hand on the wall where she stood. "Blue..." She said and pointed to a spot on the wall. Blue nodded and ran over, summoning her sword she swung it and left an 'x' on the wall where Orange had pointed. She stepped back, her sword fizzled as she watched.
Orange's gem glowed before her gauntlet appeared on her arm, a slow hiss of air came from the gauntlet as it seemed to recede back towards the tall orange gem's wrist. She brought her fist up and got ready to punch. She growled loudly as she punched forward, hard, her gauntlet shot forward, increasing the power that was applied to the wall. Dust was kicked up near the wall. Once the dust settled, Orange could be sen in a hole that she made, with light spilling in from behind her, compressed air could be seen being expelled from her gauntlet as it receded again.
Blue grinned. "That was awesome!" She yelled, this got a grin from Orange as her gauntlet fizzled out of existence. Opalite just stared in awe at the sheer power this large gem had. She walked towards the wall and examined the hole. "That's almost two feet of pure stone..." She said and looked up at Orange with a sort of newfound respect.
Padparadscha and Jasper backed up when they both realized that the Orange gem was about to go ballistic on one of the nearby walls. With abilities like this, Padparadscha deduced that the artifact the gem had been embedded in must've been a powerful offensive device, one that would certainly inconvenience Homeworld in times of battle. However, now that powerful offensive device had a mind of its own, released into a strong and opinionated gem who had unfortunately been swayed to the side of the criminals terrorizing Homeworld's colony. This was not a worst case scenario, but it certainly wasn't a best. Her report would be an ill-received one.
As the wall was opened up in one smooth motion, Padparadscha rushed forward, closely shadowed by 3JJ, as the two loyalists strode for the makeshift exit. She tapped her bracelet, bringing up her holoscreen, and realizing that Pink Pearl had messaged her nearly a dozen times. She worried about this hot-headed Orange Goldstone, and hoped the gem wouldn't see fit to make a problem for Padparadscha and her team today. The two gems weaved through the undergrowth and over rocks, moving quickly to retreat.
"Well, it has been lovely," Padparadscha called over her shoulder as she and 3JJ continued, hurrying for the shoreline so that they could be air-lifted out of the island,"I don't suppose any of you will be wanting a ride on my ship, so it will be farewell for now," The pink vessel soared overhead and swooped in over the water, preparing itself to take on the loyalists before the rebels could do them any harm, though it would be a moment before the ramp would drop.
"Oh, but that's where you're wrong." Blue said as the three Crystal Gems emerged from the trees. "We don't want to be stranded here, and we don't plan on it, so, if you'd be so kind as to give us a ride to the mainland, we'll find our way from there." She said, knowing very well that the homeworlders could take them back to the moon instead, but taking this risk due to the fact that Orange could very easily punch the ship out of the sky, these three didn't want to be stranded here, just like the homeworlders, but the one problem, Blue and her friends had no way to get back home.
"That's all we ask, and we won't get in your way if we can help it." Blue had showed respect to these two, for once. Orange stepped forward. "We're calling a temporary truce, we will honor our side of the truce so long as you honor yours. Just until we get back." None of the Crystl Gems wanted this to go awry, and so they tried to remain as calm as possible to attempt to make this go smoothly.
Padparadscha came to a halt, and her brows furrowed in both shock and confusion at what the rebels said. 3JJ too stopped, not wanting to leave the sapphire behind just in case. She glared at the three rebels as they tried to get a ride-- she thought she'd seen some crazy things in her time, but never had she seen rebels actually offer to peacefully step aboard a homeworld vessel. Perhaps this was their chance to detain these criminals?
The last time Padparadscha been able to convince a bunch of rebels to get onto her ship, they had been none the wiser as she took them straight to the moonbase for processing through the nascent criminal justice system of the Pink Court. She could do the same here-- there weren't windows in the holding bays, and there wasn't much room for a gaggle of gems in the bridge aside from her existing unit. It would take only moments to get to the moon, but all the same, since the rebels weren't poofed and restrained, they could cause a racket in the hanger once they discovered there fate.
The sapphire scrambled up onto the ship as it hovered above the shore, closely followed by her bodyguard. She pressed her lips together, and made a choice,"A deal I simply cannot make. I won't strike any sort of truce with rebels," Padpara called over the ship's engines. She could reserve her strength, but never call a true draw between herself and any gem who had forsaken the empire,"If you step onto this ship, then you're going to be processed by the Pink Court justice system,"
Again 3JJ was baffled, she wasn't sure why her patron was given so much mercy to these rebels. They all should've been detained long ago, if it were up to the Jasper, but it wasn't. She gave an exasperated sigh as the ship powered up, preparing to take off as the loyal gems receded into it.
Opalite stepped forward and touched Blue's arm, Blue looked down and at Opalite, they kept eye contact for a few seconds before Blue nodded. Opalite walked forward. "We only want to ask for a ride, can't you find some of that kindness you've shown us in the past to take us back to the mainland? We're stuck here without it, and you know what Blue will do if you refuse." Opalite says, if Blue's past was any indication, she meant Blue would get violent in some way. "For once I was actually comfortable around homeworld gems, if that's not a step closer to getting us back on homeworld's side, what is?" Opalite asked as those words sparked an idea in her own head. "Wouldn't you like homeworld to seem like a good idea in our eyes? You can do that by showing that you care what happens to your possible future comrades?" Opalite knew she was right, and she hoped that her words would have some impact on at least Paddy, she knew the other's wouldn't question the sapphire's instruction, so all she had to do was convince the pink gem. "You don't want to make homeworld look like the least desirable would you?"
As she stepped over to the command chair of her ship, Opalite's words run through the open hatch. Padparadscha's brows shot up and she scoffed. Feeling her intelligence insulted, she almost wanted to simply take off, but the note of sincerity in Opalite's voice both threw her off and persuaded her to turn around and step up to the opening of the ship. 3JJ frowned; she knew the sapphire had an innately merciful nature, and she didn't like it one bit-- she wondered for a moment if the sapphire really would allow the gems to get a ride.
"I can't believe what I'm hearing, Opalite," The sapphire's voice was harsh, she continued in her cutting tone as she glared at Opalite,"You are the ones who are traitors to your kind. You turned your back on your Homeworld, on your Diamonds, your comrades-- not I. I'm not going to bend to your manipulation. You've already manipulated me enough. Criminal gems such as yourselves aren't often invited aboard my ship without terms, ex-adviser,"She pressed her lips together, and motioned at her Pink Pearl who manned the control center. There were many dangers to inviting these gems, with their full forms, onto her ship. She couldn't afford to allow gems who were known to be dangerous, treasonous back-stabbers onto her ship only to have them overwhelm her team and take the vehicle for themselves. She also couldn't afford to have it damaged. As adamant as these gems seemed to be in their want of a ride on her vessel, it was highly suspicious to her.
She cleared her throat,"My terms have already been stated, you're lucky to receive such transparency from me. If you want a ride, then you must agree to honorably face the judgment of the Diamonds. You will stay in the holding cells until your trial. Can those terms be met, Opalite?" If not, the sapphire supposed the group of criminals would be having a long swim back to their hide-out.
"We had already told you our conditions for going back, or have you already forgotten?" Opalite stayed calm, though Blue and Orange didn't seem to happy, as they summoned their weapons. "Tch! Of course she's forgotten! She's a homeworld gem, if we're defect for feeling emotion, or being able to think for ourselves, then I'm not going back! But we're not gonna stay on this island!" Blue was getting angry. "Blue, I'm sure we can work something-" Opalite was cut off. "No! She can't be bargained with, it's us or them unless she has a sudden change of heart!" The familiar hiss of air from Orange's gauntlet was enough to say that these gems weren't joking. "We tried making a deal, we would have been peaceful, but Little Miss 'I'm in charge' here, thinks she can just make up terms that only benefit her and get away with it!" Blue stepped forward, closely followed by Orange who waited behind Blue, she waited with her gauntlet at the ready. "Last chance!" Blue growled, staring at the smaller pink gem.
She was absolutely floored by the behavior of these gems; first manipulation, now coercion. The sapphire regretted even giving them a chance at any sort of negotiation-- they should've taken lift off by now. Pink Pearl initiated the shields, and waited for her patron's command. There was the threat of the Orange Goldstone, so the sapphire was forced to continue the argument, at least to cover the whir of engines as the ship began its liftoff procedures.
"You wanted to know if I could explain the phenomenon of love," The sapphire said, her brows floating upward on her face,"I'm sure whatever answer I give will be contrary to your own, as love is something experienced differently by every being who engages with it," She pursed her lips-- that was something she had learned during her investigation of human relationships, along side the veteran soldier who had sparked her interest in such matters in the first place. If that gem were here, the sapphire had no doubt they could triumph over these heinous criminals and bring them to justice. The thought gave her pause, and she sighed heavily.
She continued to address Opalite,"But, what do you expect me to do when a group of dangerous traitors is threatening to hijack my ship for their own ill deeds?" Then, turned her eyes onto Blue Goldstone,"The fact that you think these terms are only favorable to me is ludicrous. What is unfavorable about being given another chance to prove yourself for your Diamond? If you don't wish to be redeemed, then I have no interest in allowing you to sap any more good will from me," More vitriol saturated her tone as she continued, voice gaining volume as the engines became louder,"After you shoot us down, what do you intend to do? The result is the same, except every single one of my distress signals will ping this area. My ship has a high-priority alarm, so good luck facing innumerable quartz elites when you're through with us," She sneered, she almost wanted them to do it; at least that move would spell the end of these persistent rebels,"I'm doing you a favor by not marking this location," Of course, from her perspective these rebels had never appreciated what she'd done for them in the past, she doubted they would now.
Blue grit her teeth and looked down at the ground, something was eating away at her, she was thinking hard. She growled as her head shot up. "I want to go back!" She yelled, even Opalite and Orange looked stunned by this. Tears had begun to form in her eyes. "I want to go back, but I can't! I won't get a second chance..." She looked away. "That is why I remain a rebel, they'll shatter me the moment I step foot off your ship! Well, that's one reason, the other, is for Opalite, even if we were given a second chance, I wouldn't be allowed to see her, I wouldn't be allowed to talk to her." Her voice got quiet. "I wouldn't be allowed to love her..." Of all the gems who could have broken down, it was Blue, tears streamed down her cheeks as she stared at the ground. "I miss it all, training the new quartzes, talking strategy with the other commanders, but, we cant go back, or they'll separate us, and shatter me."
"Blue... Why didn't you say anything before?" Opalite asked. "Because, I care about you!" Blue said. "Because I love you..." She was showing genuine emotion, this wasn't a manipulation tactic, it wasn't a ploy t catch them off guard, it was all real, Blue only enjoyed being a rebel because Opalite was there with her.
The sapphire's brows went up as Blue made her sudden admission, and her eyes passed over the other rebel gems for their reaction to such a statement. They seemed just as shocked as she was to hear it, but there was something else. From the words and cues on Blue Goldstone's face the truth-sensing sapphire knew this was a genuine emotional moment for the gem. She glanced behind her shoulder, toward 3JJ who had a grim shade over her expression, and Pink Pearl who tapped her fingers together nervously. The one Diaspore medic that was on board was impassive as usual, but kept their eyes ahead.
Padparadscha pressed her lips together. There was a desperation in Blue's voice, one she recognized. She knew that it was complicated; after hearing so many stories in the interrogation room, it was hard not to recognize that some gems ended up in bad situations. However, she didn't excuse the choices they made-- her sense of justice wouldn't allow her to simply let gems get away with something as serious as treason. She didn't know the full story, she didn't know what Blue had done, but it sounded like Opalite was the one who had pressured the soldier into making that final decision.
The aristocratic investigator cast her eyes down at these gems,"You can regain your honor by facing judgment," She stated harshly. Even with her ethereal experience with emotions sparked by closeness with another, she would never think of it as more important than one's purpose; to serve the Diamonds to the best of their abilities. The sapphire swiveled on her heels, and stepped back to her command seat. She held her hand up to Pink Pearl, asking her to wait for a moment. That would give the rebels time to decide whether they would take her offer or not.
"The only thing that is stopping us, is the fact that we won't be allowed near each other, we won't be allowed to experience the things we've experienced together, fusion, it's something that I thought I would hate before I actually tried it, it feels like nothing else, I forget the things I've done when I'm fused with Opalite, it makes me glad that I made the decision I did, but, if I go back, all of it will be taken away, including Opalite. And, I don't want to loose her again, because, I know that if I do... I might never see her again." Her sword fizzled, this was where a lot of her anger had come from, from these things she kept bottled up inside her, Orange's gauntlet fizzled as well, Orange stepped forward and placed a hand on Blue's shoulder. "It takes a lot to admit something like that, I'm sure we would understand if you went back." Orange said to Blue. "Not without a guarantee that I would be allowed to be with Opalite." Blue said, she was torn between two things here. The world she was supposed to be devoted to, and the gem she loved.
As she walked toward her chair in the center of the ship, Blue Goldstone's words projected through the open hatch. The sapphire sat down with her lips pulling sharply downward, brows furrowed with disdain. She was an investigator, an interrogator, an architect, but as multifaceted as her talents were, she wasn't a counselor or a diplomat; she couldn't guide Blue into the right direction if the gem wouldn't concede to her own guilt. However, this presented an opportunity to her overarching investigation; why had the rebellion happened, what caused gems to rebel? Was it something naturally defective about them, or something more?
Her casing had lead her to believe there was something more. She recalled a moment that very well could've been a crossroads in her career, but fortunately it hadn't gone that way. Her post would never be abandoned, and she was disappointed with these gems for allowing themselves to let sentiments pull them away from their duty as gems. The sapphire gave a heavy sigh, and decided to make this into an opportunity. She motioned for 3JJ and her field medic, and the two gems walked up to listen to her.
The impassive, short diaspore appeared in the hatchway, followed closely by 3JJ,"Her clarity is willing to make another proposal. Each of you will enter the ship one-by-one, then will be escorted to the holding cells. You will be interviewed while in your cells, until we reach the drop off location,"
