Ame brimmed with excitement as Light began to lead the way. She hadn't been given a chance to see the forge yet, and despite the Crystal Gems allowing much more freedom to their supporters than that of Homeworld, she still felt like a soldier in form and function; seeing a place where weaponry was created piqued her fascination. Light also seemed enthused, which kept her in good spirits as they moved through the temple, then into the mountains. She peered up at the jagged edges that stood silhouetted against the smog filled sky, and her eyes followed the volcanic rain for a moment before her attention fell back down to the pearl.
"Got it," Ame chuckled in response to Light's advice, and she found herself increasingly excited as they neared the flat wall, which stood out on the gnarled ridge like a sore thumb. As the door opened, she took a couple steps forward, but halted as Light brought it to her attention that visitors weren't typically welcome. She frowned, and glanced back from where they came from, then allowed her gaze to trail back over to the forge opening. "Alright... well I guess we'll be here," Ame shrugged, but internally she wished she could run in and start gawking at everything as soon as possible. Still brimming from her initial excitement, Ame stepped up to peer inside of the room, to see what she could in the meantime.
Pearl shook his head and tried to explain "No no no! You can come, just stay behind me, alright? He is a really sweet guy when you get to know him, but he bites all the time. Protect your hair." He then finnaly came inside.
It was dark, really dark. It was not possible to see anything. Except for one thing... a pair of two glowing orange eyes. Pearl clapped his hands which made lava stream throuh the walls and into the room. This caused the entire Forge to glow with a dim orange light. Now it was obvious that the pair of glowing eyes belonged to the golem like machine about the size of a decent quartz, topaz or a construction worker. It looked like a forge personifed, its body resembled a boiler with the orange lights looking almost like fire burning within it. The head of the machine was a small bump seated between two large shoulder pads. There was an actual gem in her waist, it looked like some sort of bismuth.
"Hello Vol! We have got guests, go to sleep mode for now." Machine reponded with a simple hello before stepping out of the way and goining to stand in the corner. Now gems had a better sight of what was in the Forge. Besides the massive anvil in the centre and some desks and containers the room was pretty empty. Or at least it would be if not numerous shields, spears and sword hanging on the sealing. There were also some unfinished projects on the floor and on the anvil. "It might look like a mess, but I am still working on organizing each ob- not now!" Pearl couldn't finish his sentence because of a particular bird that flew straight into him and started to gnaw on his hair while having big innocent eyes. It seemed to enjoy what he was doing. The bird was a cockatiel parrot, mostly white with dark orange cheeks and yellow feathers on top of his head "That is why I tried to warn you, he can be merciless." He looked straight into bird's eyes "Do not consume me Ibi! Gems are watching." The bird responded "Do consume me!" Pearl poked his bird's beak, the creature moved to his shoulder and continued to slowly devour his owner.
"So yeah! Take a look! There should be all types of commonly used weapons by gems. I am not really a designer, but I do have old plans from my..." He was silent for a while as if he didn't know what to say next "From my friend! It shouldn't be a problem to recreate most of stuff you see here. Till we have got recources of course, a quick trip to the moon would really help now."
Her brows went up,"M-my hair?" Her hand went to the huge, unruly plume of spirals shooting out of her head-- it was difficult enough not to lose track of it without someone trying to eat it. With careful steps she follow Light into the room, and her eyes glinted as they snagged onto Vol, who appeared to be some kind of gem she hadn't seen before. Ame glanced down toward the gemstone embedded into the mechanical gem, and her brows furrowed while they stepped off into the corner as ordered. Was this the gem she had to protect her hair from?
There wasn't time to dwell on what she'd just witnessed before she followed Light into another chamber, and it as as if a spark of flame had gone off in Ame's expression; she scanned over all of the creations that lined the walls of the forge. Before she turned to start looking around at everything, she turned a brimming smile over to Light. Her hands went up, "This place is amazing! It must have taken ages to make all this stuff!" Internally she wished she had been there to see it made.
Then, her eyes snapped over to Light as someone new entered the room-- a bird, smaller than the seagulls she was use to swatting away from her food. It appeared that the vicious creature had a taste for gemkind; at first the notion was rather terrifying, but then the bird spoke, and she had to wonder. "Erm-- hi there, Ibi-- A-are...are you a Crystal Gem?" Ame scratched the back of her neck; she never knew that birds could talk too, and this Ibi didn't appear to have a gemstone. Now she felt so rude for never having said hello to them before!
"Yeah, I suppose it is pretty cool!" He said proudly. He might have not been the creator of each individual weapon, but he was the right hand and a friend of the creator... and than he continued her legacy for the sake of rebelion. But... he still missed her.
The bird started at the purple gem. Its big black eyes observing her every movement. "Ibi Crystal Gem" The bird responded before creating a loud noice. It than flew to Amethyst and sit on her head. "Get back here! What did I tell you about sitting on our guests?!" The bird soon came back to Light and sit on his shoulder. "I am sorry, he is a new recruit from Earth."
"So where were we? Ahhh... yes, our toys." The Pearl clapped his hands which caused some sort of mechanism to activate. The chains with different weapons started to slowly rush down to gems. It was a primitive way to get your equipment, but it looked sort of appealing,
On the first chain there was a shield. Altought it was more like a frame of a shield which was able to create a projection of orange light. Light summoned a hologram with his gem. It showed all the details, how it was made, etc... some stuff seemed pretty hard to understand even for him. He was recreating what his friend made, not creating his own weapons. "This one is pretty good. Not heavy, can take some hits and the light projection will regenerate in a matter of 2 hours. Currently I have got about 20 of them, I am working on creatng more."
The next one was some sort of small device, kind of looked like a wing. Pearl once again made another light projection. But this time he also summoned his weapon. A simple, but easy to hold and light stick with the same device at one end. "This one is my personal favourite. It can shoot a small laser beam. It might not deal a lot of damage, but it should stun the opponent for a second. It can easly be attached to most staff like weapons. Annnnndddd it can be used to cut thin metal. I have only 10 for now."
On the next chain there was a sword. Just sword. Light didn't even bother to create a new projection "You won't believe how many of them you can easly make when you are bored. There are about 50 and they vary in size. They are just that... swords, but it shouldn't be a problem to create more. Perfect for gems without a weapon on their own. However, they might have problems with cutting through hard objects. They should be used on light projections only or they will easly break."
There was one more, a big one, it had to be held on few chains "And here is the reduced replica of the main power engine you can find on original colonization ships which landed on Earth. I know, not really a weapons, but maybe it will help. They can power up smaller ships. Damaging it might mean releasing all the energy... which means it will explode." The cockatiel soon repeated "EXPLODE." The Pearl shivered a little bird since the bird was so close to him when it shouted. He soon continued "We have only got two."
"And we have also got Vol... Just one, I wasn't able to recreate her. I suppose it makes her unique. And yeah... that is it! What do you think?" He honestly hoped it didn't look too bad. He often spent several days to figure out his friend's plans... but as a Pearl who wasn't suppose to create anything he struggled a lot.
Amethyst opened her mouth, then froze as Ibi approached her and settled into her hair. The enormous soldier stood uncannily still, unsure of what to do now that the bird had taken residence on top of her head. Slowly, fear built inside of her-- was this creature planning to devour her hair?! Before she took action to protect her precious locks, the pearl almost seemed to summon Ibi back to him. Upon learning that he was a new recruit, she gave an uneasy smile, and shrugged. "No hair off my scalp," She gave a nervous laugh.
When Light turned to go on with the tour, Ame plodded happily along. When the weapons dropped from the ceiling, she flinched, almost ready to fly into her martial stance, but her eyes glinted as she looked over the weapons on offer. Her eyes flicked to see the shield's use and creation in hologram form. "Whoa!" She grinned while Light talked about the shield; she figured she might need one for herself, and grabbed it to try it out. It was very light compared to some shields she had used in the past, though that was to be expected due to the construction and materials used. She set the shield back where she found it, and moved along as Light did.
The laser protection item was certainly neat, but it didn't catch her eye quite the same way that the bladed weapons did. Axes and swords were her personal specialty, though as a nearly full sized Amethyst, she was content to use just about anything in a brawl. Still, she thought about all of the useful applications that a laser like that could have, especially when at war with Homeworld. She almost went to test the balance of the sword, but before she did, Light called her attention to the large device that had fallen from the ceiling.
Her eyes glowed with enthusiasm as she stepped around it, getting a good look at all its angles. Part of her always envied those gems who were good with tools and worked in the engine rooms of the ships. She nodded as Light spoke, then reeled as Ibi emphasized the danger of explosion. Her eyes were wide as she realized that the Crystal Gems were in possession of two objects which could amount to being bombs in the wrong, or perhaps rightly timed, situations.
"What do I think?" She started slowly, then allowed a grin to crack across her face. It was hard to not get excited about the stuff of war-making, even if war itself was a worst case scenario; the purple soldier just couldn't hold back her excitement. "It's amazing! You made all this stuff? I mean, wow!" She gave a hearty smile, "I wish I could make stuff like that!" Her eyes glimmered.
Light giggled "For now." He than raised his upper hair revealing a nearly bald spot on his head. Because of this... messy hairstyle and some barely visible scars here and there it was easy to deduce that it has been a while since this Pearl regenerated. His clothes were not snow white anymore due to the place he was working in and his gem was imperfect. All of this would make him an odd sight on a gem controlled planet. But here on Earth it was more common to see individuals like him.
The gem seemed pleased when he noticed how glad Amethyst was. "You could say I have just got too much free time." He waved his hand "I am glad you like it! But Lady Padparadscha, my friend, designed all of this. I just... recreated them, everyone can do that. All it takes is some effort and positive energy. And too much free time like I mentioned before." He didn't mention it, but it also costed a lot of materials that he was running out of. The supplies that were found in here at the first place and those he found outside would not last forever. The small trip to the Moon would probably help with this little issue... but for now he had to work with what he had.
Ame was smiling and nodding, until the words Lady Padparadscha hit her ears. She froze, instantly thinking of the only orange sapphire she knew; the wrathful, turbulent Padparadscha 10C8A 8QE; the very same whose service Amethyst had defected from. Her sisters, the other Amethysts, were still up at the North Pole, building something diabolical for that aristocratic pawn of the Diamonds. Sapphires of any kind were a rare sort of gem, but Ame shook her head, trying to reason with herself-- there was no way that Light would be in cahoots with a gem like 8QE, right? It had to be a different Padparadscha, one who was good in the Crystal Gem books.
She swallowed, and tried to concentrate on the here-and-now. "P-Padparadscha, huh?" She managed, and gave a weak smile, "I know one of those too," Hoping for confirmation that her old employer wouldn't come hunting for her here, Ame decided to make mention of her concern, but she remained distracted by all of the fascinating things in the forge.
"A-anywho ... well, guess who has a whole bunch of free time?" She pointed at herself, a big goofy grin emerged to eclipse her prior worry. Eyes sparkling in the forgelight, she began to gather giddy tension in her shoulders, "I mean, I work up in Empire City on the weekends, but I've been wondering about this forging stuff. What you do here is really amazing, Light! If you need anything at all, I'm here to help!" Her speech ended with a cheesy thumbs up, but she brimmed with genuine excitement.
"You do?" He asked while putting everything back to original places. "Well you might know a Padparadscha, but you don't know THE Padparadscha. There are no other gems like her. I mean... how many Sapphires do you know who would abandon their status and design all of this!" He said honestly. There was little chance he would meet anyone like her... and artistic soul with sympathy for other gems, no matter what they were made for.
He stopped what he was doing to look at her. It has been a while since he worked with any gem in the forge... IT actually started to get a little bit lonely. A Bird and a magical golem are nice, but it is not the same. He immediately took her hand and shook it without asking "Welcome aboard!"
(Sorry it took so long... we are doing anything else with it? I feel like a talk about a certain Padparadscha detective would work better as its own thread.)
Light confirmed that her fears were irrational after all-- there was no need to worry about the gem she use to guard back on the Moonbase, not here anyway. The tension in her shoulders fell away, and she grinned as Light described the Crystal Gem Padparadscha; she sounded a whole lot less evil, and a lot more awesome!
When the pearl suddenly took up her hand, a jolt shot through her musculature. Ame was a bit hair-trigger; sudden movements or sensory information could catch her warrior instincts off guard. Combined with the excitement of just receiving a new job with the Crystal Gems, Ame was practically buzzing. Shoulders cranked up her neck again-- but soon lowered as a huge, opalescent grin splashed across her face, and she gave him a firm handshake in return, "I can't wait to get to work!" She exclaimed, perhaps getting a bit carried away with her handshake.
