The Kindergarten, an often quiet place. Much happens and has happened here, but it's activity has begun to wane in recent days. In the recent past, a skirmish broke out. Those defending lost, and those attacking fled after the deed was done.
One of the ones defending was Cacholong, who was actually dispatched first. Her gem laid in the middle of the large ravine, sitting alone. Though it has obviously been some time since the skirmish, the Gem still laid there, contemplating the idea of regenerating. She eventually worked up her courage to do so.
It wouldn't have been a long time between regenerations if Cach had known what took her down, or that there was some sort of conflict in the first place, but that is beside the point. Her Gem began to hover and glow brightly. Within seconds, she fell to her feet, quickly summoning her weapon. She looked around frantically, checking to see if she was in any danger. Once realizing that there was no imminent threat, she breathed a sigh of relief and made her weapon dissipate.
She slowly walked over to the wall of the ravine and sat down, laying her back against the wall of stone. She was going to need time to figure out what she should do.
Of all the places that reminded Citrine of why she chose to fight back against Homeworld, none had quite as much impact as the Kindergarten. She hadn't been here when they created the Kindergarten. No, only the most trusted soldiers were allowed to be present during the construction of one. But, she did know that this was not the way this area was supposed to look. It was a symbol of the homeworld's lust for power, or conquest...she didn't know which it was. But she did know that she needed a reminder of her decision to fight back in the name of humanity. She walked through the ravine with clenched fists and grinding teeth. This was likely once a very beautiful place. But the homeworld didn't care when they converted it into this. A horrid factory that drained the life from the planet that they used to manufacture more gems.
Eventually, Citrine couldn't bear to move forward any more. She clenched her fist tightly, a mixture of light and shadow dripping from the minute gaps between her fingers as if it were oil. She cried out as she slammed her fist into the rock wall beside her, causing herself pain while also cracking the rock face. The sheer force of the hit was enough to be felt a good ten feet away. As she pulled her hand away from the ravine's wall, she took a deep breath, exhaling before turning around...and noticing a very attractive woman. For a moment, she thought that it was a human girl. But..then she noticed a sliver of a white and black striped gem poking out from the top of the hem of her dress. This wasn't a human girl..it was a gem. She held her right hand behind her back, shadows wrapped around it just in case this was a gem who aligned herself with the homeworld, or if she was actually a victim of the corruption. She slowly walked over to the other woman, looking down at her with a smile, hiding her wariness easily. "Are you alright? This isn't exactly the safest place to be right now..." She said, waiting for a response, hoping beyond all hope that she wasn't going to have to fight her...
While contemplating what would be her best course of action, Cach heard a voice asking if she was alright, and stating the obvious of how the Kindergarten isn't a safe place. Normally, Cach would be quite perky and happy upon meeting a stranger, but right now she had more important things on her mind.
"I'm doing fine." she said as she looked up, trying her best to sound like she genuinely cared to speak. Upon looking at the Gem in front of her, Cach noticed that she had a hand behind her back, leading her to be a bit skeptical of the figure in front of her. "How about you?" She asked, her voice cracking slightly. She was never really that good at hiding skepticism.
When the other gem didn't outright attack her, rather stating that she was fine, and asking how Citrine herself was, she simply smiled softly and shrugged, the shadows around the hand behind her back fading into nothing as she offered it out to the other gem, a polite offer to help her stand up should she need it. "I suppose that's a fair point. I shouldn't be scolding you for being here when I'm here on my own. Still though..if this thing ever got turned back on again..it'd be the single most dangerous place to be on this entire planet. That kind of power is something that should be respected." She might not have agreed with the concept of the Kindergarten, nor did she agree with the way that homeworld had been going about conquering things. But..the sheer power of science and technology that their race had..it was both intriguing and horrifying. Its very existence was why it was such a powerful tool to remind her why she fought. But, none of that mattered right now. There was a gem here, likely undecided in the conflict between homeworld and the newly formed Crystal Gems. The first thing they needed to do was get out of the middle of the ravine.
"Normally, I'd welcome staying and chit-chatting..but the risk of running into a powerful corrupted gem in any area other than this is very high. But..we're in the place where gems were manufactured. I don't think we should stay here very much longer, do you?" She asked after either helping up the other gem or retracting her hand upon her rising to her feet on her own. She may have seemed a bit nervous about the thought of running into a corrupted gem, but in all reality, she wanted to take any chance she could get to learn about her fellow gems. Especially those as unique as this one. She looked more human than any gem she had ever seen before. Even she herself showed signs of being a gem that were more obvious than her twin gemstones. The blue stripe in her hair sparkled a bit in the right light, as did the blonde in her hair. This one looked completely human. It also didn't hurt that she looked very attractive. Still, they did need to either outright leave, or start to get on the move. It was dangerous to stay in any one place in the Kindergarten for too long.
With a confused look on her face, Cach looked at the her. For some reason, she believed that Cach had deeper meaning behind asking if she was doing okay. She just shook it off, though, and let the Gem across from her go unaware of it.
It was rather surprising to Cacholong that another Gem cared about the possibility of corrupt Gems finding them. Most of the Earth Gems that she knew would love to run into them. "What, you scared?" She said, the fact that it was a joke was obvious in her tone. "I lived here for quite a while, there probably won't be any corrupts to drift to our area, but if it'll make you feel better." She joked once more. Cach took the Gem's hand and rose to her feet.
"I'm Cacholong, by the way. You can call me Cach if you want. What's your name?"
Well, at least this girl had a sense of humor. When the girl-who swiftly introduced herself as Cacholong-asked if she was scared, Citrine simply rolled her eyes, a smirk present on her lips as if to say that she got the joke. Ha Ha, laugh at the careful one. But, if a giant corrupt gem comes and attacks us, don't say I didn't warn you. She teased as she pulled Cacholong to her feet. She did appreciate the sentiment of giving some comforting words though. It was more thoughtful than most other gems, and even most humans were. I'm Citrine, most people just shorten it to Cit though. She said immediately after Cacholong introduced herself. She was mentally bracing for the joke about her name sounding like a fruit, rather than an actual gemstone though. EVERYONE made the joke at some point or another after any time spent on earth. It was because of all the different types of oranges, she knew that. But it didn't make it any less annoying.
Fortunately for Citrine, Cacholong doesn't know about citrus fruit or anything of that nature. "Don't worry, I'll protect you if one of those monsters comes by!" Cach joked once more. "Nice to meet you, Citrine."
As the two continued through the ravine, Cach found that she didn't know this part of the Kindergarten, so she didn't really know what to do. "We never really went over where we're going." Cach stated, rather disappointed in herself for not thinking ahead. "So, where are we going?"
(OOC: Alrighty, we need to get out of the 1-2 paragraph zone o.o Maybe in the next couple of posts we could have something that happens that we could write about? Not saying it has to be a corrupt or something, but it seems like that would be the most likely thing.)
She had been expecting one kind of joke, but when Cacholong made another type of joke, Citrine just laughed sarcastically, trying her best to suppress a grin. As she started to walk, Citrine followed after her in silence. It was awkward to ssy the least. But, when she brought up the question of where to go, Citrine grinned. She knew where they could go. Well...if we can get out of here, and up to the top of the ravine itself, I know of a sort of base of operations for gems. I can lead the way, if we can get out of here together. She said, a hint of pride shining through in her voice, the shadows around her being pushed back by a faint glow.
She knew how to get to the temple from here. It was going to be a long, LONG journey, but if they could get out of the Kindergarten, they could get back to the Temple, potentially with a recruit for the Crystal Gems. Today was turning out pretty well, in her opinion.
"Well why didn't you say so?" Cach said, a bit of pride in her voice. She smiled and manipulated the earth in the wall next to them into a staircase that lead to the top of the ravine. Cach turned to Citrine and began jabbing her with her elbow. "Eh, whatcha think? Pretty good, right?" She walked over to the stairs, hardly waiting for a response from her new friend.
As the two went up the newly formed staircase, Cach began to wonder why she was being so social with this new Gem. For one, she was recently poofed, so she should be awfully suspicious of this stranger. Another thing that should deter her from this Gem is that corrupt Gems reside in the Kindergarten, and not all corrupts are stuck in an animal-like form. Maybe it was because her old friends are probably dead or lost, or that she hasn't had any social interaction for quite a while. Brushing these thoughts aside, she continued up the steps.
When the two got to the top, Cach turned to Citrine and began asking her a couple questions. "So what's this 'Base of Operations' you were talking about? And why did you need to get to the top to know where to go?"
When she saw what Cacholong did to the side of the Ravine, she couldn't help but clap. That was very impressive. Before she could open her mouth to say so however, Cacholong was already climbing the stairs. She followed close behind, secretly admiring the view she had on the way up. She wasn't a pervert, obviously. But, she wasn't above giving credit where it was due. Cacholong looked good. She wasn't above admitting that. However, that was quickly cleared from her mind when they got to the top, and Cacholong asked about the "base of operations" she had mentioned before. She cleared her throat with a smile.
That's easy. Because Homeworld plans to do to the entire world what they did to make the Kindergarten, small groups of gems are banding together and fighting back against them, protecting the people that live here, along with giving ourselves a "Home". In reality though, at this moment, it's just a few gems that congregate at a temple in a town called Beach City. For now, it'd be a good place to start, right? She admitted as she started walking, leading on while making sure that Cacholong realized she would answer any questions. She was hoping that she would ask questions, it made the whole trip more fun. Especially since it was going to be a very long walk.
In all honesty, sometimes she wondered why she even came out this far. But, today it had turned out to be a good idea. She had met someone new, and made a friend. So far, today was turning out rather well, so she was excited to see where the day led. Thus, she was willing to take the walk, mostly because-as far as she could tell-none of the warp pads wanted to work for her. That could have been a bit of user error, but it was too late now.
Surprised, Cach looked to Citrine. "What? When did all this happen? From what I remember, there was only one group of Gems working together. I was one of them." She proudly boasted. "We were called the Heroes of Darkness! The leader said we'd do great things for the world, but we mostly kinda just did random stuff. A friend of mine also helped me to control lava and magma." She said, blushing slightly at the memories.
"We didn't do much other than one mission that I can remember. We fought some sort of corrupt gorilla monster? Long story short, it ended with me cutting off its head and us using its gemstone for something that I can't remember." Cach realized she was rambling, and cursed herself under her breath.
"Sorry, I talk a little too much." She said, rubbing the back of her head in shame. "So, who are these new Gems, and what does Homeworld want with Earth?" She asked, oblivious to the fact that Citrine had already answered one of those questions.
As she listened to Cacholong talk, Citrine couldn't help but be impressed by all of the things she had learned to do. Citrine herself learned both of her abilities relatively quickly, Light came naturally to her, and Darkness...well..her anger at homeworld had made that an abundantly strong power for her to utilize. But, regardless. Cacholong had a lot of catching up to do. However, Citrine would wait for her to finish talking, and ask all of her questions before answering it. Well, for starters..I think Rose Quartz revealed the homeworld's intention to drain all of the life from earth by turning the entire planet into a kindergarten happened a few months ago? She said, not quite sure how long it had been anymore. She had been fighting the homeworld for so long, at first in subtle ways, such as helping out rebels with whatever information she could find. She had been subverting the homeworld for so long that it felt..good to actively be fighting them. However, Cacholong had one other question: Who these new gems were. As for who they are..? I can't really tell you. I've not met any of the Crystal Gems yet, they've always been gone whenever I show up, so I never got an active chance to join up. Im hoping that things won't be the same as they have been when we get there. Especially not when their temple is the only base of operations that the gems that don't want to destroy this place have. She explained as she led the way. They were walking at an alright pace, and in a few days they would be back in beach city. The kindergarten wasn't THAT far away..was it? Oh god. She had no idea how long they were going to be travelling, and she had asked Cacholong to follow her. It wasn't all bad though. She knew the way back, and she knew that it was possible to get back to Beach City on foot. That was good enough for her.
Citrine shook her head with a smile on her face as she noticed how childish Cacholong could be. She had to be a relatively young gem then. Her actions showed that, along with her personality. But, when Cacholong asked her if they were close to their destination, CItrine shook her head. It's at least a three day trip on foot. If we can, I'll try to get some form of human transportation. That will at least make things a bit faster for the both of us to get there. She said with a bit of a smile as she looked up at the setting sun. But..I think we should camp out for the night. It's starting to get late, and I..kind of took up the habit of a normal sleep cycle.. She admitted, a bit embarrassed by how human she actually was.
In retrospect, she was likely the single most human gem in existence, as she slept, ate, and harbored romantic feelings for other gems. Most gems only took up one of those traits, or two of them. So far, she hadnt met another gem that took on all three traits. It was a bit frustrating, because she herself was expecting to meet a great variety of gems when she broke off from the homeworld. But, regardless, she looked around for a place to stop, motioning for Cacholong to follow as she walked off to the side of the road.
Melody: how are you doing? Are you going to make a character in here?

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.

*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
