Personality: Mica is a kind and gentle soul. That being said, his mind reels in constant uncertainty and doubt, making him somewhat timid, unresponsive, and non-commital. He's glad to bring up a great idea, but he himself may fade into the background when it comes time to get to work. Maybe his inability to commit to any big projects is why he spent most of his time wandering from village to village. He likes getting to know people, but has a difficult time sticking with any group of friends over a long period of time. He has a tendency to ignore information he cannot place in the puzzle of fixing the world, and completely neglect or forget personal information about others like their name or age, but he will never forget their face or the things they do for work. If he can help somebody right away, he will, but anything that takes lots of planning and commitment might make him seek an exit.
Likes: Ancient Cultures, Kung-Fu Dramas, Roller Skates, Ascetism, Charity, Pacifism
Dislikes: Greed, Arrogance, Plastic Wrappers, Advertisements
Fears:Impending battle. Being crushed.
Weapon:
Scribe gems are not equipped like weapons with their abilities. The way gems can retrieve a weapon, scribes can summon maleable, crystalline shards of silicate.
Because of his ability to transmogrify silicates, his weapon will either be the Short Glaive, or a Rope Dart. Mica must be focused in order to switch between the two.
He learned the ability to do this through experimentation.
Rope Dart: A dagger on the end of a long, gossamer chain. Depending on the technique, this weapon can perform a jab up to 10' away with optimal preparation and focus. The rope can tangle around objects for climbing or disarming, but needs to be maneuvered precisely. If Mica makes a mistake, he can tangle himself up and needs a moment to dematerialize the chain.
Short Glaive: This weapon is like a spear that is approximately 50" long overall, with a 17" blade
Punch Buckler: A Frisbee-sized, round, shield held by a handle in the center. In some situations, he may transmogrify the buckler together with his other weapons to combine them.
The weapons are brittle, but sharp. Upon impact they can easily shatter into flakes that stick in clothing and armor or scatter on the ground. Mica can rematerialize them almost immediately.
The shards linger for about one minute before disintegrating.
Ability #1 Crystal Wind: Mica has the ability to manipulate nearby broken shards and flakes of his weapons with his movements. His weapon or body must pass within 3' of the flakes in order to pull them through the air as if they were being swept by wind. With certain flourishes he can send blasts of them as projectiles. The range of crystal wind is 10' when used as a projectile.
No wind occurs to perform this ability, even though the flakes appear to be suspended by wind. This ability can only carry approximately 2 lbs of his broken weapon fragments. Crystal Wind can only be active while Mica is performing corresponding movements. (He cannot if he is tied up or too uncoordinated because of exterior influences)
Ability #2 Transmogrify: Mica's weapons, while held, can be transformed into heavier, clear-er forms. While these do not chip or break easily, they become quite dull in comparison. This ability must consume nearby flakes that have previously been broken off in order to work, and requires Mica's maintained focus and physical contact to keep the transformed state. The shape of the transformed weapon is up to Mica's choosing, but depending on its size it needs more broken flakes to be nearby. This shape cannot be sharp or mechanical, but can otherwise be an intricate form like a grappling hook, prybar, or frying pan.
He can easily crumble his weapons in order to use their material, but he must be holding them and have the ability to focus. For example he may use the combined material of his buckler and glaive to form a hammer, or of his buckler and rope dart to form a grappling hook. Intricate transformations like this consume a turn, and require mantained focus to keep. A combined object like this is considered as having summoned two weapons, and it shatters into its basic forms if mica loses focus (sneezing, tickling, tripping, escaping)
Fighting Style:
As Mica's abilities gather shards into the crystal wind, he can either use these shards to transmogrify and harden his weapon, or as projectiles. As a fight progresses, his rope dart may transform into a meteor hammer, or his glaive into a broad axe or large club.
Because of Mica's background of living among monastic and spiritual groups, he has accrued some martial arts capability. He could never out-perform a master and is not considered "skilled" in any particular style, but in a fight this background will reflect on his dexterity and coordination.
Fusions: None as of yet.
History:
Mica's point of origin is obscure, because he was grown on a most desolate rock where only the most common silicates existed. Common, unrefined gems like this fade into the background of the upper ranks of gem society, and that is what gives the the vantage point to be scribes. Mica scribes inspect and document the cosmos before the self-documenting systems of the diamonds takes its place.
Because of his strong belief that life is an auspicious gift, he excitedly concluded that his work must be conducted among a species yet in its cosmic infancy. He came to earth to merely document it, and was enchanted by the compassion of humans, but because of how similar the psyche of earthlings were to him, he began to lose his identity as a Gem. Even now, looking back at what he can clearly remember of the Homeworld, he can tell there are some humans who could teach many things about compassion to even the most elect. He suspects this is because all humans must confront mortality after a mere century of existing.
Even though he is a pacifist, he expresses a strong will to protect the meek and downtrodden, which is why he has become the equivalent of a homeless human beggar among the earth people, so that he could be approachable by those treated with iniquity. Because of what things he prioritizes in his mind, he often forgets particulars about his own past, but firmly attests to the fact that he has always been a scribe of spiritual topics and a protector of the less fortunate.
7'000 years ago: Because of his relatively human appearance, Mica was able to spend much of his time in obscurity among the humans. He would normally travel from town to town, to conceal the fact that he didn't age like the humans. Most of this time, he spent among monastic groups because of the insight they had compared to farm folk. Throughout history, he protected peasants from modern day folk tales. So-called "demiurges" and "demons".
3'000 years ago: Mica becomes a fearless purveyor of religious scripture, and slowly establishes connectivity among temples. His main focus is bringing technologies and ideas to remote communities in the mountains along with his spiritual teachings.
1'000 years to present: Mica has taken on the appearance of a beggar. Though his clothing is clean he has virtually no posessions. He takes care of himself by offering volunteer work to churches to get to know a network of people, and doing them favors. He can work on basic technology and do around-the-house handiwork, and depends on his network of friends and acquaintances to keep afloat. Recently he has been discovering the world of the gems, after they had lost connection.
Because Scribes have no military purpose they are not equipped with weapons
Character Arcs: Perhaps it was because of the human lives he had seen turn to dust, and how much he compared himself to the humans, but mica secretly avoids forming close bonds. He is scared of what it can cost to fight to protect somebody.
Completely absorbed with human theology, Mica has almost entirely lost touch with the world of Gems. He has difficulty interacting with them, because of how much he had forgotten about his heritage. To him, it is most important to get humans to fix their ways. He need to learn to balance these aspects of his life.
Mica hasn't found his purpose. He seeks something more meaningful than giving simple assistance to strangers, but the commitment of devoting himself to a cause terrifies him. He needs to discover where he stands in the struggle against homeworld, because nothing is black and white to him.
