The sun beat down on the town of Beach-City. Strange a name as that, for what was little more than a village. There were villages, towns, cities, and even bigger sprawls of humanity, but Beach-City was no city, perhaps a town. At least that's what Gray Diamond thought, as he slowly walked along the side of the road towards the town in the distance. Looking like little more than a hitchhiker. It was not immediately obvious that he was a Gem. Though that was soon made obvious the closer you might get to him. From the gray-toned skin, white hair, and the body-suit, he did appear to be "One of those gem things"
Of course, why would a gem be walking anywhere exactly? Portals made it efficient enough to travel from location to location, yet here he was, walking, foot after foot, hands shoved into pockets, whistling a random tune he'd heard once before. Diamond was no stranger to humanity, he'd been born on this planet, and called it his home, including the creatures that happened to inhabit it, humans. So, walking was nothing new for Diamond, it was how most animal life got around, and while he was no animal himself, he felt he shared one very good connection with all life here: he was made of the same thing they were, carbon. Earth was full of carbon-based life, and Diamond knew that he himself was made up of the very same atoms. It gave him a sense of comfort to know that this truly was his home, full of things, interests, knowledge.
Knowledge, that was another subject that Diamond held dear to himself. Nothing was safe from the ever-curious eye of Diamond. But all that aside, here a gem was, walking into town, as apposed to flying in, or even teleporting. The town's-people did not much regard him, a fact that Diamond figured would happen, but still surprised him none-the-less, after all gems were still terrible alien and new to most other humans that had never seen one, only heard of the stories good or bad.
He'd come to this town, not for the tourism, or the beach of course, but to sniff out that bit of knowledge he'd gone years without. You see, when you live amongst humans as Diamond had, you soon forget the stories of gems and their squabbles, after all it wasn't as if he'd escaped from the very same beings that humans spoke of so often. But, even spending time moving from city to city, Diamond had soon learned that he was terribly trained as a gem, he did not know the full extent of his powers, and he knew that his escape so many years ago was the reason for it. Diamond was a gem who acted upon his whims, and this quest had much to do with knowledge. So, why not seek the guardians of this planet? And ask and learn what he could-hoping that they might not be aware of his desertion. He'd heard rumors they'd all gone, but those were just rumors.
This town, seemed just like most of the other human town's he'd seen along this continent, shops, restaurants, shops...more shops...it was a tourist town, that much was obvious, perhaps the gems were celebrated as celebrities in this area of the world? Although, there were no posters or anything denoting them.
"Temple...Temple...there was a temple here?" He said aloud, confused as he stepped onto the sand of the beach out from the town. There was no temple as far as he could see. Just a large upending cliff to one side, and the long stretching beach to the other. Had he been wrong? He frowned, touching his chin with a finger. No, this he had been told "Beach-city" This was the same city. Hmmm...I suppose..I'll ask around then." He says with a sigh, shaking his head as he turned back to the town. Hopefully someone would be able to answer his question. Humans, Gems, well-he did expect to find gems around, considering this /was/ where the guardians were supposed to be, it was natural to assume others would congregate around them. He hadn't been paying attention to any gems that might of been around, though he'd have to ask them as well. Still. He was more wary about other gems, than he was humans. Humans were predictable for the most parts, gems on the other hand...
