Silently and solemnly the tall figure sat, gazing out at the sky spire off in the distance. The clouds dancing around one of the many monoliths gem kind had made on this planet. Alex felt no attachment to the temple itself being far more associated with the winds in the area, untainted and free the air here held none of the weight of the battles of the Kindergarten or the population around the crystal temple.Well, free may not be the best word. Like Alex the winds were shackled to this planet with the illusion of freedom.Regardless this area was more isolated them most. The warp behind him being rarely used by gems. Alexandrite himself had only been in this area once before, and that had turned out rather badly for him.
He let out a small sigh before speaking "This is taking too long" He mentioned vaguely "Things are beginning to spin out of control and I don't have the luxury of being a liability anymore. A need a contingency plan for when I cant cut it."
Alexandrite had been pondering over this dilemma for awhile now, that enigmatic concept of fusions had loomed over his head since it was first mentioned. The idea of becoming stronger than individual components seemed rather appealing. He would basically be able to place his unstable powers in the hands of a gem that may be able to wrangle them far better than he currently can. He held his tongue currently though, waiting for a response from Meta and steeling himself to actually pose the question regarding fusion.
Meta wasn't really gloomy enough to loom per say, but she was certainly tall enough, at seven feet and change.
"An eager attitude is good, Alex, but few positive results have ever come from haste."
The big green gem side-eyed her shorter, more slender male counterpart, hands clasped primly across her waist.
"You're talking about Fusion. You might as well just come out and say it. And that's....."
Meta dipped her head ever so slightly, hair shifting.
"...Not something I'm comfortable participating in. We'll need to find you a partner. And I'm all for that! But we have so few permanent residents... The Gem population on this world is composed of transients and outlaws and...."
Meta wrinkled her lips.
"Frankly, I'm not sure those are the kind of Gems anyone, you least of all, should be fusing with."
Alex expression dropped back to sombreness, but he lit up slightly as Meta continued.
We'll need to find you a partner. And I'm all for that! But we have so few permanent residents... The Gem population on this world is composed of transients and outlaws and...."
"Aren't those 'transients and outlaws' part of your resistance or something?" Alex questioned before shutting himself up. He really needed to avoid any discussion about the rebellion as it may draw the situation onto him. Alex wanted to concentrate on himself and returning to who he used to be. Everything else could come later, once he found out who he was he would be able to stand on a side. For now though he remained out of the way, few gems knowing that the 'Noble' leader of the resistance was affiliated with some faulty Alexandrite gem. He quickly pulled the subject back on topic.
"I'm not entirely sure of how the dynamics of fusion work anyway, i've never even seen anyone do it before and i don't really know how exactly the things...Mix together?"
((Best course of action is to wait for Spoodnick now, so let him post before you post again))
Though the meeting with the Alloys had put him on edge, Amon was filled to the brim with anticipation and excitement as he rushed rapidly from warp to warp searching for Alex. Thanks to the kids' unstable nature and his own reckless personality, Amon knew that if they were to fuse the result would be a completely unstoppable, monolithic beast of a thing. Though he still questioned to himself on whether or not the result would be a gem or a metal. Finally warping to the right place, he was able to overhear Alex saying something.
"I'm not entirely sure of how the dynamics of fusion work anyway, I've never even seen anyone do it before and i don't really know how exactly the things...Mix together?"
Seems he was talking about the exact right thing Amon was hoping for. Amon hopped off the warp pad and grinned widely. "You wanna fuse, kiddo?" He asked, keeping his smile. Hoping to all hell that the kid would be easy to persuade as he is, Amon crossed his arms and waited for a response while still keeping his enigmatic smile.
Meta whipped about upon hearing the voice, rose a foot or so off the ground, and hovered over to Amon. On the ground, the two were close to the same height, though Amon dwarfed Meta in breadth. Flight, however, allowed her to talk down to the lump as much as she wanted.
"Him? Fuse with you?"
Now she was outright looming, expression sour. Her piercing green eyes raked up and down Amon's form, narrowing.
"Absolutely not. No. Alex needs a stable, civic-minded Gem to fuse with. Not some knuckle-dragging boulder with a predisposition to violence and delusions of grandeur. I remember you. We've met before. And I've heard about you from others. You cause problems. Fusing is a delicate learning experience. We need someone who regards fusion with the respect it deserves,"
Alex jumped as he heard the void instinctively diving backwards before stumbling slightly and crying out "whydoeseverythingkeepappearingwithnowarningareyougemsghostsoramijustdumb" Alex rapidly exclaimed in a single breath before calming down.
"You wanna fuse, kiddo?
Alex stuttered slightly before clearing his throat and actually trying to speak "uhh,i gue-"-"Him? Fuse with you?"- "Okay" He stopped a soon as Meta cut in. He snorted slightly as Meta mentioned about civil minded gems "your on the wrong planet then" He said near inaudibly. From what he saw most gems on this planet were a little crazy, Meta herself wasn't a paragon of virtue herself and Alex doubted that the rebellion would really attract stable gems. He didn't have the luxury of hand picking the best gem for the job either and Meta had refused so why was she suddenly dictating how this was going to occur. Despite his objections though Alex stayed quiet, honestly he had not forgotten her brutality in the Magnetite incident and a residual amount of fear still lingered. The whole hovering thing didn't help either.
"Who are YOU, to tell ME, what I can and cannot do!?" Amon shouted, looking up through his glasses at Meta. Amon's smile dissapeared, as he shoved his way past Meta. "Hey, kid. Are you really gonna let thunder-thighs here tell ya what to do? You were given a voice and yet, I don't see you using it that much. Take a stand kiddo. Take a chance." Amon pet Alex on the shoulder before turning to face Meta again, aware of the backlash he'd get from trying to undermine her. Before she could say anything, he pointed at her to stop her from saying anything.
"You honestly think this rock has any-one more suitable for the kid then me? You ever heard of the term 'opposites attract'? A little something I picked up from the humans. Fusion isn't about finding gems similar to you and combining. That ruins the whole point. Fusion is about finding gems that are different than you and celebrating those differences by combining them together in a brilliant glory." He lectured, giving his own take about what fusion is really about. Though most of it was his own twisted fantasy.
Meta recoiled at Amon's outburst, hovering slightly higher. As he continued, her face twisted into a scowl, and her lips rose slightly, exposing sharp white teeth. In that moment, her temper boiled to the forefront, overcoming her good judgement. She was very genuinely tempted to nuke Amon on the spot. Burn his body away and burn his gem to foul smoke and char. Leave a molten crater as deep as he was tall. If he turned out to be tough, all the better. She could wear him down. She had plenty of energy built up. But then her eyes flickered to Alex as Amon moved closer to him, and her face smoothed out, anger receding.
They were just words. Just words. Words that she half deserved after how rude she'd been to him right off the bat. And if she killed the fool, not only would she be in the wrong..... She'd alienate Alex completely.
When Amon touched him, her temper rose again, and though her expression stayed calm, the air around her shimmered with heat. But he had a point. The two were opposites. Amon's aggression and Alex's timidity might actually blend well with oneanother to form a pleasant medium.
"You are correct on at least one matter. It is ultimately Alex's decision."
Meta spoke with deceptive clarity through ground teeth, eyes alight with barely-contained rage that contrasted with her smooth face.
Alex let out a large sigh, its seems that Meta and Amon would always clash with each other no matter what he tried. Granted though the two of them didn't have excessive amounts of interaction so it made sense that they didn't entirely see eye to eye. Amon's...'gaudy' personality didn't make him the easiest to get along with either, regardless though he seemed Amon had a point. Alex didn't know much but at least in theory clashing personalties would dilute each other better than two personalties who were similar.Of course Alex was just running off assumptions at this point, he had no idea how often the two others gems had fused so he wasn't entirely sure on their experience regarding the matter.
"You are correct on at least one matter. It is ultimately Alex's decision."
He glanced at the two gems before closing his eyes and muttering yet again about time constraints "Fine" He said opening his eyes and looking at Amon "Lets see how much we actually 'attract', Diamond" Alex spoke as he stepped off to the side where there was some more space. He looked at Meta "So where does this start?"
Amon ignored Meta's response and stared at Alex through his glasses, his smile slowly growing waiting for the kids' response. "Fine" Amon gave a quick laugh at Alex's willingness and finally uncrossed his arms. "Lets see how much we actually 'attract', Diamond" Amon started slowly walking towards Alex, seeing him take a step away from meta and looking confused. "So where does this start?" Alex said sheepishly, Amon picking up the pace. Soon as he was close enough to Alex, he stopped and put his hand on the kids shoulder. "Did thunder thighs over there really not teach you anything about fusing? You gotta dance, kid. Reach deep inside you and show your moves!" Amon took a step back and started to demonstrate his style of dancing, starting to the capoeira ginga movement. "Something like that, but uhh, create your own. That's mine."
Meta was tempted to calmly inform Amon that if he mislabeled her one more time, they'd have to filter his remains out of the air, but that would have involved acknowledging that the insult got to her. Ridiculous. The human concept of ridiculing an individual based off of minor variations in bodily proportion only revealed that humans were a largely moronic species. It wasn't surprising that someone as dumb as Amon would have picked the native jargon up.
Meta remained silent, and observed the two. When Amon got to dancing, and the bit about not copying his style, Meta couldn't restrain herself from covering her mouth with one half and shaking with muffled laughter. Oh. The idea of someone copying that.
Alexandrite was still a little lost. It was a rather strong jump to assume that fusing had to be done with dancing. Had he ever danced before? Maybe, he wracked his mind but he couldn't remember anything. At anyrate Amon seemed to get into it right away, Meta remaining quiet seemed to indicate that his advice was at least somewhat correct.
"Why dancing" He muttered "Who even though that woul-whatever"
He took a deep breath and tried to begin. His footwork was light and air, at first glance it seemed accustom to standard ballroom movements, to begin with he had done a small spin before moving into his steps. It could be best described as some form of cha cha with the beginner movements of stepping around in a box formation, Right, then back, then left, then forward.
Alexandrite felt somewhat self conscious dancing in front of other, he was surprised he even remembered how to dance at all and how natural the movements seemed to be, even so there was a lingering air of awkwardness to the whole thing.
"No no no, that's no good kid. The moves themselves are fine but you gotta stop worrying about looking like an idiot. You're movements are too stiff and lifeless. Seriously kid, it's just me and Thunder Thighs here there's no reason to be so nervous." Amon lectured, crossing his arms and frowning. He had never taught any-one before, let alone some-one as completely self-conscious, nervous and erratic as Alex. His usual method of teaching would be to declare himself superior then challenge his students to a fight. That wouldn't work with Alex, so he knew he had to change up his personality a bit. Just so he didn't scare the kid off. Pretty much everything hinged on whether or not Amon could successfully fuse with Alex, including his own life. "Do it again, kid."
Alexandrite let out a irritated groan as he stopped to hear the two gems remarks about his own insecurity regarding dancing "You two just love to one up each other don't you" He muttered near inaudibly. This was still somewhat new to Alex. Dancing just seemed like such a absurd way to fuse together. He could not recalled how it was done on homeworld but he had somewhat of a suspicion that this wasn't the 'traditional' way per say.
The space Meta was giving didn't really help that much with his own reservations about this but he wanted to fuse. So he supposed he would have to adapt to these new conditions and try and figure out what the trick was if any. On Amons cue he tried again. His foot work was somewhat lighter as he started up again moving this time with a stronger stride that moved him in the direction of Amon as he added a small spin and extended one arm out towards Amon. It was ever so faint but it almost seemed like his gem was glowing a tiny bit.
