"Yes and no. He's in one of my larger caves." She hadn't heard the mumbling. "Its got a couple extra rooms, but I would prefer it if you didn't try and collapse it on her. You could take down an entire wing of my cave and destroy what is above us. Which could be a human home for all we know."
She had toyed with the idea of just dropping the cave ceiling on all of the gems she had collected, but always decided against it incase of a massive cave in. She didn't want to get stuck again, nor did she want to run the risk of destroying Beach city or any city that could be above them.
Finally, she skipped to a stop and shined her light around. The second she shined her light on a rather large boulder, all the growling, shaking, moving, stopped. It was still in the cave again. It still spooked her how the quartz always seemed to know when she got here.
"Behind the boulder." She pulled a weapon from the bracelet that was wrapped around her arm, a simple bow and arrow. She couldn't hear a damn thing from behind the boulder, but she had a feeling it was getting ready.
Spider had brought up a good idea... being where they are its not like Variscite could go full force on this thing... his ability would clearly bust in some of the cave. "Hmm... y-yeah im gonna have to hit this thing hard..." he adjusted the ball and chain over his shoulder quickly.
What was the idea behind haveing a gem trapped down here? It kinda made sense to try and lock it up but then... why keep living here? Plus... she said how deadly she was to gem. Why had she not already dealt with this? The parinoid part of Variscite was kicking in, "Maybe its a trap... but why act so nice to him... best just watch how this pans outs..." he thought while kinda zoning out as she spoke before snapping back to it as the rumbling and what not... had stopped? "Thats... a b-bit creepy..." fighting in the dark was a bit out of his combat prowess, didn't mean it wasn't worth the try.
He nodded as she pointed out the creature was indeed behind the large boulder, "Hmmm... ok lets just g-get this over with..." his mumbling contued as he looked back at Spider to see if she was ready before bracing his foot up to the boulder, "Might wanna t-take cover." a bit louder this time, he had plan to just shove the boulder out of the way to let the beast run out past him... giving him time to do some damage from behind.
Once it was clear that she was ready, tencing up his leg before his leg extented rapidly and with more force then he had planned, shooting the rock down into another narrow hallway that is now blocked off. With weapon in hand he awaited the creature to come barrowling out.
At first, there was nothing. Dust was kicked up when Varis kicked back the rock and it prevented Spiders light from shining into the cave. All they could see was the black nothing and the swirling dust.
It was helpful having four arms... She could shine the light and hold her weapon steady.
A hot second of tense nothingness before...
A giant pink and red mass charged, a thick sharp horn attached to a cat nose and muzzle too small for its own face was shoved into the new opening and in slow motion you could see the entire wall crack and then explode as she forced her way into their hallway. The entire cave was shaking as rocks fell from the ceiling and exploded towards them.
Spider lept out of the way of the rocks, doing her best to see the light on the rhino as it moved its head sparatically, trying to gore Varis with its giant horn with a upwards motion.
Variscite had to try and fan away some of the dust floating about, he had not taken the time to think about dust and the fact they were in this grimy looking cave of... darkness.... and Spider. Seeing as there was no sound or great roar, Varis planted his feet a bit better as he pulled the chain and ball from around his neck down into his two hands.
Glancing over towards Spider and half thinking she would have her weapon drawn and aimed at him.... not the case! She was providing some much needed light and even some arrows if needed. Looking back at the cave that should be holding some kind of creature.... wait is tha- "Ugh!" Variscite had been picked up by the raging beast, a loud rip was clearly heard... maybe not clearly heard over the rhino thing. Being pulled up over the creatures head his human hoody ripped in half over the edged nose.
Flipping over and landing on the back of the creature, the young gem thought quickly as he moved to wrap his crystal ball and chain around the neck, as he used the ball for some momentem to hurl the chain around the creatures neck, the ball flips around and locked in place around its neck, gripping it with both hands he pulled roughly trying to pull the creature back into the cave... or at least AWAY from Spider, "Where is its gem?!" Vari was unable to get too good a view from the back of the beast and the black didn't help..... now he was kinda stuck on the back of the beast, seeming to only really anger it more and more.
The rhino did NOT like being ridden like a show bull. She let out a strange snarl and thoarty roar and started tossing herself into the sides of the cave, trying to scarp him off. Making more rocks fall from the ceiling and the very foundation shake.
Spider skittered up a wall, using one hand and her feet to keep herself rooted to the wall, while the other hand worked to keep the light up and was firing black and red arrows rapidly at the rhino and at any falling rocks that got too close to Varis's head. Hitting the rocks made them explode into more dust and much smaller rocks that would just annoy Varis instead of full out hitting him.
"I don't know!"
Spider really didn't know. her hands and eyes were busy trying to keep rocks from crushing him.
The rhino stomped her heavy feet and tossed her head around, also trying to remove the chain from around her neck and stop the giant wrecking ball from digging into her flesh.
"I don't see it!" Just her light wasn't enough to illuminate the entire creature.
Crap.... this wasn't good.... normally he had a clear sight of his target gem, he was just about fighting in the dark, pitch black dark if it wasn't for Spider giving him some much needed light. Rocks and dust collecting around his head, he knew that Spider was doing something to help him with that too, he could hear the arrows shattering the rocks about his head.
"I don't see it!" ok... too much damage was being done to the cave around them, he didn't want to destory her home, or cause some kind of tremer that could hurt or kill the humans above ground. He pulled some of the chain to adjust his crystal ball to be before the creatures mouth and as soo as it tried to roar his plan was put into action. Drapping himself down before the beasts face, "Shut! UP!" he called out as he kicked the ball into its mouth and causing it to cough and struggle to move it from its neck.
Dropping to the ground before the reature, he was stomped on twice before there was this "THUM!" sound as his crystal ball "poped" inside the creatures mouth and filling it with shards of his crystal ball. This wasn't enough to poof the beast but it had dropped onto the ground close to Varis to seeminly try to collect itself. Variscite himself laied on his back gripping his chest where he had been stompped. It was lucky he wasn't really a human.... that force would have crushed a human rib cage without issue, to a Gem.... just hurt pretty bad, also a good thing gems don't need to breath.
The beast was stilled for now, which Spider was shocked about her. Her hands stilled as the shaking finally settled and no more rocks showered down from the ceiling. Her red eyes peered up at the ceiling, looking quite skeptical. She had a feeling there was more coming, but at least the creature wasn't freaking out now.
Mainly because it was eating a wrecking ball.
Spider wondered what it tasted like.
She dropped down from the wall and quickly rushed over to the monster, searching it and keeping an arrow aimed at its face. As if it cared. She still didn't see the gem... Where on earth could it possibly be?
"You alright?" She asked, as if it was an after thought, walking around the creature. Her eyes still searching, but she had to care a little bit about the gem saving her right? She felt like she was forgetting something... Something important.
Spider remembered what it was, the second she stepped on it. Vines. She had forgotten that the rhino had corrupted vines coming out of its slightly gored out stomach and hadn't remembered till she stepped on it and the vine wrapped around her ankle.
She only had time to gasp before it lifted her and violently chucked her at the wall, her light and no longer illuminating what it could. More dust and rocks were kicked up when Spider connected with the wall, and there was a rumbling, a new rumbling, as the rocks shifted and started to fall.
In the mean time, the rhino wasn't about to let Varis catch his breath. Her blood red eyes flashed as vines whipped out towards the lone gem, trying to strike him across the face with one vine while more vines darted towards his legs and waist.
Varis might be able to catch a glimpse of something rather shiney on one of the vines as it moves towards him...
His chest was throbbing, rolling onto his side, facing the creature on the ground when he heard Spider, "Oh yeah.... just fine." he grunted out. He could sware he saw something almost shining from a vine on the ground but dismissed it as he started to sit up. Looking around for a moment he could still see all the shards from his crystal ball shining from various locations in the cave.
That's when he heard a random gasp, jerking his head to spot Spider dangling from a vine. Before he was able to rise to his feet, one hand still clutching his chest he was slapped across the face by a vine. Turning his attention back to the issue before him.
One vine grabbed hold of his leg and had slowly started to pull him closer, "Ok... I'm done with this!" the gem shards from his crystal ball began to vibrate around the cave before dislodging themselves and a few launching towards the vine reaching for his arm, two shards pinning the vine to the ground. Catching that glimmer once again he motions his hand towards the gem causing the rest of the gem shards floating about to dash towards that vine holding that shine.
Sure enough, there was an almost sickening sound as his shards jabbed into that gem. The beast roaring out once more before, "Poof!" the beast vanished in a puff of smoke. Its red/black gem core lain upon the ground with two gem shards jutting out from the lone core on the ground. Varis sat up from the ground looking for Spider, "You o-okay?" he called out not very sure where she was at, still rather dark without her light.
Perhaps this was what they meant by that? Spider could see little flecks of roving white specks in her sight as she stared at nothing. She groaned and rubbed her temples before standing up and shining her light. She waved her hand, trying to get some of the dust to vanish as he walked over to where Varis was.
"Yes, I am fine." It wasn't meant to come out as a growl, but it didn't. She hated being tossed around like a rag doll. She patted down her clothes as she scanned the ground and spotted the gem.
A sad look seemed to overcome her, and her shoulders drooped.
"Oh... You did it..." She took in a deep breath and walked over to the gem and picked it up, she quietly started to dislodge Varis's shards from the rose quartz. "I shouldn't be sad, I asked for your help but... Isn't it sad?" She looked up briefly to illuminate Varis's face before looking back down at the gem. Real sadness on the gems face. "I wonder how it happened... How we become corrupt..."
Variscite was still seated on the ground, wanting to take a few more un-needed breaths. His chest was still sore, one hand up over his shoulder and gripping the back of his neck over his gem.
He heard her voice and turned his head to locate her, the growl almost caught him off guard but not like there wasn't a reason for it after all. This was NOT how he had planned for this day to go...
He sluggishly pulled himself up to his feet and turning to face Spider once more.... she had this sad look about her face, was she hurt? They had won! Then she spoke... what just happen? He started to walk closer to her as she was inspecting the gem core. When she shed some light on him he didn't know how to feel, "Hm.... l-let me try something..." he spoke softly, his face just seemed tired. Looking down for a moment before his gem began to emit a dim light that grew brighter, bathing the cave walls in dancing shades of neon green lights.
An energy began to flow from his gem, visibly floating around the cave almost like some sort of gem-made Aurora Lights show, unless denied, Spider could feel an energy like a calm wave attempting to wash over her mind and give ease. Not quiet looking at Spider as he was glancing around the cave, "Its not the end, W-we bubble these cores and k-keep them in the Temple.... one day we can save them." He stops looking around as well as his gem growing dimmer once more, bits of energy casting of its own shades of light left floating about.
"I uh.... d-don't really know how it happens.. I'm sure SOMEONE has to know, r-right?" he tried to smile a bit.... not really thinking it would do anything.... been a long day.
Spider was a bit hesitation to allow this... Weird light to touch her, but she let it happen. If he was going to shatter her then it would have happened already, right? She took in a deep breath and could feel herself becoming a bit more at ease... A lot more relaxed. She rubbed her temple with one hand before offering the corrupted gem to Varis.
"You can bubble it then, I think it would do more good in your hands then mine. I just poison things." Mildly true, but at the same time not.
She sighed and looked around... What was the point of taking him down here again? Oh yeah. To make him feel better. She cast a sideways glance at him, he looked like he was in pain. Different pain. But good pain? She had no idea. She nudged him gently.
"Come on, the exit is a lot closer now. Thanks for helping me out."
Taking the gem core into his hand after Spider offered it up to him, with the core in the palm of his hand it bubbled. Enveloped it into a green shaded bubble, it floated up above his hand before it vanished in a soft little flash.
"Eh.... if you poisoned things th-that creature wouldn't have been an I-issue, yea? Or.... I wouldn't be t-talking." He still held a slight grin... he had misjudged this gem. Seems even as powerful as she looked, she was battling with her own deamons. The nudge caught him a bit off guard but he nodded and followed suit next to Spider. "No problem..." he mumbled while feeling bad about how he acted early.
"So, do you uh.... want t-to go get some food? I feel.... st-stupid for how I acted before. Things have been kinda... uh, hard lately..." He wasn't sure how she was respond, he wanted to try and make HER feel better now.. like how she had just did for him. Maybe without having to fight another corrupt gem, well.... if it makes her feel better.....
Was he asking her out? Like on a date? She cast an somewhat urgent look at him, scanning him up and down and trying to read him.
Oh. No. He was... Pitying HER now. Damnitt. It was becoming an endless cycle of each other wanting to not feel bad for the other. She sucked in a breath through her teeth. She... She did like food, and honestly she could use some more company with a gem she wasn't thinking was going to die, attack her, or be a general pain in the ass.
Or spout something about the Diamonds. She was SO sick of hearing about the great and powerful Diamonds.
"Yeah. Sure." She smiled at him, and turned her head to face forward. Walking in the same direction. It wasn't long before they were standing in front of a singular large boulder, she braced herself against it and the rock started to move. The rush of clean air and the sounds of the ocean could be heard. They weren't too far from the beach it seemed however it couldn't be seen.
The opening lead right into a small forest-y clearing. Thick with foliage and it appeared to have no trails to get here easily. Which was how Spider intended it.
"Whew. Just... Keep in mind this feeling, Varis." She stepped out finally, "The feeling of... Finding the light and fresh air after so much hardship and all that. Its renewing."
Varis quickly realized what he had said and what it sounded like... she even glanced him up and down, did she think he wanted to take her on a date? "Yeah. Sure." she even agreed! "Oh! Um... n-not like a date or anything... Not like you would w-wanna date me anyways.... I have uh.... b-bad track record.... heh k-kinda like a Black Widow I guess.... oh wait not like I kill them! Just..." he was fumbling all over his words.
He couldn't help but think of the other gems he got close to... they all just vanish... every one. He didn't want to see yet another gem that was nice to him just up and vanish. He tried not to speak too much more, as the two walked though the cave path.
They came to a large boulder, clearly it was blocking an entrance to her cave. As she moved to start pushing it, Varis helped by giving the rock a good push with a single kick. Seemed Spider did most of the work, indeed the strong gem in her own right.... having four arms must help too. When she spoke Varis listened, "I will... lets hope I d-don't get lost in your caves again.... or at least n-not when your not around... ill never get out."
He smiled as he took a step out from the cave, turning back to offer Spider a hand, "So.... what food d-do you like? I know all t-the good places in town." Varis visable looked happier. The idea of food was something that always made him happy.... hopefully he can keep making Spider smile. She had a nice smile that uh... well the fangs were interesting but he couldn't denie she had a nice smile and figured she could do with a few more reasons to do so.
This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. *Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
