Ruby's eyes narrowed immediately at a couple of phrases, specifically 'it is true that Crystal Gems did some bad things' and 'sadly fighting is the only way out of this.' She frowned, and Lapis could feel her heat up a little bit more, despite her calming gesture. "...so it's just what I thought! What Homeworld said was true! The Crystal Gems don't see anyway out of things besides fighting - no wonder you do what you do! You don't have to be brain dead for your tactics to be crazy!" Ruby shouted, staring at Light. "How are you supposed to save Earth when you're fighting an enemy you can't beat? I don't care what your cause is - because... actions speak louder than words." She murmured, stepping away from Light. "...I don't know about this, Lapis." She murmured under her breath.
Lapis winced as Ruby began to heat up, but she kept her hand on her shoulder. Her grip tightened a little when Ruby began to shout. Overall, she looked a little startled at Light's apparent admission of guilt for the Crystal Gems. She looked like she wanted to add something on to what Ruby had said, but couldn't seem to find the words. Ruby was better at being angry than her. When Ruby finished and murmured to Lapis, she slowly nodded with disappointed concession. She looked up at Light. "Um... so, at the moment I think we're going to reconsider the rebels." She began quietly. "It's... nothing against you personally but Ruby and I want to find another way to fix the problems between Homeworld and Earth. And... um... well, even if both the rebels and Homeworld have done bad things, then that doesn't make you right. It just makes... both of you wrong. At least that's how we see it. So... thanks for meeting with us."
Light freaked out when Ruby started yelling. She is a really loyal Ruby, isn't she. Pearl made a few steps back "We ummm..." He tried to calm down "We are ready to die for this planet. We are ready to do everyrhing to save innocent lifeforms here and stop the not endind cycle were gems just go to planets and destroy them. We are also fighting dor our freedom.Talking with diamonds... it would also cause dead. They didn't want to talk with us, the don't want to talk with us and they won't want to talk with us. You think they would listen to an out of line Pearl? I am done being their power source!" At the end he got nervous. After realizng what he said he freaked out again. He didn't want to upset anyone "I am sorry, I didn't want to yell..."
"If I am correct... there is no such a thing as right side on the war. I a afraid I am useless to you... I will better go like you said." Light felt a little bit sad. He grabed his painting with 2 hands and started to walk away from them.
Ruby was outright confused. She was initially angry when Light said, "We are ready to die for this planet," but then near the end, the sudden shift to sadness and the words "there is no such a thing as right side on the war" seemed to confuse her. She wouldn't stop Light from leaving, but also wouldn't prod them any more than she already had. She slowly lowered her arms and dissipated her weapons, but kept her eyes on Light for the entire time that she was able to see them. She stood her ground nearby Lapis and thought hard about the interaction that she had just had, her eyes glancing at the ground to facilitate thought every once and a while. She said nothing.
"Oh, you don't have to go we were the ones that were visiting!" She called fruitlessly while Light was leaving. She sighed and looked down at Ruby again. "I think Light will be okay. If nothing else, it was just confirmed to us again that the Diamonds might not listen to lower gems like Pearls... and Lapis Lazulis... and Rubies. But there has to be another way to do this other than fighting. Because fighting is pointless too, like you said. I just-" She let out a weak grunt of frustration. "I don't know, Ruby. I don't like having to take a side on this. The Crystal Gems might not be someone we'd want to work with, but if Pink Diamond is on the moon and knows that this is all going on, then she's probably already made a decision about what she wants done with the Earth. I don't know... what do you think?"
Ruby sighs once Light had finally left and nodded. "I agree. I don't like either of what's going on here... I think we need to have a discussion - not with Para or Light or - or anyone else but us." She murmured, looking up into the air, where the holograms had flown away previously. They would eventually return with no information on her captain, and deep down Ruby felt she knew that would happen, even if they hadn't returned yet. "Maybe just back to the apartment?" Ruby recommended, stepping over so she was still standing next to Lapis, facing her, with her eyes pointed where Light had disappeared off to. "I think we have just enough information to make... some sort of decision."
She nodded slowly. "Let's go back then..." She said, and began to walk off with Ruby. She kept silent all the way back to the apartment.
She took the elevator up with Ruby, as she didn't feel like going on on her own to jump up to the balcony. She stepped into the apartment with her and locked the door. Thankfully, she had finally learned that the door could actually be locked. She let out a sign and walked over to the center of the room, then she lay down and stared up at the ceiling. She patted the spot next to her so Ruby could do the same. This kind of deliberation required some serious ceiling-staring. She let out a breath. "Okay... what are your thoughts?"
Ruby would follow Lapis quietly back to the apartment and nod to her, laying down on the ground and staring up at the ceiling. "Here's what I figure... From what I've heard from my superiors on Homeworld, the Crystal Gems have done some pretty bad things. What that Pearl told us solidifies that - they came to Earth, and now they feel so strongly about this planet that they're willing to die for it. They've done horrible things! They told us they did horrible things! And they believe fighting is the only way out of this situation - which I knew - I knew it!" She says, making a fist and slamming the carpet with it. "What kind of rebels complain about misinformation after destroying one of the only ways to even make it to Earth? Of course we don't know anything except what Homeworld tells us - it's not like there's any other way we'd know!"
"It's okay Ruby." Lapis said gently. "We can work through this—I think you'll feel less mad when we figure out what to do. Now, they never said exactly what they did. But Light did admit to them doing bad things. Because of that, obviously we shouldn't join the Crystal Gems. But that still doesn't change the fact that if nothing is done, the Earth will probably be completely colonized and everything will be gone." She props herself up on her side to face Ruby, frowning. "This is going to sound crazy, but instead of following the Crystal Gems or Homeworld... what if we followed...um... ourselves? It would be easier to make Homeworld-choices and Crystal Gem-choices, but we could choose not to listen to the ones we disagree with." Her eyes fall. "Because... u-um... don't get too angry with me, but if my Diamond told me to forget about Earth and leave now... I don't think I would."
Ruby let a deep sigh at Lapis' final statement, closing her eyes tight. She didn't say anything for a few seconds. "No... I don't blame you." She said, opening her eyes and looking up at the ceiling. "If what everyone says is true, your assumptions are probably right - and I don't want the Earth to be destroyed either. And if we take our orders from the Diamonds, that's definitely going to happen, and if we take our orders from the Crystal Gems, we're going to end up hurting someone, or worse. And I don't want to do that unless I absolutely have to." Ruby stated firmly. "So if the easiest way to do that is to not pick a side, then sure, let's not pick a side. Does that mean we can't work with anyone from either side - or?"
"Well it's not as if we're refusing to pick a side!" She asserted, still looking down at her with big eyes. "Just not either of their sides. Instead we could be picking our side! And on our side, we can do whatever we want. If we want to go against what someone else is doing, we could do that. If we want to help someone else out with what they're doing, then we could do that too!" She began to smile, apparently getting a little excited at her own thoughts. "Or if we wanted to spend the day looking for your captain instead of trying to save the Earth, we could do that! Or if we wanted to spend a whole day inside staring at the ceiling, we could do that without having to feel like we're letting someone down!"
Ruby nodded a couple times at all these assertions. "So it's just... us. The Ruby and Lapis... group." Ruby said, as if that would just have to do for now. "And the main things that we're interested in doing is - helping save the Earth, and finding my captain, and also sometimes just... relaxing." Ruby tried to basically parse out what Lapis had said. "And we can help whoever we want, or not help whoever we want, because the whole group is just... us." Ruby confirms, turning her head to look over at Lapis. "And... that won't get us in trouble with any group? You don't think that Homeworld will come after us if we do something that they don't like? Or that the Crystal Gems will hunt for us if we do something they don't like?"
"Well... I think the Crystal Gems would leave us alone. Despite what they said, the two we've met so far haven't been all that bad. Even when I was alone with Light the first time, they didn't try to attack me. And we've been living in Beach City for so long without seeing the Crystal Gems cause any trouble, so I think as long as we aren't... attacking them...then they'll leave us alone. They might even try to help us sometimes, like when Light tried to help look for your captain. But Homeworld will probably be different. I have a feeling we'll become enemies of Homeworld as soon as we start disobeying them, even if we do help them occasionally. Unless the Diamonds can be convinced otherwise, I think the Earth won't be safe until Homeworld decides to leave it alone."
Ruby's breath catches in her throat as soon as Lapis says 'I have a feeling we'll become enemies of Homeworld as soon as we start disobeying them.' "So the rebels might be kind to us. They seemed to help us without... batting an eye before." Ruby murmured, still thinking about what Lapis had said. "...but if we do something Homeworld doesn't like - there's a big possibility they might hate us forever. And Homeworld - at least, right now - includes my captain. So if we're at odds with them, we're at odds with her too." Ruby said, rubbing her face with both hands and staring back up at the ceiling. "So we have to be careful who we make mad at us."
"So we'll just look for her first before we start getting involved in more Earth business." She says, still propped up on one arm and looking at Ruby despite it being her own idea to stare at the ceiling. "Because we can decide when to do things if we're making decisions for ourselves." She leans over to look at Ruby. Her hair likely fell forward into Ruby's face, causing Lapis to brush it behind her head quickly with a "Sorry." before continuing. "Um, but anyway, and if she's anything like you, then maybe she might end up agreeing with us as well, so we could have her on our side too. From the way you talk about her, you think really highly of her so maybe it's possible?" She asked.

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
