Faction Information:
The birth of the Inquisition happened around the time that the (Current?) Diamonds rose to power. White Diamond herself realized that to keep control over the gems they ruled over, they would need a select combo of checks and balances. That's where some of the First Inquisitors came into being.
The first name of the Inquisitor was simply, "The White Inquisition" and they were more like high class officers placed into units of battle type gems and colony groups before taking the name of "Ordo Adamant". Keeping order wherever they are, it wasn't until a later date that the Diamonds all realized that to keep order they had to have more of a reach across their empire. That's when Inquisitors started going off on their own, some choosing to stay with some groups while others would travel around the stars hunting down traitors, and rebels. This was around 30,000 years ago.
The inner workings of the Inquisition... such as ranks.
1) The Grand Inquisitor - The supreme ruler of the Order, answering directly to her Grand Clarity White Diamond.
3) Paragon Inquisitor - An Inquisitor that exceeded his betters and became member of White Diamond's court through the sweat of his brow. - Named Paragon after the flawless Paragon Diamond.
2) White/Blue/Pink/Yellow Inquisitor - A high-ranking official who serves still under one of the courts but answers mainly to the Inquisition.
3) Hand - An agent that preforms field tasks, espionage and inquiry in hostile terrains. They too can serve under various courts. (Named like this due to the strange obsession Gems have with body parts, same as Eye.)
3) Eye - Ranks the same as Hand but preforms civil tasks such as instilling zeal in Homeworld citizen, keeping order, monitoring and censoring in-empire activities of Homeworld Gems. They too can serve under various courts. Naming is made from the same reason as Hands.
4) Castling - Named after the process of casting molten metals due to being the lowest rank that still needs to be shaped and formed into the proper shape. the "ling" comes from terms such as "Hatchling" or "Youngling." - These agents preform the lowest tasks and are generally not trusted with secrets of any significant caliber, sometimes they accompany Eyes and Hands on their missions.
