While Pink enjoyed the joke, and proceeded to giggle in response, she noticed that both had a different stance on the subject of the "rebels."
Padparadscha spoke as if the rebels were just a minor inconvenience, Sapphire claimed otherwise. The only thing they both agreed upon was that this planet was inhospitable, at least for gems. However, Pink realized the humans seemed to thrive compared, in a certainly ironic twist.
At this point, Pink began to ponder again, the same question nagging at her. What exactly did the rebels want? Both of these gems claimed how inhospitable the planet was, and the hostile environments, and... Corruption, which she would hopefully never encounter. At this point, those rebels were fighting for something they would not achieve anytime soon, whatever that may be.
Though... Pink wondered for only a mere moment, before speaking up again, "So... W-What exactly are t-they fighting for, if this planet is so... I-Inhospitable?" she asked hesitantly, afraid for any possible retaliation against her asking yet another question.
She truly was just attempting to get a better read of the situation with these, "traitors."
Though Sapphire's words stung Padparadscha like a hot blade, she managed to hold fast to her cordial facade. She would never give that kind of validation or credit to the rebels, but the words wouldn't have irked her so badly if there hadn't been some inkling of truth in them. After all, the communications hub and the warps were crucial parts of the empire's foothold on this colony that had been compromised, and the taming of this planet had gone too slowly for too long. With no other option in this situation, she held herself in silence until she could bring herself to respond in a polite manner-- though for a gem like her, it was difficult to hold back.
Before she could give a calculated response to Sapphire, Pink spoke up. In her charged state, Padpara was struck by the question. "What do they want?" She echoed. Her brow floated up, coaxed by her mounting irritation at talk of rebels, "What indeed. I've been asking myself the same for years. They turn on their own kind, for what?" As the pink-court sapphire's anger rose, her pearl who stood nearby began to seem more stiff,"They abandon their Diamonds, for what?"
Padpara thought back on a time when she'd been face-to-face with a rebel, one that had put their differences aside to help her survive in a dangerous situation. What that gem had done, and told her then, still made absolutely no sense to the loyalist sapphire. "The answer I've arrived to-- it's ego. An unwillingness to serve ones purpose for civilization, for ultimately selfish ideas of...what was it, individuality?" Her eyes cut across the table, piercing through Pink, and then Sapphire. She cleared her throat.
Sapphire was watching Padparadscha, she was the real threat in this conversation. She could control her emotions masterfully, but Sapphire suspected, she didn't take his assessment of rebel threat well. Of course, he knew, that the rebels were even more dangerous, but there was no reason to tell them, they wouldn't believe him.
Pink Sapphire asked a question, that was... difficult to answer. Even amongst rebels, everyone had their own reason to join the rebellion.
"Padparadscha is correct. Basically, humans, the dominant species native to Earth, have a history of fighting for one's right to choose. Seems like this behavior somehow "inspired" some gems. They feel they should choose their own position in society. Let's say, that a Pearl no longer wishes to be a servant, but instead wants to be a soldier."
He explained. He was on Earth for several years now, so it wasn't strange, that he had some knowledge about the topic.
"But I saw this behavioral change not only amongst rebels but even among those, who consider themselves still loyal to Homeworld. This planet really has some unpredictable effects on gems..."

Within the piercing gaze of Padparascha, Pink realized the distaste that swelled within those statements, she must really dislike the rebels, as one should but, as she listened on to Sapphire, the answer came full circle...
A gem's right to choose? How interesting. Higher elites, such as themselves, were in a sense given a choice, however, that right was always shadowed by their service to their diamonds, at least as Pink was aware. To choose something other then serving one's diamond, while treason, What would a gem do with such freedom?
...In a way, Sapphire had already answered that. So had Pink's current experience, here on this planet. She had wandered, without thought of servitude to her diamond, which while she hadn't even reach Pink diamond's court yet, she should had considered every move she made on this planet, as a effort to serve.
But, here she was, wandering, sometimes surrounding herself with gems who did not even address her accordingly, nor treated her as homeworld gems normally would. In a way, it was nice. She wasn't isolated from the lower ranked gems, who in her case, were valuable allies, She could interact as she pleased.
This begged the question, "...If you had the freedom to choose as you wish, would you join the rebels?" She muttered, unsure of the response she would receive due to the rather, borderline question.
Pink Pearl shifted uncomfortably at Sapphire's words, and Padparadscha's eyes flickered up to the servant for a moment, before casting back down at the blue-court gem. Gems, inspired by humans? She found this idea ludicrous. It was like being inspired by a blade of grass, or an insect, though she supposed traitors would be inspired by such things easily, given their weakness. Her expression was hard as she assessed the words. Sapphire hadn't let on to any untruths, his detached manner made it a labyrinthine task to read him, but she couldn't help but to take note of the odd feeling she got from her continued analysis.
"We've lost too many good gems to this rock," She uttered in response, her eyes flicked off toward the thin, silver crescent of the moon-base that faded through the azure sky. Though, Pink Sapphire's question yanked Padparadscha's smoldering gaze down into the gem like laser sights. Everything about that question was wrong, and gave her the urge to arrest the other pink-court sapphire on the spot for even entertaining the thought of such a thing. Instead, she cleared her throat, and clasped her hands together.
"Gems were created to serve the Diamonds. Freedom has nothing to do with it," Her voice had a cold, razor edge to it. This talk had drudged up the deepest of Padparadscha's beliefs, she couldn't conceal her true feelings on this matter. If she wasn't suspicious of Pink before, she was now, and narrowed her eyes at the other sapphire as she spoke on, "Gems who make that choice are choosing to abandon anything that gave them purpose,"
This conversation was getting more interesting by the minute. It was more and more obvious, that Padparadscha didn't like what he was saying. That was unfortunate, especially since he was only stating the fact. And Pink Sapphire was... strange. It was difficult to know what was her end game. It almost seemed like she had none...
But perhaps he underestimated her. Her question was bold and provocative. And also something that should get her arrested or shattered back on Homeworld.
"I refuse to even dignify that question with a response..."
There was no reason to answer that question. Even if he wanted to join the rebellion, which he had, he would never acknowledge that. No good could come from asking or answering that question. Even Padparadscha avoided giving a direct answer. "I am however obligated to inform you, that asking this question in this manner is extremely suspicious. And in bad taste... "

Pink flinched as she turned around to see Padparascha staring her down with the most incinerating gaze Pink had ever seen, quickly raising her hands up in a surrendering fashion. She had overstepped her bounds, and somehow managed to possibly invoke Padparacha's wrath in a mere gaze.
"A-ah I-I'm sorry! I-It w-was just a thought, I'd n-never do something s-so treasonous, of course! B-But it just seemed i-interesting, gems having a choice!" Pink managed to spit out, attempting to defend herself.
However, Pink didn't know how true that statement was, that she would never join a rebellion to be able to freely do as she pleased. There was just so many variables, and each one had a consequence or a gift, of being free, or serving the diamond authority.
Pink was panicking inside at this point. She possibly just made Padparascha angry, and probably both parties suspicious, when really she was just being naive and possibly, dumb.
"I-i'm sorry if that was a bad taste of question, S-sapphire. I'm just extremely new to this w-world and situation, don't mind me!" She quickly replied to Him, Glancing between the two, and slowly scooting to the edge of the seat, just in case they got a little more angry at her, which hopefully she wouldn't be shattered today for such a stupid question!
There was a conflict between Pink's words and the slight discordance of her expression, Padparadscha was quick to pick up on it. However, she could easily pin it on the poor gem's apparent lack of experience. It had been hundreds of years since she was a brand new sapphire herself, but she remembered well how she'd felt among those of similar rank. She doubted that this Pink Sapphire could've had an entirely similar experience to her own-- after all, padparadschas were a contentious model. Few enough of them existed-- let alone loyal, useful ones. Yet, despite the differences she surmised were there, Padpara knew what it was like to feel like an outsider, to feel belittled by fellow aristocrats.
She gave a sigh, trying to dispel some of her ire, and her expression softened. "Please, be at ease. We're all in good faith here, I presume? We're sapphires, after all," She gave a small smile, and gestured toward her fellow pink-court gem,"You're very honest, Pink Sapphire, that can be appreciated," As could her apparent bravery-- the gem certainly had an amount of chutzpah in her to be talking so openly about rebels in front of loyalists. "I advise you to step more carefully in your choice of words, however," She admired how patient the blue-court gem was, and had his own way of extending a helping hand to the younger sapphire among them. Sapphire's decorum couldn't be questioned at this point, but Padparadscha dwelt on the nature of his earlier statements. They become a very itchy minor inconvenience, wouldn't you say?
Something came together for her in that moment, as she thought of Pink's musings on gems having a choice. She again found herself wondering how Sapphire, a highly prestigious blue-court aristocrat, was being stalled in his efforts to carry out his Diamond's orders. She remembered the way that he'd responded to Pink's questions on the very same matter, and knew it would be out of line to bring it up again, but she turned her gaze to Sapphire. "It is suspicious, though as you say, this planet can sometimes have an unpredictable affect on gems. It's good fortune for the three of us to have intercepted here, as allies,"
Pink Sapphire was a young gem, it was apparent. She wasn't very skilled yet and she knew it. And here there was no shame in admitting that. If there were some negotiation others would take advantage of this, but fortunately for her, this wasn't one. Sapphire didn't remember if he was like this back in his times. He would like to believe he was never this green. Though it was several hundred years...
"Yes, your honesty is a bit refreshing, but I must warn you. Gems in our position can rarely show weakness or insecurity. Others look at us for guidance, even Diamonds themselves can ask for our wisdom from time to time."
He could count the times Blue Diamond ask his opinion on fingers of really clumsy Peridot, but it happened. And since his predecessor disappeared that time might increase drastically if he ever saw his Diamond ever again.
"Perhaps even more so, than most realize."
He met her gaze with the blank facade of his visor. "I saw loyal gems turn on themselves, I was attacked by a quartz soldier, who was delusional and thought I was corrupted. There is also a band of misfits, prototypes, failed experiments and off colors, who call themselves "Broken gems"."

Pink settled as Padparascha seemed to soften, and call her to ease. Thank the stars, these meetings were frightening! Plus, maybe next time, she'd wait a hundred years before attending another one, just so she wouldn't be the novice at the party.
Though, surprisingly, she was complimented on her honesty, which struct her as... Confusing to say the least, however, it quickly cleared up as the two of them explained how she should be more careful of how she worded things, which was sound advice, considering her borderline, almost traitorous, question.
Pink muttered a "Alright" and proceeded to remain quiet as Padparascha shifted the conversation in Sapphire's direction, maybe she should let the two converse on their own for awhile, and listen. Maybe she'd learn something, or at least it'll give her time to think on her words.
Her eyes flared as Sapphire brought up the Broken Gems. She too had seen the waste that this planet could lay upon otherwise perfectly functional gems, good gems who had somehow allowed their perceptions to be warped into something that the sapphire herself would never be able to understand. But, she'd also seen gems who were downright twisted, sinister by virtue of their own defects. This, she could say, was an accurate description of the Broken Gems, yet she felt irked. Though she wasn't exactly a prototype herself, she was often mistaken for one, so the word being used in association with the rest of the undesirables invoked a quiet irritation in her. She didn't voice this notion, and preferred to move her thoughts onward.
Sulfur, Spade...Broken Gems she had personal qualm with, but none more than her nemesis, the gem who had used his defect to great advantage against her-- though she would never, ever admit that out loud. "I've seen their ilk far too many times," She muttered, "Their Howlite-- 9XR-- seems to haunt my steps. If something has gone wrong, those Broken Gems are involved somehow, nearly half the time," Padpara didn't like to think of what could've happened if she hadn't been able to escape those instances, and she didn't like remembering them either.
It appeared, that they scared Pink Sapphire. She seemed even more timid than before. Perhaps they scared her a bit with their talk. That was not his objective. He should try and lift her spirit by at least some amount.
"While aspiring to be a good Sapphire is, of course, a worthy goal, none of us are perfect. We are not Diamonds, after all, we all have our flaws. It is good you called us here, however."
It was an interesting concept and it helped him learn how many Sapphires there were on Earth and what kind of gems they were. It might be invaluable if he ever had to negotiate on behalf of Crystal gems.
"Yes, I met this Howlite several times as well. He is an extremely erratic gem, unstable and dangerous. He should be hunted down and shattered. From what I learned he swore revenge to our Homeworld and wants to shatter Diamonds themselves... the impudence... "

Sapphire's attempt to cheer Pink up farther worked, dipping her head in a acknowledging thanks, however it was quickly undone as a certain gem was mentioned...
...Wincing silently at the sound of Howlite's name. him again? He must have a foot in the door of every gem Pink's met, this was distressing...
...Those memories, all locked away, she had no interest in recounting them. She muttered quietly "Indeed." as Sapphire finished, turning her head a quarter away from the conversation. She did not mean to be rude, but honestly, she thought it best to directly avoid the conversation topic, though she still listened, hoping they would move on.
Otherwise, she stared a flower, located only a few feet away from her. The flower was white in question, and the petals seemed to create a vase, the top opening to reveal a inside, a thin yellow strand poking out. It was a nice distraction.
Padparadscha couldn't help but to exert her position and knowledge here, with a smug smirk on her face as she dwelt on her up coming assignment,"Ah, but such flippancy has left quite a trail for us to find. The Judicial wing has been employed to bring him to justice. I assure you that he will be detained, and dealt with according to his crimes. As will the whole lot of them, in time," A most satisfying thought for her, to be one who could play a part in putting that Broken Gem down for good. After Howlite, she'd pin her ire on Sulfur, the megalomaniac that seemed to want to defy the very order of nature, and to a lesser extent, Spade...the young gem who had brazenly declared her allegiance to a heinous band of criminals right in front of a law-court official.
The sapphire sensed Pink's withdraw, and her eyes settled on the young gem as she gazed on the flower. Pink's earlier reference flickered through her mind. A deranged gem and his victim and well...she brought her hand over her mouth, making a connection. She had no way of knowing if this was the very same deranged gem that they spoke of, but the pink-court sapphire's indeed hung in the air with a sort of resonance that sent a cold prickle through Padparadscha. She realized that perhaps she'd made her own blunder in this conversation, bringing up unpleasant thoughts for Pink Sapphire who had so graciously accepted their company.
"But enough on that," She tried to save her misstep with a light tone as she attempted to change the subject,"Forgive my imposition, but I've been wondering, Pink Sapphire. You've mentioned a Gathering of Sapphires. Is that what brought you here? To these coordinates, I mean? I suppose I could ask the same of you, Sapphire," She'd only ever seen Earth, and Homeworld, at length in her days; the customs of other colonies were foreign to her. There seemed to be something that had tied these three sapphires into this moment, though Padparadscha couldn't say for herself what that was. Something innate, and perhaps, meditative in nature.
They left the previous topic, and it was probably for the best. They couldn't solve the problems of Earth or with Howlite right now. And it made Pink Sapphire uncomfortable for some reason. Perhaps she too had some unpleasant experienced with Howlite...
"I traveled across the galaxy, I went wherever my Diamond sent me. I rarely stayed at one place for long. As soon as I was finished with my assignment I departed. That being said I rarely stayed somewhere long enough to be part of any local tradition. I never even heard of something similar to this. I, of course, met other Sapphires on Homeworld, but never like this."
He explained. He didn't know, what was the origin of this "gathering of Sapphires" nor had he heard about it before current meeting.
