((Song for this thread))
Obsidian stood atop a pillar of magma approximately 100kms high. From here, he could see the curvature of Earth. The thin shroud of gas that enveloped the planet glowed a soft blue. From this vantage point, Earth looked to Obsidian like a giant blue gem with white swirls and an abundance of greens and blues. It was up here, in the silent cold of space, he came to a realization. This planet was changing him. He no longer felt subservient to Homeworld and those who commanded him there. The gem race had the technology to travel long distances very quickly. They could go to any planet they wanted at any time. Planets were a dime a dozen to them and because of that, they took them and the civilizations that inhabited them for granted. From here, from this planet, it became clear just relatively rare planets like this were. Of course, Obsidian had not come up here to admire the view, he was up here to prepare and experiment.
Obsidian would soon be fighting shadows in the void between warps and it was very similar to space, so where better to prepare oneself than space? Naturally, there were inherent risks. It was very cold and if he succumbed to it and retreated to his gem here, he could end up floating in space for a VERY long time. Fortunately, he had come prepared. A respectable supply of magma was being stored underneath his armor. The magma was keeping his core temperature up while his armor acted as and insulator to help keep the heat in. Even so, he could feel the cold trying to creep it's way in.
Obsidian leapt off the magma pillar and immediately began to propel away from Earth, the very thin air gave almost no resistance. Obsidian stretched his arms out in front of him and shot magma jets from his hands. The reverse thrust caused by this slowed him down. Then he moved his arms and shot out magma jets again, causing him to turn. Within seconds, he was looking at Earth again. This time, magma jets came out of his greaves, which propelled him toward Earth. He began to experiment with different maneuvers by positioning his limbs and firing magma bursts from different parts of his body.
