Meta regarded the statue of Rose gravely, her hands folded at waist level. The statement was figurative, but it was also true in the literal sense. Both Gems were extraordinarily tall, but Rose, even in the form of a statue, looked grander and warmer and wiser than Meta with her cascading hair and voluptuous body and beautiful dress. Goddess, she was sitting here being jealous over a more-than-likely dead woman. How petty was that?
"You were patient and kind and generous. And you inspired people, Rose. You inspired them to do great things. All I seem to do is inspire people to leave."
Meta paced in front of the statue, looking cold and alien and angry in comparison to the Crystal Gem's founder.
Meta's voice was a whisper now.
"I don't know how to be a leader. I wasn't made for it. Why did you leave, Rose? I could have gone! I'm good at fighting and destroying things! I could have gone to Homeworld in your place to waylay them."
Meta sat at the lip of the fountain, wincing a bit.
"Don't be dead. Work another one of your miracles. Come back and take this mess off my hands."

Carbide's footsteps were almost noiseless as she meandered barefoot along the sheltered rocky path, she even had her visor off, letting the bright sun wash over her misty black marble eyes unhindered. She was alone for the first time in a few days, and frankly the solitude was doing her a world of good, the rogue scout was used to some time alone, and frankly it was a necessary part of her mental health, despite her solo missions for Home World having come to an end almost a thousand years ago.
She hadn't been walking to any particular destination, however she had heard chatter from other gems, about a monument a proverbial stone's throw from the temple grounds, high in the cliffs, and grassy bluffs away from town. Her feet skipped or hatched out a sudden energetic dance move every few paces or so, the gem moving along to a music in her own mind. As her paces carried her further along the path, her ears picked up what almost sounded like a murmuring voice, sounding rather sullen and.. tired. "Hmm, looks like a solo afternoon may not be in the works after all.." She whispered to herself as she snugged her body up to the cliff wall, peering around the bend into a beautifully lush vibrant clearing with a grandiose stature of a gem that struck Carbide as being very grand and warm in appearance, although the crying eyes of the statue puzzled her some what.
Sitting on the fountain's edge she spotted another figure.. well spotted is a bit of a misnomer.. this gem looked like she would be head and shoulders taller than Carbide's 6 foot frame, at least, although somewhat more slender than she was, and her face looked rather sad. She figured she may as well go make introductions, having come all this way, she wasn't about to turn around. Her hand passes over her field of vision, re-manifesting her clearish mauve visor, its camo enchant kicking in and recoloring the view of her eyes, to a more normal white and blue as she steps out. She meant to call out or.. knock .. or do something to announce her presence in some way, however nature did that for her, as she ducked under a small shrub growing from the cliff wall, a twiggy branch catches on her rather.. informal, voluminous hair, snags and then snaps rather audibly.."Shoot.."
Meta turned at the noise of a creaking branch and subsequent exclamation, skirt shifting against the stone lip of the fountain.
The new-arrival was somewhat shorter than Meta, and of a curvier, somewhat more substantial build. The site of another Gem snapped Meta out of her pity-party somewhat. The ghost of a grin even crossed her face as she spied the Gem attempting to pull a twig from her long, voluminous hair.
Meta stood up, brushing a bit of moisture and debris from her skirt.
"Careful of the vines,"
She offered, lacing her hands together in front of her and moving forwards a few paces.
"They'll do more than catch in your hair if you catch them on a bad day."

Carbide's eyes rock upwards slightly to peer at the fountain's apparent host, while he hand raises to her hair to free the snapped off twig, removing the stow away plant life and breaking off a few hairs that cling to it, that promptly sparkle then disappear, being seperate from the gem body. She smooths out her iridescent locks and chuckles quietly.. "funny.. other gems would usually same the same thing about me."
Her bare feet move through the grass as she approaches the fountain to take a better look at both the monument as well as this gem, she was quite tall indeed, easily the tallest femme gem she had seen since she got to earth. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything, it seemed to me that I might have just barged in on a private moment, perhaps?"
Carbide's strides cease and square her off to the other gem at a range of about three or four good paces, close enough to be polite, but enough distance to react in case relations did not turn out to be abmiable.
"I had heard there was a monument somewhere around here dedicated to the leader of a rebel faction here on earth, given what I am seeing, I'd say this is it, but who might you be?"
"Private? I'm not sure this is a place for private moments. If Rose had meant this to be a place of privacy, I imagine she'd have put more than just vines around it."
Meta smiled wanly at Carbide.
"No, nothing private."
She stopped moving, as Carbide drew closer as well. She wasnt entirely comfortable with this little space between herself and the unknown Gem. But she wasn't going to back up and risk offending her, either.
"I am Meta Autunite. War-criminal, Crystal Gem, and, for the time being, Rose Quartz's regent."
She cocked her head at the shorter Gem.
"Who might you be? And... I take it you are only here because of the historical significance of the statue itself?"
She raised an eyebrow. Did this Gem not know of the Fountain's healing properties?

Carbide pauses her stride and turns to face the fountain slightly.. "Well I suppose you could say I am just doing what comes naturally to me. Im an.....Ex...home world scout, I guess you could say... but old habits of being curious and absorbing as much information about the surroundings I find myself in, die hard. I really don't know much about the fountain at all. I just figured that if I was curious about the Crystal gems, that visiting a site significant to them might be a good place to start."
She turns her gaze back to the taller gem, actually not minding looking up towards someone. Many of the gems she had met on earth so far were dwarfed by her between 12 and 24 inches it seemed. Wait did this tall gem say she was Rose Quartz's Regent, her cheif lieutenant? This was rather unexpected, she thought she might find a gem with a bit of information, not land in the lap of a leader of a renegade faction! "Well then.. If you are who you say you are, perhaps I owe you the courtesy of a bit of information on my identity too. I'm Silicon Carbide.. but usually just Carbide for short. I was rolled out as a prototype heavy scout for geologically volatile planet scouting and recon. But, I guess I was a little too mouthy to be the ideal subordinate. I think they think they broke me when they got.. upset and laid an orbital bombardment on me.. That was about 900 years ago, and I've been on my own, hopping fringe worlds since. Communicator chatter... a transmission from your Rose.. It got me curious enough to come here."
Carbide didnt realize it, but she was staring somewhat at the tall, welcoming but stern looking gem before her..

This seemed to strike Meta as funny. Her chest shook, and she turned a bit, covering her mouth. Within a moment or two, she'd escalated to audible laughter. She continued to laugh for a good few seconds, before she managed to squeeze words out inbetween.
"I'm sorry. Oh. Haha. It seems Homeworld isn't treating their scouts any better than when I left. It's a wonder your kind even persisted as an occupational subset."
Meta removed her hand, took a deep breath, and ceased laughing.
"I apologize, Silicon Carbide. I don't find your plight funny. It's just that you're not the only scout on Earth. There is an ancient Fuscite Gem here. Possibly the last of his kind. I doubt you'd know anything about Fuscite Scouts. They were in active deployment more than 200,000 years ago...... Until Homeworld ceased producing them for the most part and cut all contact with remaining individuals. They were all but exilled. Completely forgotten about. All because the Authority deemed them resource-inefficient. It seems that Homeworld cares just as little about their modern scouts."
"I'm an open book, for the most part. I'll tell you anything I can."

Carbide tilts her head somewhat as this tall gem seemed to break out into gradual roil of laughter. There must be something she wasn't quite getting, but she wasn't offended or anything of the like. Sometimes, others really need a laugh, in whatever form it arrives, waiting for Meta to compose herself once again and continue talking. Her gaze perks up from under her rather unkempt iridescent bangs, when she mentions the overall treatment of scout types by home world and then again, upon mentioning Carbide's distant predecessor, Fuscite.
"Hmm, well what you say about the state of things for scouts is probably not too inaccurate. Might also why they developed a prototype like me, to be inordinately durable as well as resistant to several kilotons of pressure, and temperatures creeping on 5000 degrees Celsius. Volcanic world scouting for colonies, energy harvesting, kindergartening etc... They even built in a special ability into my projected gem form that allows me to hold it together for a few moments longer despite damage that would otherwise cause an immediate poof.. but it... hurts.. to use it for more than a few moments. But, its the only way I survived the low-orbit shot from an Emerald Class Hand-Ship's Index Cannon, at all. Ive never actually met another gem of my type before. Ive gleaned rumors from Home World Blue Diamond division scientists, operating on fringe worlds, that they made maybe a half-dozen or so others, but its not anything concrete." The Heavy Scout draws herself in a bit, crossing one arm over her front, and gripping the other as it hangs straight.
"A lot has happened in the few years that I have been on this world. I have met the Fuscite gem you speak of, its sort of strange, like looking at an ancestor or something. Even walked right into the Gem who was my handler for home world, and ultimately took that shot at me with the Index Cannon..Tried to be mad, but I guess part of me had moved on, or part of me didn't have the energy to foster that kinda long term anger any more.. I'm only about 3600, I know I'm not THAT old or anything..."
It was strange for Carbide, to be talking about herself so openly, maybe there was something about this place, the quiet and solitude.. even the fountain itself that seemed to be bringing it out, driving her to communicate and address her own days past. Maybe it was just something that needed to happen, despite the risks, but risks were nothing new to her anyway.
Meta retained a small hint of a smile as she listened to Carbide speak about her history and list her various abilities. The Gem certainly seemed to take pride in herself. Not that that was a bad thing in the slightest. Self confidence was a positive trait. It only got annoying in Gems like Amon, who thought they were hot silicon. As Carbide got to the bit about being one among only half a dozen or so, Meta's little half-smile faded. She knew that feeling too well.
"Well, Carbide, I can sympathize on the matter of feeling alone. Autunite Gems aren't precisely common anymore. Not that they were to begin with. And my specific variant? Well, there weren't more than half a dozen of me to begin with either, and I think I might well be the only one left now."
Meta listened as Carbide continued to speak, about running into her would-be executioner, and about her age. That brought a smile back to her face.
"So young! When I was your age, they wouldn't even let me out of basic training and testing, let alone offworld. I'm sorry about any unpleasantness you've experienced, but, in a way, I sort of envy you. I didn't get to experience real freedom until I was more than ten times your current age. And when I had it, I never really got to enjoy it."
A hint of longing crossed Meta's eyes. She seemed oblivious of the fact that her words a moment ago had put into perspective just how old she really was. She didn't mind that any more than she minded being as open with Carbide as Carbide was being with her. Meta had let go of secretiveness around fifty thousand years ago, when most of the last Gems who remembered her and what she'd done had died off. And if this Gem somehow did know of her, as Schorl had through his knowledge of military history? Well. It wasn't like she could exactly sic Homeworld on her.
"I'd have loved to explore planets. I suppose I did explore a few, but generally only with the purpose of glassing stubborn native life or rebellious colonials from orbit with relativistic plasma-lasers."

"Yggg!" Carbide does a bit of a recoil and a flinch. "RPL'S. ..stars...they certainly weren't messing around. So far as I know, only large capital ships can even generate enough reactor output to charge those things, without basically powering down a half dozen nearly essential systems..and that's on relatively recent ship builds too."
She resumes her stride toward the tall green gem, pausing a moment to gaze up at her stalwart face, then continuing another pace and turning about, sitting down on the stone ledge of the fountain, tilting her head back and dangling her long hair, gazing at the inverted image of the Crystal Gems founder, captured in stone. Without shifting her gaze she pats the stone work, inviting Meta to sit.
"So...what's she like for real, Rose Quartz I mean, and what is so special about this fountain besides commemorative purposes?"
Carbide rights her gaze and posture, looking more closely at the water itself, which seems to have a slightly pinkish tinge. Minerals perhaps, or maybe some gem magic was at play here.
Meta grinned toothily in a way that was briefly not altogether pleasant.
"That's because you don't have me around to pump dozens of megatons of energy into the focusing-crystals and take the stress off the ship's reactor. We were to be the Authority's big sticks. We were created for destruction, whatever else we might have been built with the ability to do. Warmachines, like a Jasper, only with larger scope. The perfect circumvention to at-the-time limited technology and resources. The only issue is the fact that I sort of took offense to the whole thing after a while, and sort of took the whole project with me when I left the room..."
Meta returned to her seat at the fountain as well, paying no mind to the fact that her skirt was getting soaked.
"She was.... Everything I'm not. She was patient, and even-keeled, and relentlessly positive. And she never sat around and doubted. A problem might bother her, but only for as long as it took her to fix it. And she was resourceful. It was honestly sort of ridiculous. She was effectively thwarting colonization efforts with only her Pearl and her own two hands before she built up a following. That was always her biggest virtue. Her determination."

Carbide lets slip a grim chuckle, in response to Meta's ominous grin..."Heh, almost sounds like that between the two of us, youre the unstoppable force, and I'm the immovable object!" She scoots over a bit closer and gives the tall green gem a bit of a bump on the shoulder with her forehead, giving off a slight chuckle, then sits back as she listens to Meta talk about Rose, and suddenly sound rather unsure of herself, ushering a slightly pensive expression to Carbide's face. She drew he knees up to her chest slightly and wrapped her arms about them as water from the fountain formed droplets along her back and began soaking through her iridescent hair. She felt like she had to do something to try and improve the situation, but she knew that her social graces were sometimes unorthodox... so stars-above.. she hoped she wasn't about to screw this up as she pulled a small dark vanilla cigarillo from her pocket dimension and lit it with a spark of stored thermal energy..
"Lady Meta, I certainly never met your Rose, and I know that I've only just met you, but nothing you've said about Her, or Yourself makes me think that you would be poorly qualified to hold this merry little rebellion together, until Rose Quartz returns.. she sounds too stubborn to shatter anyway." She lets go a breath of the sweet vanilla aroma that hazily creeps towards the sky. "You say you're many things she is not, and vice versa, So What? She is patient, you can be driven. She is even-keeled, then you can be relentless and dynamic. She is overly positive, you can be realistic. She is resourceful? Perhaps if you feel lacking in that regard, you need to better examine your best resource, yourself."
"If she left you in charge, she must have believed in your capabilities, so perhaps what you need to do is cease trying to be the leader she is, and start being the leader that you are, that you CAN be. If there's something I've learned in the 900 years on my own, its never once paid, to play anyone's game, other than my own, as anyone but myself. If anyone has a problem with that, then tell them to step up and do better, and if they're not up for that, tell them to be silent, if they're not willing to put their facets where their face hole is. And also... its okay to ask for help. You're a leader, so Delegate. Sounds like She didn't select you to be her, she selected you to be you.."
By the time her little pep-talk had ended, the cigarillo in her teeth had been drawn down to a nub with a soft orange cherry glowing through the now fading evening light. She takes the smouldering butt and extinguishes it by grinding it in a small circle against her opposite palm, gradually taking a cautious look up through her soaked bangs at the Crystal Gem Regent.
Meta smiled. The younger Gem's positivity was certainly refreshing.
"Well, I am some of those things. And it is true that I do just fine for myself. But that's the problem. I was never a leader. I wasn't made to be a leader. Autunite Gems are antisocial-- built for the most part for solitude or relatively passive interaction. As the acting commander of the Crystal Gems, I have to be able to inspire trust and loyalty in people. I have to make them feel safe. Appreciated. I'm doing a poor job of that. I don't know how to do that. But I'm also the only one shrewd enough about dealing with outside threats for the job."
"When you're a leader, you have to carry more than yourself in life. You have to carry the faiths and fears of your followers as well, and address them the best that you can. Without Rose Quartz, the Crystal Gems are.... Well, not much. She took the remaining founding members her when she left. Which leaves me trying to basically rebuild the movement from a few handfuls of remaining Crystal Gems. And several of them aren't even entirely onboard with me."

Carbide listens to Meta once more, nodding along slightly, scooting a bit closer, listening with her chin propped up on her her hands. A lot of Meta's challenges resonated with Carbide, especially regarding dealing with others, even before she had gone rogue she had been a bit of a loner but had always found herself hard pressed to resist helping out some of the more timid or squishy gems she came across on the various fringe world's she had skipped about for the past thousand years.
"Well for what it's worth Lady Meta, it's not always the most social or concise or.. .orthodox individuals that have inspired me as I've gone along. Sometimes knowing that someone is facing a challenge like serving a role for which they were not designed, being willing to keep doing their best..that's sometimes the best kind of scrappy if you ask me."
Carbide takes a deep breath and sweeps her bangs back some, peering up, it was kinda nice and rather relieving to see that the leader of the Gems was so...real. She swallows a bit of a nervous lump and he cheeks tinge a bit of blackish plum and she holds out a hand palm facing up.."Ummm here..if you need it... I'll help. I'm not in the easiest position at the moment either but it certainly doesn't feel wrong.. the idea of helping you.."
"The objective practicality of person's traits isn't always the only thing needed to rule. I don't hate myself, Carbide. I just recognize that I don't have the charisma of Rose Quartz, or command the following she did. And that's worrisome, in times like this, where trouble seems to be once again on the rise."
Meta paused a moment.
"Are you trying to say that you'd like to join the Crystal Gems?"
Meta raised her eyebrows in mild skepticism, but her gaze settled on Carbide with more weight than they had held a moment before, and she stretched out her hand in turn.
Meta's palm and fingers pressed against Carbide's, and she gently closed the other Gem's hand, pushing it back."
"If you are, understand-- I don't want gestures of fealty or obediance. All I want is for you to understand what you'd be fighting for. What you'd be standing for."

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.

Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption" is being treated like a virus due to lack of info about it on the show.
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
