The sky was blooming with tones of scarlet and gold as Meta dropped back below the sound-barrier with a "boom" that scattered resting sea-gulls and kicked up a sharp gust of wind in the sparse beach-grass framing the stone entryway to the Crystal Temple.
Meta Autunite's descent here was careful, gentle. A great contrast to her almost violent arrival in the desert. Bending slightly, she set Prasiolite on her feet.
"This was once the base of operations for Rose Quartz and the Crystal Gems. Now. Well."
Meta sighed, one part sadness, one part frustration, one part amusement.
"Well. It's a symbol of what we can be again. I look after it in Rose's absense."
"I kinda like it. It may be but a shell of what It once was, but the rebellion - and it's base - has given me hope just as it has with so many others." Prasiolite says, smiling happily at Meta. "It's definitely not what I expected. Thats not to say It's underwhelming, It's just very different from Homeworld is all." Still taking everything in and how she came to find herself here, amongst the rebels, after only a few hours with other gems. "I have to ask, though, how many are there of us? Back before I-" Prasiolite then pauses, hiding her mistakes so that the temporary leader of The Crystal Gems doesn't think less of her. "Back on Homeworld, I'd heard that the rebellion was a huge army; a powerful force not to be reckoned with. I see no evidence of this though, and, going off what the gems I met earlier told me, We're not in a good shape." She then picks up her pace a little as she doesn't want Meta to think that these factors are discouraging her from joining. "I still want to join though, despite that. What you have here and what the rebellion is not just to you, but to everyone is amazing. If it mans I get to fight alongside any of you against the privileged upper-crusts, then count me in. Whenever you need me, just shout and I'll be there."
Meta laughed with genuine mirth, tone clear and bell-like.
"If Homeworld said we have vast armies, it's because the notion of getting their polished, faceted hind-ends kicked by a handful of rejects, fusions, old-timers like me, and raw, base Gems doesn't exactly make the finest story to--"
Meta paused to imitate a posh, nasal, snobby voice.
"--Bring home to the ill-ustrious Diiiiiiamonds."
As they passed under the entryway, now shaded by stone, she continued, tone serious now.
"The Crystal Gems have never been a vast army, but we did use to be a moderately numerous army...."
"When Rose Quartz left... Gems started to wander. Some outright left Earth. Some defected, gave up the cause, went into hiding."
She brushed a purple-gloved quintet of fingertips against the wall.
"I rallied them. For just a little while it felt like I might have picked up the pieces. Gotten the Crystal Gems back together again. But I faltered, like I am want to, and everything fell back apart. I was out of commision for what I can figure was about ten months. Not long. But when I came back."
Meta shook her head.
"It was twice as bad. More Gems had scattered. More had fled the planet. With no guiding hand or motivation in life, some were beginning to fall to corruption."
Almost in unison with Meta, Prasiolite chuckles loudly at her joke regarding the arrogant gems on Earth.
“Reminds me of the sapphire that cause my downfall.” She replies, smiling, but being reminded of the seizing anger she felt after being prosecuted for simply following her manager’s orders.
Looking up in awe at the cold rock entrance, Prasiolite begins to pay more attention to Meta, and focuses on every word so as not to miss any information about that rebellion. Upon hearing about what had happened when the leaders deserted them Prasiolite’s heart sank deep Into her chest. Like her, many gems used the rebellion as a means of escape and so being left alone with no leader must've been crushing. Although she’d become lost in thought about the rebellion, Prasiolite perked up at the mention of corruption. She’d never seen it first hand, but had heard the horrors of what it does.
“Poor things. From what I've heard, the corruption is a horrible virus that infects a gemstone, changing a gem's physical and mental state. I’m yet to meet a corruption, but I do not consider that a good thing. Destabilising them and then bubbling their gemstones is what's best for them, from what I’ve heard - but that isn't really a cure.”

Meta Autunite nodded at Prasiolite's words on corruption as they walked, and after a few more seconds walking, stopped and leaned against the stonework just inside the entrance.
"You're correct. A punishment from the Diamonds, unleashed in the twilight hours of Rose's initial ousting of the colonial Gems several years back. Except Homeworld was hasty, and as many of their own Gems suffered under the virus' effect as did those under Rose's banner."
"If she were still here.... I think Rose could've fixed it. Somehow. If anyone could, it would have been her. But she felt responsible, and believed that worse reprisal would come if she remained on Earth... She was probably right...."
Meta pushed off the wall. Stood straight.
"When she left, most of our fighting spirit left with her. The Crystal Gems haven't been a cohesive whole since. I need your help. I need the help of every Gem who will give it."
She placed a warm hand gently on Prasiolite's shoulder,
"To make the Crystal Gems into something resembling what they were under Rose again. That second reprisal is on the horizon, Rose Quartz or no. The Diamonds will have their colonies, and all of our Gems on a platter, unless we can drive them back again, ten times harder than Rose did."
“Then I'm more than happy to help. Be that through fighting, destroying, finding or helping other gems. Hell, I'd even be willing to fuse with someone, if it helps!” Prasiolite replies, running her hand over the gray stone walls of the temple. “Feels like Home.” She says. “My real home. A place where I really belong.”
Beginning to get pumped up and excited about fighting for the rebellion, Prasiolite lifts her leg up and pulls out her weapon, this time a smaller, arm-length version of it. Grasping it tightly, she makes swings it around in the air, repeating phrases like “Take that, you tyrant!” And “Remember when I was the one being pushed around and left behind to clean up the rubble? Well now it's your turn!” Giggling, she takes a break from her 'fighting’ to face Meta. “Fighting for this place - Fighting for you - is going to be an honour. I'm glad you took me on board; I'll do what I can to protect and serve the rebellion.”
Meta looked into Prasiolite's eyes, expression severe.
"You do not just fight for yourself. You do not just fight for me. You do not just fight for the Crystal Gems. You, Prasiolite, will fight the battle for the destiny of Earth itself, and every being on it."
She gestured upwards.
"If we fail, and Homeworld triumphs, Humanity will be extinguished. Every plant and animal on this world will die, or be stripped of purpose and turned into a zoo exhibit. This world itself will be ripped apart, stone by stone, hollowed out. Drained of life and warmth and potential. All the long years it could live-- the species it could foster. The new race it could raise to one day step amongst the stars as we Gems have..... All of it will be wiped out in order to make one more stepping-stone for the Diamonds to walk across on their way towards conquest of this galaxy."
Meta bends, face close to Prasiolite's.
"If we fail-- Everything Earth ever was. Everything it is. Everything it could one day be. Everything we are, were, and will be.... All of it will end. Painfully."
Prasiolite then stops her routine and drops her weapon, casing a clattering sound to echo throughout the temple. Within seconds, her weapon disappears just as her enlightened and excited mood. Moving toward the wall by which Meta was previously standing, she begins to speak, except this time sounds more somber than she had before.
“That’s a beautiful thing to say. I guess I never thought about it like that. I've only ever used the rebellion as my own escape; never did I think the fate of the planet rested on our shoulders. I'm sure there are a countless number of things worth experiencing here on earth, and as of now I'm yet to understand it's beauty and appeal. There really are bigger things at stake here, huh.”
She then walks towards the entrance of the crystal temple and looks out to sea. Still speaking loud enough for Meta to hear, P slowly, Prasiolite says “Well that's all the more reason to fight, right?” Now turning around, her back facing the sea and her front facing Meta, she continues; this time louder and making direct eye contact with Meta. “I'll admit, I was selfish before. I wanted to join the rebellion because it gave me a way to fight against the ones that abandoned me here. But if the life on this planet is as good as you say it is - and if what I say in the ocean earlier is but a fraction of this planet's charm- then we need to stop those Homeworld Upper-crusts from destroying it.”
The barest hint of a smile graced Meta Autunite's face.
"I'm glad we see eye to eye."
She clasped her hands behind her back, and walked a little ways back out, to stand perhaps a meter and a half from Prasiolite looking out at the ocean.
"It is beautiful..."
Meta trailed off and stared at the softly crashing waves for a full minute.
"Isn't it? It doesn't have the most spectacular skies I've ever seen, or the most stunning geographic vistas. Or even the most majestic organic life...."
Another half minute of pause.
"But. It's so rich. So diverse. So many species co-exist on this world. So many beautiful plants thrive. There are so many different types of sea, river, lake, ocean..... It's such a new, almost naive little system here, what they have going on Earth. Everything on this world just.... Goes on with its life. Enjoys the world it was born into, heedless of what occurs out among the stars."
Meta took in a deep breath of the salt air.
"It feels.... Safe here. It feels almost like a home. And everything's always changing! It's a sleepy little world, but things never really get boring."
Meta looked at Prasiolite.
"It's a rare, fragile, precious kind of beauty that this planet has, and I will NOT see it defiled by the Diamonds."
She looked out at the sea. Out at the crashing waves once more.
"Change is always great, especially for such a quaint little planet like this. When I arrived-" Prasiolite begins, now sitting on the edge of the temple, staring out once more at the serene sea. "- I thought that I was alone, and for the longest time I was just surrounded by miles and miles of empty desert. There was no life - not like there is here - and the only familiar thing I had to keep me company was the ship I flew down in. The heat and isolation were like torture. I would've left the desert sooner, had it not been for the fear that Homeworld would send someone to chase me down and take me back."
Prasiolite then steps out onto the beach. She'd planned to take a dip in the cool water for the first time in her lifetime, but was dazed by the bright lights of Beach city and it's pier amusement park. "What's that place?" She asks, gesturing towards Beach city. "It looks weird."
"That? Oh. It's a small human settlement. A place where the planet's dominant sapient species live their lives."
Meta sat down.
"Some Gems frequent it too. Drifters and neutrals who have no place in the conflict between Homeworld and the Crystal Gems. Other Crystal Gems. Defectors from Homeworld who haven't quite accepted their own defection."
Meta turned eyes away from the twinkling lights of the nearby town.
"It's called Beach City, even though it's really more of a small town than a city. And it's a perfect illustration of how quaint and charming this planet can be at times."
"With conflict looming and corrupted Gems on the loose, it faces threats now and again, but we Crystal Gems have always kept it safe."
"You guys really do a lot more than I thought, huh." Prasiolite says. After looking at the city, albeit from afar, she continues to move towards the ocean.
She first puts her foot in the water, yet pulls it back quickly due to the temperature of the water. So as not to seem weak and fearful in front of her new leader, she continues to wade further in, trying her best to ignore the cold. Soon after the sea had reached her waist, Prasiolite began to realise that the water isn't so bad. She splashes around with her hands a little, laughing at the new experience. Then she kicks her feet In the cold water, when a thought comes to her.
"Hey, Meta, Watch this!" Her gem and the water around it then begins to glow a dim green colour, and Prasiolite slams her foot onto the sand underneath her. This causes the ground around her foot to shake slightly, sending a large wave out across the ocean."It worked!" Prasiolite says, laughing loudly and watching the wave ripple across the ocean.
Meta pressed a hand to her mouth to hide a smile of amusement, and barely held back a snort as Prasiolite began to splash around. As the Gem used some sort of kinetic power to send a massive wave crashing BACK OUT into the sea, Meta couldn't helo but laugh, and give Prasiolite a quiet round of applause.
This Gem, Meta thought, was the essence of what Earth and the Crystal Gems could and should be. Kind. Guileless. Happy. Free to enjoy the world.
Meta sighed deeply, but it was a rather contented sigh.
She had no illusions that this brief, happy moment changed anything whatsoever about the world, but it was a reminder of what she was fighting for. A sorely needed one.
"Found that funny, huh? What about this?" Prasiolite says in response it Meta's laugh. She then proceeds to splash water at Meta, giggling as she does so. Prasolite then continues to frolic around the ocean for a few minutes, before getting bored and moving out of the water to lie on the soft sandy beach. Looking up at the stars, she begins to post at them and recount names. To Meta, Prasolite most likely seems crazy for doing so. First came Lustre, named appropriately for it's glossy glow. Then followed Celeste, Nova and White Dwarf. She would've then said the name of her favourite star - Apollo - had it not been for the thought that she probably looked like a little bit of a loon in-front of her new friend. Feeling the need to express herself, she then said "If you're wondering what it is I'm doing, I'm passing time. I'd do this when I was alone in the desert for all those years; naming each star and coming up with stories corresponding to each one. Lustre is a traveller from another galaxy, leaving her friends and purpose behind in search of a better life. White Dwarf saved her from Apollo, but his fire was put out. It's a pretty sad story, really, but today she found some new friends just as rebellious as her. Speaking of friends..." Prasiolite says, sitting up on the sand and straying away from her stories of the stars "...What other types of gems serve the rebellion?"
Meta chuckled more softly as Prasiolite splashed at her, and let out a half-joking exclamatory shout as water splashed her form, steaming where it hit close to her Gem, and drying rapidly even in places far away from it. As the more massive Gem climbed out of the water and lay on the beach to count stars, explaining herself after a minute, Meta shook her head.
"The stars are no strangers to me, Prasiolite. I was a pilot for many eons. I know most of them as well as I do other Gems."
Meta was silent at Prasiolite's question for a moment.
"All kinds. More kinds than I know or could properly explain. Rebellion doesn't attract any particular cut of Gem-- the only uniting thread between all Crystal Gems is that we think what the Diamonds do to other worlds is unjust."

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
