A boom. A rush of scorching air. Meta arrived in the Kindergarten much as she did any other place, and set herself to her task.
The arc of plasma she manifested at the tip of her index-finger was tiny; no more than three inches long. But it was intensely bright, and precisely as hot as it looked.
As the Gem hovered to a fallen injector and pressed the arc into the transparent polymer that formed much of its outer-casing, the material melted like butter, sizzling and running in little molten rivulets down the side as Meta methodically cut 360 degrees around the clear-casing, tilting the Injector with a free hand and a strained grunt of effort when need be.
When she was done, she let the arc fade away, shook the heat from her hands, and pushed away the now-seperated top two thirds of the Injector casing. She delicately inserted a hand into the bowels of the machinary, and began to dis-assemble it.....
Varis had not stopped in the Kindergarden in some time now, having a lot of running around to do made it to where he had little time to wonder about like he use to. He use to come to this place rather often for some training... and by training he meant fighting corrupted gems and poofing them. Figured it was a better fate to wait around in ones core then to be rampaging about, plus it was good training as some of these gems were pretty strong.
Stepping out from one of the tunnels that lead into the Kindergarden, Varis could be seen gripping the ring to his chain which lead to his rather large crystal ball that was slung over his shoulder. Wondering down the valley, keeping his eyes out for any corrupted gems.. or maybe even Homeworld skulking about.
Having missed the "Boom" of a gems arrival he had felt the quake while in the tunnels. He spotted a gem he didn't recognize at first, he began to make his way closer when something started to click... was this?
"M-Meta?" He stammered for a moment, not out of fear or really even so much out of shock but habit. Stopping where he stood, not getting too close to her, "Uh... You not missing anymore? That's uh.... news. Everything ok?"
He... had no idea really what to say or do... meeting the former leader of the Crystal Gems was no small thing for him. His weapon still dangling over his shoulder as he awaited her response.. if she even noticed him that is, he isn't really the loudest gem around.
The Gem replied, grunting as she tore out a chunk of the Injector's innards, tossed it aside, and then reached back in and plucked something out.
It was a transluscent silver cylinder roughly the size of a soft-drink can, if slightly narrower. Meta bubbled it, and it disappeared.
Meta flew away from the dis-emboweled Gem Injector and straight to a new one. The tiny blue-white flame re-appeared at her fingertips, and Meta cut open that Injector much as she had the last.
"Missing? I was never... Well. I suppose it must have seemed like I was."
Meta sighed deeply, digging about in the second Gem Injector's innards. What must have been coolant-fluid or something similar splattered her chest, and sizzled as it hit the intense heat of her Gem, where it was nestled between her clavicles. It boiled away from her Gem rapidly, and Meta cursed at the stain on her outfit and general unexpectedness of the fluid.
"I'm an old Gem, Variscite. And I was... Well. Never meant to live indefinitely."
Meta succeeded in plucking free another of the cylinders, bubbled and sent it away as well.
"I'm not quite as steady as I was 50,000 years ago. I... Lost myself for a little while. I happens to me now and again, every century or so."
She most defiantly seemed a bit off, and he was wondering what it was she was taking from these machines. All of his time here he had never seen anyone really using those things for anything.
He spoke about not being missing but how it seemed like it... what did that mean? He had to step quickly to keep up with Meta as she moved onto her next target. Keeping his weapon out just to be on the safe side, the chain jingled as he moved.
Flinching a bit at the liquid sputter out, it had been some time since he saw her, he now remembered that battle with the giant spider, how Meta was whipping fire balls around... the heat was something he still felt up until this day. The more she spoke the more confused Variscite got, 50,000 years? Not living indefinitely?
"I uh... I see... well the Crystal Gems have been.... making it. Homeworld is pretty active, got th-themselves set up in Empire City, got the humans there all rallied ag-against Crystal Gems. Its all pretty backwards there.." he wasn't sure if she even wanted to know this stuff, "Um.. is there... anything I c-can do to help you?" Maybe if he helped her complete whatever task she was doing, things might be clearer and he could get some real info from her.. or he could fill her in on any questions she might have.
Meta sighed gustily as she worked at dis-assembling the third Gem Injector.
"Well. Sounds about like business as usual. I knew the situatiin in Empire City was fishy.... I thought it was just those Broken Gems, though,"
She grunted with effort at ripping out the machine's innards, tossing aside several components until she had what she needed. Bubbled. Sent to the temple. On to the fourth. She shook her hands off, burning away the excess mechanical fluid, and soared past Variscite, moving to the next intact injector.
"If you want to help me, fill me in on more specifics I've missed out on. Think. Anything important."
She spoke matter of factly as she cut through the fourth injector's casing, tossed its top aside, and began to search for the fourth component.
What was she doing anyways? He had seen these things before but... no one ever pulled one apart.
"Right, the Broken Gems.. iv had a run in with one of them. That was, an interesting n-night. They seemed to be on ok terms with Homeworld, oh! Speaking of Homeworld there is also an Ambassador from Homeworld in Beach City. Iv been keeping an eye on her b-but she seems like she j-just wants to help." stopping only to sidestep the random chunks of machinery that flew by.
"M-more specifics? Hmm.. I heard something about a Diamond being close by? I didn't hear where but, other gems are talking about Pink Diamond being close by." Stepping closer to the wall and leaning against it as Meta began cutting though yet another injector, again he couldn't help but wonder.. why?
Meta's teeth glittered as her lips pulled back in disgust. Each was very white and surprisingly pointy.
"Why am I very much not surprised? I knew there "chaos" schtick was hollow. How very typical that a bunch of cloudy sadists such as them would be in league with fascism?"
Meta huffed, and moments later, ripped out the casing of the fourth Injector, bubbling it, sending it away, and turning her gaze to the fifth. Her movements were slightly more violent here. Fingers glowing with heat and radiation, she tore open to Injector physically, touch so hot it incinerated metal and polymer where she touched it. She reached inside, and the mechanical fluids within immediately rose to a whistling boil at her touch, steam pooring from the ragged opening of the eviscerated machine. Meta had to consciously still herself and regain her composure before she could remove the fifth part, for fear of melting it.
((Sorry I'm awful I know, work is taking everything I have right now... might try mobile posts soon))
Varis watched, watched as Meta worked away... seething a bit from this new-ish information he was telling her.
"Th-they seem confused.. I thought I was a defect b-but... they are waaaaay far gone." He spoke softly but loud enough for Meta to be able to hear over her work. He watched her rip though yet another injector, "Uh... can I ask what it is you are doing? I didn't th-think these things were worth much, yeah?"
He wasn't sure how much more he knew that was useful for her, then he started to think, maybe... "I think you should stop into Beach City soon, I w-want you to meet the Ambassador staying there. She l-lives near the docks, got her set up in a warehouse there. Sh-she had no problem telling me things about Homeworld, you two might uh... be able to help each other? She keeps asking me about wh-what we want.. iv already told her that we want Homeworld gone and that seems to be what she wants too."
Maybe things can all come together soon enough... or things were about to take a nose dive into failure.
Sapphire watched and listened. They were Crystal Gems, that was good news. Homeworld would have shattered her at first sight. Whenever someone looked by her, she ducked behind the corner, then peeked out again. They might think of her as an Amethyst from Homeworld. She didn't want that. But, anyone who knows gems well would know that she was a neutral sapphire. She had nothing to be scared of. Yet again, she wondered. She heard something being ripped and teared, and it wasn't Meta ripping the thingies. She heard no other than a giant monster ripping apart a rock. "Uh, crap," she said as she looked behind her. It was a corrupted Jasper. She cringed for a moment, then ran.
Melody: how are you doing? Are you going to make a character in here?

This Roleplay is a prequel to Steven Universe to an extent with some slight retconing and its own progression to the story that will turn out differently to how stuff plays out in the show. Thanks to the message by Rose Quartz several gems are rising up to protect Earth and have labelled themselves as the Crystal Gems. Others on earth are remaining aligned to Homeworld though despite the isolation of Earth from Homeworld
All gems on earth are still stranded, the communication hub is still offline and all the space warps are shattered, it has now been revealed that this is the work of Rose Quartz and her small group known as the Crystal gems. They have rebelled against Homeworld and have chosen to protect the Earth (Trapping themselves on Homeworld to keep the warps down).
Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’. Regardless the seeds have been placed down and although it is only the beginning the fight for or against Earth and the corruption has begun. The choice is yours for how it is shaped on the Original Steven Universe Roleplay Site.
Orginal Opening Plot Here Thread That Changed Everything
Differances Between the Roleplay and the Show
*Thanks to Rose Quartz' message the Gems on Earth are entirely aware that the Homeworld Gems intend to wipe out the human race.
*The "corruption"'s Origin is still unknown, some suspect it was a viral infection, other claim it was a Diamond experiment gone awry and other suspect the organics were behind it. Regardless no one seem to have a proper answer about what it was and why its only isolated to Earth
*Garnet, Pearl and Rose are assumed capture on Homeworld
*Garnet,Pearl and Rose broke the space warps to delay Homeworld
*Thanks to Roses Message gems now know what the Kindergarten was used for
