As unsure as the Quartz already was about the whole idea, it was only natural that they were going to find some kind of issue with the whole thing, some small hole that they could use as a potential escape to mask their mounting dread and uncertainty while not losing face- not anymore than they already had, anyway. However, they didn't expect to find one so soon, their expression turning on of simply confusion to sheer shock a step fusion began and gyrate around and..and do whatever that was. All the fusions that 7XB had ever witnessed had been simple, momentary matters.
"I can't do..that!" They declared awkwardly, crossing their pale arms across. "It looks ridiculously, doesn't it?"
A dark red blush came over Pyrope's face, "It wasn't that bad was it...?" She then cleared her head, "Still, all first time fusions usually go through something similar, it's a training of sorts. I've even see quartz fusions do it, helps sync up your minds. We don't have to if you don't want to, but it could make things... difficult." Fusion with a brand new partner was nothing simple, she wasn't even sure if it could be done without some sort of ritual.
She held out her hand again, "We can take it slow, no one will ever see us anyways. And like I said, I won't tell a single gem." That warm smile, not often seen on her face, began to creep back at this point despite her continued nervousness...
The Pyrope Fusion's hand was, again, regarded with an rather distrusting look, to say the least. But with her gentle, if insistant, prodding, the quartz relented, taking her much smaller hand with some trepidation. This entire ordeal was going to be stressful enough without 7XB allowing their reservations to impede them- though there was that ever-present voice of caution within them that insisted upon the recklessness of course of action.
But for now, as the quartz has rarely ever done, they chose to ignore that voice, and be reckless.
Taking a deep breath, 7XB took a deep breath, practically crushing the crimson Gem's hand without realizing it, "Let's..let's get this over with." The longer they waited, the deeper the pit in their middle became.
"I promise you, it isn't as bad as you might think. And even if it is, I already swore no one would have to know. You've got nothing to lose."
XB's grip was certainly stronger than she had anticipated, threatening to mangle her hand, but thankfully Pyrope was made of fairly sturdy stuff and didn't let up. "Now, simply follow my example and just... well... do whatever feels natural." And so Pyrope went into a similar dance again, albeit much slower as she made it easier to track her movements. With their hands gripped together she directed XB around to try and help them find their own style of fusion dance.
This was the hardest part, something that she couldn't just directly teach XB. A gem's fusion dance was unique, it had to be found within them rather than learned. If XB could manage that much however, even with help, then it'd (hopefully) be smooth sailing from there.
She was right- No matter what happened, nobody would never know what had happened between she and 7XB here in this wooded clearing..or at least they hoped. For both of their sakes. If nothing else, this may give them a deeper insight into this act they were so vehemently against.
Soon they began to mirror Pyrope's movements, or as best they could anyway, their much less fluid and jerky, lacking the confidence of movement that they would have possessed otherwise. This frustrated them at first, lips pulling into a sharp line. "Ugh, you make it look so easy!" The quartz complained with some sourness, releasing her hand. "Just lemme, uhm..try something else." That was what she said, right? One has to find their own style of dance. Their own..what was the word earthlings used? 'Groove'? They brought their foot up, making quick impact with the ground a moment later as they rolled their shoulders, one side to another like an ocean wave, throwing their right arm out as if throwing a punch- something they did quite well. After a few moments they grew a bit more confident, their combat fluidity beginning to extend to this, a style similar to fighting soon immerging.
7XB was a quartz after all, this was something they knew how to do quite well.
Pyrope stopped and gave XB time to think things over, "Take your time, there's no rush here.", happy they at least weren't stopping just because it didn't immediately work. She knew a few gems that were far less patient with failure.
When XB began getting into it there were practically stars in Pyrope's eyes, her face failing to hide the pride she felt. For a moment she actually forgot that she had a part in this, snapping out of her daze and back into her own rhythm.
Soon the two gems were dancing just a few feet from one another, circling each other both unique yet working in tandem. Pyrope continued, "You're doing really well! Now, we have to come together and sync our moves. Then... it sorta just takes over from there."
The Quartz slowed their movements, but did not stop, as the Pyrope fusion tried to explain yet another less-than-clear concept to them. They knew what it meant to be in sync, of course, or at least a more militarily-minded concept of what the word meant, anyway. “What so, we just..get closer and do more of this..” what was this gyrating referred to as again? “dancing stuff?” If that was the case, 7XB was going to let the fusion come closer and they would focus on their own, war-like movements.
Slowly but surely they were getting into it, the steps soon coming to them as easily as they would in the field. Though in their own critical mind they were failing miserably, truly the Quartz was getting it, they gem flickering and pulsing in an incredibly slow manner, at least at first.
"Mhmm! Let's keep going." Their dance continued, though it began to change pace to match XB's dance so the two of them swirled and jutted around one another. Slowly her own gems began to glow until it was a bright red light on both her chest and arm. A deep red blush came over her face as a realization of what was about to occur struck her. Pyrope had got caught up in all the training that she never really thought about this moment. Nerves almost got to her but one of her sides managed to calm the other and the dance continued without pause.
Pyrope came close and reached out to grab both of XB's hands, beginning to match their dance as well as leading them to a couple moves of her own. This was it...
An odd warmth washed over the quartz for several seconds, and having mistaken this feeling for the strain of exertion, 7XB begun to wonder if anything was going to happen at all- had they done something wrong, or had the fusion led them astray?
And then they were gone, eyes widening in something similar to horror as they began to phase out of existence, glowing like the sun in those last few seconds before the three collective essences of the gems came together into one, and their vision faded to black..
“What?.. Where did-ah!” Her own unfamiliar voice, higher and louder, startled the Heart-colored fusion, springing gracelessly to their feet. “Who are..me?” their four eyes focused finally, gazing down at two pairs of clumsy fist. Her expression quivered with flashes of panic as one half of her composition fought hysteria. “Listen to us! Listen!” So much raw emotion was hard to fight, the unhinging on one side showing though as even her reassurances seemed to be on the verge of tears.”
They tried to grab their head, the fluffy pink mane doing little to stop the unintendedly collision of four arms, too long and too short, smacked them in the side of the head, “No, we shouldn't have..owww. I don't..you..”
Through the bell-like ringing in their head, the quartize fusion was reminded of their troubling number of oddly sized limbs, stretching the pink appendages out before as many eyes. Her lip quivered, “W-Why didn't I tell you about this?!” She demanded, stepping backwards only to strike the top of their head upon a highly-placed limb of a tree. “Ow!! Diamonds, what the..” The Pyropes must've known it was going to be this way, despite their constant reassurances. “Diamonds? Oh no, no!” Her own, unfamiliar voice had triggered a potential horror. What would Yellow Diamond think about this?”
The quartz horror and uncertainty ran unbridled within the fusion like a corruption, the normally hidden depth of feeling within them causing Her form to twist and distort. “We can't, we CAN'T!” Her final shriek echoed throughout the woods as the three gems redivided in a flash of light.
7XB hit the ground hard, falling from the full height of.. whatever that thing was..
When the fusion split and threw its parts around there was three thuds rather than two, leaving the two pyropes separated as well. It was Pyre who recovered first from his prone position, "I knew that was a bad idea, I knew it!" Pye nursed an ache on her head, "No, we had it! That was great, we... er... someone just panicked." The two gems simultaneously turned their eyes towards XB.
Pye made her way closer, "XB... you uh... alright?" Doubt started to creep in, maybe she was wrong. Had she rushed things? Was it wrong for her to suggest this? It had been so long since she had a first-time fusion with a gem, she forgot how jarring it was. And that, was something entirely different even for her.
7XB had risen, their back to the two small gems, in the time it had taken the little pyropes to realize what had happened, their entire body tense..quivering like a steel cable wound too tight. The act of fusion, of.. combining with another gem had long been an act that reviled on principle, but had that been fair? So many years they had wondered..and tonight they had finally gotten their answer. This..this had been nothing like they expected.
Usually such a reserved gem, well-versed in the ways of locking their emotions away deep inside of themselves, the Quartz had already cracked quite a bit tonight, but when they weren't in complete control they just.. couldn't control it all. Even now they struggled to reexert complete control over their faculties..only for the concerned voice of Pyre to cut through them like a knife.
“Stay away from me!” They demanded, turning manically on their heels to face the miniscule gem, taking a step back. The speed with which they moved cast their snowy hair about, giving their pale face a rather crazed look- cheeks mysteriously moist.
"You..you- both! Both of you keep away!" They felt like a raw, throbbing nerve.
Pye snapped back a few inches, raising her hands up to show she meant no harm, "Hey, sorry! I didn't mean to startle you." Her eyes drifted down to XB's cheeks, noting the apparent tears that had formed. Her face dropped to a be much more solemn, "I... I really am sorry. I, we, didn't know that could happen." Pyre came up and laid a hand on her shoulder, unsure what to say. It was clear by his expression though he knew how much this meant to her.
Her own eyes began to water as she hurriedly moved to wipe them, "We've never fused with a different gem before, and we thought it would be the same but..." Words failed her, Pyre simply turned her and held her close. He gently spoke into her ear, "Why don't you wait by the edge of the trees for me, I'll sort this out." She nodded and slowly walked off towards the edge of the clearing.
Pyre waited until she was a little ways away before turning his eyes onto XB's, his own expression was more tired than anything else. There was silence for an awkward moment too long before finally sighing, "You know she really wanted this to work. She thought that maybe, maybe, this could have helped in some way." He simply shook his head, "So what now."
“What NOW?” The quartz mimicked angrily, the hysteria in their voice gradually fading away and leaving that cold anger underneath it all. Rarely had they felt this combination of anger and just..pure, pure embarrassment. They felt as if their shield, their mask of impassivity had been ripped away and they were exposed to the world, or the Pyrope at the very least, a turtle without a shell who could hide nothing. The act of fusion, of melding with another gem, or more, so completely, left absolutely no room to hide oneself away or keep secrets. And it was unfortunately not until it was far too late that the Quartz gem realized this, despite having witnessed fusion countless times
“I..I'm just fine being alone!” They insisted, refuting their own earlier claims, “at least then I'm..I'm me then! At least I never just..went away!” They looked almost desperately insistent.
“So we just..we forget!” Yes, that was the answer that rose to the surface. “This didn't happen, so theres.. nothing for anyone to figure out about.” still they would not approach the pair of gems..
Pyre didn't flinch when faced with XB's growing frustration, instead he simply watched with a calm stare until a long few moments after they had finished. Once things had calmed he sighed, his expression becoming much more understanding, "Look, out of respect I won't bring this up ever again but, we both experienced the same thing right there. I understand it isn't easy lowering your defenses, I'm not exactly a friendly gem myself, but we both know that's a lie."
He glanced up at the sky to avoid looking right at her, "You can try to forget that, to ignore that feeling, but sooner or later it'll become something you'll have to face." His eyes then traveled and fell on Pye who was seated a ways away on a fallen log, "I sure had to." Without turning back around he finished, "But this is all entirely between us. I suppose as far as anyone else is concerned, you're right, nothing happened. But we'll know better, won't we."

Now both sides are fighting among themselves along with fighting against the 'Corruption' a virus is infecting many gems turning most of them into mindless monsters, but those with a stronger will seem to becoming something more sinister.
The Game has changed now. The question has finally been posed, are you against Homeworld or allied with them. Or do you have your own agenda that may or may not been assisted by the ‘Corruption’.
