Vanadinite tilted her head to her side, tracking White Beryl as he moved over. The compliments he had given her felt strange, if you could even call them that. She wasn't really sure on what exactly he had meant by "teaching" him either. Still, she appreciated his friendly company, even going as far as to offer a game of chess.
"That human board game? I've played it a few times in the past."
Her head tilted forwards as she pushed herself up from the ground, moving back into a stand. A small cloud of dust followed that her hair had dragged with it. She brushed off her clothes before turning her attention back to Radiant. Indeed, she was more than familiar with all types of human games. Many of them she had been taught by various different cultures she had encountered. Some of them were now forgotten, whilst some had established themselves on a global level. Chess being one of the latter. Her eyes glanced towards the engraved board he had made, quite impressed that he went through the effort of making one himself.
"Though.. I was always more of a card game type of gem. Pretty much unbeatable in that regard."
The words were soon carried by a smirk. She expressed confidence, and was clearly ready for battle. Although not a physical fight, one could consider it a bout between minds. The ability to calculate an opponent's moves and build your strategy around them. In a game of chess, pure strength would get you nowhere, only the one with superior tactics would come out on top. A real fight wasn't much different. Her eyes were set focused on White Beryl's own. She wasn't a master of the game, but she doubted he was much better. If she won, it would make a good example of her capabilities as a rebel. If not, it would at least be a fun way to pass the time.
"Since you were able to recreate the board, I'll presume you know the rules. But, to make it more interesting, let's put up a wager. If you beat me, I'll help you locate wherever that message came from, since that seems to be the reason you were here in the first place. Knowing the place won't be empty, I'm sure you could use the help."
There was always more thrill to a game if it had some stakes to it.
"If I win, I'd like you to leave the planet for as long you keep pledging yourself to Homeworld. This is not a Homeworld planet, and I'd like to keep it that way. Of course, should you choose to stay, the Crystal Gems will have their doors open to you."
There was a spark of passion in her eyes. She was curious to see how Radiant would react to such a proposal. While this game was not based upon chance, neither of them knew each other's skill level in the game. In essence, it was still a sort of gamble. While she did expect White Beryl to underestimate her, perhaps willingly giving him the initiative would make him reconsider that.
"I'll let you go first."
